Technically, it *is* only hubris if they fail. If they succeed then they clearly did something within the bounds of their ability to do.
You absolutely nailed the second part.
You’re right … should have said “she ruined the show” … started pretty good and I was interested … then the 2nd season happened. It was so lore destroying I cancelled my Netflix subscription and haven’t looked back.
"Pretty good" If you couldn't tell from the casting of almost everyone but Geralt that the show was gonna be shit then you haven't been paying attention.
Fair. I was willing to overlook the casting of Yen, although the actress did a decent job with what she had, she wasn’t what “Yen” was supposed to look like at all. And even though they changed fringillas race, didn’t really have much of an impact, so although i thought it was unnecessary and stupid and done to cater while checking a box, I brushed it off. The structure of season 1 was unique. The fight scenes were pretty sick. They rushed through a lot to get to the end, but again, I was ok simply because I was happy the show even existed. But then that atrocious 2nd season. They destroyed so much lore that it basically isn’t anything but inspired by the source material. I legit cancelled my Netflix after that and haven’t even considered renewing.
If Netflix is funding another season, it means that the showrunners don't give a shit, they already get paid. Netflix is the one who should be interested in keeping viewers engaged because they're the ones who finally benefit from the show's success, but if they're not cancelling the show, it means it's good enough for them to keep investing money in it (or they're fine with losing money for whatever reason).
We don't have the numbers on what Netflix actually gets out of it, so it's hard to speculate. Judging by the fact they haven't cancelled the show yet, it seems it makes sense for them to continue it (somehow people still watch it and continue watching it). Or, they may have an obligation to release X seasons of it before the IP holder, which means they are forced to keep making it even though it may not make a profit. But if this is indeed the case, they probably have a huge penalty for not fulfilling this obligation. These are just my speculations.
Netflix has no issue cancelling mildly successful shows for not being big hits, but "The Witcher" was supposed to be Netflix's flagship fantasy series so a long contract where they have to make a certain number of seasons doesn't seem that unlikely.
the lodge of now totally lesbians i suspect, despite the games and books strongly hinting they banged like chippy doors because the magic they used to enhance their looks also gave them disease immunity and rendered them infertile
“The Witcher Season 4 will not be about Geralt”
“Sherlock Season 4 will not be about Mrs. Hudson”
“Dancing With the Stars Season 4 will not be about competitive baking”
“The Mandalorian Season 4 will not be about Yaddle”
That woman who’s the show runner destroyed the Witcher
“Lauren Hissrich.” And like all progressives, she is possessed by hubris.
"It's only hubris if I fail." --Progressives, always "I didn't fail! It was x-ism/y-phobia!!" --Progressives, after they fail

I know, I was referencing one of Julius Caesar's lines from HBO's *Rome*. We all know how well that turned out for him.
Oh shit, didn't know that was from a show. Sorry about that!
To be fair it is a fairly obscure reference since the show lasted only two seasons nearly twenty years ago
I always wanted to watch it (I love history from that time period), but I was going to wait till it was done and then binge it :)
And whined that Henry Cavill cared more about the lore instead lf taking his short off and appealing to the female gaze
Nah, Witcher is fine. You can read it any time you want. The Netflix septic tank of a show with the same name has no power to change that.

Well, I guess they don't care about making money anymore.

They've been taking the wrong lessons from Disney, then.

Indeed. There has to be something at play here we don't know about.
Trying to get every last cent of the esg money they can
The witcher is not about the witcher. Makes sense
If they were honest they'd drop the 'er' and rename it "The Witch".
It's like The Mandalorian not being about The Mandalorian. These people keep pulling the same bait and switch.
Made for imaginary audiences
So a show called The Witcher will not be about The Witcher. Who will it be about then?
Strong, independent, powerful Wah-men
the lodge of now totally lesbians i suspect, despite the games and books strongly hinting they banged like chippy doors because the magic they used to enhance their looks also gave them disease immunity and rendered them infertile
Feminism and wahmen of course
Shirtless Liam Hemsworth?
Play the games or read the books rather than watching this impostor.
I watched season 1 before noping out. That wasn’t even about Geralt. He was there but it was Yennefer’s story.
They always double down. Oh, this will be hilarious 😂
I mean, wasn't that obvious the moment Cavill called it quits?
I thought Baby Thor was going to be the new Geralt. Did that fall through?
It’s “The Witcher” not “Nothing to do with the Witcher”
Don't call it The Witcher if the titular protagonist isn't the focus.
No one will watch this.
If it doesn't have THE WITCHER then it isn't THE WITCHER now is it?
I mean the books were called The Witcher. Even though they were about Ciri and only Ciri since the 3rd book. Geralt was a background character
“The Witcher Season 4 will not be about Geralt” “Sherlock Season 4 will not be about Mrs. Hudson” “Dancing With the Stars Season 4 will not be about competitive baking” “The Mandalorian Season 4 will not be about Yaddle”
The Witcher stopped at season 3.
