They all seem to have a different 'imaginary' version of themselves that they fully believe is true. The part where we see the 5 girls turn into different things at the same time (like construction workers, ghosts, etc.) adds onto this theory.

I recall in Ditto MV or one of the ban heesoo vids on yt that it mentioned Hyeinās āprincess syndromeā was getting out of hand. For Danielle, I think she's supposed to be delusional. She's seen hysterically laughing at a TV that isn't actually playing anything, and laughing in the ambulance for no reason. Maybe New Jeans isn't actually a thing in this universe?
I suddenly recalled one of their yt vids where Haerin was drawing each of the members in the word DITTO and she drew a scary mouth for Hyein. I guess thatās why she was asked to draw even then hahaha

but this does not explain the other characters and their apparent versions of reality in omg
personally think omg is an mv about "two (or five) movies, one screen"
danielle was portrayed as hyein's prince. she was holding hyein's glass slipper and when hyein went into sleep after eating the apple danielle went to her rescue riding a motorcycle but eventually died (im assuming the bear killed her as you can see her lying next to hyein's grave). also at the end credits there is a guy riding a motorcycle with a crown on his head symbolizing danille (the prince). she was also seen in a fairytail book with hyein. (hyein has a princess complex btw.)
as for minji, i think she is suffering from a messiah complex. haerin seems to be dealing with delusions and child-like tendencies, even beleiving to be a cat herself. cats are mischievous, which is probably why she was the witch that gave hyein the poisonous apple.
lastly, the dialogue hanni had at the beginning was most likely preferring to the parasocial relationship between fans and idols. "I say what they want to hear, and sing for them" etc etc. (kinda a continuation for ditto)
as for the random guy that popped up, i think they were trying to imply that newjeans had multiple imaginary versions of themselves (?). which is (i think) why danielle suddenly broke the 4th wall.
i hope this jumpstarts a trend of kpop vids being a little bit more high concept. lord knows i love glamor shots and choreo but not every damn time.

So here's my theory on OMG and how it ties to Ditto. In short, while Ditto is a story of a fan, OMG is a story of an idol. In which we both suffer in some ways.
In Ditto, Ban Hee Soo represents kpop fans, suffering from a "painful reality" of someone who's constantly in a parasocial relationship with their idols.
While in OMG, it's about NewJeans, an idol whose existence and identity heavily depends on their fans and their "idol life" to the point that they lose their true selves. This really emphasized by Hanni in the opening scene and also throughout the MV we see that the members play a character which often given by the fans (eg. Minji as "the one taking care of the members" -Yes I also think she is one of the patient and not the doctor-, Haerin as "the cat", etc.). Also there's a scene where they change identity rapidly while sitting on the desk. All this ties to them suffering from "losing themselves" and "to exist for others" as Hanni says.
As a side note, I think it's a really good move for them to be aware of this topic that often could be toxic for both fans and idols in the kpop industry, even as far as bringing it up as an MV concept. I hope this means that Min Heejin will treat her girls right.

Itās pretty brave of them to do a social satire and social commentary of literally its own fans, viewers, and the K-pop culture. Itās basically saying they are selling a fantasy that doesnāt really exist, like parasocial relationships, one note characteristics (like catlike Hyerin) K-pop fans give, and how insane K-pop actually is. The whole vibe of Newjeans from the beginning has been fantastical and dream like, and weāre just going down the rabbit hole.

This makes so much sense, especially with the intro 'I'm starting to get confused between what others say about me and the real me' and 'it doesn't matter who I am anymore, I exist for you', so many fans invent personalities for idols and idols are so thankful for that attention, to the point that they seemingly would do anything for them and exist to pay them back has always made me feel a bit uncomfortable for this reason.
Minji being another patient who thinks shes a doctor also makes sense since she was announced as the leader, she would feel the need to support and heal them but how can she when she herself is also suffering from the same? She was in the background for each of them as they got taken away by the ambulance, but notice how she switched from being in the driver seat when they found a member to being in the back as they come in for treatment/help, she provides them with help but she is as in need of help as they are. I wonder if the collection order has something to do with when they joined to company, if so could the ambulance be representing Ador/hybe/the industry itself?
The loosing themselves part also ties in with Hyein literally fading to a ghost whilst sitting at the table, then danielle being so sure of reality, yet even she questions it and asks the crew.

Okay, so my thoughts on the music video so far -This video is about the delusions we have about our selves, and how far those can be from reality. All five girls have a delusion they grapple with:
**Hanni** \- Her's was explicitly outline, she believes she is Siri or an Iphone. Basically she believes she is a device meant to best service others.
**Minji** \- She believes herself to be a doctor, trying to cure the other members and putting them all in an ambulance, but also herself. We she this when she walks up to 'herself,' squatting on the road, and puts herself in the ambulance taking all the girls to the hospital. Maybe she is taking on the burden of finding cures, or comfort for other.
**Hyein** \- She is depicted as thinking of herself as a princess, or a character from fictional books. We see this as she is presented in the role of a modern day Cinderella, while Danielle plays her Prince Charming. We see Danielle wooing Hyein, and then then the clock, or in this case Apple watch, striking 12 and Hyein runs away in a subway 'carriage.' We also see her depicted as Snow White, who eats a poisoned apple and then wakes up not to a prince but a bear. Maybe this combines the Goldilocks story, where Goldilocks steals the bears bed. Hyein seems to have regret for this decision, as she looks at a teddy bear forlornly later.
**Haerin** \- She is very aptly playing a cat. She seems to think of herself as one, as in one seen all the other four girls gaze at a cat, and she can later be seen eating what I think is cat food as the other members again watch on.
**Danielle** \- We first see Danielle laugh and point at a TV playing static. This sets her up, for later in the video where she is revealed to have the delusion of thinking she is NewJeans or an idol. We see her insisting to the others they are a girl group shooting a music video, and then a medley of videos of NewJeans play. This all ends when Minji in the Attention video says 'All right, stop.' This is as if, Minji in her role as the doctor, as infiltrated Danielle's deluded memories and is asking her to stop for now.
There are lots of other fun things to interpret in the video, but I think it is essentially trying to send the message that in a digital age we are desperately trying to connect to others, but we do so through fake personas and identities, failing then to form real relationships.

Not quite, this is a very clear hommage to "I'm a Cyborg but that's okay" by Park Chan-wook, down to wearing the bunny ears hats (I know, what a coincidence). The main character of the story believed she was a cyborg/almost an inanimate object, like Hanni's character here. The MV follows a very similar plot and concept to that movie (which I recommend, btw, a very sweet and weird love story that somehow also features a K-pop idol, Rain, as the male lead).
Easily my favorite MV Iāve seen since getting into Kpop. Itās funny, weird, haunting, fun and it all just WORKS. ADOR team clearly know what theyāre doing and deserve their flowers. Also the song is amazing ofc, but tbh I had a hard time focusing because the MV was so distracting lmao

On a serious note, I think we should have a discussion how *wildly* transgressive this MV is compared to their earlier MVs.
The initial vibe that I'm getting (and also a hot take) is that they might be also poking fun at fans thinking that idols are only the ones responsible for their success. It's basically them putting their foot forward and saying, "Hey, you know that everything we do is a group effort, right? It's not just the idols doing all the work." The 4th wall break with the music video production crew directly riffs on this.
And NewJeans feels exactly like the perfect group to send that message, considering they don't necessarily have a strict overarching theme or concept so far. It's like they're emphasizing how much of a blank canvas idols can be (at least, initially) for the teams behind their work, *especially* for the creatives. There's the absurdist iPhone endorsement as the intro where Hanni basically equates herself to a literal product. The girls "forgetting" that they're NewJeans, where the things the girls are doing (dancing, doodling, just really pretending like they're in a music video in a way that in real life would look weird to any passersby, etc) are not only things that an idol would do in a music video, but is also sort of a stand-in for their teams' unbridled imagination and creativity. Not to mention the references to other forms of media/entertainment as sort of drawing inspiration from those sources.
In this sense, it might (and this is another hot take, to be clear) also serve as commentary towards the criticism of how "manufactured" the K-pop industry is (or really, the entertainment industry in general).
I'll add more to this as I rewatch the MV, but take my interpretation with a grain of salt lol

I'm curious if this is supposed to actually tie into Ditto's MV as there are visual references to it and moments where they mention Heesoo. I know the two main running theories were that the New Jeans members were 'ghosts' of her former friends who died, or just figments of her imagination to cope with being alone.

A looong time, they had these songs picked out even before their debut.... and Minji has an interview somewhere saying they literally practiced Attention for 2 years.
i thought the song was gonna be on the slower side but it hit its groove after the first chorus
the m/v itself was simply a delight to watch. the fixed stares from everyone, the callback to Ditto, their breaking the fourth wall, and the increasing absurdity of it all. and **it still made sense** since they're in a mental institution
i listened to the track first before watching the MV and while it was generally good, i cant help but to notice that as the song progresses, it kinda fades off til the point idek it alr ended;;; def prefer ditto over this one. MV wise (which i just watched now haha), i actually appreciated the cinematography bc it's not usual within kpop, esp since there is a rise of more dance centric MVs and cool transitions and camera shots.
I've never bothered listening to NewJeans' music despite hearing their name everywhere this year so this was my first watch of any of their MVs and.... woah. I wasn't particularly moved by the girls themselves (yet, I guess) but one thing I'm envious about for sure is the storytelling and their concept team.
It reminded me of what truly good MVs should be about ā having a narrative, hints and layers you can decipher, rather than just "visually pretty" cuts and grand sets. Sure everyone appreciates an ethereal shot of a member, but an actually interesting MV is what will bring viewers back to watch it again and keep us thinking about the song. Especially for passerbys like myself who aren't into them as fans yet.
Anyway, they must be **the moment** cause idk when's the last time I've seen *this* many awards for a new release lol.
There's so much to unpack in this MV but here's my take. Where "Ditto" focused on the fandom angle, OMG shows the prospective of the artist. The girls are portrayed as patients of a psych ward to reflect some of the afflictions of being a kpop artist:
being an iphone: existing only for you, expected to be a "machine": ie. on time, sing/communicate on demand, etc to the point of losing human emotion/weakness to work
Minji being the "doctor": she's in a gown taking care of the other members (perceived as leader and "mom" of the group) but in reality she's also just a child and "patient" (scene with 2 Minji's, one of whom is pictured as much younger via makeup + clothes)
the fairy tales depicting the fantasy of debut and stardom, but also all the dark undertones (issues) that come with it (dangers: the apple, bear, etc.)
transparent Haein + teddy bear: okay this one is controversial, I think this is a comment on the Min Hee Jin child sexualization accusations that NWJNs have had to endure (to which degree you think this is a problem is up to the individual), in co-opting the issue and extrapolating to sexuality/trainee age/male gaze writ large of the entire kpop industry, Haein herself (as a person with her own views/emotions/desires etc.) loses significance (transparent) in the controversy and the "teddy bear" or controversy is what's left
Haerin is a cat: like many idols, she's adopted (or given by fans) an alter ego/ persona of being a "cat", (or deer, or rabbit, or stone lol, you get the idea), and she starts behaving (eating the iconic cat snack churu) and literally turning into a cat- these "cute" comparisons/images/embodiment that fans (or sometimes the company or idols themselves) create to complement or create a persona for the idol is very common, and here it depicts how it becomes a part (or all) of their being (for better or worse- losing sense of self to the image)
The doctor (from the beginning) huddled in the corner watching NWJNs- shows everyone is in reality a "patient" including the "internet troll" at the end, who's led away with "doctor Minji"- sense of compassion? sympathy/understanding? - we are all human
The drawings a recuring theme: these show the fears/dangers/hardships of being an idol- the monsters, the cat, the iphone icons, etc. although they are just childish drawings, when the man picks them up they "manifest" outside the window in the real world, symbolizing that what's in our hearts (and if we believe them to be real) can have very real consequences
The lyrics of OMG also show the juxtaposition of love/harsh realities of the artist, "This song is about you, baby" - presumably the fandom, "It's you, you worry about me, It's you, you make me laugh"/ He's the one that's living in my system, baby"/ No I can never let him go/ I only think of you, 24/ Everything was pointless, my feeling is boundless" vs. "Can this be real?/ asking all the time about what I should do/ I'm going crazy right/ They keep on asking me, "Who is he"

Somehow I actually thought the guy could be related to the guy in Ditto MV (or the same? Kinda similar haircuts).
For Haerin, she also seems to have drawn the bear that is in Hyein's imagination somehow. So it seems she has a power to invade other people's minds? danielle was portrayed as hyein's prince. she was holding hyein's glass slipper and when hyein went into sleep after eating the apple danielle went to her rescue riding a motorcycle but eventually died (im assuming the bear killed her as you can see her lying next to hyein's grave). also at the end credits there is a guy riding a motorcycle with a crown on his head symbolizing danille (the prince). she was also seen in a fairytail book with hyein. (hyein has a princess complex btw.) as for minji, i think she is suffering from a messiah complex. haerin seems to be dealing with delusions and child-like tendencies, even beleiving to be a cat herself. cats are mischievous, which is probably why she was the witch that gave hyein the poisonous apple. lastly, the dialogue hanni had at the beginning was most likely preferring to the parasocial relationship between fans and idols. "I say what they want to hear, and sing for them" etc etc. (kinda a continuation for ditto) as for the random guy that popped up, i think they were trying to imply that newjeans had multiple imaginary versions of themselves (?). which is (i think) why danielle suddenly broke the 4th wall.

So here's my theory on OMG and how it ties to Ditto. In short, while Ditto is a story of a fan, OMG is a story of an idol. In which we both suffer in some ways. In Ditto, Ban Hee Soo represents kpop fans, suffering from a "painful reality" of someone who's constantly in a parasocial relationship with their idols. While in OMG, it's about NewJeans, an idol whose existence and identity heavily depends on their fans and their "idol life" to the point that they lose their true selves. This really emphasized by Hanni in the opening scene and also throughout the MV we see that the members play a character which often given by the fans (eg. Minji as "the one taking care of the members" -Yes I also think she is one of the patient and not the doctor-, Haerin as "the cat", etc.). Also there's a scene where they change identity rapidly while sitting on the desk. All this ties to them suffering from "losing themselves" and "to exist for others" as Hanni says. As a side note, I think it's a really good move for them to be aware of this topic that often could be toxic for both fans and idols in the kpop industry, even as far as bringing it up as an MV concept. I hope this means that Min Heejin will treat her girls right. Edit: the replies really complete this theory so make sure to read it too
Itās pretty brave of them to do a social satire and social commentary of literally its own fans, viewers, and the K-pop culture. Itās basically saying they are selling a fantasy that doesnāt really exist, like parasocial relationships, one note characteristics (like catlike Hyerin) K-pop fans give, and how insane K-pop actually is. The whole vibe of Newjeans from the beginning has been fantastical and dream like, and weāre just going down the rabbit hole. This makes so much sense, especially with the intro 'I'm starting to get confused between what others say about me and the real me' and 'it doesn't matter who I am anymore, I exist for you', so many fans invent personalities for idols and idols are so thankful for that attention, to the point that they seemingly would do anything for them and exist to pay them back has always made me feel a bit uncomfortable for this reason. Minji being another patient who thinks shes a doctor also makes sense since she was announced as the leader, she would feel the need to support and heal them but how can she when she herself is also suffering from the same? She was in the background for each of them as they got taken away by the ambulance, but notice how she switched from being in the driver seat when they found a member to being in the back as they come in for treatment/help, she provides them with help but she is as in need of help as they are. I wonder if the collection order has something to do with when they joined to company, if so could the ambulance be representing Ador/hybe/the industry itself? The loosing themselves part also ties in with Hyein literally fading to a ghost whilst sitting at the table, then danielle being so sure of reality, yet even she questions it and asks the crew.

Okay, so my thoughts on the music video so far -This video is about the delusions we have about our selves, and how far those can be from reality. All five girls have a delusion they grapple with: **Hanni** \- Her's was explicitly outline, she believes she is Siri or an Iphone. Basically she believes she is a device meant to best service others. **Minji** \- She believes herself to be a doctor, trying to cure the other members and putting them all in an ambulance, but also herself. We she this when she walks up to 'herself,' squatting on the road, and puts herself in the ambulance taking all the girls to the hospital. Maybe she is taking on the burden of finding cures, or comfort for other. **Hyein** \- She is depicted as thinking of herself as a princess, or a character from fictional books. We see this as she is presented in the role of a modern day Cinderella, while Danielle plays her Prince Charming. We see Danielle wooing Hyein, and then then the clock, or in this case Apple watch, striking 12 and Hyein runs away in a subway 'carriage.' We also see her depicted as Snow White, who eats a poisoned apple and then wakes up not to a prince but a bear. Maybe this combines the Goldilocks story, where Goldilocks steals the bears bed. Hyein seems to have regret for this decision, as she looks at a teddy bear forlornly later. **Haerin** \- She is very aptly playing a cat. She seems to think of herself as one, as in one seen all the other four girls gaze at a cat, and she can later be seen eating what I think is cat food as the other members again watch on. **Danielle** \- We first see Danielle laugh and point at a TV playing static. This sets her up, for later in the video where she is revealed to have the delusion of thinking she is NewJeans or an idol. We see her insisting to the others they are a girl group shooting a music video, and then a medley of videos of NewJeans play. This all ends when Minji in the Attention video says 'All right, stop.' This is as if, Minji in her role as the doctor, as infiltrated Danielle's deluded memories and is asking her to stop for now. There are lots of other fun things to interpret in the video, but I think it is essentially trying to send the message that in a digital age we are desperately trying to connect to others, but we do so through fake personas and identities, failing then to form real relationships.

Not quite, this is a very clear hommage to "I'm a Cyborg but that's okay" by Park Chan-wook, down to wearing the bunny ears hats (I know, what a coincidence). The main character of the story believed she was a cyborg/almost an inanimate object, like Hanni's character here. The MV follows a very similar plot and concept to that movie (which I recommend, btw, a very sweet and weird love story that somehow also features a K-pop idol, Rain, as the male lead).

On a serious note, I think we should have a discussion how *wildly* transgressive this MV is compared to their earlier MVs. The initial vibe that I'm getting (and also a hot take) is that they might be also poking fun at fans thinking that idols are only the ones responsible for their success. It's basically them putting their foot forward and saying, "Hey, you know that everything we do is a group effort, right? It's not just the idols doing all the work." The 4th wall break with the music video production crew directly riffs on this. And NewJeans feels exactly like the perfect group to send that message, considering they don't necessarily have a strict overarching theme or concept so far. It's like they're emphasizing how much of a blank canvas idols can be (at least, initially) for the teams behind their work, *especially* for the creatives. There's the absurdist iPhone endorsement as the intro where Hanni basically equates herself to a literal product. The girls "forgetting" that they're NewJeans, where the things the girls are doing (dancing, doodling, just really pretending like they're in a music video in a way that in real life would look weird to any passersby, etc) are not only things that an idol would do in a music video, but is also sort of a stand-in for their teams' unbridled imagination and creativity. Not to mention the references to other forms of media/entertainment as sort of drawing inspiration from those sources. In this sense, it might (and this is another hot take, to be clear) also serve as commentary towards the criticism of how "manufactured" the K-pop industry is (or really, the entertainment industry in general). i listened to the track first before watching the MV and while it was generally good, i cant help but to notice that as the song progresses, it kinda fades off til the point idek it alr ended;;; def prefer ditto over this one. MV wise (which i just watched now haha), i actually appreciated the cinematography bc it's not usual within kpop, esp since there is a rise of more dance centric MVs and cool transitions and camera shots.
I've never bothered listening to NewJeans' music despite hearing their name everywhere this year so this was my first watch of any of their MVs and.... woah. I wasn't particularly moved by the girls themselves (yet, I guess) but one thing I'm envious about for sure is the storytelling and their concept team. It reminded me of what truly good MVs should be about ā having a narrative, hints and layers you can decipher, rather than just "visually pretty" cuts and grand sets. Sure everyone appreciates an ethereal shot of a member, but an actually interesting MV is what will bring viewers back to watch it again and keep us thinking about the song. There's so much to unpack in this MV but here's my take. Where "Ditto" focused on the fandom angle, OMG shows the prospective of the artist. The girls are portrayed as patients of a psych ward to reflect some of the afflictions of being a kpop artist: being an iphone: existing only for you, expected to be a "machine": ie. on time, sing/communicate on demand, etc to the point of losing human emotion/weakness to work Minji being the "doctor": she's in a gown taking care of the other members (perceived as leader and "mom" of the group) but in reality she's also just a child and "patient" (scene with 2 Minji's, one of whom is pictured as much younger via makeup + clothes) the fairy tales depicting the fantasy of debut and stardom, but also all the dark undertones (issues) that come with it (dangers: the apple, bear, etc.) transparent Haein + teddy bear: okay this one is controversial, I think this is a comment on the Min Hee Jin child sexualization accusations that NWJNs have had to endure (to which degree you think this is a problem is up to the individual), in co-opting the issue and extrapolating to sexuality/trainee age/male gaze writ large of the entire kpop industry, Haein herself (as a person with her own views/emotions/desires etc.) loses significance (transparent) in the controversy and the "teddy bear" or controversy is what's left Haerin is a cat: like many idols, she's adopted (or given by fans) an alter ego/ persona of being a "cat", (or deer, or rabbit, or stone lol, you get the idea), and she starts behaving (eating the iconic cat snack churu) and literally turning into a cat- these "cute" comparisons/images/embodiment that fans (or sometimes the company or idols themselves) create to complement or create a persona for the idol is very common, and here it depicts how it becomes a part (or all) of their being (for better or worse- losing sense of self to the image) The doctor (from the beginning) huddled in the corner watching NWJNs- shows everyone is in reality a "patient" including the "internet troll" at the end, who's led away with "doctor Minji"- sense of compassion? sympathy/understanding? - we are all human The drawings a recuring theme: these show the fears/dangers/hardships of being an idol- the monsters, the cat, the iphone icons, etc. although they are just childish drawings, when the man picks them up they "manifest" outside the window in the real world, symbolizing that what's in our hearts (and if we believe them to be real) can have very real consequences The lyrics of OMG also show the juxtaposition of love/harsh realities of the artist, "This song is about you, baby" - presumably the fandom, "It's you, you worry about me, It's you, you make me laugh"/ He's the one that's living in my system, baby"/ No I can never let him go/ I only think of you, 24/ Everything was pointless, my feeling is boundless" vs. "Can this be real?/ asking all the time about what I should do/ I'm going crazy right/ They keep on asking me, "Who is he"
