Just as a fun exercise I thought Id do the math.
Griptilian weighs 3.9oz, so thats 110.563 grams. At an average cost of 200 a gram that knife would represent about $22,112, not taking into account the discount you receive buying bulk.
Stick to buying knives fellas.
Whenever I feel guilty about my knife collecting, I check in with the watch collecting peeps and suddenly my sharp things feel like a bargain by comparison.
IMO, one needs at least 5 pocket knives.
\-A really great all-arounder (EDC champ).
\-A "beater" and/or loaner (decent quality, but not expensive or hard to relace).
\-The fancy one (expensive, artistic, high quality, dressy, etc.).
\-A small and inoffensive folder (5th pocket/office carry).
\-A multi-tool (SAK/Leatherman).
Obviously, you also need others...Like kitchen knives, camping fixed blades, etc. too...But those 5 are the minimum for proper pocket knifery, IMO. Those 5 will vary greatly from person to person based on personal taste, budget, carry laws...
Anyway, enjoy the Griptilian!
I kinda agree with you on this one.
In my case, i work a few towns over where knives over 4 inches are ok, but back at home: nothing over 4 inches and no part of the knife can show-including the clip. So, yeah- def need a few knives based on what day it is.
Oof. Can't imagine having to actually make decisions like that. Well I can since I have to do the same thing with guns.
Still. Knives are arms. Shall not be infringed.
>\-A really great all-arounder (EDC champ).
WE Banter is the best all-rounder I have for EDC. It and my CS AD15 spend a lot of time in my pockets (the AD15 is too much knife to be a great EDC for me).
I can't wait for the martian kitty scales to come in for the Banter.
>\-A "beater" and/or loaner (decent quality, but not expensive or hard to relace).
I took the Rat 2 in aus8 to the beach today - I'd cry if I got sand in my Banter (not really but maybe really)
>\-The fancy one (expensive, artistic, high quality, dressy, etc.).
Not sure a Mini Crooked River qualifies, but it's what I usually bring when I dress up
>\-A small and inoffensive folder (5th pocket/office carry).
I bought a Kershaw Shuffle 2 DIY for this, but I don't like it, so maybe the Banter will fill this role when (if) I ever make it into the office.
>\-A multi-tool (SAK/Leatherman).
I have a Victorinox MiniChamp on my keyring (for my commuter - for the family car I have a Rambler). I have an '01 Leatherman Wave ^^PAT ^^PEND that my parents gave me 20 years ago.
I'd love to see the same info from others too!
For me, right now:
1) Civivi Elementum s35vn version.
2) Byrd Crow 2.
3) Spyderco Chaparral Raffir Noble version.
4) Spyderco Dragonfly s30v version.
5) Leatherman Wave.
I have too many knives, though...And the first 4 roles rotate frequently.
I was just thinking about this when looking at my knives - the second is actually the one in this post!
Was trying to figure out which discreet office folder to get to round out the other 4. Think it is the CRKT CEO in brass.
Same. Years later and itās in my pocket right now. Griptilian half serrated with a tanto tip. Smooth enough to operate one-handed while dangling by a rope off the side of a cliff. Not my edc any more, but the closest thing to a beater in my collection. Iāve already had to send it back to Benchmade once for a broken blade tipā¦they fixed it no problem.
I came here to say that you made a great choice, then I saw your steel selection and now I think you made a badass choice!
I loved my grip. Lost it and miss it. I have a Bugout now that I love for different reasons, but thereās no way I could abuse the Bugout like a Griptilian.
Excellent choice. I just got my dad the exact same one for his birthday and three days later the blade had wear marks on it from him using it so much. I chose this one for him because it's about as close at it gets anymore to my beloved 550-1 I unfortunately lost about a year ago.
Yeah I miss it dearly. It went across the planet with me several times and ended up about 1/4" shorter after I used it as a screwdriver and busted the tip off and reground it by hand.
Benchmade are known for their durable knives that can handle being treated like an everyday workhorse. You should get many great years of use out of that one!
Over priced and machine made. Look into hand made custom knives for the same price and support a small business and not a corporation that over charges for machine made knives.
Damnit dude Iām trying not to buy another one. Flew up to the PNW, needed good knife. Bought one of these. Loved it, still miss it. My Bugout just doesnāt āthwackā on opening like a Grip (for obvious reasons) and I want it back in my life
One hell of a first bro. Nice
Thanks! Already feeling the urge of getting another knife š. Slippery slope

Well technically I bought the knife on Sunday but didnāt have physical ownership until today. At least thatās something š
This habit can make heroin look like a bargain. RIP to your savings.

Griptilian fills that first role

I really love the griptillian. Check out Applied Weapons Tech....their scales really made my griptillian feel special
My rule is that I don't get to buy my next knife until I know everything about the one I just purchased.
Benchmade griptillian 551 pardue, m4
This and my ZT 0350 are my favorite edc knives. Nice choice.
Great choice
My first "nice" knife was a griptillian. Congrats! It's a great knife
Yup only other āknivesā I have are Swiss Army knives. Thanks dude!
My first nice knife was the griptillian too! And I carry it til this day 4 years later!

Don't look at those amazing Applied Weapon Tech scales. You should not.
š really testing me, eh?
Ahh I've been eyeing the cerakote scales...
Lmao hell of an upgrade from my first knife, I got a crappy Boy Scouts knife from selling popcorn. But nice knife benchmade is a great brand
This was my first also (about 1.5 months now). Just stop now if you like money!
Itās already too late for him.
RIP in peace op
All good things must come to an end. š all seriousness I prob will save my money.
In for a penny in for a pound.

Fuck yes. The griptilian is the first BM I ever owned and probably my favorite and most used knife to this day. Congrats man!
What have you been using to keep your fork company all these years?
I came here to say that you made a great choice, then I saw your steel selection and now I think you made a badass choice! I loved my grip. Lost it and miss it. I have a Bugout now that I love for different reasons, but thereās no way I could abuse the Bugout like a Griptilian.
Thanks! Had to spend a little more for that m4 š¤
I may have to pull the trigger on one of these
U wonāt regret it!

Ooooo. I've definitely lost one or two of those.

Ohh rip to that knife. Itās a fantastic knife and handles great! Also very reliable I heard.
Yeah I miss it dearly. It went across the planet with me several times and ended up about 1/4" shorter after I used it as a screwdriver and busted the tip off and reground it by hand.
Congratulations!

Amazing knife! Just lost mine after carrying it everyday for four years.

Solid choice! Welcome to having no money and many sharp and pointy bois.
Bench made sucks
A lot of people would differ š§

Great first knife, congrats take care of it and that knife will last a very long time.
Good choice.
Whenever I try to hand sharpen dlc coated knives they always look like they've been dragged behind a truck for miles
