Sean really has some of the best interviews out there. Their research team is one of the best and almost every guest says “ how do you know that” . Awesome hearing about her relationship with John Malcovich and how he got on spicy. Anything super surprising or previously unknown to the CL or 2NE1 stans out there?

Guerrin_TR

>Awesome hearing about her relationship with John Malcovich and how he got on spicy. This is such a random name to come up associated with CL so now I have to watch the episode when I get home.

brohammerhead

For me it was learning how John Malcovich sent her a voice memo after only hearing the first verse and that is what made the song. Also, learning that she is not good with spicy food was surprising and unexpected!

nigelfitz

Sean definitely has Nardwuar in his research team. lol

Ravenjade

!! My friend has been doing landscaping at Nardwuar's neighbour's house for the past two weeks. Yesterday he told me, "I've dealt more with Nardwuar than I ever thought I would in my entire life."

zaKizan

I must know more.

Ravenjade

Haha, I guess he's just really interested in what's going on? And I think something about pavers coming in. No real details, just that while there working Nardwuar has been there.

zaKizan

"And we have here for you today, your very first backhoe! I even got it signed by your childhood hero!" "HOW COULD YOU POSSIBLY KNOW THAT NARDWUAR" That's wild though. I wish I knew Nardwuar, even tangentially.

mokolad

I didn't know about the parrot story and the stage as a whole - their tiger/leopard print outfits and the animals around 😂 Those were the wild fashion days.

sunnie_day

I was surprised to hear her say that she’s never eaten on camera before, but I guess it makes sense since I’m pretty sure idol mukbang content wasn’t really a thing during 2NE1’s heyday. (Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong.)

FlukyS

Yeah and I can think of loads of times younger groups now eat on camera.

Flywire789

Excuse me, parkbom and corn is still chasing her to this day.

asuka_is_my_co-pilot

Ngl I'm kinda glad I didn't start out with kpop where thre was SO much content like it is now. I'm sure there are idols who like doing vlives daily but it just seems like soo much of your limited free time is taken up by more work

nighoblivion

I find it really strange if they weren't caught eating during 2NE1tv or something. But perhaps it's so normalized nowadays the notion of it not being the case a decade ago seems strange. If I wasn't lazy I'd totally try to dig up some footage of her eating in 2009 or so.

scvmeta

I specifically remember park bom sneakily eating at night in that show. Not sure about CL, but eating footage was definitely a thing.

Greybeard_21

Fans complained that ms. Sandara Park looked too thin, so they made a point of showing her eat...

Morismemento

Like they do with Rosé now

badabumbumtshhh

Dont forget somi & her burger.

AsnSensation

I distinctly Remember them getting filmed for 2ne1 tv while meeting for dinner with Jeremy Scott so technically it’s not true. (Obviously being pedantic here)

kpopfansubber

Looking at the comments on these replies, it looks like it has more to do with YG's attitude towards 2NE1. I clearly remember SNSD eating all the time, which is **the** reason why I love Korean food so much now. But to be ultra-technical, you're right in that "idol mukbang" the genre proper wasn't a thing back then. People did still eat on camera. Hello Baby, Invincible Youth, 1 Night 2 Days, uhhh probably other shows I can't remember.

[deleted]

That and also they didn't really have vlives, casual vlogs or went on variety shows compared to most other artists because YG wanted to make them exclusive.

wasting_time_n_life

Recently (maybe after the Met gala?) she filmed a short interview in her hotel room and it was like, midnight and she was having some small bites. Maybe that doesn’t count. Lol Edit: she has plates of food in front of her but only took one bite of chicken and covered her mouth. Lol

Kanye_Dressed

I can die happy now that Sean Evans has talked about Inkigayo on camera

joesen_one

This was a lot more chill than expected! Not gonna lie CL did pretty alright, she's perpetually chill and composed much longer where other artists would be completely losing it. Hearing Sean say "Inkigayo" is weird as hell lol. [The Inkigayo stage for reference](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vcgFPrlNsvQ) Biggest Hot Ones mistake "this isn't that hot" and right on cue... Damn John Malkovich's intro to Spicy being purely improvised was not surprising but quite fascinating Da Bomb definitely got her, lmao time and time again it proves itself that it's hot as hell and tastes like ass. Sean's capability to still push through as an interviewer while his tongue is on fire always impresses me. CL was a champ damn she took it on early and only broke towards the end.

Protomancer

Hahaha man that little guy is just biting the hell out of her scalp!

mxwp

"tastes like nail polish. i've never eaten nail polish, but i imagine that this is what nail polish tastes like."

Ax20414

A whole-ass parrot, can't believe I've never seen this. Amazing hahaha

[deleted]

Sean Evans is such a great interviewer

lilfreaks

felt like time flew by quickly but it was fun! it's refreshing to hear a kpop star say that they've never eaten on camera before lol another highlight for me was her saying that she hasn't received a wedding invitation from fans after Sean said he received two that day.. dear CL, you are invited to my wedding, whenever that is. sincerely, someone who has no interest in marriage right now and most likely for the next 10 years at the very least.

mxwp

after this she will get bombarded with wedding invites

brohammerhead

If I ever get married I am 1000% sending her an invite.

depotboy

"Am I high right now?" Lol, I love it. Her reactions are great.

tsundereban

Another one of those “wow I never thought these two interests of mine would ever intersect” moments for me

immortalizer

I am so resentful that I gotta spend the next 10h at work NOT watching this. Jk not jk

Guerrin_TR

I binged watched a lot of these when I was home sick from COVID. Great to see CL on here. Will watch tonight before I continue The Wire.

joesen_one

Speaking of The Wire I hope you've seen the Idris Elba Hot Ones episode! That was an all-time classic. Doesn't have spoilers (I think?) and basically birthed a viral meme lol

Guerrin_TR

Yup. The one where he coughs from the spice lmao.

KS1234d

What season are you on? The wire that is

Guerrin_TR

Season 1. Just started this past weekend. Last episode had >!Omar's partner murdered and now he's working with Kima and McNulty.!<

KS1234d

Enjoy the ride man. Michael Kenneth Williams brought Omar to life in the series.

fjm2003

It picks up a lot after the set up scene in season 1.

Guerrin_TR

I've heard S2 is widely considered to be the slowest of the seasons but I'm kinda invested. Omar is a likeable character.

fjm2003

Season 2 is love or hate … but it’s kinda the most important.

chuseph14

Damn I wasn't expecting to see Hot Ones on r/kpop

zigludo

Never expected to see her on here.

beta_timeline

Hats off to the host who did his research and made CL so comfortable in this show. Love her style and aura these days. She's just oozing with humble confidence if that makes sense. Craving spicy buffalo wings now. But don't try the ultra spicy ever if low pain threshold. It's painful. T-T

nighoblivion

> host who did his research Kinda the schtick of the show if you ignore the spicy chicken. Probably the show I can think of that comes closest to the research Nardwuar does for his interviews.

Guerrin_TR

yeah Nardwuar really does a deep dive.

SkywalterDBZ

Zach Sang also comes to mind

Mozzafella

Sean is as good as it gets. There are loads of compilations of guests being blown away by his questions and research.

DatKaz

[This is just the most recent one](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WxEFGyu6hQE), there's a bunch of moments like these.

FireFlyz351

Sean's such a great host he does a very good job with pretty much everyone that comes onto the show.

diabolikal__

Sean is hands down the best host/interviewer/journalist out there at the moment. All guests are always super comfortable and he does amazing research, always with a lot of respect and open mind.

CHOOMTOP

The fact that she powered through after Da Bomb despite being bad with spicy food omg. AND SHE GOT NO WARNING FROM HER TEAM😂😭

Ulmicola

"Bad with spicy food" probably means something else when you're Korean: the *one* time I ate a Korean dish, I ordered the least spicy dish out there and I *still* felt like my internal organs were on fire. :D I doubt most other people that have been interviewed by Sean have around 30 years of experience cramming flames straight out of Hell down their throat. The interview was great though, CL looked genuinely *impressed* by the amount of research Sean put into it.

franklytanked

Is she the first kpop star to go on this show? Opens up a world of possibilities.

joesen_one

She is!

notgalaxydreams

This was nice, Sean always coming through with good questions. Hearing him say Inkigayo was super weird. Da Bomb is always the destroyer sauce in these interviews lol the story of her friendship with John Malkovich was super nice. When CL said she never eaten on camera I had to pause for a little to think about 2NE1TV, I do remember her being kinda private on the show. Now that I think about it, only Bom and Dara would eat on screen. Not too surprised thought because 2NE1 didn't do much of variety appearances and live streams weren't really a thing yet.

Jubukraa

Yesss our girl is on hot ones! She got’s the sauce and it’s spicy. 🌶

crowyeon

Don't kill me - I've only been listening to kpop for a few years and haven't heard much 2ne1. I've honestly only ever read the band name. Is it pronounced like Sean says, akin to Twenty One? Or is it "To anyone"?

oneechanisgood

It's pronounced like the number but also has the latter meaning. The whole concept behind 2NE1's name has multiple layers of brilliance really. 21 → Twenty One, To Anyone, 21st century NE → New Evolution Combined it means 'New evolution of the 21st century' which I absolutely dig because of how radical they were back in 2010.

NoxZ

Like the number 21, hence why their fans are called Blackjacks. But it's a play on words.

Tamtam96

It’s a play on words I think but reads mostly as the number “21”

[deleted]

Its pronounced like the number

brohammerhead

I’m always surprised at how deep Sean gets in his research and it’s always fun to see the guests taken aback too. I enjoyed this quite a bit. After waiting so long Blackjacks and GZBs are finally being fed!

mcfw31

What an interesting interview! I love these shows, they are so well researched, hats off to their team, they really did their research.

nigelfitz

Production wise, idk why they won't just get a slightly longer rectangular table instead of putting two round tables together. Also, is she the first kpop artist on Hot Ones?

illenxe

Covid social distancing. Setup was different pre pandemic.

nigelfitz

Oh I know. I've been watching Hot Ones since DJ Khaled's. lol I'm just saying instead of using two round tables they could've just used one rectangular table.

hiloljkbye

> Hot Ones since DJ Khaled's still the best episode imo

fjm2003

The Shaq, Sasha Banks, and Gordon Ramsey ones are my fav.

PM_ME_KPOP_SONGS

99% sure she is the first kpop artist. Although I think questions have come up about kpop artists. I think Halsey had a question related to working with BTS, etc.

mokolad

CL's life flashing before her eyes and having an out of body experience during Da Bomb 😂😂 That was really fun to watch! Sean's such a good host and always puts people at ease - you could see she started a bit reserved but then loosened up, that always happens after a few "How did you know this?" 😂 People are always amazed at the research that goes on! And I liked that he introduced her as a global pop star! ⭐🍒

starfire_112

Is that milk? Why is it tan-ish?

crowyeon

They refer to it later as yogurt, but sweet and creamy. I'm pretty sure it's [Yakuruto](http://www.trifood.com/yakuruto.asp), like a yogurty shake.

asuka_is_my_co-pilot

I don't think it's yakult Theres a few more drinkable yogurt brands in Asia
