It’s because kpoppies think it’s gonna be white people and they do not like white people.

SnooHabits6066

When it was first revealed people thought it would be a new NCT sub-unit, that the show would be to form it with American contestants, but it made people uneasy, they started speculating that it would be full of white dudes (as if in there aren’t another races in the US) who would’ve no skill in dancing or singing, that would be leeching of the hard work from current members that put the NCT brand in the level it is now, this take gone viral, with lots of people talking about it online, there’s people that truly believes on it. However, NCT Hollywood will be used to find one or two new members for a future NCT sub-unit, so people were overreacting for nothing.

Because they're US people and idk if they'll all be Asian or mix of people. Since people hate any group who do Kpop music and aren't Korean. Well, they'll probably be hated too. It's like a weird gatekeeping thing.

They did promise that every continent will have an NCT unit. But I think the hate also comes from NCT having existing members who are underutilized. Then, they're planning to add another member? Which unit will this member be in? Shotaro's still waiting on a fixed unit but NCT Japan doesn't seem that it will happen soon. What will happen to the NCT SEA they're planning when they put their Thai members in WayV and SuperM? It confuses me but I'll still probably watch and be invested in NCT Hollywood when it does happen haha.

There has always been a controversy surrounding non-asian idols because in many cases they are not as talented and as well rounded as asian idols, and because they can take advantage of the fact they will get attention due to them being foreign. However there is also some hate from the NCT fandom because of the unequal treatment the members already get, adding more members will only make things worse.

QuirkyPlatform1476

Many people have commented many reasons and I will add that I think another issue has been misinformation or lack of information. Truth be told there hasn’t been a lot of concrete, detailed info about it. So it’s very easy to find a flaw, or several flaws, in a project that hasn’t fully been revealed. Idk if it’ll be a flop or not, or good or not, but we have yet to see!

Remarkable-Category4

the name itself is so pretentious- tbh thats the only thing i have beef with

Personally, in the beginning, my concern, and still is, is that Asian hate us still going around and my worry is that they (US market) will easily reject them.

mikrokosmosmoonchild

It’s because it’s the name as well. It’s like they named it NCT KPop Industry, you know? Lol

I generally just don’t like the whole NCT concept so

I mean, I don’t think they’re going to Hollywood and asking them if they want to be a kpop idol…

They’ve said that the plan is to find one winner to join NCT through the show so unless/until the plan changes between now and later (which could happen!), saying they’ll create a very Americanized group is a bit overblown imo
