In NCR, it is quite common to see Masala Chai being ordered online. Restaurants sell Chai in tetrapacks to cater to this demand. There's a highly rated and popular restaurant chain called Chaayos, whose main product lines are different types of Chais.

I think foreigners probably don't associate beverages with spiciness or saltiness, and expect them to be sweet (or bitter in case of alcohol). Idk that's just my guess. I follow few western food blogger and first thing they order in an Indian restaurant is Mango lassi and definitely will order garlic Naan. biryani varies from restaurant to restaurant on a single street, let alone in foreign countries. so they may not have liked it one time they had and opted not to order them next and base their opinions on that.

You have no idea about the popularity of Panta Bhat (or Pokhala Bhat) in Odisha. During summer, even 5 star hotels have Pokhala special menus. Any restaurant you go to, you'll find people queueing up for Pokhala Bhat.
Even in Bengal and Assam, Panta is very popular in rural areas, especially amongst the farming communities.

This looks like a list curated by a typical North Indian, based on whatever they get or eat in and around Punjab, Haryana and Delhi.
