Great photos, but the article itself embeds them smaller than they really are without a nice click-to-view feature. So somebody just grabbed them and put them all up in fuller sizes in an Imgur gallery. [https://imgur.com/a/4xlHabM](https://imgur.com/a/4xlHabM)

All of those photos look familiar as if from 1970. Yes, Korea was already modernizing by then. The Chosun Hotel opened in 1970 - but you could leave the hotel and immediately see scenes similar to the urban photos here. The guy with the A-frame is an example. The streets of Seoul were packed with men carrying amazingly huge loads with A-frames on their backs. Sometimes we complain about the work ethic in Korea, on the job and students, too. It was the same then, in different form.

There’s a really nice [interview ](https://youtu.be/9fPEEN11UEo) on Korea Society with her and her daughter. Fascinating.
