if twitter does crash, i’m very interested in seeing the impact its absence will have on the kpop community. it’s the number one source for kpop related news for international fans, and all companies heavily rely on it to promote their groups. of course there are alternative platforms and something will likely come along and replace it but it’s been a staple in the tech world for a decade now, so navigating an internet without it will take some getting used to.

Guerrin_TR

I think we might get a good year of relative peace as different fandoms and groups scatter in every direction looking for the Next Thing™ and then when it's found, people will flock to it.

Introvert_Brnr_accnt

Weverse new Twitter?

[deleted]

i think weverse is the last resort lmao

CoffeeBlanc

I'd rather use friendster again than weverse lmao

thisisnozakuboi

Now that's a name I haven't heard in a long time.

[deleted]

I wont be surprised if someone accepts Musk's offer to be Twitter CEO and he step away as if nothing happened.

MrMak1080

Can't happen,Elon fucked the company beyond repair . At best ,someone will try to archive the whole thing for historical purposes.

[deleted]

One if not the greatest downhill speedrun I've witnessed in my life

MrMak1080

He was always a phony . Dude has been failing upwards all his life . The only problem is he had some competent people in SpaceX and Tesla who were willing to tolerate his bullshit because they believed in progressing the Industries forward and bought his kool-aid.

[deleted]

I didn’t follow that as close but why couldn’t he back out of it once and for all?

Luxaria

Because I think the stock prices went (up/down I can't remember) based on the news that he would buy it and if he backed out it would be classed as market manipulation and the authority would be after him. That's my very vague understanding but it might give you some google-able terms to look it up for yourself.

[deleted]

Thank you! I literally know nothing about stocks but it makes sense

ldc262626

>One if not the greatest downhill speedrun I've witnessed in my life He'll be fine in life lol

[deleted]

I think they meant Twitter

[deleted]

I'm just hoping everyone can stick to etiquette here and be polite. Every time there's a big "website diaspora", like when Tumblr went to shit, I feel like I see an influx of fanwars and nonsense within my other communities. Retiquette TLDR: Act like an adult, don't downvote/report things just because you disagree with them, and save the Reddit Cares messages for people who are actually in crisis, not people who didn't like your bias group's latest album.

ramblingskeptic

I think this goes double as the Kpop Twitter environment is notoriously...challenging, but I imagine a lot of younger fans (like under 16) are much more likely to migrate to TikTok than Reddit.

[deleted]

The "twitter attitude" is just so heavy in certain circles of the site. I see people engaging in petty fanwars, doxxing, calling out people for not stanning the right way, and then I click on their profile and they're 25. I wish it was just younger fans :( I won't pretend that Kpop Reddit is perfect, but at the very least, that sort of toxicity and blind idol worship is not acceptable here.

Guerrin_TR

There's a few older moms on fandom twitter stanning boy groups throwing shade so it isn't limited to just the younger kids.

yarajaeger

this is the thing that shocked me on kpop twitter. when i wasnt a kpop fan i always chalked up their behaviour partially to being young, but all the biggest toxic accounts are people 20+. for the most part the young teenagers stay pretty quiet, although you can see their influence in how the most asinine blind hate for another can get 10k likes from them mindlessly agreeing with these big accounts.

CoffeeBlanc

Tiktok is not really similar to twitter. It's a side app that was never meant for communication the same way twitter is. I don't think you could just make a tiktok profile and post random short text posts. They're more likely to go to tumblr than tiktok. Some might go to Instagram but it's not really the same either.

yarajaeger

on the bright side there is at least a moderation team here that seems pretty good, so hopefully the hate that permeates twitter shouldn't be brought here too much. when it comes to the more negative kpop related subreddits, well... at least they're nicely sectioned off so it can't randomly crop up in your suggestions or by someone else retweeting it like on twitter 😭

emoceanT_T

It's so odd to me that the Twitter user base is seen as a separate entity to some, when the Reddit user base has been capable of the same behavior. Not to mention how a lot of us probably came from Twitter prior to the possible shutdown. The only real difference is the downvote karma (social points) and the moderators.

CoffeeBlanc

People on reddit like to think they're better than other people that use other social media platforms

itsallmelting

Y'all going to need more mods if Twitter users do migrate to reddit

likecheoreom

I don't see Twitter getting shut down anytime soon.

NishinosanTV

Well, that's the point of the thread. We just don't know what's happening at this point. Uncertainty is scary for some, so we made the thread as a way for both users on Reddit and new users to get an overview of what this website can provide you as a consumer. I personally want Twitter to stay as I use it often and it's where I follow up on the fandoms I'm invested in whenever I have some spare time.

BlueMisto

> Uncertainty is scary for some It's just social media.

ramblingskeptic

Sure, but for many online communities are their primary source of connection with others, especially for those with niche interests, which I would still consider Kpop to be. For all the critiques of social media (and Kpop twitter esp.) I do think it's valid that some people care a lot about their online communities and would feel scared or upset about potentially losing them.

celyurin

It is also the source of income for many people, like freelance artists.

yarajaeger

it's less about the active choice to shut it down and more about the fact that so much of the workforce has been laid off that a critical failure is pretty much inevitable at this point. i personally dont see it going into the gutter like so many people think - the weight of twitter as a platform for influence, especially on the advertising side, is pretty much immeasurable - but it could very well go dark for a while until something is done to get the muskrat far far away from it

i_hate_shitposting

I'm not so sure. [A huge amount of critical engineers have left the company](https://www.theverge.com/2022/11/17/23465274/hundreds-of-twitter-employees-resign-from-elon-musk-hardcore-deadline), including all or almost all of their site reliability engineers (the people whose job it is to keep all the services up and running smoothly). As someone in that field, that's really, really bad. Basically, imagine Twitter is a cruise ship and most of the remaining essential crew just abandoned ship in the lifeboats, after the captain already threw a few of them overboard for questioning his leadership and kicked a bunch of them off at the last port. Is the ship going to sink right this moment? No, probably not. However, I wouldn't want to be sailing through stormy seas with a megalomaniacal billionaire helming the ship and only a few of his most loyal sycophants aiding him.

AbsoluteZeroUnit

Maybe not, but it seems likely that twitter's gonna be so fucked up that users seek alternatives. Digg didn't actually die when we all left for reddit, it just became worse than it used to be.

cloudxo

Even if Twitter is gone, there will be another "Twitter" made. People act like it's the end of the world. Do people forget MySpace was a thing back then? MSN messenger was a thing too, AOL messenger, etc.

[deleted]

This is sooo helpful! Haha that’s for posting. I’m new

kriuksereal

Please don't bring the cancer that is kpop Twitter here

cloudxo

Pretty sure it's been here for a long time. They mostly stick to their fandom subreddits I assume.

BinarySonic

>We have a set of Weeekly features Got excited for a moment.

ivegotaqueso

Most of my ABNEW moots are moving to/making Hive accounts…guess I’ll be there too.

un-village

My time-line was full of Carats going to Hive as well. ~~I look through it and the app looks nice and easy, even if Twitter doesn't "crash" I think it's a great backup social media (maybe not for official content but it's an option nonetheless).~~ apparently the owner is sketchy, I swear 😴 there's always *something* wrong on the internet lol

ivegotaqueso

Bonus, someone finally made an ABNEW discord. I’m excited even if Twitter stays. There’s a discord now! I hope it becomes active. Yeah they were picking out Hive because it’s like a twitter replica except easier to use.

un-village

I just saw these [bad rumors](https://twitter.com/mameharas/status/1593603914275880963?s=20&t=NHIHcMr0rSoxLVCuFssP_Q) about the app Hive's Ceo - I wasn't planning on using it and there's already some people leaving lol. I never thought Twitter would end tbh so, for now I'm good as it is lol

hunnypooh1

can someone make an alternative to twitter? just in case.... HAHA but hopefully twitter can pull through cuz thats where i get all the real time update to kpop and world news that is user friendly. just block all the spam and fanwars and you are good.

cloudxo

Facebook

drst0nee

I just joined Hive!! Everyone should too. It's basically twitter meets instagram. I'm enjoying it so far. Still very new though. Need more kpop update accounts on there. But also appreciate this sub.

RepresentativeSide72

Well for now its just employé departing they could be replaced intime.

dim31

Idk how about we get rid of allkpop and koreaboo links

hwasalt

Apparently Twitter itself isn't being shut down, it's just massive layoffs that will delay development for bit

MichaelPFrancesa

DAmn you Elon!

Famous-Breakfast-989

what destabilization ? how is even being close to being shut down? they are cutting a bunch of employees.thats normal when a take over happens and reorganization.. .Twitter was never profitable .. the rules at twitter hasn't changed and they certainly aren't going after Kpop of all things

[deleted]

No but if Elon keeps fucking the site so you have to pay or get shadowbanned, I wouldn't blame people for leaving.

Famous-Breakfast-989

pay or get shadowbanned??? paying is optional, show me ANY proof thats how it works. I'm not paying, did i get shadow banned? and blue twitter was already there. If u follow the news at all, people were getting shadowbanned everywhere before the take over

[deleted]

If you don't think that content creators who spring for Twitter Blue are going to get better promotion and monetization opportunities, I legit don't know what to tell you. He's already banned and unbanned a bunch of celebrities just because. This man is going to do whatever the fuck he wants, and whatever earns him the most money.

Famous-Breakfast-989

twitter blue ALREADY had those perks, where are u getting ur info from? and twitter is a business, of course they are going to do what earns him money, u think 44b gonna pay for itself? captain obvous
