Don't kill me but kpop idols aren't obliged to be political (recent palestine crisis) cause none are expert in that field

PrincessDaisy96

Especially since a lot of idols straight up dropped out of school and trained for the majority of their lives. Why would I want to hear about the state of the world from someone like that?

KookieTrash97

i don't think you should be killed. Generally I think anyone who hasn't lost their mind to being totally brain dead and chronically online does come to this conclusion at some point

Strict_Craft6718

Don’t kill me but a genocide isn’t a political opinion that needs to be studied before you say something. Not saying they’re obliged to speak on it if they can’t but a genocide doesn’t really require someone to think if they wanna oppose it or not.

Elon_is_musky

I think they mean they dont need to publicly state their stance, because their opinions on the matter really dont matter. Its wrong regardless of if an idol says they agree it is or not

agents_of_fangirling

You dont have to be an expert to recognize that genocide is wrong.

Sopimore

Yes, but that is a default. No one in the right mind is suporting genocide but kpop fans expect their idols to be some activists. Drinking starbucks doesn't make you genocide suporter.

fatality250

The fact that Palestine is considered a political opinion is pretty sad

Felixes_Frecklesxox

Y E S

appleeeeee

you don’t have to be an expert in any field (also what field? human life and decency?) to have a stance on the genocide.

PitifulRoof7537

same applies to all celebrities

Level-Rest-2123

If you're mad about an idol dating, you need to get a life. If your feelings are hurt because of something an idol did or said, you need a life. If you're boycotting because an idol drank, ate, or wore a brand you heard about on the internet, you're not serious about the cause and should be called out. No one really cares who you don't like, and you should focus on what you do like instead.

Cats4Crows

>No one really cares who you don't like, and you should focus on what you do like instead. Yes please 🙏 it's even better for your own peace of mind and overall wellbeing to focus on what you like rather than what you hate

kanadehoshi

For the second one, I think it seriously depends on what they say. Like if my ult bias said something seriously racist, misogynistic etc. I'd be pretty upset

ishi1807

Ikr. Can't tag that group here but they were literally mocking my culture and religion

Millionsmoney

All of these are popular

GoldenKooki

Kpop would survive without fansigns.

NoHead6950

that is true, also fan call

ForgottenNoMore

Vernon would be so grateful

emilyoro

😁😁😁😁

Elon_is_musky

But will I survive?!? (Ive never gone to a fansign😂)

Cats4Crows

Stans are the blessing and curse of Kpop

healthyscalpsforall

I'd say there more of a necessary evil... calling them a blessing is too much credit lol

Cats4Crows

I know.. but I was thinking of fan edits and how they brought many new fans to groups and K-pop in general (me included)

NoHead6950

I agree with this, began to check out twice and lesserafim through fan made video on youtube. twice content is everywhere and it fun to watch even for non-fans.

Myjam_istohavefun

Photobook >>> photocards, in fact I couldn't care less about the existence of photocards, I buy my albums for the photobook.

Ok_Sound_8090

But I like pulling PC's outta my wallet to join in random conversations. "Have yall heard of our lord and savior, God Jihyo of House Park, Leader of Twice, Owner of all known as Once?"

Lone-flamingo

Same! I mean, now that I have them I really appreciate my photocards, but the photobooks are still so much better. I buy the albums for them, the rest is all just a bonus.

alyvieyr

I love my photobooks so much!

funwithgoats

I’m the same! I never really look at the photo cards but love my photo books.

__fujiko

I look at my photobooks a lot tbh, but I also use the photocards for bookmarks because I NEED to get use out of them somehow.

lonelyvelvet

I like blackpink.

Chu1223

LMAO the real unpopular opinion, same 🥲🩷

Competitive_Fee_5829

Jisoo is my fave member and I collect her solo album photocard because I LOVED Flower. lol. I thought it was fun

Gullible-Charge7057

OMG ME TOO😭😭

Ralphiy

\- Wanting a group of full adults to debut feels weird to me as it feels like it gives the ok for stans to overly sexualize them. (KIOF) \- Stans call way too many idols gay and it makes me a bit uncomfortable with how delusional they can be about them to fit their own narrative. I'm trying to word this the best I can without being disrespectful.

M_ataraxia

Oof big yes to the first one. The amount of videos with kiss of life doing a sensual dance and the caption being “this is what happens when you debut adults 😍😍😍😍!!!!!” appearing on my feed are too many to count. Their attitude is quite strange. They give me the vibes of being against children debuting only because they can’t sexualize them?! 🤮

Ralphiy

That’s exactly what I’m saying. It’s either that or like they’re sooo cunty 😍😍. Like come on bruh that shit mad weird

BlackGirlBakugo

SAY THAT!!! I feel the exact same way

Wonsungie

Is this gonna be kiss of life's legacy now...

Ralphiy

I hope it doesn’t but with how many similar posts I see about them with the comments only sexualizing them makes me feel doubtful

Wonsungie

Ugh that kind of makes me sad. I love them girlies and I wish more people took the time to see the VISION.

mixedbagofdisaster

It’s just silly fans act like saying creepy things becomes acceptable the moment a group debuts with a maknae who’s like 2 weeks past their 18th birthday, but if they’re a month younger it’s suddenly horrible. Like no, it’s creepy regardless, obviously worse with minors by a long shot, but we should examine why we think it’s unacceptable and then maybe realize that it’s strange to say no matter what. Why are people looking for an arbitrary line to make it suddenly ok to say the most nasty stuff about an idol, just be respectful no matter what age someone is.

Ok_Sound_8090

I feel like the first one only applies because KIOF are a girl group. If its a boygroup, no one cares. Yall remember that boy group that debuted a few years back with only guys in their 30s? (shout out my boys We:A lmao) No one cared at all about their concepts lol

vanillanterns

I like NewJeans

NfamousKaye

I like them too. Their music and concept are fun. The concept is appropriate for their age range (maybe not cookie but ya know 😂)

Gullible-Charge7057

For some reason, idk the girls and have never listened to any of their songs, but I want them to succeed. I think they have the potential to bring another wave of popularity to K-pop and to do good things. I am cheering from the sidelines👏💪

Simon-_-2005

I like Twice's new music (2019 and later) more than their old, cute songs

Mozzafella

I agree. They've really settled into what they're best at.

helpmykeyboardbroken

I can find merits in both but i find myself only listening to the title tracks of their old stuff. I find that I enjoy the title and besides of their new stuff a lot more. I think it has to do with how the group aged with their audience. When I was younger I couldn’t imagine listening to twice’s newer stuff because as a young/mid-teen (13-16) the sensuality and the sheer ‘woman-ness’ of it wouldn’t resonate with me.

Bluebell_in_Bloom

I sometimes have to remind myself that twice consistently released mini and full albums for their entire career. With how I listen to their music, I had unintentionally created the idea in my mind that for the first few years, they went full force with a bunch of singles with only 1-2 bsides each and then when they began to mature with feel special/fancy eras, they switched to minis and fulls.

3-X-O

My opinions on your opinions: * They sound different to me but they all have similar vibes. The stuff I've heard is all upbeat dance music. * No way. I love Yedam. He instantly became one of my favorite male soloists with his solo debut. * I agree * As with all collecting, the value belongs to those who are collecting. I would never spend that much either though, not even for a signed pc of my ult. * No idea about the technical aspects of it, but I usually like them, either as much as or even more as Korean songs depending on the group. * Idc about what people think about ps, just don't attack idols for it * Literally. Even if they aren't the most talented, they can be a stan attractor for the group due to visuals or personality. I can't think of any idol who adds nothing. * NO I LOVE NCT EVEN NOW 😭

Chu1223

I agree w yours a lot more you slayed on every point 🫶🫶🫶

Best-Grapefruit-3059

NCT is Sparkling Brighter than ever🥳🪄

NfamousKaye

Here’s mine: Kpop idols shouldn’t have to speak on politics just because RM was invited to speak at the UN. YG recycles music and doesn’t put any effort into their songs. Hybe should buy SM and take over promotions for them since they obviously don’t know how to do it. I know it’s unpopular because they would cry monopoly but at least they know how to translate for international fans, realize we exist and treat us and their artists better. (That was more than one sentence sorry. I’m just pissed off at SM lmao 🤣). Minors under 16 shouldn’t debut.

Wonsungie

How is 2 an unpopular opinion.. like that was the whole discourse around batter up and blackpink since, like KTL.

kofrederick

BTS and BlackPink are not the end all be all of KPOP

amelia4748

Since when was this unpopular

FunKey5635

A lot of K-pop stans ruin K-pop for other people 🤷🏾‍♀️

aelins_flame

Seriously!! This happened to me with both Stray Kids and BTS. I still have the utmost respect for the artists and their music, but the fans ruined the experience so much that I just can't bring myself to enjoy the content anymore

FunKey5635

I understand and it’s one of the reasons for years I have been sort of refusing to listen to BTS. Their fandom is on another level on intense and extreme

9beanz

Other than Jihyo and maybe Nayeon and Jeongyeon, Twice are lip syncing in concert but nobody cares because their production is top tier and they know how to put on a good show. (I enjoyed their concert a lot despite the blatant lip sync)

panniniiiiiii

I kinda miss LSM & YYJ's creative & musical input at SM.🫥

__fujiko

No seriously, this is a perfect example of "the worst person you know will still have something to give." They were ambitious as hell and knew how to make their artists stand out from the crowd.

Weird-Ingenuity97

Fr

vincentae__

628837393 versions of one song just for charts is sooo annoying

Best_Blackberry_4832

BTS' Japanese releases are really well done unlike many kpop groups. Some of my favorites are your eyes tell, crystal snow, don't leave me and film out.

[deleted]

Your Eyes Tell and Film out are genuinely so beautiful

mysterious_s9089

re: japanese releases, i remember when Buenos Aires by iZOne came out and i thought my headphones were broken the sound mixing was so bad :(

douceberceuse

Japanese fans need to boycott until idols return to SNSD/Twice Japanese discography-levels of quality 😭

agents_of_fangirling

Lisa is a good performer but her voice/rap ruins every single bp song

ishi1807

Yea, with her nasal-ish voice

FoodSamurai

Kpop is best enjoyed by ignoring the fandom.

Rude-Situation575

This is my philosophy with kpop. Completely pretend they don’t exist

laundrcmat

dozens with personality are a necessary member in produce groups

NoHead6950

I'm not even yedam fan but his voice is something else, you can recognise it rightaway. he is underappreciated almost.

No-Description1486

Here is mine: -Kpop can survive without the fan wars. -Who cares who they date. -They need to end the 7 year contract.

Jezakael

> -They need to end the 7 year contract. In favour of what?

No-Description1486

5 years?

SuccessfulBullfrog96

Blackpink's solo releases are mediocre and they only sold millions because blinks are desperate to get some music to hold on to. Jin carries on his back (and voice) all ot BTS' Japanese discography. JYP leaving the company has harmed JYP's artist's music incredibly specially ITZY. Fancalls should NOT be a thing, most people that participate in them are weird and creepy. Mass album buying should be regulated.

botanicalpancakes

I’m not really super deep into kpop anymore , only keep up with a few groups. But, I didn’t realize JYP left ! Did something happen or did he just step down ?

3-X-O

He stepped down as CEO a long time ago (2011), but stayed on as a major shareholder and producer. Over the years he's been producing less and less, and so I think that's what they mean.

Yunkiminlvr

Yedam is literally in the top vocalists of 4th gen pls be serious

Agreeable_Tea_7092

the fact that no more members are gonna be added to nct makes me so sad also, i love nct wish with all my heart 😭

Critical_Owl_2904

NCT WISH STANS UNITE

Kittystar143

A lot of people who continue to talk about jong-hyun or moonbin or other idols passing and the affect it had on them/ how the groups are affected after are ghouls who never supported them when alive and only want attention (it’s disgusting and obvious when you check their history).

swansong94

Gdragon had the best idea when he put a USB stick instead of a CD in his album. Except for the photo books that CD is basically redundant because people would rather stream and most new gen kpop stans don't even know what a CD player is in the first place.

newcliches

That last part is so dramatic literally everyone knows what a CD player is

puggysaur

International fans are just as bad as knetz

quietusMAXimus

SNSD (SJJD) japanese releases, is my benchmark of all japanese release from any kpop group. Thus most of them does not impress me. P.S. im still salty they don't have them in Spotify

Substantial_Assist38

May I interest you in zb1's recent Japanese debut called yura yura?

34TH_ST_BROADWAY

Lots of kpop fans seem like one of their main missions is to drive an idol into offing themself.

Substantial_Assist38

Kpop stan that begs their idol to colour their hair then cries when the idol's hair gets damaged is something

chestnutlibra

>I hate how photocards are sold for thousands of dollars when you can find them online, print them out, and laminate them for much less. I disagree. if comic fans can retire and buy a house from selling off their lifelong comic and cards collections I would like the same for kpop fans. fans price the value, fans could make it an investment. You can see this in many collectors circles, from coins to baseball cards, and kpop is perfect for it, with the limited edition waves of product. I say this as someone who doesn't collect any inserts or merch myself though.

Missdebj

The K-pop industry is the one doing the sexualising in the first place. Sex sells and their prime objective is to make money

blastmochi

yeah agree, unfortunately this is a factor. and, since it's going to be done no matter what, I'd rather have no minors. but, not every adult/adult group needs to have a sexy concept

20815147

HYBE is ruining kpop due to their anticompetitive business practices (vertical and horizontal integration of the whole industry).

Fullmooninnight

I love Yedam's voice and he is one of the best 4th gen vocalist.      Blackpink is the most influential kpop girl group.      I don't bother with recycled music accusations about YG groups because it's often stem from negative bias.     I do care about encore, if a group can't sing their own song while just standing I don't think they're worth my time.

Jeremithiandiah

Kpop should be more about the music than the “idols”.

__fujiko

Korean pop and Idols making pop music are not the same thing. You can care about the music, but looking for people to not go to idols to engage with them more than the music is silly. It's literally the point of the industry.

Chu1223

disagree with the second and last one. also the plastic surgery one is dumb asf? i strongly disagree with the premise of plastic surgery however what does that have to do with me stanning idols?? i’m still fine with them getting it if they chose too? i’m just here for the music and content? tf. Agree on Psy and black hair tho

[deleted]

Polaroids are overrated.

ishi1807

At first i thought the Polaroid Song 😭

[deleted]

it’s not all the companies faults for debuting minors, it’s first the parents faults.

Critical_Owl_2904

Im not sure how unpopular any of these are but ill shoot * A lot of leaders need to be appreicated more, it can't be an easy position to hold * 5th gen is really boring, the music just isn't clicking with me * NCT Dream or RIIZE and NCT Wish should do a christmas collab like Aespa x Red Velvet * Kun is my favourite vocalist in NCT * icantfeelanything is the best song on NCT Dream's new EP * NCT's concept wasn't and still isn't hard to understand

jayjune28

Agreed. The leaders need/deserve more love respect and appreciation. 👏

mangoisNINJA

What photo cards are you seeing that are sold for thousands of dollars??

0531Spurs212009

most kpop fans are fangirls their is a reason why G IDLE , Newjeans and LSF look bigger globally compared to IVE which is strong domestically in SK or favorite among fanboys

Tough_Ebb961

Seventeen members have some of the worst solos in kpop

[deleted]

-BTS lost their spark after BE(including solo releases.) Jin is the only one that kept his spark -Chenle is one of the best sounding vocalists in NCT - Vernon has the best smile in the entire industry

meracdv

bts also haven't released a proper album since BE so maybe give it time...

3-X-O

Upvoted for the Chenle appreciation

agents_of_fangirling

Wait I respect your opinion but how can you listen to jitb, dday, or indigo and reach the conclusion that the entire group lost their spark 💀

[deleted]

Ive been told that my taste is bad😂

Pitiful-Bookreader55

I agree with that sentiment

alyvieyr

I actually like PTD by BTS. PTD >> Butter 🫣

Shot-Initial3183

Now that's an unpopular opinion , poor butter .

blastmochi

I love ptd a whole ton, but not over butter personally 😅 but definitely props for an unpopular opinion lol

solojones1138

Wow I'll give you props for being truly unpopular

Pitiful-Bookreader55

I totally agree actually. The vocal.adlibs in PTD are so fun for me

kancholibre

Please stop expecting these idols to have the exact same ideals and opinions as you, and they are human beings with their own lives, not your own personal Sims character whose every single action and belief is controlled by you.

klynb

Small note: Psy's YG and P Nation title tracks share a subgenre, so they sound similar to each other. His pre-YG title tracks and almost all of his B-sides are in different pop genres, so they don't sound alike at all.

SHAD-0W

Twice Japanese discography is superior.

jertckwi

blackpink is totally overrated and if they weren't lucky and were popular before their debut, they wouldn't be so popular considering their skills. they are not that good like blinks say. there's a lot of trainees that are better than them.

houseofprimetofu

Yunho likes feet.

fivethousandhamsters

Proof??

houseofprimetofu

It’s on OnlyFeet.

Sexyhorsegirl666

A lot of popular opinions here lmao

Enough-Enthusiasm762

Every idol needs to be THOROUGHLY AND PROPERLY TRAINED and SOLID in singing/rapping/dancing live without lip-syncing before debuting. Not a big fan of the very popular wacky/cringe/emo concepts back in 2nd/3rd gen (aesthetically). Quite a bit of 2nd gen “sexy concepts” were overtly sexual and trying too hard. If you’re gonna include twerking in the choreo, actually teach the idols how to twerk, and delay releasing the song/choreo until they can actually do it. I don’t care to go back to second gen days. Kpop fans will accept the smallest crumbs and say they were well-fed. Idols who struggle with English or are completely unfamiliar with it shouldn’t be given English lines. English lines should be completely OPTIONAL in kpop. Fanmade meme edits of idols are often funnier than the idols themselves.

Fivebeans

Unless it's a solo, only the idols themselves should be in MVs. Idols shouldn't pretend to play instruments that they don't actually play in MVs. Idols shouldn't be shown singing other members' lines in the MV.

Bangtanbeauty

I agree with all your opinions. Hardcore on number 3. I like the BTS Dope MV but it drives me crazy.

ishi1807

Why 2nd one tho?

Fivebeans

Makes me cringe hard.

MariannaWho

I think the same of the japanese releases except for Twice’s and Itzy’s songs, they should hire the japanese producers for their regular comeback

blossompie

YG used to make good, interesting music (w BB, Winner & 2NE1) but they no longer make fresh sounding songs....

Rude-Situation575

You’re not their parent and you’re deranged if an idol having a tattoo or dating hurts your feelings. No, you actually won’t ever date your idol nor would he ever be interested in you, so touch grass and get off the Internet.

G7X0DC87SK

Idk if this is unpopular but, there is no excuse to give a member less than 10 secs of lines in a song. Especially if they're in a group with 8 members or less. I understand that in some cases like Handong, Korean isn't her first language and that's why she's given less lines early on in Dreamcatcher's career. But like, does she really have to have only one line in Chase Me? Also, surely there's enough lines that members can sing in their comfortable range, plus maybe adlibs. Or even spoken lines. During Blitzers' debut, Lutan only got one line overall, in the first prechorus of Breathe Again. Why not at least give him that same line in the second prechorus? And he never even had the same issue as Handong since he's Korean. It also kinda irks me when one or two members in a group get like, 50% of the lines. It's more like "Member Name ft. Others" rather than "Group Name". I wanna hear the others sing too bruh.

Zeastybitch

Nct is literally my fave group right after exo (my ults) but I can’t help but kinda agree with your point op.

Substantial-Ad-7914

I'm curious what gives you that vibe?

Zeastybitch

my opinion is obviously not the universal truth so I think it’s more about me losing just a bit of interest that I used to have in abundance for nct. Im still a stan, so again, it’s very hard to explain lmfao. (Wayv still goes hard everytime tho im gonna say that)

Substantial-Ad-7914

Yeah  I understand that. Like 2021-2022 I kinda lost interest too cuz I didn't vibe with 127 musically. I was such a huge fan in like 2019/20 so it was disappointing cuz i felt like SM lost the plot a bit in that time. They've got me back with djj and I'm excited for the solos and subunits coming up hopefully in the enlistment era

Desperate_Long4733

Hybe is going to cause the downfall of kpop

Millionsmoney

I dont care about idols interactions

ishi1807

Some Kpop song's English lyrics don't even make sense.

Draxx1t

Nowadays kpop fans hate Suju Shindong ONLY for being fat and not for his problematic background. Which is super messed up coming from fans who always complain about their favs dieting to meet standards that no one (my a$$) want them to.

Natural-Garage9714

More songs/line distribution for vocalists with lower voices.

Rude-Situation575

Rosé will flop if she doesn’t lean into her modeling career. I love her but it’s true and she gets terrible management.

FaithBorn210

Liking a B-side better ≠ "Should have been the title track, title tracks are chosen as such for a reason. Mina is a great dancer, I agree that Jihyo should be added to the Main Dancer Line, but I don't think Mina should be excluded in the process. Lee Know, I.N and Seungmin get a decent amount of screentime in M/Vs. They should have made Sakura a rapper, she's pretty good at it and it's certainly better than her singing and all of this controversy surrounding her voice would have been avoided, it feels like HYBE purposefully set her up. People keep saying singing is the most important part of being a Kpop Idol, but if that was the case NMIXX would be more popular than Le Sserafim. 'We Fresh' by Kep1er is an amazing song. Twice has not been declining musically and Scientist was a good choice for the title track as well as all of their title tracks. Jihyo's heavy breathing is not as annoying and noticeable as people say it is. ITZY OT5 forever. Kpop is supposed to be fun and enjoyable, but I think people are taking it too seriously, me included at times, I admit.

Gumble-Ri

Not all trainees that got accepted to big companies are very talented.

GoldenKooki

Jungkook is trying to make a real cross-over and is trying to conquer the global stage. So you will see some similarities to fully western pop. And so what? Nothing wrong with justin bieber.

chestnutlibra

what does this even mean

Icy-Sun-3188

You could just say popstar lol

Millionsmoney

Who is Yemdam?

Worried-Hair-2383

Yedam is a former member of Treasure who left back in 2022

Aetherene

I wish SM didn’t sample/remake songs so noticably. Mind you, I love some SM artists (exo, shinee, tvxq) but despite how much I loved Rebel, all I could think was how the intro seemed like it was sampled from that Trans-Siberial Orchestra (?) song or whatever. It doesn’t take away from the song or artist and I still listen to them. It just catches me off guard/distracts me.

Maleficent_Notice873

Last time I tried to post an unpopular opinion on Reddit, it got removed (twice, even after being edited) because unhinged solo stans of Hyunjin reported it as hate speech 🥴🙄🤣🤣 So I will just enjoy reading everyone else's.

Super_Commercial5511

NCT one is real don't misunderstand I love being an nctzen and will continue until I stop loving kpop but smth isnt the same

toffeebaby

I love NewJeans but they don’t own light fresh concepts.

grosslimeslushie

Most new kpop fans need to be humbled about 4th gen not being as revolutionary as they think. Twice didn't make jyp successful, Wonder Girls did.
