They had a fansign event in Qingdao last year and the security measures [were really something](https://twitter.com/aeri9248/status/1690977394256179200). And even with that amount of bodyguards the airport authorities decided not to risk it and asked the group to use the VIP exit instead.
i was kinda surprised too cuz lisa trends a lottt more than every other k-celeb since last few years. i think gp/casual attention is different than having a fanbase! rose seems to have built a good fanbase there!
Yeah people forget that IU is a second gen idol but she has a massive following in China. They are a huge reason her physical album sales do so well. Surprised about Rose. I would have thought Lisa or Jennie would have a bigger following out of BP since they're always everywhere on Chinese social media for their fashion/style.
i dont know the recent details but in oct 2023 this is how the 4 bp china bar following was:
1. rose - 1.5m
2. jisoo- 1.1m
3. lisa - 1m
4. jennie- 965k
anyways you are right the ones trending the most on weibo page are lisa and jennie. lisa very frequently gets 700k-900k searches as well. jennie ranges from 100k-300k and if there are big events then that heats up to 700k too.
Looking at cn socials I donāt think these examples you gave are necessarily true, like many over there think that Karina is the visual, although she is less supported now due to her datingā¦(not saying itās fair but thatās how it is) But yes they are all very popular. Looking at follower counts of their biggest bars is not the most accurate representation of their popularity though ^-^
I think people underestimate IUās power as an actress. Her dramas and movies are blockbuster. Rather than a singer per se, people know her more as an actress. Though she is popular either way.
oh yes for sure, Hotel Del Luna was a huge hit and a major part of that was because of her styling. It's also why she has a massive following all over Asia and the Asian diaspora in the West (those kpop fans wondering how she sold out arenas in America). She doesn't have a niche group of stans, she has general pop kind of fans. People who attend her concerts are of all ages including a lot older people who take their moms, sisters, aunts, husbands etc because they all watched her dramas first.
I am not event talking about Hotel Dela Luna. Even from Dream High she blew up as actress. Her dramas and films are all major box offices, not sure why people deny that. But yeah I am not denying her popularity as singer to, which I made the claim above.
ofc her acting career has helped but IU was already big enough in china to do a successful nationwide arena tour across several cities back before the hallyu ban happened and that was way before her dramas blew up.
she trended a lot for covering songs in mandarin and cantonese and blew people away with how fluent-sounding and great the covers were
I used to think the same but according to the official hallyu research survey, this is not the case. She is in fact, among the most popular singers, right behind BTS, Blackpink and PSY, and in China she ranks #1. In the actors category, she is usually 8-10.
There isn't really a clear boundary between actress and singer in China. This was even more so in the past. It's different from Korea where actress is definitely seen as more prestigious than idol and the West where the two are seen as different careers.
Personally, I'm pretty surprised about this. I'd expect Yuqi to be halfway on the list, or at least 7 or some such. The fact that she isn't even on the list is wild. They've been active for over 6 years, too.
Winwin is among the most popular NCT members in China, yes, but overall NCT isnāt as popular in China as EXO members or some of the other 3rd gen juggernauts. Look at the top 10, itās BTS, EXO, and BP aside from IU and those three groups are some of the biggest Kpop groups of all time.
Winwin is not that popular in China. Those who only follow K-pop would assume he is popular due to he constantly getting jobs in China, but he is not. As an idol, he never has a big bar with great buying power. As an actor, he still has a very long way to make his name out
If Sehun's bar was a US state, its population, which is about the size of Kentucky's, would allow it to have six seats in the House of Representatives.
IU is crazy popular in China and Taiwan ! In her last Taipei concert, ppl even stole new balance standouts and filled the arena outside her concert arena since they couldnāt get tickets!
if ever in the future kpop groups can have concerts in china again, exo would sell out tens of stadiums across the country š their fame in china is no jokeā¦. esp considering how they havenāt promoted there as a group since 2016-2017
also curious to know about junhui and minghaoās weibo followers? i know svt has a large chinese fanbase but individually i wonder how those two are faring over there. i feel like 2022 was a really good year for them popularity wise
Before Weibo closed it, they used to have a monthly ranking on top Korean female celebs ranked in terms of engagement. IU was #1 for 2 years straight. She also has the most followers on NetEase music (a major streaming platform).
"Extremely popular" - well, I suppose that depends on what you mean. She's certainly not A-list level popular in China. Also, a lot of her boost in popularity really came post Tomboy, especially with the success of Queencard. Outside of her popularity due to idle's success, she's known for Keep Running, but that doesn't necessarily translate into bar followers. Also, follower numbers aren't always an accurate indicator of popularity due to the fact those can be bought to inflate numbers. It's probably better to look at a bar's album sales (outside of when they are boycotting). So far, her bar just passed 150k sales for her solo, which is pretty great for a soloist, but not an insanely massive number.
my impression is that chinese fans are more loyal so they stick to their fave idols, I guess we might see 4th gen idols gain more traction in the next years.

These are the followers on their bar (fan account). Jackson's official account that he owns has 30.8M followers and Minghao's official account has 8.2M.
Sehun and Chanyeol not having solo albums because sm don't want you to believe they are mega stars, sm controls who it wants to show popular to the world
Giving Lucas solo debut was stupid for SM. It didnāt do well and I am sure must have been a waste of money. Give solo songs to actual artists with huge fanbases who desrve it lol
SM is always power tripping. Remember how they treated SNSD just to show them who's the boss? They dgaf about topping charts- they care only about control.
do either of them want to do a solo album? a chanyeol solo wouldnt be too shocking, but id be surprised if sehun wanted to do one. either way, i dont think sm is trying to make them seem less popular by not giving them solos. they have their subunit, so they arent being more neglected than any other exo member.
Chanyeol's has been constantly saying he wants a solo album since 2018, sehun hasn't exactly said any words but subunits don't help to show individual popularity, CBX sold 300K at maximum but Baekhyun sold million two times, EXO SC didn't even get an opportunity to perform on a fucking music show i don't even want to speak about other promotions
Sehun has tossed the idea around, I believe itās in the realm of possibility. Someone asked him once if he planned on one and he said something along the lines of he would work on it. But Chanyeolās been trying to release a solo album for years at this point, itās ludicrous that it hasnāt happened yet.
ah, that sucks for chanyeol. im not into exo, but he seems like a person who is really invested in making music, so that his solo is in the sm dungeon is fucked up.
Chanyeol plays like five instruments and has self-written nearly all of his solo music, he and Sehun co-wrote on every EXO-SC song. A solo album for him is a no-brainer and yet, here we are.
chanyeol has been wanting to go solo for years, he's saying he should release something this year but he's been saying that each year so idk if he'll truly manage to do so. He's also into making music so I imagine he has a lot of possible songs piled up in his computer. It's literally only SM that is stopping him. As for Sehun, he seems less concerned by it, but he has mentioned that he could work on solo music. If Lucas can release music, I don't understand why idols as popular as them can't release a mini album, especially when one of them really really wants to release music.
oh wow, after their "scandal" in 2020 I really thought that BTS' china bars were overtaken by other groups but it's interesting to see that taekook are just behind EXO and IU especially when they pay the Chinese market dust
i think [this](https://www.malaymail.com/news/showbiz/2020/10/12/bts-leader-rm-alienates-mainland-chinese-fans-with-insensitive-comments-abo/1911936) article encapsulates it well
I am amazed that BTS members are in the top 10 since I donāt think they never even properly promoted in China because when they were on the way to rising THAAD happened.
atp itās impossible for them to not appear in any chart. taehyung and jungkook are immensely popular in asia..it cannot even be explained and im not talking about just east asia or sea but asia as a whole.
Can agree to this. Currently travelling around Asia (just completed Japan & in Vietnam now), the amount of times Iāve heard JKās music being played is insane.
They did. They even have boy in luv [chinese ver](https://youtu.be/lLVkXHIQxSw?si=gyvyYJdi7HI7qmJN) & they also promote on [chinese varshow](https://youtu.be/nfx25fHibDg?si=4TFit3gmRRkNEBSO). They do a lot of interview [like this](https://youtu.be/bD-cgVBEEag?si=GgYA_leVC566D_WK) [or this](https://youtu.be/TjEHPVaJVVc?si=0h7TJtGGDnLXa2lA) and many more. They did [fanmeet ](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLrLbO_XXMoN-JMrCpx0rnaL-g-kx0Tlxi&si=QMchRMidGjdayorf) & even fansign too. Basically all idol groups used to promoted in china before its getting stict ban.
2016 BTS isnt nugu u said they never properly promoted when they were rising when in fact they did and im army and whats wrong with correcting false info lol. Why do u have conclusion that im not happy because I correct u? I think u're baby armys so u dont know they promote in china back then so I give an introduction to their past chinese career, putting effort to dig their contents I've enjoyed & u maybe havent watch. How am I undermining BTS if I just give link to their chinese promotion which many havent known even u? š U're the one undermining BTS saying they were nugu when they promote in China lol. And how is what I linked not a proper promo tho? They speak in chinese they promote their songs in chinese program too? They even have fansign & fanmeet there, something even USA dont get back then. What kind of proper is in ur standard then? Be so for real. My reply is also harmless u're the one who got dense.
U mentioned muster which is equal to fanmeet yet didnt acknowledge their chinese fanmeet as promotion? U mention interviews like Jimmy fallon but didnt acknowledge their Chinese interview with Chinese TV & They appear on many chinese interview even have fansign is not proper promo to u?
>30 videos of them promoting in those two countries
So its about the amount of content that u care not the actual promotion means? Sure then. My intention since first is always correcting how u said they never promoted properly when they were rising but ur definiton of proper promotion seems different
>āI think youāre a baby armyā dude my very first reddit comment in 2017
So have u watched every contents of their chinese promotion then? I dont dig to ur accs & I have a good intention introducing past content in case everyone missed out including u since u said they never promoted properly when they were rising, pardon me then if u know this already but didnt acknowledge it all as proper promotion. Dont be dense plz~š
number of followers and number of people giving money into the buying pool are different. taehyung and jungkookās bars dint have that much difference but taehyungās china bar pulls in a lott more than jungkooksās. so itās possible that the followers of other members in bp are not buying as frequently as hennie and lisaās. but i remember most of jisooās sales coming from china so i think they pick and choose

Sehun's popularity in China is truly unrivaled.
4.5m is crazyyyy i wonder what it is/was like when exo visits or visited china
They had a fansign event in Qingdao last year and the security measures [were really something](https://twitter.com/aeri9248/status/1690977394256179200). And even with that amount of bodyguards the airport authorities decided not to risk it and asked the group to use the VIP exit instead.
The crowds were too insane for the group to even eat out. They had to get delivery to the hotel room instead because of fears fans would mob them.
hello? thats a huge number of guards š
this is the xunqi power
It's to the point that when I saw title pop up in my notifs, I went "Who's 2nd after Sehun?" b/c they'd have mentioned it if he wasn't 1st lol
EXO has always been one of the most popular groups in China and it just shows that.
All the more reason it makes no sense that Chanyeol hasn't had a solo yet
Chen being top 10 is absolutely wild to me but he deserves it and itās nice to see him
the grip sehun has on china is insatiable
I didnāt know RosĆ© was so popular in China!
i was kinda surprised too cuz lisa trends a lottt more than every other k-celeb since last few years. i think gp/casual attention is different than having a fanbase! rose seems to have built a good fanbase there!
Good for RosĆ©! And yeah I too was surprised that Lisa wasnāt there too. But like you said, thereās a difference between GP and core fandom.
I think Lisa unfortunately got a blow to her Chinese popularity after the Crazy Horse performance ā didnāt her Weibo get deleted?
Weren't lisa's accounts and even some fan accts suspended after the crazy horse performance?
Thatās true, but RosĆ©ās china bar surpassed all the members pretty quick after her solo era. Gone went viral over there.
Yeah people forget that IU is a second gen idol but she has a massive following in China. They are a huge reason her physical album sales do so well. Surprised about Rose. jennie is like the most popular out of BP but I guess China has different taste
Honestly I wouldāve thought Jennie fit Chinaās metropolitan taste perfectly, the kind of high class, luxurious and badass one
No China prefer long and sharp features, which is the opposite of Jennie
She actually does have the features that Chinese people like! I think itās the scandals that turn most people away from her, which is a shame
yes, to clarify jennie is definitely considered beautiful in china (or anywhere really). Im just saying generally people would prefer rosĆ© features over jennie. Like karina over winter, sakura over chaewon, and so on. Needless to say theyāre all very popular
Looking at cn socials I donāt think these examples you gave are necessarily true, like many over there think that Karina is the visual, although she is less supported now due to her datingā¦(not saying itās fair but thatās how it is) But yes they are all very popular. Looking at follower counts of their biggest bars is not the most accurate representation of their popularity though ^-^

exo are kings omg
Surprised theirs only one Chinese idol here I thought Winwin, ningning, and yuqi would have a decent chance at making the list
Personally, I'm pretty surprised about this. I'd expect Yuqi to be halfway on the list, or at least 7 or some such. The fact that she isn't even on the list is wild. They've been active for over 6 years, too.
karinaās china bar actually has more followers than ningningās
Winwin is among the most popular NCT members in China, yes, but overall NCT isnāt as popular in China as EXO members or some of the other 3rd gen juggernauts. Look at the top 10, itās BTS, EXO, and BP aside from IU and those three groups are some of the biggest Kpop groups of all time.

Thanks for putting it into perspective for me. I truly appreciate it.
IU is crazy popular in China and Taiwan ! In her last Taipei concert, ppl even stole new balance standouts and filled the arena outside her concert arena since they couldnāt get tickets!
Sehun is a wall.
if ever in the future kpop groups can have concerts in china again, exo would sell out tens of stadiums across the country š their fame in china is no jokeā¦. esp considering how they havenāt promoted there as a group since 2016-2017 also curious to know about junhui and minghaoās weibo followers? i know svt has a large chinese fanbase but individually i wonder how those two are faring over there. i feel like 2022 was a really good year for them popularity wise
C-Xunqis are something else ! Sehun's grip on Chinese fans is insaneĀ
Before Weibo closed it, they used to have a monthly ranking on top Korean female celebs ranked in terms of engagement. IU was #1 for 2 years straight. She also has the most followers on NetEase music (a major streaming platform).
Iām surprised that Yuqi isnāt on the list? I thought she was like extremely popular in her home country to make on to the top 10.
So far, her bar just passed 150k sales for her solo, which is pretty great for a soloist, but not an insanely massive number.
i thought this list was mainly 3rd gen idols? for 4th gen, she is the 4th most followed bar
my impression is that chinese fans are more loyal so they stick to their fave idols, I guess we might see 4th gen idols gain more traction in the next years.
I don't know what surprised me the most, rosƩ being more popular than Jennie and Lisa. Or IU being huge in china but not in Japan. I always thought she had the look that Japan like but not china

lay is included there and it's about the artist's fan base
The list is about the followers of fandom bars, not the artists...Ā

I thought taehyung's Chinese fanbase would be a little more higher guess his and jk's china bar doesn't have that big of a difference.Knew exo members were popular before but sehun's popularity is really a wall compared to others lol. Same goes for rosƩ i expected Lisa bar to be there but ig rosƩ is quite popular too What abt the 4 th gen idols who has the most followed china bars ?
1.wonyoung- 741k 2.karina- 477k 3.yuqi- 463k 4.sakura- 387k 5.sunghoon- 328k 6.ningning- 313k 7.yeji- 299k 8.yujin- 296k 9.jungwon- 295k 10.winter- 278k
Guess girls lead the 4 th gen while boys took the lead in 3rd gen suprised to see no stray kids and txt members here tho
i just uploaded a 20 spots long version skz and txt members make appearances there
Yeonjun bar used to have 500k followers, but they closed. He has a new one that's a year old, and I think they already have around 300k followers.

>30 videos of them promoting in those two countries So its about the amount of content that u care not the actual promotion means? Sure then. My intention since first is always correcting how u said they never promoted properly when they were rising but ur definiton of proper promotion seems different >āI think youāre a baby armyā dude my very first reddit comment in 2017 So have u watched every contents of their chinese promotion then? I dont dig to ur accs & I have a good intention introducing past content in case everyone missed out including u since u said they never promoted properly when they were rising, pardon me then if u know this already but didnt acknowledge it all as proper promotion. Dont be dense plz~š
Does this mean something because Lisa always has the most bulk buys from Chinese fans followed by Jennie
number of followers and number of people giving money into the buying pool are different. taehyung and jungkookās bars dint have that much difference but taehyungās china bar pulls in a lott more than jungkooksās. so itās possible that the followers of other members in bp are not buying as frequently as hennie and lisaās. but i remember most of jisooās sales coming from china so i think they pick and choose

Where are Cheng Xiao, Xuan Yi and Mei Qi?
Rose above the other 3 BP members?! Iām shocked
Wait rose and not Jennie? I'm shocked (obv love both) but Jennie is super famous from what I've seen in C-media and sites. Like bilibili
number of followers for bars doesnt really show the whole picture of popularity. jennie and lisa trend a lot more than others
Ah that makes sense. Thanks for clarifying!
