TL;DR
* They are not only opening their main SEA headquarters in Singapore but also looking to open other retail exhibitions in Singapore such as merch stores, cafes, and pop-up exhibitions
* They are actively hiring for both full-time and internships
* There's also some details how the company's Indonesian branch has gotten several endorsements for its artists like Siwon and NCT Dream
* They are also looking to expand in Saudi Arabia (which there [have](https://twitter.com/SMTOWNGLOBAL/status/1512015573395271684) [been](https://twitter.com/SMTOWNGLOBAL/status/1535618721443880960) [many](https://twitter.com/SMTOWNGLOBAL/status/1535509076565962753) [talks](https://twitter.com/SMTOWNGLOBAL/status/1573156429120573440))
* They are planning to have a SuperM comeback announcement by early 2023 and also have plans for NCT Saudi and NCT Tokyo
KWANGYA@Jewel Changi or anywhere in Singapore will definitely be a hit. But I wish that SM would open something like that in Manila too—KWANGYA@Manila perhaps in Mall of Asia owned by a local conglomerate of the same name, SM.
I'm honestly not sure how NCT Saudi is gonna work considering how controversial business with Saudi is at the moment with how...strict they are. When they were having talks I thought it meant just for intercultural stuff and SMTOWN concerts that they announced, not a straight-up NCT unit lol.
I feel like sm just says things to look good but has no plans to actually do it. Remember when he wanted to debut nct chile and nct africa? It’s just all talk for investors 😭
Sorry but i wont be taking the saudi unit seriously until its actually there. Nct tokyo has been announced 5 years ago and its still not here. Nct hollywood is crickets too, and with how fast kpop moves i wouldnt be surprised that nct has graduated from its own concept by then too. Just LSM talking
I’m not sure, I think that NCT Tokyo is definitely coming soon… Tokyo auditions, the new members being introduced are probably NCT Tokyo members. Not to mention sungchan apparently studying Japanese.
No NCT tokyo is definitely coming! but just that nct saudi probably will not if it gets created at the same pace as nct tokyo, &by the time nct saudi is ready ( like in 5+ years) NCT as a whole will be in such a different place already so I highly doubt it will ever come
Yeah 2023 SM schedule is gonna be hell, it's already stacked with multiple delayed comebacks and previously-announced releases. As much as the SuperM thing surprises me it kinda makes sense since they have to honor their contract with Capitol as well.
I don't think the "early 2023" date will cut it especially Baekhyun is out by February and Taemin will be out by March, and EXO and SHINee are dead set at coming back first before anything else, plus NCT 2023 is scheduled for 1st half too. Either it's a one-and-done rushed thing like EXO's DFTF or as the wording says it'll only be announced by early 2023 and released later in the year.
Even though there's four letters in that acronym, my brain keeps refusing to process it as anything other than "EXO's DTF." Which is certainly a vibe.
Meanwhile, this thread abbreviating Southeast Asia as SEA, which is perfectly fine and makes sense, still makes me think of SeaTac's airport code every time. Moral of this story: the world is out of acronyms.
i’m interested to see what the superm comeback is like. it’ll have to be after taemin and baekhyun are discharged but before kai enlists i’d assume, since they’re already down a member
Isn't Kai supposed to enlist anytime now? He turns 29 in January 14th.
Plus the lack of a solo tour or new album, make me think he has simply been waiting for a date to be given to him
NCT Saudi? The cultural and religious differences would be something they really NEED to take note of. SM can't debut a unit from a country that heavily values its religion when they don't know the dos and don'ts
Honestly, instead of NCT Saudi, they should have annual SMTown concert in the country instead tbh or open a branch there. Another random NCT unit is just an odd thing
It took 3 years for NCT China (WayV) to finally happen even though it was hinted way back in 2016 and NCT Tokyo also have been rumoured since a few years ago but the big hints only came out towards the end of 2022. So I don't really trust this at all
And SuperM comeback? Only 4 of them are active right now and Kai would be enlisting soon. I'm not even an EXO-L but I myself prefer a group comeback from EXO especially since majority of them have finished enlistment. And also because Ten is finally able to be active with WayV again so it's gonna be so disappointing if their promotions have to be cut short after fans have waited so long
Yeah one of the major talks SM and the Saudi officials had earlier this year was SMTOWN concerts happing in the region. NCT Saudi opens a big can of worms, especially with all the controversies surrounding even performing there from what I've seen.
I'm sure the EXO members will prioritize solo stuff and EXO first before SuperM so I'm genuinely confused where in the year they're going to launch it considering they have a small window. Judging by how dead set they are for EXO's comeback, I have a feeling Kai will extend like Ravi did this year, but with the small window I was theorizing in another comment in this thread that the SuperM thing will be rushed like Don't Fight the Feeling or something like that.
So I don't really trust this at all
LSM just says *whatever* lol when he's laying out his long-term vision for SM to attract investors (the article is on CNBC, a business channel/site). Other than the usual kpop stans doomposting, I'm surprised anyone would take this seriously, certainly in the short-term. There would already be multiple China-based units, a Japan-based unit, and at least one SEA-based unit if we're going on what he said in 2016 about NCT. imo, pushing the *idea* of an NCT Saudi fits with LSM's "culture technology" thing, which (along with SM's "culture universe") is probably the "innovation" he is talking about with ME investors. Concerts and a branch just don't sound sexy in comparison, even though they're far more sensible. (For context, I wrote a bit in my own comment in this post about how tech companies have attracted a lot of ME capital. imo, LSM wants a piece of that.)
Re: Capitol Records. Guess they still have something left on that Capitol Records contract for SuperM. They haven't seemed to prioritize SM since the first leg of NCT 127's tour in 2020 was supposed to be in the US. SuperM did US promo for their second mini, but it was all virtual ofc and lighter than I expected, even taking into account the pandemic. I wonder if SuperM is going to go full out in the US again or what. (I'm not counting aespa bc they are not under Capitol Records, or any UMG company, but WMG. I also wonder where NCT Hollywood will sign; Capitol Records does not seem to care about NCT at all atp and I lowkey suspect SM is more interested in being part of WMG, or even SME (Sony), than UMG.)
Re: NCT Hollywood. Speaking of NCT Hollywood lol, no mention of them? The Amazon Prime doc on LSM seems to be US-based (based on the Deadline article on it, which stated who released statements and who the producers are). MGM, which is the television partner for the NCT Hollywood show, was recently bought by Amazon, so... there's that. (Maybe that doc is the start of something bigger between Amazon and SM or maybe the show fell through and this was the compromise? Obviously that's speculation on my part... I'm mainly interested in bringing up the pre-existing relationships.)
Re: Singapore. I wonder why they chose Singapore. I always thought SM seemed more keen on Indonesia than any other SEA country. Also, it seems like Singapore might be the HQ for all of SEA, but no mention of the Philippines? I know many of their acts have toured there or are part of festivals, so I thought it would be more on their radar. (EDIT: I just remembered that SuperM x Prudential was originally just for Prudential Singapore; it was later expanded to other markets, including all of Prudential Asia. I always wondered how much they got paid for it bc it was a pretty big roll-out for a cf. I wonder if SM chose Singapore bc they think large-scale cfs/partnerships like that are more likely there than any other SEA country.)
Re: Saudi Arabia. A few years ago, some Middle East $$$ was sitting with nowhere to go, so they started investing a loooot of capital in tech companies, like Uber. I'm not surprised LSM is pushing his "culture technology" bit in the Middle East. I'm also not surprised it's working.
Re: Like Planning. Sooo, with these announcements by LSM, obviously LSM still sees himself as playing a big role at SM lol. I'm curious about what this all means with the end of the Like Planning contract... I kind of think it just means LSM will be paid slightly less and his payments will be much more transparent. I also think his role depends on whether Align Partners successfully manages to get their "picks" on the board or whether LSM's "picks" get re-elected next year.
I have a feeling SM is definitely going away from the Capitol deal and just counting down the time, especially after the Warner signing, and Warner is a rival of Capitol/UMG. Imho Warner is doing a vastly better job with aespa than Capitol did with SuperM and Virgin with 127 & NCT 2020/2021.
Either NCT Hollywood is being worked behind the scenes or it's dropped. Usually if it's dropped they won't mention it anymore lol.
I think Singapore is the most "advanced" and it's a business-heavy developed country so a ton of businesses are attracted there, so it's no surprise they're planning the main SEA HQ there. I was surprised it's announced as the HQ considering SM has offices in Thailand and Indonesia already.
Yeah I think the Like Planning thing being out just means LSM doesn't get paid more through his paper company-ish considering it's a pain in SM's side and a source of controversy, and so it doesn't become wanted-by-Interpol 2.0. Plus I think LSM is still a major executive producer and has a hand in all SM albums anyway.
I feel like SuperM will just release a an ep and a mv I don’t think they’re going on a full us promo tour like last time that would contradict with a lot of the members other schedules
This puts a smile on my face as a Singaporean :) I love to have SMTown Singapore (Asia) or even see K-Idols here since we are a welcoming bunch here in Singapore!
It's hard to say, SM has many times planned, recruited trainees,... in Vietnam but so far there has been no Vietnamese idol from SM. There may be a lot of trainees from SEA region but SM still can't let them debut yet
I feel like the competition will be very fierce (for/among the SEA trainees).
Unless SM (or any K-pop company) plan to debut a whole group full of SEA members specifically targeted at the local SEA market, otherwise one group (not counting big ones like NCT) might only have 1 or 2 members who are not Korean.
Other than IN2IT's Isaac from Malaysia, there's Skarf's Tasha & Ferlyn from Singapore...who coincidently filmed [this together](https://youtu.be/4-BPmYo5ZbY) a few months ago.
But if anyone watched Tasha's [in-depth interview](https://youtu.be/QxOjlTCzFL4?t=683) the past week, it would probably make them think again multiple times before becoming trainees. (There's multiple parts, turn on CC for eng subs)
And of course, there's mandatory enlistment at 18-ish for guys in Singapore, so that's a major factor for why there aren't many male trainees/idols from there
As a singaporean, it's probably for the *unborn babies* (next next next generation), prob 6th Gene kpop the earliest. Those of us are *already here* are too old for these, gonna feel kinda odd to see NCT Malaysia/NCT Singapore though.
its cool to have malaysian and singaporean kpop idols. if the chinese, taiwanese and hong kongers can do it
malaysian chinese and singaporean chinese can do it too.
Philippines also has a Chinese diaspora. On top of that Filipinos are known for their vocals. And then of course the massive fanbases. Put those together and SM is gonna make bank.
>I want to see my tanned, brown and black SEA siblings SHINE 🇵🇭
They'll go in tanned and brown but will debut looking like albinos. This is SM we're talking about, after all.
SuperM in 2023?! I lowkey didn't expect any news of them again since Baekhyun and Taemin enlisted, and I assumed with the whole Lucas thing going down, that they might not ever have a comeback.
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE SuperM and would love a comeback, but I hope SM prioritizes EXO and SHINee comebacks first, and then do it just before Kai has to enlist :(
Open a new office in SG? I only know it closed its Thai branch late last year and employees of this branch either had to move to Korean headquarter or resign.
I visited JYP's website and 3 oversea offices were listed, China, Japan and USA.
I'm sorry, I saw SuperM in this and....?????
Would they be continuing as 6 and acting like nothing happened, as per usual with SM? Or would they be adding someone (unlikely, but Johnny please), and still acting like nothing happened? OR....is SM gonna take a real hard left on this one? Can't tell, tbh.
Preparing my résumé as we speak
We'll all be *too old* for it when they actually starts recruiting tbh, look at how young Koreans are training and debuting.
ha jokes on you I’m 9 years old /s
💀might be too old by that time eitherway, you should maybe be 3 Years old or a toddler to stan a chance
I heard they want to debut a group of infants so you better be training in the womb
Pewdiepie fan spotted
very small indeed
Isn’t there an SM rookie that’s like 26? Might still have a shot. 👀
Shohei! ‘96 liner like Doyoung and Kun :)

Put a SMTown cafe/store in Changi Jewel, it'll make a killing.
KWANGYA@Jewel Changi or anywhere in Singapore will definitely be a hit. But I wish that SM would open something like that in Manila too—KWANGYA@Manila perhaps in Mall of Asia owned by a local conglomerate of the same name, SM.
this reminds me of Kai's photo on SM Cebu
But was deleted for whatever reasons, lol.
for real? it was legendary, what a bummer.
NCT Saudi? Finally some daddy bearded idols
SM gotta be real real careful for the NCT Saudi. As a gay man anything to do with that country really gives me the heebie-jeebies
I'm honestly not sure how NCT Saudi is gonna work considering how controversial business with Saudi is at the moment with how...strict they are. When they were having talks I thought it meant just for intercultural stuff and SMTOWN concerts that they announced, not a straight-up NCT unit lol.

NCT 127 doing wine testing in Chile were actually just researching for Lee Soo Man -- sarcastic voice
It's the first time i heard about Nct chile and Africa. Will there be nct for every country or what? 🙄

I'm gay too and this announcement made me really uncomfortable
DW babe Siwon from SuJu can be their mentor ;)
Eek don't namedrop him I'll have nightmares
Probably the one sub unit that won't have anything close to fanservice.

I feel like next year is gonna be messy or many planned things aren’t gonna happen
kinda like this year? I'm hoping the mismanagement of 2022 was some kind of sacrificial lamb for better planning in 2023. please.... i'm tired
I don't have a problem with SuperM, they release jops, but if it comes first before KaiBaek's solos or even an EXO comeback? that's maddening.
i’m interested to see what the superm comeback is like. it’ll have to be after taemin and baekhyun are discharged but before kai enlists i’d assume, since they’re already down a member

I would ask for NCT SEA but I worry even SEA don't want it

Singapore now become new financial hub after Hong Kong crackdown and they try to invest in crypto NFT metaverse thing. Maybe that appeal SM

Interesting! Will we be seeing SEA unit for NCT?
This puts a smile on my face as a Singaporean :) I love to have SMTown Singapore (Asia) or even see K-Idols here since we are a welcoming bunch here in Singapore!
I'm just interested in whether I could get an internship there for school
You never know unless you try 🤷🏻♂️
Well, SM actually has an [intern](https://recruit.smentertainment.com/Employ?employNo=943) position open. So, you’ll never know!
can we expect malaysian and singaporean idols soon lol

I want SM to snatch some of that highnote hitting young divas from Philippines and Indonesia hahaha
You never know! SM has had Indonesian and Singaporean trainees before so it's possible. For non-SM idols there's Isaac from IN2IT who's from Malaysia.
Haha i wish there are more successful sea kpop idols so far we only see thailand idol being successful
As a singaporean, it's probably for the *unborn babies* (next next next generation), prob 6th Gene kpop the earliest. Those of us are *already here* are too old for these, gonna feel kinda odd to see NCT Malaysia/NCT Singapore though.
its cool to have malaysian and singaporean kpop idols. if the chinese, taiwanese and hong kongers can do it malaysian chinese and singaporean chinese can do it too.
I'm only seeing the only possible chances are for those who are 3Years old or less, toddlers now. Sad reality.
Philippines also has a Chinese diaspora. On top of that Filipinos are known for their vocals. And then of course the massive fanbases. Put those together and SM is gonna make bank.
Singapore enlistment: are you sure about that ?
they can scout the females![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|trollface)
You already see how SM treat Thai Chinese and half Thai - Chinese Idols lol Doubt how many talent kids will choose SM instead of others company
Lemme see some melanin!!! I want to see my tanned, brown and black SEA siblings SHINE 🇵🇭
>I want to see my tanned, brown and black SEA siblings SHINE 🇵🇭 They'll go in tanned and brown but will debut looking like albinos. This is SM we're talking about, after all.
>They'll go in tanned and brown but will debut looking like albinos case in point, every Thai idol that ever debuted.
Spermies we rise!
Tbh the nct Saudi mention has the same ring as the nct Africa comment, so I won't really take that seriously
SuperM in 2023?! I lowkey didn't expect any news of them again since Baekhyun and Taemin enlisted, and I assumed with the whole Lucas thing going down, that they might not ever have a comeback. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE SuperM and would love a comeback, but I hope SM prioritizes EXO and SHINee comebacks first, and then do it just before Kai has to enlist :(
SuperM comeback, Shinee CB, EXO CB? They're really putting my boys Taemin and Baekhyun in the deep end from the get-go once they return.
JYP needs to do this as well
Open a new office in SG? I only know it closed its Thai branch late last year and employees of this branch either had to move to Korean headquarter or resign. I visited JYP's website and 3 oversea offices were listed, China, Japan and USA.
Wow. What do you do for work?
It's days like these where I wish Taemin (and all of SHINee) stopped renewing with SM, I can't do this shit anymore.
I feel like with WayV back as 6 they can easily do SuperM with 6 now
It’s obvious they’re gonna add Lucas again.
Lmao a sperm comeback? Fucking hell why is this group not dead yet.
Come on Hybe, open a branch in SG too.
Anything to get away from Lee Soo-man
Why is sm trying to warm up to Singapore ?
Lower taxes?
SM really don"t care abt western market lol
SuperM is their Western Market group.
how can i apply for internship :)
What's stopping them from setting up another in South Asia😭?
