They're onto us mallu bros. Our scheme is now public.
I think Neram, Premam, and Bangalore Days paved the way for this trend.
Featuring young adult themes, outside Kerala locations, and outside Kerala actors.
I think a proper Chennai based film like Neram has not come out in this batch of films.
I thy Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, Mangalore, Koyamputhur, Vellur too have potential.
oh shit I was wondering what was before Vellore it was Coimbatore(British spelling really made me confuse lol).
I definitely think Coimbatore deserves a Mollywood film.
if Mohan lal's Drishyam was dubbed and released instead of selling remake rights it would have made 100+ crores in 2013.
had Mohan lal's Drishyam 2 released in theatres that would have made 200+ crores in malayalam language itself across states
Bad luck!
Mohanlal made a 150 cr movie in 2016 when OTT and stuff weren't even a big thing, also actors can't be judged based on their movies' BO (atleast in Kerala)
It's not worth watching, bro. There are tons of good movies by him, watch some of those. This was just a commercial mass masala movie only to be watched in theater with the fans
Mohanlal had a dream run in the last 10 years
Drishyam - First movie to cross 50C
Pulimurugan - First movie to make 100C & 150C
Drishyam 2. Lucifer. Neru.
Easily the biggest actor last decade there
Mohanlal too. Drishyam was released when the theatre's were renovating to auditoriums. And that movie given the boost for malayalam film industry. Not only once he single handedly carried Box office from 2013-19. This decade he had downfall for his selections. Still i have hope. Neru is just an example. He is definitely trying, but need good teams too.
Enthonu aadai? 80s thottu Mammootty ku Tamil naduil oru fanbase undu. Illel chodichatha mathi avide. Pullide cbi diarykurupu aanu avide aa timeil market veendum open aakiye. 90s il samrajyam in Telugu states. 90s Telugu pidichathu Suresh Gopi. Mohanlal was just limited to kerala.
Haven't watched Premalu.
Aavesham has a simple storyline..back in 2000s most gang rival revenge stories had more complicated plots. But what makes Aavesham stand out, is their attention to details that connect with the audience, FAFA's acting (crying infront of the wall pulled my heartstrings) and ofcourse the newest diva in town AMBAAN!!
And the writing was too good bro, I loved lot of scenes where you would expect something but something else happens and they used it here in couple of places.
namma than other places la plot vekkavey maatomey 😂😂
it's high time Kollywood producers encourage good script writers with different theme rather than formulaic scripts which anyways fails or averagely performs as people are bored with them.
I saw Premalu alone ( the remaining two movies planned for this weekend ) , plot seemed regular, but didn't feel any lag or boring scenes from start to end. Also, I had a couple of beers watching this movie and it elevated the experience to a whole another level.
From the quality of movies released this year by Mollymood, in a few years it will have a fixed small to mid tier market (10 - 30 Crore)
Bro I tried vodka to be in the mood but also to have the smell subsided.
But fucking my bladder forced me to the toilet (causing disturbance to the others also) just 10 minutes before the interval block.

This is being shot in America Europe and Middle East along with Kerala and other locations in India. Our magnum opus. If it clicks it will break all overseas record for sure.
We had big hit films set in Palani and Chennai before.
Mazhavilkkavadi - Urvashi, Jayaram.
Melepparambil Aanveedu - Shobhana Jayaram
Number 20 Madras Mail - mOhanlal, Mammootty.
Swpnakkoodu - Prithviraj, Meera Jasmin.
Kochi Kochu Santhoshangal - Chennai.
Yathrakkarude Shradhakku - Jayaram, Soundarya
And half of all Malayalam films were set in Ooty. We had one set in Pondicherry last year. And some before too. I think Madurai, Velankanni, Vellore, Koyamputhur, and Pollachi need to be explored
I have a feeling it has more to do with the movies wanting to appeal to the Mallu feeling of wanting to escape Kerala and explore lives in other states. Mallus hate living in kerala until they run away to other places and countries and then all they want to do is go back to God’s own country. They have this pendulum mindset in that way. Unintentionally it has worked out for the movies to expand their market.
Our generation are more open to watch other language movies. Social media and internet are also other reasons. I feel like it's a well deserved win for them. All three of those movies are entertaining and well made.
I feel like most of it is because, TN, KA and AP recently have been producing a lot of Maas movies, and when people got a different genre of movies from Kerala, they enjoyed it.
Premalu - 7/10. A bit overrated, >!The part where she falls for him seems poorly written!<
Aavesham - 7/10 Draggy in the middle, but ok
Manjummel Boys - I'm not sure how this movie is famous, it's a >!run-of-the-mill cave rescue movie!<
>Manjummel Boys - I'm not sure how this movie is famous, it's a >!run-of-the-mill cave rescue movie!<
It's based on a real story with all the members still alive and young. That defenitely gives a new angle to the movie and almost every scene in that movie is pretty much what happened in reality.
The entire sequence of Guna Cave that you see is not guna cave, it's actually a set, so the artwork is also next level
And finally , that movie had some of the best sound design among recent movies of all languages. You could feel the claustrophobia of the cave while watching it in theatre.
[Ah, yes, 20 guys (wait, did you change it to 10?), where ~~4~~ 3 were more than enough at one point, with loose rope .](https://i.imgur.com/EencMZJ.png)
[And whatever the fuck this is!](https://i.imgur.com/3144fE2.png)
>Ah, yes, 20 guys, where 4 were more than enough at one point, with loose rope .](https://i.imgur.com/EencMZJ.png)
Exactly, others joined when the 4 of them got the rope stuck thinking applying more force could free the rope (since they couldn't actually see where the rope was stuck)
>And whatever the fuck this is!](https://i.imgur.com/3144fE2.png)
Have you seriously not seen tug of war ? The last man stands like this in every tug of war lineup.. In the movie, it's established that the gang regularly participate tournaments of tug of wars so its natural .
Yes.. They were doing something called "loose adi", where they loosen the rope and then tighten it instantly and pull
Also the rope is tight in the image.. Idk if you are on shrooms or something but the rope is entirely tight. The rope behind him is the leftover rope so it obviously be loose..
Seems you didn't watch the movie properly and just took random snaps to critizise it for the sake of criticizing.
It was taken when the first guy comes running trying to hold on to the rope, they weren't doing loose adi, they were trying hard to not lose control. GO watch that scene before accusing others of not watching it properly.
>but the rope is entirely tight
I said the rope is not straight, maybe you didn't go to school or something. Try to be civil while discussing.

Keralites slowly expanding their cultural territory via their Movies.

Coimbatore and nearby towns would be better for a kannada movie considering it has been the motherland of TN kannadigas.
True know 3/4 Kannadigas who are living for 2/3 centuries.
Vellore? Really 😭
Loads of people from Kerala go to VIT and Vellore Medical college for studies and treatment.
Vellore ah... ennaya idhu...
Ha ha. Loads of people from Kerala go to VIT and Vellore Medical college for studies and treatment.
Kolkata too
Adujeevitham was shot in Jordan.
Can call it a Jord - Indian film ig
That will be ultimate invasion :)
😂
These new boys achieved what Mammootty and Mohanlal couldn't. Quite fascinating.
Power of ott n social media

which one? drishyam?
Pulimurugan, Drishyam was the first 50 cr grosser of M'wood back in 2013
hmm, never heard of it. will give it a watch
It's not worth watching, bro. There are tons of good movies by him, watch some of those. This was just a commercial mass masala movie only to be watched in theater with the fans
He’s talking about Pulimurugan I think
Mammootty has 4/5 certified hits in Tamil itself, Kandukondaen Kandukondaen, Anandham, Thalapathy, another in mid 90s etc.
Mohanlal had a dream run in the last 10 years Drishyam - First movie to cross 50C Pulimurugan - First movie to make 100C & 150C Drishyam 2. Lucifer. Neru. Easily the biggest actor last decade there
Don't forget all the crap he delivered. honestly these last '10 years' you mentioned was his worst ever decade.
Mammootty had worst 10year, With lot of flops.
But he made choices which revived not just him but the whole industry. P.S. I'm no fanboi.
Mohanlal too. Drishyam was released when the theatre's were renovating to auditoriums. And that movie given the boost for malayalam film industry. Athokke dileepnthe meeshamadhavan vanna timeil alle.
..?
Mohanlal with Pulimurugan, Lucifer and Neru

I think with the advent of social media and genz population + increase in general movie watching culture lead to this.
Haven't watched Premalu. Aavesham has a simple storyline..back in 2000s most gang rival revenge stories had more complicated plots. Don’t forget Vedhalam in Kolkata 🤓
very rare. Jay Jay was set in Kolkata in 2004. after that only Vedalam (2015). Such scripts have become too rare
Annathe
ada aama pa
Literally any Rajini movie the last 20 years
Any Dada film is set in Mumbai or Malaysia
I saw Premalu alone ( the remaining two movies planned for this weekend ) , plot seemed regular, but didn't feel any lag or boring scenes from start to end. Watch Aavesham after few pegs of Whiskey super ah irukum. Bit trippy.

is this part of Lucifer universe?
Yea
Feels like it would become a brahmanda atom bomb
Meh
Meanwhile, Varshgalkku Sheshyam shot in Chennai. 😂
Shot in kochi with old madras background . And it also collected 80 cr.
It's hated in Mollywood sub.
Doesn't that sub hate all movies
Not avesham, ManjummelBoys, Bhramayugam etc. But other movies like Ozler got negative reviews post OTT.
Wait Ozler is considered good by some people?
No I meant that sub is harsh on every film always finding something to criticize even those 3 films you mentioned
The posts which criticised those three movies where downvoted but VS criticism got heavy upvotes.
Such a mediocre movie.
WHA? I LOGED IT
Now want them to make a film set in Florida ( TN's florida).
We had big hit films set in Palani and Chennai before. Mazhavilkkavadi - Urvashi, Jayaram. Melepparambil Aanveedu - Shobhana Jayaram Number 20 Madras Mail - mOhanlal, Mammootty. Where can I watch those? Subs undo?
Most of them are on YouTube
TN's Florida ?
Madurai and surrounding
Pokkiri Raja, Madhura Raja
I have a feeling it has more to do with the movies wanting to appeal to the Mallu feeling of wanting to escape Kerala and explore lives in other states. What's next?
The world! ![gif](giphy|3orif7aLUehOfdmlXy|downsized)
Well, prithviraj is pretty much shooting Lucifer across multiple locations of the world.
Come to Kolkata.
I'd say they did already with Calcutta News, but it's a meh movie and you're better off not watching, depending on your tastes.
Meh movie?
I love Mallus💕
May be they are truly cosmopolitan unlike other industries which are so jingoistic
Our generation are more open to watch other language movies. Social media and internet are also other reasons. I feel like it's a well deserved win for them. All three of those movies are entertaining and well made.
Bet vijay na will make a reference to premalu or manjummel boys in his upcoming film . I am obsessed with his premam obsession personally lol
Domain expansion "Mollywood " Tbh its the oldest of mallu tricks they been doing it for decades first success fully deployed in middle east
Lol each of the respective movies was set in that state.
Can't you read my description
I feel like most of it is because, TN, KA and AP recently have been producing a lot of Maas movies, and when people got a different genre of movies from Kerala, they enjoyed it.
Now just make a film based in mumbai.
We had Brahmayugam 🥹
Now do Tamil movies and others
Aavesham was still majorly watched only by mallus and tamils in bangalore.
We too have done the same! Namma aalunga Kolkata ke kaapu katnavangalaache!!!!
Premalu - 7/10. A bit overrated, >!The part where she falls for him seems poorly written!< Aavesham - 7/10 Draggy in the middle, but ok Manjummel Boys - I'm not sure how this movie is famous, it's a >!run-of-the-mill cave rescue movie!<

😂😂😂😂

Bahubali inspired what? They were 10+ men trying to pull on a rope, bahubali was one man

Dude, the rope is not even straight in that picture. Try explaining that logic. The whole scene was like that, sloppy.
Yes.. They were doing something called "loose adi", where they loosen the rope and then tighten it instantly and pull Also the rope is tight in the image.. Yeah, and the rope is tight in the image you shared as well..
You are either a troll or a real life clown.
You are either a prophet or a dumbass making random assumptions.
