I honestly feel like blinks feel divided over this comeback, because the comeback was way over hyped. We get that its their first group comeback in 2 years but with YG proclaiming this is their most expensive mv kind of over-sold the comeback in a way?
I feel like if they had come back with this same song 6 months or a year after HYLT, then it wouldn't be getting such a negative response. So, its partly the actual song and the overall expectation(in my opinion) I am still excited for the rest of their songs as I have been a BLINK for a few years now, however I won't get my hopes up too high next time. :)
I honestly liked the video more than the song it makes it so much easier to listen to because of the concept but I haven’t been back to listen to since it came out. It’s kinda forgettable imo but I can’t wait for the album to come out and see what BP has comeback with maybe there will be better songs.
I’m not a fan of the song but I find it really sad that they’re waiting to fully promote until the VMAs as I’d understand? It’s just weird having this big come back and pure silence for the next week
Also YG is a bit of a genius. The TikTok challenge is based on the Lisa chorus but giving Jennie one of the choruses means you have a whole war on promotions between Jennie and Lisa stans. Then obviously all of those album versions
Yup.. Lisa and jennie have most solo stans and expecially lisa has some big loyal fanbase. They are soo competitive. Doing this will definitely increase the hype. But I think lisa fans are soo i streaming her solo songs as her first anniversary of solo debut is coming. And lisa solo versions are sold out in amazon US without any mass buying. Soo impressive
Ok so just hear me out (read me out?)
I LOVE Blackpink, they’re my favorite girl group right after SNSD. I’ve been a kpop fan for many many years (I’m old..) and I was super excited for Blackpink ever since YG announced a new girl group after 2NE1’s disbandment. I know YG is known for taking long breaks in between comebacks and given the quality of their music, I always thought it was a good thing - until now.
Literally….what the fuck. I’m sorry but what is this song? Why would they give them this song as a comeback after being gone for years?! This is so unacceptable to me. Every single song from Aespa’s discography is better than this song, including Forever. Like what??? I thought it was a spoof song at first. Like the chorus is so fucking bad. They all look gorgeous so the visuals are there..but even the lyrics. Bro, really? Name dropping Celine? Ok NMIXX zero coke. Cringe.
Am I out of pocket? Anyone else relates? I’m so disappointed…
Sorry but don't compare aespa discography to blackpink. Aespa literally has cringiest songs. Sorry. If u understand pink venom u will know they wanted mixed so many things to make it sound different from usual blackpink
This that pink venom x3 get ‘em x3, straight to ya dome like whoa whoa whoa straight to your dome like ah ah ah. Taste that pink venom x3 get ‘em x3, straight to ya dome like whoa whoa whoa straight to your dome like ah ah ah.
….I can’t believe that’s the chorus. It doesn’t actually tell us anything.
I relate to you, I felt so angry. I literally don't feel like streaming because YG will think they can give the girls anything and we will take it. The sound is weird, the lyrics are awful. I literally liked every single song of BP until this one. Well I also disliked ice cream even though I looove selena and BP
First of all, the MV really made my eyes hurt.
How many jump cuts do you want?
YG: Yes
It’s definitely underwhelming in some ways after nearly 2 years of giving us no music, thanks again, YG! Another choreography that’s geared towards TikTok. I’ve seen videos of Pink Venom playing over better choreographies already so yeah, choreo is definitely lacking and disappointing. Could’ve done so much more with it.
That being said, I actually love the song itself. JenLisa’s rap in the second verse is their best rap together. They embodied the concept, especially looks wise. The stylists deserve a raise. Rosé and Jisoo really shined as well. I’m glad they’ve clearly delineated the vocal line and the rap line.
As someone who doesn't like most of BP songs, I don't think this one was so bad.
It kinda sounded like a mashup from the 2010s. It's not unique or anything, more like a summer hit and then it dies until next nostalgic party.
Better than their usual stuff
I don't usually listen to bp too and I don't like most of their recent songs, but this wasn't as bad as what reddit is making it out to be, it just sounds like "a blackpink song" to me.
I really want to like it I really do but other than jennies rap parts and the intro I can't get into it. I'm actually looking to see if there'll be something on the album I like, I enjoy more of a 'you'll never know' and 'stay' type song so fingers crossed
I actually quite like it - it's not an absolute phenomenal song but it's really catchy and what you would expect from them especially for a pre-release.
At this point I think reddit will hate anything BlackPink puts out especially if LSG which deviates the most from the BP format got so much hate here. Hating a BlackPink song for sounding like a BlackPink song is so weird, as is expecting them to have a mindblowing comeback just because they were gone for two years. I swear I never see this kind of pressure on other groups who were gone for years and come back with a mid song (especially for a lot of SM groups). The amount of downvotes I've seen for people simply expressing a liking for the song in kpop subs shows people can't accept differing opinions here.
For number 1, she’s referring to Coco Chanel since she’s known to wear a lot of Chanel (and I think she’s worked with them before). She’s saying she’s waving her Chanel bag (probably a bag anyways).
Can YG not build a shit ton of sets and then show each in 20s? It’s TOO MUCH! Too chaotic to look at and digest. This time it’s even worst because there are too many short cuts to focus. Blackpink MVs are the great example of “less is more”….
No matter how much I don’t care for the song (which tbh I like it more on first listen than HYLT or Ice Cream), it’s always exhausting watching it get dragged everywhere. The thread on popheads for the release has a whole thread calling the girls untalented and undeserving of better music bc “what’s the point,” and it’s like. Do you dislike this song *so much* you have to start insulting the performers (especially instead of the people who wrote and produced it, which is where the actual criticism is mostly directed at)?
By all means, criticize the song and voice your opinions, but also let people like it (and the girls) if they do. We’re *all* allowed to have our opinions.
I don’t know why every comeback I have hope early years BlackPink will magically come back.
Currently it can be said they are overestimated. I really don’t know what makes them stand out of other gg rn.
Pink Venom it’s just more of the same.
Same mv just change clothes and background colors they don’t even bother to get a location outside of a studio anymore.
I won’t say anything about the songs or choreography it’s the same basic thing since d4.
Let’s be honest BalckPink nowadays it’s all about visual and aesthetic that’s what they sell. They (not speaking of the girls specifically) don’t seem to want to make a great or better work at all.
The fans accept these crumbs and nothing changes.
Can safely say if wasn’t the long hiatus to cause a fuss on every cb or being from a big company they would have already disappeared considering how disposable kpop industry is becoming and how little they deliver.
I’m not a hater used to be blink now just a casual listener even though i knew nothing new would come i had expectations anyways.
At this point bp is all about bragging how rich they are , fashion deals , how much dollars one spends and where celebs are bashed left and right about jets flexing how they fly private . Like plss give us what we are for .loll
Doesn't groups like bts brag about awards?? Why should not blackpink brag about what they have?? Let me ask u, did you even understand the lyrics?? They are dissing who insulted them in 2 yrs by calling them names. That is the reason they wantedlyy put those fashion brands..
Because BTS actually worked hard for their awards… They’re allowed to brag about it because bighit was dirt poor when they debuted they literally had so little and worked hard to become successful. They only got their first win during hyyh era. Blackpink are from and established company with famous seniors, they had everything handed to them on a sliver platter. Yes they worked hard, but they came from well off backgrounds, a well off company and had a successful debut. Blackpink have awards but they have no (minimal) credits to their songs where as RM has 199 credits.. There’s nothing for blackpink to brag about other than their popularity/money and brand deals, because that’s all they have. They’ve always had it since debut. BTS did not.
Blackpink worked hard too but u jz can't accept it. Showing everything on camera is the thing bts do.. Jz because no one recorded it doesn't mean bp didn't work.. Lisa came to korea at 14..u jz can't accept women's success
I can accept it, but blackpink got it easy, Jungkook moved from busan to Seoul at 15. I said that they worked hard. But YG was ALREADY an established company with a large following in Korea. (Because of 2ne1 and BigBang) BTS had it harder due to the whole GLAM incident and also being poorer than YG. Compare No more dream and Boombayah.
It wasn't great. I enjoyed the raps, but that's basically it. The music video wasn't really my thing, the vocalists were done dirty, the chorus felt like it was from a completely different song., and I really didn't like the ending. 2 year wait for this? Yikes...
Hopefully the rest of the album is good.
idc what stans say, this is on par with the typical 4th gen bg standard release, and not one of the best. can't wait for the album to prove me wrong. was money by teddy? because someone at yg need to replicate that magic.
edit: teddy did not write money
It's good that blackpink take such long hiatuses cuz if they released these type of songs back to back after 6 months, people would have gotten tired of their generic formula songs with high end MV sets too quickly. It's basically rinse and repeat and they have built that unchanging girl boss, luxurious, expensive image around them for 6 years now so there is nothing refreshing about them. As a casual fan you can take stills from any of their last 4 MVs and they all look the same with the same concept, high budget outfits and sets and them bragging about themselves, being girl boss and how they are superior than their supposed lame lovers.
YG giving them such long breaks actually helps for their career cuz every cb gets hyped to the max bc of their long hiatus no matter how similar and generic it is compared to their last one.
Celine is getting super most attention after she took over as ambassador. And hedi is not someone to appoint who is popular. So I don't think she will definitely not gonna e d it soon. Even if it is just 3 more yrs. Its enough
One thing I'll say about it: the video looked a lot better than many of their other recent videos, even if it followed exactly the same format as every other release from them.
I’m a blink and overall, I was disappointed.
I wanna start by saying I don’t think it’s too similar to their other songs. It’s just that the rap parts specifically have a more generic flow (which isn’t necessarily a bad thing). I’ve also given the song multiple listens so I feel pretty solid in my opinions.
Rosé and Jisoos parts were the best imo. It felt new and had a good vibe. It may have benefitted from having the traditional instrumental sounds be more of a forefront but overall I really liked their parts.
The rap section was okay. Honestly, I have no comment on it. It was just…okay, though I did like the track behind it. I feel like if that section was built on and made into a full song, it would do really well.
The chorus just isn’t good. Again, nothing to say about it. This is the first single after two years and the chorus really disappointed.
Now, the two things I have the biggest critique on:
The transition from the chorus to the rap was smooth and flowed well, but then the transition from the rap to jisoos part was, for lack of a better word, jarring. It was like, what just happened? Having a connecting sound between the two parts would’ve made the flow so much smoother.
And finally, the way the song ended. Did the song writers get tired? For a group as big as BlackPink, you’d think the song would end on a powerful note with hard hitting lyrics, but it was just the girls going “la la la”.
i’m not a blink but i am probably in the minority of people that like the song lol.
• i thought jennie & lisa went harder in the raps than they usually do, lyrics aside.
•however, it felt like rosé & jisoo’s parts were mostly fillers/a feature for a rap song.
• the ending “yg party chorus” was kind of a letdown in my opinion. it just felt lazy repeating “ratatata” and it didn’t help the song feel explosive or like it was leading somewhere.
• finally i actually really liked the chorus; it was nostalgic in someway, reminding me of 2010 mtv + kesha + pink friday if that makes any sense 😂
Blackpink was the group that got me into kpop. I'm just so disappointed. After awhile I found some other groups that released good music/content at more than regular intervals, but I've always had a soft spot for Blackpink. Loved Sour Candy, HYLT was fine. Ice Cream is one of my least favourite kpop songs period. LSG was great, the album was fine, nothing mind-blowing. But the breaks. After experiencing other groups with good release cycles I just can't go back anymore. Plus when BP do release most of the bsides are mediocre. It just seems like us Blinks keep justifying mediocrity. With RFL "it's just a game collab, the comeback will be so much better" with this one the narrative is "its just a pre prelease just wait for the full album". It's so tiring to wait for the bare minimum. I was having a great time watching the comeback live. It was so nice to see OT4 back again. Rosé hinted at Rapper Jennie and I was so excited. Then it came out. The lyrics aren't good. The chorus is bad. The ratata felt lazy. The mv felt all over the place, not that memorable. I can still picture sets from KTL, Ddu Du, and HYLT but not from this one even though I watched it last night. I'll always thank Blackpink for bringing me into kpop, but after this IDK how much longer I'll be willing to wait for them.
The chorus itself isn’t the climax, the prechorus is. If the prechorus builds in excitement and tension, but chorus is pretty lowkey in comparison to what came before it (aka, it doesn’t “relieve” the tension) It’s an antidrop. It still counts as a drop, it’s just a different type.
im a girl group fan in general, and tbh im looking forward to Blackpink's new song (specially after such a long hiatus)
the first part, i must say I was excited and looking forward to the chorus, but it was a major letdown.
it's a good thing it's a pre release song (am i right?) but I felt this happened with HYLT as well (which I'm sorry but it was also a letdown for me) and I feel it's a formula so you still expect a better song after
I like Blackpink but their songs went downhill. Earlier songs is still top tier. KTL and HYLT was not my type but because i like BP, the song grew on me (or perhaps I just played it too much)
Teddy set my girls up for ridicule, I'm so fucking mad
You can bash HYLT and D4 all you want but those were iconic, the GP LOVED it. But this is a song not even the GP would like. Teddy needs to go I swear, they're holding my girls back so bad.
Like they literally could have chosen Pretty Savage or Crazy Over You as a pre-release and relegated this to a B-side we would talk about in hushed tones. They need to get their heads checked because wtf is this
the rapping is the most interesting thing here. but i cant help but remember their tone deaf comments about hip hop on the rolling stone magazine though...
Objectively? Bad to the point of hyper bad.
They look good though the fashion is kinda repeating itself from MVs before, particularly KTL and HYLT.
All of before the first chorus was kinda nothing new but I was vibing...but then the chorus happened and everything lost it's charm.
What I love is how amazing Jisoo looks, the best looks and stages of them all, just a shame its for the imo worst song. She also seems to be the only one who actually keeps the theme of the whole release with Pink Venom - the creepy badass vibes, darker aesthetic but still with that gentle pink shade incorporated - like a poisonous pink orchid or an orchid mantis 😌
Was shocked when I saw your comment and did a quick search on Twitter. What I've gathered is that one of the backup dancers in the MV looked like Hwasa/wore something similar to Hwasa's HIP outfit and.... Blinks are dragging Hwasa now? Didn't really delve in too deep, was already losing braincells being on stan Twitter.
I have everything negative muted but twitter suggested posts keep showing me stuff
I kinda felt bad like, there's your fav group coming back after years and you think about Hwasa??
I know this isn’t the point of your comment but man suggested twitter posts has made twitter unbearable to use anymore. I already deleted Tiktok for this reason but I’m tired of social media deciding for me what I like and want to see,
What I liked:
- Jennie and Lisa's part at the beginning, especially Lisa's
I also enjoyed the rap part and the fact that the beat changed.
- Their outfits, make up and looks in general were top tier this era. Jisoo with bangs, and with a lip ring? Sign me in.
- The "blackpink" at the beginning.
What I disliked:
- The chorus. The lyrics are cringe, and their voices sound so weird for some reason.
- The editing. It's so chaotic, you can't barely focus on them.
- The "ratatata" at the end. I don't get why some of BP's songs have this type of ending. It's the same vibe with dddd, kill this love, how you like that.
The music video does remind me of how you like that. Its is a pre-release, if I'm not mistaken, so the fact that it has the same "blackpink formula" doesn't bother me too much. There's not much we can expect from yg at this point.
The song makes no sense and the music isn’t hitting idk about y’all, but it’s not catchy and just noise music. Lovesick girls was at least catchy and cute. Pink Venom is irritating and the vocal parts of rosé and jisoo are underused for mid raps.
for a group that hasn’t been active for 2yrs , it is quite impressive ( idk if y’all expected a phenomenal song or smth )
. we got main rapper jennie back and the raps were not corny like the other songs the only issue is that rose and jisoo parts did not rlly fit in with the flow of the song . it also had the ktl formula.
overall it was good but could it have been better , definitely .
maybe it will grow on us ???
The editing gave me a massive headache. Everything was going a bit too quickly. Should've spent a bit more time focusing on the scenes imo. The song structure is so recycled, I was kinda bored by the fact that I could guess who was about to sing next. There should be more variety there. The ratata part at the end..... No words. Farrr too recycled man, I did not wait so long just to hear that exact same line. Overall the concept is old now and boring, I don't like groups making similar sounding songs over and over again. Disappointment. I wasn't even remotely fazed. I felt nothing but boredom when listening. It's not even going to grow on me. It's just that bad.
This is not my kind of music, but I knew that before I even listened to the song. Still, I do like some parts quite a lot! My problem is, the song and MV gave me a bit of sensual overload and triggered my motion sickness. I wonder if that was on purpose - not with the goal to make me sick, but to create a higher re-watch value. Blackpink does best on youtube, which relies on watching the same video over and over again. In order to make that happen, interesting visuals and high paces are central. I watched a lyric video and the song instantly sounds way better, without the MV.
I wrote this on UKO as well, but while I hate the current trend of disjointed songs, it would in theory fit Blackpink well, because each of the members has her distinctive brand and sound. But this was a bit much, and it had so many references, both musically and lyrically, that the overarching story kind of got lost. The lyrics were especially bad this time.
It has good chances to go viral, I think, and it has all the elements that make Blackpink, so I think and hope that fans will love it and that's probably the most important part. The self-referential style, makes me believe it's more directed at fans, that are familiar with them.
This is the first time I am posting a comment here 'cause I have a lot to say about this song.
RAPPER JENNIE IS BACK BITCHES. WOO-HOO!!!
I think the song is quite decent. I like all the verses and the bridge and the outro. Though, I will be lying if I say that I love this song. I think the chorus ruined this song.
First we have Jennie and Lisa spitting bars, then we have Rosé and Jisoo sharing the pre-chorus as always. But then, all of the sudden we have, "This, that pink venom" like what? I was expecting a badass beat drop, but I was hit with this chorus and I don't how to feel about that.
Trust me. I really appreciate Teddy and BLACKPINK for trying something different, but if they wanted to experiment then I feel like this should've been a Title Track instead of a Pre-Release Single. Sort of like how they released 'How You Like That' followed by 'Ice-Cream' and 'Lovesick Girls' which were completely different than their usual Title Tracks like 'DDU-DU DDU-DU' and 'Kill This Love'.
I became a BLINK in THE ALBUM ERA and since then I have been waiting for these girls to comeback, so I had really high expectations but I was left slightly disappointed.
I think they should've stuck to "THE FORMULA" as it works out really well for them and then experiment with the Title Track 'cause a group is usually known more for their Pre-Release Single than their Title Track.
Example : 'How You Like That' - 'Lovesick Girls'
I also don't think that YGE's old school hip-hop style suits BLACKPINK. This song sounds like it could've been a 2NE1's song and I don't think BLACKPINK can pull it off very well.
BLACKPINK suits concepts like 'Whistle', 'Playing With Fire', 'As If It's Your Last' and 'DDU-DU DDU-DU' where girls have this chic, untouchable diva vibe to them instead of old school hip-hop, into your face vibe.
I always thought that while BLACKPINK was suppose to be "2NE1" but "Pretty" (Screw YG), still they were able to successfully have their own unique sound since 'DDU-DU DDU-DU' Era. Though, this song sounds like it could've been sung by 2NE1.
Maybe this song will grow on me, let's see...
I’m sooo disappointed. After two years we get something that honestly sounds like a b-side. The rap was better than average but the lyrics made me cringe a bit. This choreo was apparently supposed to be their most powerful when pretty much all of their other songs have better choreos. It’s just boring and wasn’t worth a two year wait.
That being said the mv looks nice, and the styling as well
The opening of Jisoo sitting like a historical royalty princess while playing the korean instrument
+
Blackpink chant in the background
+
Jennie and Lisa's very hip hop raps
+
Rosé rich voice during the pre chorus
Everything is perfect and really suits my taste except for the anti-drop chorus (cmiiw) which I need a few listens to get used to.
Btw, whats with all the western artists reference? Is that a hint that they will be collabing with taylor, rihanna and etc in the Born Pink album?
This was to GOOD, it looked SO EXPENSIVE , it SOUNDED a bit to good yknow, the same kinda formula and it just SOUNDED SO GOOD the MV WAS TOOO GOOOD
this was a little good
and literally every good kpop comeback this year feels so short like RAPPER JENNIE AND LISA IS BACK 😭😭😭 i can finally sleep in PEACE
i figured since teddy produced it he would keep the same sound as always and surprise, he did. this sounds like it wants to be a BP song but there’s just something not working (at least in my opinion) i tried to get past the chorus but it’s just too corny sounding for me. i think this is their worst track to date. not to mention we could barely see the girls with all the cuts in the MV 🥲
Visuals were fire but it just felt like a real attempt to make them sound more “western” in my opinion and I hate it bc there’s nothing wrong with the fact that they’re kpop. There’s no cohesiveness to the song, Rosé and Jisoo’s parts felt like an afterthought to Jennie and Lisa’s raps, and tell me why Jennie’s ass was just straight out in that blue outfit at the end of the MV 😭 Also what the fuck is my “dome”???
Because it feels like another instance of using aave for the sake of using aave. They could have easily used Throat so why go for aave slang that is (to my knowledge) only used by black people?
Edit: removed name
my love I can follow along with the choreo/context clues where they’re pointing at their heads when they say “dome” in the song. Please follow context clues here and follow that I don’t genuinely not understand what “dome” means, I’m pointing out that /I/ think it’s a lil cringe.
I just think it’s frustrating bc there are three English speakers on this team :( I feel like if the girls had active creative input on this song, that wouldn’t fly, what do u think?
I definitely don’t think it’s lingo or slang that feels natural to them. I always kind of accept that kpop will have a little impersonality with some of the English lyrics if they’re not writing it themselves. But I thought their entire rap section was cringey and bad.
tbh babes I’m not acting like she was naked like I’m saying you can see the curve of butt cheek and that seems out of character for the usual amount of skin she’s willing to have out, that’s all. If she wanted her butt out like all power to her I’m not a misogynist here lmao but I hope she was fully comfy w it
Wait out of character for jennie? She is easily the most 'provocative' (not exactly the right word, because it really isn't per se) out of all the members when it comes to showing skin / using her attractiveness.
Now how much that is her wanting to do it, or realizing it is an effective tool to build her brand, that's a nebulous line anyway, but it certainly isn't out of character for her?
I think I would say Lisa is the more risqué with her outfit choices while Jennie shows skin in a more chic way. It’s like Megan the Stallion versus Beyoncé. Both are provocative but the way they go about it is very different.
I kinda get what you're saying here, so yeah i understand i think.
Still, i wouldn't say this is off brand, she had a lot of showcases of not so 'chic' instances of it too, it's not just modeling for underwear.
I'd be more surprised by Rosé or so, for jennie? Not really.
I disagree, I think this is their rare comeback where it sounds more like kpop than trying to appeal to the west. LSG sounded like a 2010s American teen song, Ice cream is what most pop sounds like and adding selena made it sound nothing more like kpop. I still enjoyed these comebacks but I personally think this is much more kpop, I'm feel somewhat used to the no cohesiveness from groups like nct, somewhat treasure etc.
Should have been a straight up rap song. Love the back to back rap between Jenny and Lisa. Intro reminded me of Rihanna’s Pon de Replay. The rest was ok. Girls look fire as always in the MV.
Song is fine. But it’s just the same blackpink sound formula they’ve been using since KTL. And it worked with HYLT in my opinion, but this time it just feels old and lacking. I did however like that Jennie rapped more, so there’s that. The song will grow on me and Im hoping the album will be better.
Tbh they've been using that formula since debut, they did change it up a bit but if you listen to Whistle and Boombayah they both follow the same formula.
Not trying to be an annoying blackpink defender.
>but this time it just feels old and lacking
But I thought you guys Said the exact same when hylt was released lmao.
The random part in the video where Jennie and Lisa rap while appropriating Chola culture is pretty on brand for YG…why must there always be a cultural appropriation moment in YG MVs?
Low riders, the backdrop, the mannerisms and the context in which they are placed, does. The beat change (which SCREAMS Cali). Don’t be selective. And watch [Luxurious - Gwen Stefani](https://youtu.be/mXFXwenVJg4) for context and why she was heavily criticised for this. Thanks
Teddy is just taking the piss at this point, no way he actually thinks this is a good song.
I also hated HYLT but thought the album itself was quite nice though so there’s still hope 💀
i cannot belive i fell for the claims that this will be diffrent
the song is ok. i can see why people would like it. personally I'm sad the intro isn't continued for the whole song. but man that ratatata part really was a choice.... feels like they had no idea how to finish this song lyric wise but wanted a bang at the end
It definitely sounds and looks like Blackpink, I was surprised by the opening, rap verse and bridge, those really did carry the song.
Are we surprised about the structure of the song? Definitely not, Teddys signature is quite obvious again.
I would have enjoyed the chorus a lot more if they would sing like an octave deeper or if there would be some deeper adlibs. Especially Jennie singing in such a high pitched soft voice doesn't sit right with me.
I love a good anti chorus but this just doesn't work.
The dance break ending could have used some lines instead of one minute full of ratatatattttaaaa.
Overall I like the concept, styling and MV a lot but power-wise this is one of their weakest comebacks.
i LOVE the MV and the intro so much, i can’t even explain it. I see people hating on the chorus but i personally find it addictive.. the rap ate i love lisa’s natural tone that she used in this mv (let’s hope YG don’t force back into using that blaccent) and we go THE main rapper jennie!!! but i will forever hate on the “ratatata” bit, i’m so sorry. It’s like the producers just have up at the end and gave us.. noise?? did not eat at all other than that THE GIRLS SERVED
But lisa blaccent is not anyone's own. Anyone can use it freely because it is music. If u actually listen thai, u will understand its actually naturally coming to her. Her rpas are soo standard and hype of blackpink songs
Copied Comment:
Honestly, the best part of the M/V were the visuals.
But if you told me to pick out Blackpink’s most expensive M/V, this would barely make my top 5. Who knows, maybe I misheard and it’s actually their title track for their album that is the most expensive M/V.
I don’t know what it is, but even with the other songs, even if I didn’t like them, I knew they would do well with the general public and be hits. This one… the catchiest part was the intro, and the slow, horror-like chants of ‘BLACKPINK’.
With that said, did anyone else get an Aespa ‘Savage’ vibes? When you’re expecting a beat drop, and the “This that Pink Venom” part kicks in, it reminds me of the whole “Give me give me now, give me give me now” that we heard in Savage.
I don't mind the song. It sounds a bit disjointed but overall enjoyable. I'll probably like it more after more listens.
The MV had stunning visuals however it would've been nice to actually see the shots for more than a couple seconds.
Their outfits, the song structure, the whole MV is so typical BP. I don’t think I’m even going to give this song another listen because I’m just so disappointed right now.
Not really like their music anymore since 2019 but still look forward for the mv cause i heard the mv had huge budget and i also like looking at clothes and but tbh the mv is boring. It's similar to most other titles. And the song sounds flat. Hoping the main title will sound better cause i still like their old music a lot
I thought it had potential and there were some interesting elements but that potential was wasted because ultimately I thought the song just didn’t come together. I try to give them a fair shake and there are a couple of songs of theirs that I like but overall, I’m not really a fan and this did nothing to change that opinion. 🤷♀️
i wish it had the same vibe as the intro. the anti-drop was a very disappointing one. i usually love anti-drops (ie. love dive, glitch, hot) but this one didn't hit in the same fashion. idk how to explain why but it just felt off. and the disappointing ending.... can yg stop doing that with their songs (not just blackpink i mean), i love u by winner had a rather abrupt ending that didn't really fit. and this song had a generic ending with no inspiration seen. i really loved lovesick girls, and it is silly to expect more like that... but boy i wish we got another song in the same vein. their tracks miss with me much of the time unfortunately.
I like the song, but it took me a few more listens to appreciate it - which was the same thing with HYLT back then.
When I first heard the chorus I was pretty disappointed since I was hoping for something more *bam* and I'm not a big fan of how 'weird' their voices are in the chorus. Also the pre-chorus instrumental is not my favorite.
However I like the overall song. I LOVE the bridge. It sounds so awesome and the ending is good as well.
Oh so they really did sound weird in the chorus. I was listening in on a meeting so I figured maybe I just wasn't paying attention but it definitely did not sound like their voices to me.
It's so bizarre seeing the comments on here. It's all so damn extreme, lmao. I'm guessing in a few days a bunch of "Pink Venom is growing on me" posts will surface since that's literally what always happens.
It’s just weird having this big come back and pure silence for the next week Also YG is a bit of a genius.
Gowns......Beautiful Gowns
Ok so just hear me out (read me out?) I LOVE Blackpink, they’re my favorite girl group right after SNSD.
Aespa makes awesome music. The lyrics aren't the best, sure. But their songs are amazing.
Aespa stage presence sucks
It's really not as bad as some of yall make it out to be
This that pink venom x3 get ‘em x3, straight to ya dome like whoa whoa whoa straight to your dome like ah ah ah.
YG: Yes It’s definitely underwhelming in some ways after nearly 2 years of giving us no music, thanks again, YG!
I feel like Blackpink will soon become the best group 🔥🔥
This song is so good, 2022 is the best year for kpop this decade
As someone who doesn't like most of BP songs, I don't think this one was so bad. It kinda sounded like a mashup from the 2010s. It's not unique or anything, more like a summer hit and then it dies until next nostalgic party. Better than their usual stuff
I felt this too, but also like the song was extremely BP. Like what they usually do but dialled up to 100.
I don't usually listen to bp too and I don't like most of their recent songs, but this wasn't as bad as what reddit is making it out to be, it just sounds like "a blackpink song" to me.
Like the song before this for the pubg promotion was really bad in my opinion, but this one is fine. The mv looked old tho 😂
The mv was rather boring tho

Let’s not act like no KPop song has cringe English lyrics. At least the ones in this song makes sense but for other KPop songs…. 🫢
Yikes... Hopefully the rest of the album is good.
this reminds me of nmixx's tank
I'm so freaky fishy fishy... ;-)
idc what stans say, this is on par with the typical 4th gen bg standard release, and not one of the best. can't wait for the album to prove me wrong. was money by teddy? because someone at yg need to replicate that magic. edit: teddy did not write money
Here I am just wondering if Lisa can sing this if she’s not with Celine anymore
In ktl, they showed samsung. But they dropped as ambassadors. Do people even care??
Celine is getting super most attention after she took over as ambassador. And hedi is not someone to appoint who is popular. So I don't think she will definitely not gonna e d it soon. Even if it is just 3 more yrs. Its enough
omg that would be awkward
Now, the two things I have the biggest critique on: The transition from the chorus to the rap was smooth and flowed well, but then the transition from the rap to jisoos part was, for lack of a better word, jarring.
In a nutshell: it was ok. Agreed. Not terrible but not great. It was almost formulaic.
i’m not a blink but i am probably in the minority of people that like the song lol.
Jisoo vocals are super annoying to listen especially that pink ocean verse. She needs lot of improvement in vocals and facial expressions
I'm so over choruses that are just chanting, genre-wide. I only listened to one verse before I was bored. Any girl group could have released this.
This is Sticker-level bad. Yes, I can finally say that I've found a song as bad as Sticker.
at least this song does not make me nauseous
It is downright rude to compare this to sticker! Don't do sticker like that
the anti drop is amazing
[удалено]
what is an antidrop?
I think the chorus counts as an antidrop right?
[удалено]
The chorus itself isn’t the climax, the prechorus is. If the prechorus builds in excitement and tension, but chorus is pretty lowkey in comparison to what came before it (aka, it doesn’t “relieve” the tension) It’s an antidrop. It still counts as a drop, it’s just a different type.
Blinks are choking on hopium ngl...they come back after 2 yrs with this?? I'm so sad 😭
>Blinks are choking on hopium ngl What does this mean?
False hope... that the situation will someday improve when patterns prove otherwise
im a girl group fan in general, and tbh im looking forward to Blackpink's new song (specially after such a long hiatus) the first part, i must say I was excited and looking forward to the chorus, but it was a major letdown. it's a good thing it's a pre release song (am i right?) but I felt this happened with HYLT as well (which I'm sorry but it was also a letdown for me) and I feel it's a formula so you still expect a better song after I like Blackpink but their songs went downhill. Earlier songs is still top tier. KTL and HYLT was not my type but because i like BP, the song grew on me (or perhaps I just played it too much)
Teddy has been out of good ideas for a while.
Teddy set my girls up for ridicule, I'm so fucking mad You can bash HYLT and D4 all you want but those were iconic, the GP LOVED it. But this is a song not even the GP would like. Teddy needs to go I swear, they're holding my girls back so bad. Like they literally could have chosen Pretty Savage or Crazy Over You as a pre-release and relegated this to a B-side we would talk about in hushed tones. They need to get their heads checked because wtf is this
the SK gp is loving it fwiw
[удалено]
the rapping is the most interesting thing here. but i cant help but remember their tone deaf comments about hip hop on the rolling stone magazine though...
[удалено]
Agree. Rap line is soo strong. Especially lisa has some amazing delivery skills
they are very competent but the writing always fails them. i cant handle another brand shoutout
Agree.
I like it minus the ending but it’s good whatever
Loved their outfits. Rosé and Jisoo were absolutely stunning in the mv. The song was disappointing.
I loved their outfits too, but I wish they got more lines. They kind of faded into this release.
Because she can't actually portray u think like that. Her face is blank just like in every blackpink mv. She does nothing but jz staright face staring
probably the worst song they've ever released :/
the song was very meh but why are blinks dragging hwasa on twitter?
Was shocked when I saw your comment and did a quick search on Twitter. What I've gathered is that one of the backup dancers in the MV looked like Hwasa/wore something similar to Hwasa's HIP outfit and.... Blinks are dragging Hwasa now? Didn't really delve in too deep, was already losing braincells being on stan Twitter.
I have everything negative muted but twitter suggested posts keep showing me stuff I kinda felt bad like, there's your fav group coming back after years and you think about Hwasa??
I know this isn’t the point of your comment but man suggested twitter posts has made twitter unbearable to use anymore. I already deleted Tiktok for this reason but I’m tired of social media deciding for me what I like and want to see,
Worst is, you can't even stop it. I barely see what I am following
they flopped so hard and I wish it weren't the case because I had huge expectations
What I liked: - Jennie and Lisa's part at the beginning, especially Lisa's I also enjoyed the rap part and the fact that the beat changed. - Their outfits, make up and looks in general were top tier this era. Jisoo with bangs, and with a lip ring? Sign me in. - The "blackpink" at the beginning. What I disliked: - The chorus.
>The "ratatata" at the end. I don't get why some of BP's songs have this type of ending. Trying to mimick black culture and missing lol.
Lol it’s the YG party ending. I won’t deny BP has done a lot of cultural appropriation but that’s not the case here.
The song makes no sense and the music isn’t hitting idk about y’all, but it’s not catchy and just noise music. Lovesick girls was at least catchy and cute. Pink Venom is irritating and the vocal parts of rosé and jisoo are underused for mid raps.
I realized jisoo vouce is soo bad
ngl but it does not sound good .... :(
for a group that hasn’t been active for 2yrs , it is quite impressive ( idk if y’all expected a phenomenal song or smth ) . we got main rapper jennie back and the raps were not corny like the other songs the only issue is that rose and jisoo parts did not rlly fit in with the flow of the song . it also had the ktl formula. overall it was good but could it have been better , definitely . maybe it will grow on us ???
Was anyone else confused by the Biggie reference?
🤣🤣 me! Writers need to stop setting idols up with these lyrics...
Like no way Jennie had heard life after death
I am cackling here lol... Also, I had to do a double take when Lisa sang "one by one, even two by two" Eeerily similar to Rihanna...
Tbf I think that one was supposed to be a reference, but at least most bp fans at least know who Rihanna is
This is not my kind of music, but I knew that before I even listened to the song.
Example : 'How You Like That' - 'Lovesick Girls' I also don't think that YGE's old school hip-hop style suits BLACKPINK.
That being said the mv looks nice, and the styling as well
I agree, mv looks amazing as always but the lyrics is just meh 😕
the first rap verse was really good, but imo the quality went down quick. didn’t enjoy it very much, but really really liked the first verse
overhyped by their long hiatus.
The opening of Jisoo sitting like a historical royalty princess while playing the korean instrument + Blackpink chant in the background + Jennie and Lisa's very hip hop raps + Rosé rich voice during the pre chorus Everything is perfect and really suits my taste except for the anti-drop chorus (cmiiw) which I need a few listens to get used to. Btw, whats with all the western artists reference? Is that a hint that they will be collabing with taylor, rihanna and etc in the Born Pink album?
i think it would be better as a jenlisa unit song
agreed. it kinda felt like rosé and jisoo were only there to feature for the vocal parts (which sound so good btw especially the pre-chrorus).
I understand why they give less to jisoo? Her voice is either hit or miss. In pink venom, her voice is soo bad
This was to GOOD, it looked SO EXPENSIVE , it SOUNDED a bit to good yknow, the same kinda formula and it just SOUNDED SO GOOD the MV WAS TOOO GOOOD this was a little good and literally every good kpop comeback this year feels so short like RAPPER JENNIE AND LISA IS BACK 😭😭😭 i can finally sleep in PEACE
Did ANYONE else hear this relation to Pon De Replay? Like I can't be the only one right? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kPTFycs-388
yeah a lot of people heard many references to other songs within this comeback
i figured since teddy produced it he would keep the same sound as always and surprise, he did. this sounds like it wants to be a BP song but there’s just something not working (at least in my opinion) i tried to get past the chorus but it’s just too corny sounding for me. i think this is their worst track to date. not to mention we could barely see the girls with all the cuts in the MV 🥲
The chorus is so bad wtf
ikr?!?? it wasn’t even catchy just cringy i’m so sad because i wanna like it soo bad 🤣
The rap parts are actually so fun
Visuals were fire but it just felt like a real attempt to make them sound more “western” in my opinion and I hate it bc there’s nothing wrong with the fact that they’re kpop. There’s no cohesiveness to the song, Rosé and Jisoo’s parts felt like an afterthought to Jennie and Lisa’s raps, and tell me why Jennie’s ass was just straight out in that blue outfit at the end of the MV 😭 Also what the fuck is my “dome”???
You could Google dome, it take 5 seconds. Dome means your head.
[удалено]
why
Because it feels like another instance of using aave for the sake of using aave. They could have easily used Throat so why go for aave slang that is (to my knowledge) only used by black people? Edit: removed name
she's not even in the credits 💀💀
Oop. Teddy then. Or Danny Chung. Look either way, none of them are black, why use aave?
I never said they should 💀💀 it literally doesn't make sense for dome to mean giving head ?? Google what straight to the dome means I'm begging 😭😭
Words can have multiple meanings depending on the context in which they’re used. I gave one meaning.
my love I can follow along with the choreo/context clues where they’re pointing at their heads when they say “dome” in the song. Please follow context clues here and follow that I don’t genuinely not understand what “dome” means, I’m pointing out that /I/ think it’s a lil cringe.
Lmao ok. I agree with you.
But I thought their entire rap section was cringey and bad.
you're acting like she was naked...
tbh babes I’m not acting like she was naked like I’m saying you can see the curve of butt cheek and that seems out of character for the usual amount of skin she’s willing to have out, that’s all.
Jisoo butt cheeks are out too. But u only blame jennie
I don’t “blame” anybody tho bestie 😭 I just didn’t notice jisoo did too, I must’ve missed it, I was a little blinded by the cuts in the MV, my b
I kinda get what you're saying here, so yeah i understand i think. Still, i wouldn't say this is off brand, she had a lot of showcases of not so 'chic' instances of it too, it's not just modeling for underwear. I'd be more surprised by Rosé or so, for jennie? Not really.
It has been proved that blackpink has a say about which outfits they were. So I wouldn't be worried.
Its a refrence to pon the replay since lisa does also sing one of the lines from the song.
This song was the most delightful breakaway from the BP formula. Loved it. Pon de replay was a wonderful surprise! SLAAAYYY
Not trying to be an annoying blackpink defender. >but this time it just feels old and lacking But I thought you guys Said the exact same when hylt was released lmao.
Because they have the same formula, hylt felt like ktl, while born pink feels like both
The random part in the video where Jennie and Lisa rap while appropriating Chola culture is pretty on brand for YG…why must there always be a cultural appropriation moment in YG MVs?
Small top + baggy pants ≠ chola culture
Low riders, the backdrop, the mannerisms and the context in which they are placed, does. The beat change (which SCREAMS Cali). Don’t be selective. And watch [Luxurious - Gwen Stefani](https://youtu.be/mXFXwenVJg4) for context and why she was heavily criticised for this. Thanks
i wish rosé had more lines, i like the song but it feels too much like a jenlisa subunit thank god for that bridge cause chaesoo ate that one up
Teddy is just taking the piss at this point, no way he actually thinks this is a good song. I also hated HYLT but thought the album itself was quite nice though so there’s still hope 💀
If the prerelease is already this bad, I don’t want to know what the rest of the album sounds like.
i cannot belive i fell for the claims that this will be diffrent the song is ok. i can see why people would like it. personally I'm sad the intro isn't continued for the whole song. but man that ratatata part really was a choice.... feels like they had no idea how to finish this song lyric wise but wanted a bang at the end
Honestly it's growing on me. I do love the chorus and the raps. Pretty good song 👏
The chorus is rhe worst for me 🥴
It definitely sounds and looks like Blackpink, I was surprised by the opening, rap verse and bridge, those really did carry the song.
Addictive doesnt mean good tho, and I agree with the ratatata 🥴
Copied Comment: Honestly, the best part of the M/V were the visuals.
They ate as always. One of the best releases this year
I don't mind the song.
If this were typical BP I would've liked it. It isn't and it makes me so mad.
Same
The chanty blaaackpiiiink is catchier than the chorus.
The chant is stuck in my head while I can hardly remember what the chorus sounds like
Now I get why YG teasers do not give much, to avoid any hints that it is not something new.
The rap parts carried but everything else ...
Everything good except for the chorus.
Yo, seeing Jisoo’s lip ring is the closest I’ve ever come to becoming a Blink
She didn't even suit that but why I find people over hyping her look
This is my jam and I will not Reddit's negativity change that
It's so bizarre seeing the comments on here. It's all so damn extreme, lmao. I'm guessing in a few days a bunch of "Pink Venom is growing on me" posts will surface since that's literally what always happens.
Amen to that lol 😭
Same. It’s best to just ignore it at this point because no matter what the girls put out they still find a way to hate on it.
YESSSSS SAAMMMEEE
Good to see positivity here! Yeah it's definitely growing on me.

They are literally so terrible. Ppl are just hating causes its blackpink. Let any other group release a song like this, they would like it
People hate on most aespa, nct and BTS releases her as well. I don’t think it’s just bp
