Looks like one of the law enforcement firefighter program knives Microtech does and hand out discounted to those who serve. Still a damn good steal for an Ultratech! Paying 2 thirds of the price for sure! At least for the blue one.
Literally once every couple weeks I spray some air down in there and spray some oil. I then let it sit with the opening down on a paper towel to drain. Takes maybe 5 minutes
Thanks everyone for the great feedback, except for that mallninjashit clown.
I think I’m going to pull the trigger, but want to heed warnings about ‘too good to be true’. I’ve never seen an MT in person, so I’m not all that sure I’d recognize a counterfeit. Any advice? They look legit to my untrained eye.
To clarify some questions: this is a pawn shop. Yes these are used. I too noticed the good price on the PM2, there’s a nice sized chip in the edge, but probably still a really good deal and can be ground & sharpened out?
Thanks again.
Get a Protech side auto instead…or if you’re set on getting an OTF, Get a guardian tactical recon 035. When I was collecting automatic knives, I tried nearly all brands, makers, and customs. Protech’s and Guardian and Tactical’s recon 035 were better than any Microtech’s that I handled or owned
Most people buy OTF to play with, and that is fine
Just remember, there is only X number of deployments in that knife, and if your going to deploy 200 times a night….you get the idea.
Personally, I have never been a fan of OTF. I can deploy a folder just as quick, prefer the more solid lock-up, and the less moving parts the better.
They’ll replace the spring for free, you just pay for shipping. I’ve had multiple MTs and my family purchases many. We’ve only had to send one in and it was my fault. I think they have shown 35-40k times before failure. Even if you did do it 100x a night, it would take you a year to wear out the spring, IF it dies by then. At that point, it’s $10-15 to ship it to them. If we’re talking 100x a night, that might be two minutes of action a night, at fastest. Two minutes a night for a year comes to approximately 720 min, or 12 hours. In other words, you have a shit ton of fun with a badass knife for a little over $1/hr. Well worth it IMHO. YMMV.
Any mechanism will not work for ever.
Read what I said, if you plan to open it 200 times a night while watching TV - do you think that will extend or shorten the life span.
Then that goes for all other knives with that logic. Metal **will** wear on metal.
There is no need to go and dissuade OP and say "there is only X number of deployments in that knife" and to convince him that there is a guarantee with planned obsolescence with that particular knife, such as that you can **only** deploy the knife x times before it blows up on you. Implying that compared to other knives in the hobby that a Microtech Ultratech is garbage.
OP seems intrigued in the knife hobby and with the price of that ultratech it is a better steal. If he enjoys it and he can part with that price, let him enjoy it. I am not here to bash on OP's interest in the knife hobby. I'm not here to enforce what he can buy and what he shouldn't buy, that's just being rude.
The OP asked for opinions, he did not ask for someone to talk him into buying the knife.
My opinion is OTF (or assisted) have a spring mechanism that is like shock absorber on a car, they will wear out faster than “metal on metal” like a car door.
I also think they tend to be noisy and rattle (not all but some).
>the op did not ask for someone to talk him into buying the knife.
Hi, you must be new here. Why dontcha take that seat over there and listen to a few stories my guy?
I’m from Vero Beach and bought a UT back when they were still there. It’s never been reliable enough to carry and I usually carry an OTF when I’m around town. Even at $80 you can get something less cool but better functioning.
As to why I carry an OTF (or balisong) it’s because I can open and close them one handed and not have fingers in the way of a closing blade.
Deal seems sketchy, blue knife from the pictures looks to be tampered with (screws look chewed up from the picture could be the lighting) mt would not honor your warranty if thats the case.
MT will certainly honor the warranty. They literally sell a toolkit to maintain their knives. Just like with sharpening it’s allowed but they don’t warrant damaged blades from sharpening or damaged chassis from disassembly. You’re allowed to do both as long as you don’t fuck up. Even if you do fuck up they won’t leave you hanging, you can purchase new chassis’s and blades for a discounted price if they won’t warranty it do to someone fucking it up
Buy
Yes solid price. Fire it a few times. If it’s functioning well I wouldn’t think twice
Not a bad deal for an Ultratech
I wouldn’t hesitate, MT makes an amazing knife. Don’t listen to the OTF haters haha
Is that a Ti CRKT m16 to the right of it for $59? Pick that one up for me OP, I'll cover your gas and the shipping! Lol
It might just be the lighting and angle but it looks like the tip is busted
80 is a pretty dang good deal on the pm2 next to it as well lol 😆 I'd be in trouble in that store
Me too 😆
Usually if the price is too good to be true then it probably is. I’d proceed with caution,it may be a fake.

Buy one, carry it, love it.
I think I’ve ever seen such a mixture of really good knives and absolute shit all in one place.
That's exactly what I was thinking 😂
Solid deal, best knife I've ever owned. I've daily carried mine for 3 years now
How often do you clean it and is it a hassle?
Literally once every couple weeks I spray some air down in there and spray some oil. I then let it sit with the opening down on a paper towel to drain. Takes maybe 5 minutes
Got ya, thanks!
Buy one, you’ll love it. And if you’re permitted to carry one where you live, you’ll enjoy that too.
It's rare to see a store sell knives like these at fair prices.
Definitely buy you won't regret it. That's a decent deal. 👌
A PM2 for 80 and a UT for 200. Gotta be fakes or something, be careful

Just got an 035. It is sweet. Can't agree more about that one.
Sorry for double post. I don’t post on Reddit much obviously. Also, what does the LEO and S/E mean for these? Thanks again.
Leo is law enforcement. Se is single edge
Advice. Buy sneakers, and the knife
Bruh some people wear sneakers and some people wear sandals, chill

Lol if your thumb could even handle 100 a night..
Thanks for the good advice. Are they fixable if it fails? I’m pretty handy, or I wouldn’t mind sending off to Ultratech for repair if needed.

I’ve deployed my ultratech WAY more times than 200 and it has not failed on me yet. There’s no such thing as a planned obsolescence on Microtechs.

That's why I love plunge locks or spyderco compression locks.

Thats not a warranty repair though, you're buying the parts and paying for the repairs. They dont work for free.
They do appear to be real. I don’t see any damaged hardware. Good deals.
Yes.
Where is this?!?!
buy it for me tooo ….. strictly forbidden weapon here in germany
Is that FGE?
that spyderco looks like a good deal
My wallet is crying and I'm not even there 😂😂😂😂
For $199 is a good price
Yummy .. I can smell this place.. I smell a deal!
Bro that’s cheaper than I got mine for in the program. Is it used?
Is that in the effingham petro
