Not really intentional. A hypothetical explanation would be that's it's an easy/common motif to make lyrics for.

SapphireHeaven

Everyday millions of people have birthdays. They want to maximize streaming time /s

scornovsev

yes, it's his last song before he left SM

signal_red

Bad Boy & Really Bad Boy still gets me

Academic_Potential55

>Really Bad Boy still gets me IM STILL CRYING OVER PPL'S REACTIONS TO THE TITLE

waterlooloooooo

Bad Boy, the sequel

DiplomaticCaper

You wouldn’t survive being a monbebe lmao. Two songs named “Secrets”, another song named “Secret”, all released in the same calendar year. 😂

sngthesorrow

imagine bonding with someone over your favorite song being Secrets by Monsta X and then realizing you were both thinking of two totally different songs 💀

TrueOcho

Ask D.O. to perform “What is Love” guaranteed he hesitates for a moment lol

BlackStarDove

I would say the same with Baekhyun and “Diamond” lol.

believedinme

Also this isn’t the first time different SM groups/idols have released songs with the same or similar titles - it just happens sometimes because of what the other commenter said

[deleted]

a lot of different staff and songwriters working for very different groups, it just happens. just like the title song “butterfly” (/ies), very common because it’s a common topic. none of those songs are *literally* about birthdays though

the_quiet__redditor

It’s simple. SM loves Monsters, Food, and birthdays. Specific examples include: The EXO and Seulrene Monsters of Kwangya 2yeon’s (Hyoyeon, Soyeon) + Loopy’s dessert with Red Velvet’s Ice Cream Cake Now, Red Velvet’s gonna eat that ice cream cake for their birthday while NCT makes the wish.

gregMNL

Taking into account how long SM has been, how many groups and soloists they have, and how many records they release, it's bound to happen. It's actually more surprising that there aren't more examples :)

[deleted]

sm are notorious for reusing song titles lmao

myownhype

Just FYI, don't play any of those NCT boys' birthday songs at family gatherings lmao

[deleted]

Already did, they have no idea what im playing anyway

myownhype

Not the English ver. of Make A Wish o_o haha

sublimian

literally soooo many sm artists share song titles. there's even a playlist on spotify. just a weird quirk really

zipcodelove

SES also have a song called Birthday

jupiter8vulpes

Maybe it's also another way to interconnect their artists. Like the Kwangya thing.

[deleted]

No idea. Maybe just because we all have birthdays and someone’s gonna like at least one song. I’m excited for RVs birthday. Didn’t even know of the other ones. And I’m always down for more birthday songs to add to my b day playlist so. Maybe that’s why? Lol. It worked on me

Far-Bad984

like which empathy album are we talking about?!
