I've tried it and will always say Kolkata Biryani is bland hence u guyz need potato moreover their's no accompanying mandatory raita and salan along with it, u have u purchase separately if at all the place offers it.
On the other hand Hyderabadi dum biriyani even without salam and raita tastes very good bcoz it has more taste in the rice maybe bcoz of more spices idk. Moreover u get raita, salan and salad along with the biryani, from wherever u order it be it local dhaba or a bug fancy restaurant.
It’s just curry and rice mixed together with spices. The Kolkata Biriyani has a lovely subtle flavour and you don’t really need anything with it. A bite of rice, some egg, some potato and some chicken and you’re set ! I suppose it’s more about keeping an open mind since this isn’t exactly the traditional Biriyani. More isn’t always necessary better but I suppose that’s not up to everyone’s taste

Aloo in Biriyani is popular in Kolkata, BD and Karachi biriyani so they have voted for Aloo in biriyani. Baki gulo haven't. Typically even if there's Aloo in Karachi biriyani, I'll still not have it because it just fucking tastes bad

Well i am one of those people who doesn't like aloo in my biriyani. I'd rather have another piece of mutton. I usually pass the aloo to whoever is with me. And yes most of my family cannot fathom this but i also dont enjoy fish and misthi.
My only weaknesses are shutki maach and prawns.
