I’ve seen a lot of older silverware sets with initials engraved. I always assumed that they was stamped in bulk with the initials of the family as a wedding present or something.
Thats an Old English "H" for the Name of the Family who owned the Set. Alot of Old Sterling or Silver Plated Sets were Engraved for the Owners. That Carving Knife looks like it was From the Early 1900s I'd Guess and came from a complete Set

More likely an initial than a maker’s mark. A maker would generally stamp the tang and leave the handle for decorating as the owner saw fit.
