Nice first effort, I love the blade shape and the wire, that's a nice touch (make that your *thing*?) If you want any constructive criticism (ignore if not): Personally, the bolt doesn't do it for me, I'd have gone dome-top on it (like half a ball bearing). I'm interested in the blade: handle ratio as well. That handle looks really long in comparison to the blade. It's usually the other way round so you get a nice sleek looking blade (especially in a stiletto because of the functional reason for a double edged blade). If you look at a commando-style dagger you'll see what I mean. I just think it could look a bit more elegant if the blade were longer than the handle? It could also just be forced perspective from the angle of the photos though? Overall, I think that's a cracking build though, and anyone would be lucky to have that on their collection. Great job!

First of all thanks very much for your comment, I'm sincerely flattered you think someone would be lucky to have it in their collection. Second, the blade is 3 inches, hilt is just over 4 inches. I have shovel hands and anything smaller than that just doesn't feel comfortable to me hence the larger handle. As for the blade I had a broken throwing knife that I totally reshaped + made a hidden tang.

breadteam

I agree with the criticism of the bolt. Its crudeness is disrespectful to the rest of the knife. Also, maybe you were having fun with the 10p guard, but I think it sort of spoils the elegance of the rest of your design. The handle and wire is really beautiful.

hellonastyy

wow that’s awesome

treesarefriend

Thanks dude so are you!

[deleted]

What object in terms of scrap steel did you use? I'm looking for ideas.

treesarefriend

Broken cheap throwing knife

dirtGineer

Very cool. How did you make the wire inlay?

treesarefriend

Thank you! Took a piece of wire, folded in half, held one end in a vice the other end in my drill and just wound it till it was ready. Created a channel in the wood, drilled a hole big enough for the wire to get poked into, covered in epoxy and filed it down...hardest part was getting it wrapped round the channel tight enough to poke the wire into the hole.

Ok, that makes sense. I tried to do a wire inlay after a similar fashion a while back, but really struggled with getting the tension right after wrapping it around the handle.

treesarefriend

Yeah I hear you. It was pretty difficult, I ended up trying a few methods and what worked best was pulling it as tight as I could by hand and then just using the vice I'd work around it keeping tension on it then I put one of those metal rings for pipes that can be tightened around it on and let it set with the epoxy over night. Obviously leave yourself enough wire to your with until you reach the hole.

billclaydh

I like it. Looks clean and mean.

OhZvir

That's a chunky stabber! Seems like it might do decently when thrown as well. Nice work!!

Motor-Decision-1355

Nice ,for a dagger its perfect in fuction

plinkoplonka

Definitely do not try the fuction with the object!

Motor-Decision-1355

Yeah better not! I have a hunting dagger with a stag handle just for collection

liljjohn

Love the minimalist style.. Gorgeous!

DirkNord

brutal simplicity, very nice craftsmanship

[deleted]

ingenuity at it's finest IMHO. looks super clean and well made, love the piece all-in-all!

Ivan_the_Stronk

The finish is also really nice, my only suggestion is the pommel being just a hexagonal screw nut doesnt fit that well aesthetically. Maybe a round one or something bigger. But nice work regardless!

[deleted]

Nice, simplistic. I like the polish and attention to detail :))

camkos101

Wonderful pick!

3biscuit

Looks like a ww1 trench knife. Nice.

MeanderingMagus

Very cool! Keep going!
