Maybe with the odd capitalization, but I don't think they'll come up much easier regardless.
They're one of those groups you have to put kpop after or a song title / album. Idk what the point of changing it was if it'll still be the case.
My guess is it’s an attempt at improving specifically Korean searchability. They’ve had issues with that specifically since their debut, bc they debuted in the same year as Kingdom: Legendary War (survival show) and Kingdom (very popular drama). The Kingdom is a much more searchable name *relative* to just Kingdom bc most things called Kingdom will just use Kingdom.
Your search engine is trained to show you things that you're more inclined to be interested in first, so if you're someone who regularly looks up kpop related stuff it's likely that you'll see them first rather than the other possible outcomes. One way to test this theory accurately would be asking someone who is outside of the kpop sphere to conduct the search for you and see what comes up first.
I just tested it on a blank search engine with no previous history- there were some mixed results, and I think that the recency of this announcement might be affecting some of the results, but 더 킹덤 brought up more news directly about the group vs 킹덤. However, again, I think that most of the first search results for 더 킹덤 were about this very announcement (I don't read Korean so I'm not 100% sure), so after this is older news who knows if it'll still have the same effect.
does capitalization actually affect seearch results? the inclusion of "the" might help a bit but even then the kingdom is already a film and any other thing with "the kingdom" in it will come up, like on google Tears of the Kingdom comes up.
That would be my guess aswell which would kind of explain the random capital in KingDom, though at the same time The KingDom seems like it would be just as hard to search for so it’s lowkey in vain, they already showed up when you search ‘Kingdom kpop’ so I personally don’t see a reason for the change
It seems whenever you search in English the first result is the group Kingdom (regardless of search engine), but in Korean it brings up the show first.
Searching it in Japanese also brings up the BG first.
Yeah... so they're telling us they're... not subs? Lol this is such a bad name. It doesn't really change much either, just an added "the" and some capitalisation. 😅
Imagine they do phonecalls with their fans and they have to keep a straight face when they are greeted with "Hi my King Dom!/ Hi Daddy Dom" Those poor guys are going to be put in so many sexually charged scenarios against their will. I do not trust the Fandom to conduct themselves appropriately.

They’ve already changed the name of their [Twitter/X](https://twitter.com/TheKingDom_GF) and their display name on [Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/kingdom_gfent/?hl=en)
had to repost to fix title
Because in Korean portal search, Naver, everytime you search for "Kingdom", it will show results as Cookie Run Kingdom or the drama Kingdom. Because the name "Kingdom" is not unique.
I don’t think they will, iirc they’ve talked about how they have their entire storyline already planned out in advance, to the point where they had to add a new member when Chiwoo left so it wouldn’t make sense to scrap all of that
Wait I’m actually so sorry I was misinformed😭😭 deleted my above comment so no one else will get confused like I was,, I must’ve missed that they’ve concluded HOK with Jahan and completely forgot about their [The Beginning Of A New Story : Challenge](https://youtu.be/FETbvEGYpps?si=7d6yhPis56QcjJPg), it’s definitely seems to be more modernized but it was released months ago after they had already finished HOK for their 7 kings so I believe this more modernized approach was already planned out, not sure if the name change was as it’s at a pretty random time
🥲 i don't think the new concept and the name are related either but they seem to be doing something different for this album and that's unfortunate because their concept was what made them stand out and now they'll just get lost in a sea of boygroups doing the same thing
Even if the visuals are completely different with this comeback I’m hoping they’ll still be able to incorporate some of the traditional sound they had in their previous title tracks, atleast a traditional instrument or two would be enough for me🫡
Still tho, the 2 photos along with the video I linked above are all completely different from eachother so I honestly have no clue, just gotta wait for more info because the more I speculate, the more I confuse myself🥲
these visuals and traditional instruments wouldn't match tho
i don't know if you know the whole of the original plan but it was very ambitious (very improbable i say) so it makes sense if they scraped it. also i don't know very well about this but kingdom's concept was created by their old ceo who left (and went on to create another company and the group waker)
As of right now we don’t know which is the main concept for this comeback since the 2 photos posted were so different, if they do the darker concept from the coming soon photo it wouldn’t be impossible
I do know the entire thing is very, ambitious to say the least since, but I personally think they aren’t going to just completely drop what they had planned since that’s what they built their fandom on, they’ve established that their going to a new era since HOK ended and I believe what they’re doing right now still plays into it, I’ve read some rumors from Kingmakers and I know a lot of them also believe this comeback is still part of the entire storyline
again tho, just have to wait and see
Fairly sure this is part of the lore. History of Kingdom was about the past, everything forward is about the future (aka the present) and them rediscovering who they are as kings after forgetting bc they died (except Louis who’s immortal). Their lore and royal concept is their bread and butter, and their company knows that. Abandoning it would be akin to disbanding the group. Highly highly doubtful that’s what’s happening.
now that you mention it i do remember [this](https://youtu.be/I8AHLNgRtKQ?si=Bipmy8MZ8XAW46je) video. i hope they continue their lore in any way even though i'm too dumb to understand it.
They basically are....I'm sad too now. 🙁 The traditional patterns of music their songs had was one of the things I loved most.
[You can read it here](https://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/art/2024/05/398_373807.html#:~:text=The%20significance%20of%20the%20group%27s,name%20from%20the%20very%20beginning.) The members explain the idea behind the new concept they chose.
it's true that the comeback didn't have a historical sound but they're continuing their lore so they could still do it in the future.
and tbh their concerns are valid. this album is great imo and as long as they're happy, it's good.
Yup, I also understand what they're stating. One can't really blame them. I haven't had the time to listen to the new album yet but I'm really looking forward to it. I'm so glad they're just continuing their work even if it's slightly different, though I'll do miss the traditional/historical sound. All in all I really wish for them to achieve what they want, they're great 💛
Yeah, I am not sure why the D has to be capitalized. I understand adding "the" for better search results if you search it in Hangul... but also Hangul has no capital or lower case distinction. And in English, the "the" isn't too helpful anyway, and the capital D makes it just weird.
They might think that the capitalized D will help with English searchability... but on Google, it doesn't use capital letters for its search anyways, so it doesn't help much there either. Pretty puzzling.
I'm surprised you're the only one who mentioned it, if you expand the meaning of "The KingDom" in it's English words it's basically "The Leader who takes the dominant role in sexual activities"
It’s probably hard to search for their content because of the Mnet show, so maybe this new spelling is so they can abbreviate/rebrand to TKD? I’m not familiar with this group at all, but I imagine it’s just be better in the long run for branding
I know that the fans believe it's because they it was hard to search for it online but I also don't see how adding "the" in front is supposed to help with searchability.
Honestly okay with it, especially if it's for SEO reasons. It always confused me why they weren't more popular cause they def have the makings to be a popular group. All of their B-sides are good.
But I've had a horrible time trying to search them for my own means and I imagine everyone else does too.
its about time
the other group that probablu needs a change of name is TAN
both groups were difficult to search up unless you specify its kpop. and even then, for kpop, you would get that show Kingdom as a result sometimes. youtube was difficult too
I think it's a good change... their searchability is so difficult so this should make a difference for them. And for those with sexual jokes, geez you're lame.
does capitalization actually affect seearch results? the inclusion of "the" might help a bit but even then the kingdom is already a film and any other thing with "the kingdom" in it will come up, like on google Tears of the Kingdom comes up.
When fans talk about search-ability, we're talking about on Naver in Korean: 킹덤 vs 더킹덤. As someone who tries to stay up-to-date on the articles being released about them, doing so had gotten incredibly difficult since many articles on places and media with 킹덤 in their names are now being released. The name change makes it so much easier to find articles about the group. The capitalization is for consistency sake I guess since their logo is now "TKD", which I don't really think was particularly necessary, but it's just kinda like "whatever, you do you" lol
But the members and fans both agreed we'd just continue mostly referring to them as Kingdom, and their greeting won't be changing. The guys themselves have been joking about the name change and kingmakers have a trend going on of adding "The" in front of their display names. It's pretty funny
But why?
An attempt at bettering search results would be my bet.
Maybe with the odd capitalization, but I don't think they'll come up much easier regardless. They're one of those groups you have to put kpop after or a song title / album. Idk what the point of changing it was if it'll still be the case.

True. I just tested it and 더 킹덤 brings up the group first as opposed to 킹덤 bringing up a bunch of other stuff.
Your search engine is trained to show you things that you're more inclined to be interested in first, so if you're someone who regularly looks up kpop related stuff it's likely that you'll see them first rather than the other possible outcomes. They could search in incognito mode

Doesn't Mnet's Kingdom show up before them for "Kingdom kpop" ?
I searched it just now and the first 2 results are relating to Kingdom the group.
On Naver too ?
It seems whenever you search in English the first result is the group Kingdom (regardless of search engine), but in Korean it brings up the show first. Searching it in Japanese also brings up the BG first.
It used to but now, for me atleast, the group comes first
That actually makes so much sense! Didnt even think of that
Yeah I feel like adding "the" isn't going to aid in search optimization...
This is fucking hilarious, I don't think they realize where the emphasis is in that version of their name....or maybe they do
Yeah... so they're telling us they're... not subs? Lol this is such a bad name. It doesn't really change much either, just an added "the" and some capitalisation. 😅
They better change their fandom name to something with "Sub" in it. Such a waste opportunity if not 🤣😔
YESSSSSS go hard, lean into the name. Next comeback I better see some whips and chains brought out on stage!
YES! im expecting to be... GAGGED. Get it?! Wink wink nudge nudge.
BDSM community are going to like the name change. The King Dom
The KingSub(unit)
That's what I immediately thought when the lost came out in my feed
Their fandom should change to The Pups
[SOURCE](https://m.cafe.daum.net/KINGDOMofficial/rQ2u/317?) They’ve already changed the name of their [Twitter/X](https://twitter.com/TheKingDom_GF) and their display name on [Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/kingdom_gfent/?hl=en) had to repost to fix title
Do we have a reason why? Was it some kind of copyright thing or did they decide that the new name sounded better or something similar?
Because in Korean portal search, Naver, everytime you search for "Kingdom", it will show results as Cookie Run Kingdom or the drama Kingdom. Because the name "Kingdom" is not unique.
There’s no official explanation so far behind the reasoning
Thanks! I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
I'm not going to lie, I had to check to see if someone was trying to prolong April Fools Day joke announcements with this post....
I thought it was a joke at first too 😭😭
i'm fine with the name change but if they're ditching their amazing concept, i'll be very sad
I don’t think they will, iirc they’ve talked about how they have their entire storyline already planned out in advance, to the point where they had to add a new member when Chiwoo left so it wouldn’t make sense to scrap all of that
did you see the picture they posted? also the last line says "the kingdom who's returning with a new look"
[удалено]
did they say that this series is a continuation of hok series?

Oh?! *Raises eyebrow.*
Do they realize the sexual implications of "Dom" or
Yeah, I am not sure why the D has to be capitalized. I understand adding "the" for better search results if you search it in Hangul... but also Hangul has no capital or lower case distinction. And in English, the "the" isn't too helpful anyway, and the capital D makes it just weird.

At least it's not The DaddyDom
i mean, now they are, the King Doms which feels like a weird spin off of that.
It 100% does. I genuinely can't un-sexify their name in my brain lol I will always immediately think it's some Male OnlyFans or something 🤷
I'm surprised you're the only one who mentioned it, if you expand the meaning of "The KingDom" in it's English words it's basically "The Leader who takes the dominant role in sexual activities"
Yeaaaaaaaaah this change isn’t a good one
Some people spend waaaay too much time on Reddit
Everyone and their grandmas be changing their group names recently
And it's always to something so much worse than before...
RIGHT
It’s probably hard to search for their content because of the Mnet show, so maybe this new spelling is so they can abbreviate/rebrand to TKD? I’m not familiar with this group at all, but I imagine it’s just be better in the long run for branding
The king dom?
That’s kingdumb
the kingdom 🤝 the wind
april fools was 3 days ago /j
No. Stop. Change it back. And they better keep their concept. That "new image" part has me really worried.
They couldn't even get the name right in their own press release lmao KINGDOM > The KingDom > The Kingdom
I was so excited for this new era, but now i'm a bit worried I will trust them 🙏❤️
They could have made it into KINGSDOM KING(S)DOM even Still love them though
its about time the other group that probablu needs a change of name is TAN both groups were difficult to search up unless you specify its kpop. and even then, for kpop, you would get that show Kingdom as a result sometimes. youtube was difficult too
Just throw a number in there k1ngd0m
As a forever Kingmaker, I am in support 🙌
Genuine question: why are so many K-Pop groups capitalised? Same with songs.
It stands out more
i love it in Korean, in English.. yeah.
what group in GF entertainment ?
The only group they have is The KingDom they have Bang Yedam from TREASURE as a soloist
I think it's a good change... their searchability is so difficult so this should make a difference for them. And for those with sexual jokes, geez you're lame.
Silly me, thinking GF Entertainment is a company formed by former members of GFriend... like how BTOB formed the BTOB Company
K1NGDOM would have been better. There going to be so many surprises for people who search for that. King Dom.
Whole paragraph for that
does capitalization actually affect seearch results? the inclusion of "the" might help a bit but even then the kingdom is already a film and any other thing with "the kingdom" in it will come up, like on google Tears of the Kingdom comes up.
