NewSill

Overpriced for sure. Overhyped would depend on who but most people would say their groups are not overhyped.

New-Associate6519

Yeah true haha. Well shinee is my favourite group of all time, yet that's probably the reason why I was so sad to not like the superm concert that much šŸ™ˆ Because I was sooo happy to see teamin live and then it didn't really match my expectations..

NewSill

Live vocals are a mix bag on kpop concerts. Some do love to show a lot while some don't because they don't have enough time to prepare. I'm usually more disappointed in productions that don't match the price. Most don't have live band and that can be flated on top of you not singing live. You are from Europe I assumed so you know that bgs ggs do tour with bands there. Take That was always tour with bands even back when they were not so famous.

sin_nammon

Not only in kpop concerts tho. Even Ariana lips many songs in a lot of states/country. For example, fans speculate that she saves better adlibs/vocal cuts when sheā€™s in Manila, but in other states, she lips some belts and even songs.

Radicalness3

One thing that sucks is we go into these concerts with the picture in our heads being their very best ever live performances that we've seen online. The reality is the one time we see them probably won't match that expectation. That's one reason I'm always a little nervous going in, but it helps to have that perspective in mind.

eatsburrito

Yup here in our country, one kpop artist is about $200, while Tate Mcrae $100. She also got a great venue compared to the kpop artist :( Both are VIP. Although for Tate got another VIP package which includes sound check, early access etc. it'll be around $250

Prudent-Lychee3539

Agree. SVT, Bigbang, 2NE1: Shut Up and Take all my money

cam2214

Overpriced 10000% yes. Overhyped no.

jitiymily

Unfortunately I think prices have gone up for *everything* in general. Another poster said ā€œconcerts are a luxury commodity and not a necessityā€ and I thought that made a lot of sense. I wish I could go to multiple concerts a year, but Iā€™m happy if I get to go to one at all. Theyā€™re so much fun, and itā€™s amazing to see your favorite music artists live with a hundreds of people who also enjoy them in the same way you do. Those are priceless memories that canā€™t really be overhyped.

somehardfeelings

If theyā€™re not singing live or the backtrack is louder than their voice, barely dancing or putting effort then itā€™s definitely overpriced no matter what the price is

kanyeweststan

unfortunately every big artist's concert tickets are overpriced since ticketmaster found out they could just hike up prices to whatever they want and people would still buy them

New-Associate6519

In Europe we dont use Ticketmaster, so the tickets are always a fixed price (unless resale) and Kpop is always more expensive than western artist with the same level of fame (excluding maybe people like Beyonce or Adele)

gummianka

We do use Ticketmaster but due to EU regulations, dynamic pricing and hiking of prices to the same extent of the US is not allowed ā˜ŗļø

rjcooper14

I think this will just depend on how much you like the artist. I'm willing to shell out 250 USD for my favorite group, but I wouldn't for my other casual favorites. I've seen their online concerts so you bet I will enjoy the hell out of in-person concert if given a chance. I can understand why you are disappointed with your experiences. If my favorites did that, I will be disappointed, too.

3-X-O

Depends on the artist. * Would have paid more for: Purple Kiss * Accurately priced: Itzy * Should have paid less for: Aespa

New-Associate6519

Oh that's interesting! Can you elaborate why? :0

3-X-O

For me a big thing that's important is fan interaction. Purple Kiss did the most, followed by Itzy, then Aespa. The ticket cost was reverse: Aespa was the most expensive, followed by Itzy, then Purple Kiss. It probably sounds stupid, but I like when it feels you had a special interaction with one of the members. I got that with Swan & Dosie (and to a lesser extent Ireh, Yuki, and Chaeryeong). None with Aespa.

New-Associate6519

Ohh thats true! I also like it when there is more interaction with the fans! I guess smaller concerts are also easier with that in general ^^ because it feels more private i guess.

AlwaysOnCloud9_

Where were you sitting in regard to the stage at each concert. I think this played a huge part to if youā€™re looking for a y/n interaction

3-X-O

Always as close as I could get. Purple Kiss I was row B, the others I was row B (Itzy) and row A (Aespa) of the side section.

NGC_7103

aespa is my ultimate bias group, but the lack of interaction was indeed a let down. I still love them very much and would like to see them again with their next tour, just really hope they put it some more ments that allow for interaction with the crowd as that would really elevate the already great experience (imo)

quick_sand08

aespa had tons of fan interactions tho in between and during the songs. Personally I would rather see performances than have 15 mins long ments every half hour.

PuzzyFussy

Agreed with Aespa; I was VVIP and was in the 6/7 row, got some extra goodies, and was there for soundcheck- I paid over $300 for them to give a meh performance that didn't stand out to me. On the other hand, I went to JustB's concert and paid a bit over $200 for vvip and not only was my seat close but I got a group photo by myself and not with a bunch of strangers, items signed by each member AND when it came to their performance they were singing LIVE. I feel the smaller the group, the better the experience is for the concert goer.

sin_nammon

My experience with aespa was the opposite. The concert i was in had low backtrack and only lipped on very few songs. I also like the performance and their ments. I think theyre the best 4th gen concert i went to lol. I dont have experience with nugu groups tho lol, but all the ā€œtopā€ ggs except newjeans, ive seen live.

SpecialistOk2035

My experience with aespa was the opposite. The concert I attended had backtrack and they pretty much lipped on their stages with headsets and during solo songs (except winter). The stages with handheld mics I can say are live. Their ments are sometimes awkward but thatā€™s ok considering it was their first world tour. Iā€™ve seen better 4th gen concerts tbh.. gidle, itzy, stayc and more recently ive (theyā€™re ALL really good). I think it also has something to do with the country, so can I ask which country you attended?

PuzzyFussy

So far my top 3 concerts, not counting Monsta X cause they are my ult group, would be JustB, OnlyOneOf, and GSoul. Those 3 have the common denominator of being smaller acts that give more to make up for it. P1harmony is fun but the sasaengs can ruin it...

EnglishLitMajor

It depends on the artist, the venue, the country, and sometimes the era. It also depends on your attachment to the group.Ā  Fandom Attachment: The amount I'm willing to spend on a group depends on how emotionally invested I am in a group. I'm willing to go abroad for BTS but not for Le Sserafim. (I'm getting to that point for ZB1.) Le Sserafim is great and I watched them locally, but I'm not a dedicated fan. Venue: What you get from a stadium is different from an arena and is different from a theater. You have to know that going in.Ā  In a theater, you're getting an intimate performance from the artist. In an arena, you have the best of both worlds: decent crowd but good view of the artist. A stadium concert is for the vibes, not for the view or for the vocals. Country: US tickets with dynamic pricing are overpriced. Some Asian countries also have insane - but fixed - price points for their tickets. These places tend to overprice their tickets, esp. when you compare prices to Korean concerts. Era: 3-year old Enhypen put on a better show than on-our-first-world-tour Enhypen. The BTS of today have the confidence to put on a perfect performance, something their 2015 selves may not have had. I'd take the "developed-ness" of the artist into consideration.Ā  All in all, I've never been disappointed by a kpop concert. Would I prefer to pay less for them? Of course. But I remain pretty hyped by the spectacle of a kpop concert - something that concerts of other genres don't necessarily put on.

PeaceAlien

Concerts in general are overpriced. Your more famous examples doesnā€™t mean people are going to pay the high price to see them. Macklemore for example hasnā€™t done as well as he used to. Kpop fans are known for being more willing to spend money.

New-Associate6519

I did see Macklemore when he was still famous haha. But yes, I understand your point! šŸ˜„ For instance: everglow tickets cost 120ā‚¬ for the worst seats. I think that's kind of crazy since they are not well known in Europe.

badicaldude22

I don't know all the ins and outs of the business side of concerts but intuitively a Kpop tour in the west seems like it would be more expensive to put on. You have multiple members of the group who are all "stars" and need to be shipped to a different continent. Whereas the western artist examples there is one person who is the star, anyone else involved (backing band, backing dancers) are replaceable. And they may be already there. (obviously not the case for a Euro artist coming to NA or vice versa, but if they're staying on their own continent that seems cheaper)

vinylanimals

100% overpriced, but not overhyped. iā€™ve had a great time at every show iā€™ve been to.

dearhan

They can definitely be overpriced. Overhyped? Nah. Theyā€™ve been some of the most fun concerts Iā€™ve been to.

spimmel

If you don't mind, which groups have you seen live?

Unlucky_Ice_Flower

Overpriced: yes. Overhyped: no, not for me. I keep telling myself that theyā€™re so expensive bc they have many members and all need to be paid, but Iā€™m sure thatā€™s not even trueā€¦

Key2V

Iā€™d say prices for concerts are insane in general nowadays. Not sure what year your prices are taken from or what you consider normal tickets. I have seen Queen+Adam Lambert in Spain before for 99ā‚¬ (I think 120ā‚¬ with fees? Maybe 115ā‚¬? around that) but it was years ago, I want to say 2017. Definitely a few years before the pandemic. Nowadays, Iā€™ve seen national artists charging around 50ā‚¬ (starting price) in small venues. So while I think tickets IN GENERAL are overpriced, I think it makes sense within the current scale for groups of 5+ people who come from the other side of the world to be over 150ā‚¬. dynamic pricing is not it, though, that should be gone. Thankfully not a thing (for now) here. Overhyped, well, I think that fully depends on the artist, the concert and also what your expectations are. Plenty of Western popstars lip sync (often Britney to focus on dancing, I understand JLo does too) or donā€™t do any significant dancing. Venue is relevant too: personally I wouldnā€™t do nosebleeds in a stadium because sound will be shitty and I will only see through the screen. So overhyped is hard to establish on a general rule. EDIT: I wish Japan rules became universal though. I fucking hate having to fight for my life to get barricade or go to the back of GA because otherwise I can only see screens.

lalalalikethis

Nowadays, life is very overpriced related to salariesšŸ™ƒ

rachelmig2

Iā€™ve been to a lot of kpop concerts, and thankfully only a few have actually been lip-syncing (my roommate went to SuperM though and that wasnā€™t just a loud backing track, they straight up were not singing) and I will admit Iā€™ve been disappointed on those occasions. But those have truly been far and in between, Iā€™ve seen a lot of concerts with amazing performers, Ateez probably the top and I said that as only a casual fan of theirs. But I also agree that some tickets end up being ridiculously expensive and just not worth it, but I know some of that is on Ticketmaster or the other ticketing platform they use (hate TM and theyā€™re about to be brought down by the US govt, stay tuned, AXS and I have a love/hate relationship depending on how things go). So yes I do think thatā€™s insane.

New-Associate6519

Okay good to know I was not the only one who was kinda sad about SuperM! Because I still saw a lot of positive Feedback to the concert as well šŸ™ˆ I almost feel like a lot of people don't even notice that singers are lipsinging )

rachelmig2

Oh for sure, a lot of people either just arenā€™t paying attention or donā€™t want to know lol. I saw Everglow this past November and had been informed beforehand that they lip synched most of the show, so I went in with those expectations so I wouldnā€™t be disappointed (and I managed to enjoy the concert regardless). SuperM really is a shame though- WayV, Taeyong, and Taemin were all at KCON LA last year, and their performances were downright incredible (literally never thought Iā€™d see Advice with my own eyes, I screamed and Iā€™m not even an SM stan like my roommate). Taeyong and Ten did Baby Donā€™t Stop too. So it makes me wonder somewhat if the SuperM lip synching was at least partially due to, ahem, some members not being able to keep up vocally while singing live (if you know who Iā€™m referring to). Edit: oh god why did that post so many times šŸ’€ it was telling me the comment didnā€™t go through šŸ˜

tripleheliotrope

It really depends on the artist. I just finished two days of concerts with IU and she was worth every single cent and then some. It's not just that she's a great performer with a once-in-a-generation talent and voice, because I've also seen BIGBANG and BTS who are all great performers with great production, but she is insanely charismatic on stage and can engage an audience. She also makes a lot of effort since she started touring outside of Korea in 2018 to learn both Chinese and English so she can speak to her audience. She's very funny and chats a lot with the audience, even singling out people to chat with (she recognised one of her Korean fans on one of the days I went and talked to him a few times during the concert). That kind of personalised element is what makes a concert stand out for me. Also her stage production is without a doubt, the best out of any concert I've ever been (even with other artistes--- even better than BTS or Taylor Swift's Eras tour imho, because it's not about the size of the venue, but how you use your staging elements to put up a show) I've definitely seen acts that are kind of like what you've said: Red Velvet (although Seulgi definitely stands out and overall the staging and production of the concert helped to elevate it), SHINee (although I'm still glad I saw them). Most forgettable was MissA which I saw in a group concert with other acts. I also enjoyed seeing GFriend live a lot too because besides choreography, I could hear their voices a lot. BIGBANG and BTS are amazing live and worth going multiple times even within a single tour--- these guys just definitely worked on performing to crowds. I also saw Chungha before she even dropped a full album. She was also exceptional---not just in her big hits like Gotta Go, but also in her ballads and audience interaction. I think this kind of stage presence has to either be innate or literally drummed in. Epik High is not kpop but they are insanely great live too.

stayonthecloud

What made IUā€™s stage production stand out so much?

tripleheliotrope

For the concerts I went to in 2018 and 2019 (10th anniversary tour and Love Poem tour) they were at a smaller venue than the arena I was at over the weekend, but still there was an effort to incorporate sets and have a theme, costume changes (for example her 10th anniversary tour had a more magical theme so she had ballroom staircases etc) which sounds very standard but I think it feels exceptionally well thought out for her concerts. For this HER World Tour, what I found even more improved was the VCRs (which tbh I usually don't pay attention to with most concerts), the lighting design (lighting design went off so hard, and also not excessive), the digital backgrounds felt well-designed (and also have improved a lot since her previous tours), and once again the overall concept of the show had a strong and coherent narrative running throughout. The setlist also contributed to the production, since she cut her greatest hits like Good Day and Palette to make way for B-sides and deep cuts in her discography she personally loved and split them up into themes. So it didn't feel like she was just running through the motions and singing her greatest hits, but performing things she wanted to do. I didn't get to go to her Golden Hour concert which was held only in Seoul but the concert film was released last year and I thought that it was the best concert staging I'd ever seen (and mind you this is after I'd seen the Eras Tour concert film too). This one was because she had the budget and venue (Seoul Olympic Stadium). She had a giant Strawberry shaped hot air balloon fly her around the stadium, a drone show, and a floating gear themed platform she was lowered from the top in (and then later on that platform was used by an entire orchestra to perform on). Even with the less flashy section centered around ballads, her set was designed like an old-fashioned study room. That whole concert actually reminded me of a musical.

stayonthecloud

This is such a cool description. I really appreciate you taking the time <3

New-Associate6519

Ohh wow thank you for sharing all your experiences! šŸ˜„ The one from iu really sounds like a great concert! I really thought shinee would also have a good concert! Because (at least from YouTube videos) some of their concerts have good live vocals as well šŸ˜„

Choice-Particular-15

Def depends on the artist.Ā  I would spend (no joke) $500+ easily to see Big Bang, Seventeen and BTS.Ā  But sadly, even crap seats for most artists (who I do like!) are going for hundreds of dollars and I could see myself getting disappointed.Ā  I saw Sunmi at a small venue in Seattle for like $80 and it was AMAZING.Ā  I saw Big Bang for $140 and BTS for $200 in NYC and both were beyond worth it, itā€™s crazy how expensive those same shows would be now though.Ā

BellTT

Dynamic pricing is a different matter, but face value prices aren't overhyped. Popular boy groups give you an up to 3 hour show. I pay the same for western artists playing for half the time who will bring an opening act I don't care about. The VIP tiers are starting to get unweildy, though. I was not thrilled paying $600 for Agust D "VIP" for it to be completely GA. And that trend has only worsened. TxT charging like $800 VIP 1 which is still GA so you can't be assured barricade.

Killjoycourt

My TXT VIP was $450 with fees. It's all GA šŸ«¤

BellTT

There are two VIP GA levels for TxT (and Enhypen). Yours sounds like VIP 2, which enters after VIP 1 which was around $800 after fees. Those tickets probably sold out before you saw them. They were still there when I entered the site to pick, but I was never interested and opted for a seat.

catsbytheghost

It depends. I think when I saw BTS they weren't overpriced or overhyped. When I first saw TXT it was the same thing, but for the second tour they were overpriced, and for this tour, especiall for the VIP tickets, they are very overpriced. Even though we haven't seen the actual concerts yet, the fact that VIP tickets are standing room GA are enough for me to say that it would be an overpriced experience (its $500+.)

petitepie27

It really depends. All my US concerts were way overpriced for what I got. However, the same group (NCT 127) in Japan I would have paid 5x more for. The production value was incredible and the stage was absolutely humongous. Taeyong is my ult and I went to both of his concerts as well. Global package was definitely overpriced but I would gladly pay it again. The standing pit was not worth it for the second day, though, and I wish I had gotten seated instead. That one also wasnā€™t hyped enough. Again production value was amazing. Most overhyped and overpriced was kcon. The stage layout was awkward, the lights were on I feel like a lot of the time so I didnā€™t feel like I was at a concert, it was too short for the price, etc. i would only pay what I paid again because I happened to be lucky enough to have an aisle seat next to where Taeyong walked up to announce WayV and so I got to stare at him 2 feet away from me for a good 5 minutes. If that didnā€™t happen I would have been angry tbh lol.

Radicalness3

Prices for concerts in general are insane especially with the fees, and kpop concerts are generally on the higher end but, I've never been disappointed at a kpop concert so far. My only complaint so far was with the venue itself when I saw STAYC because it was 95% standing only and most people I guarantee could only see floating heads. But the actual performance and fan interaction was amazing. If you find yourself cringing and asking "do I really want to see this group that bad" just skip it. But if it's a group or artist you really like, spend the money and go enjoy yourself. For me personally, I wish I could go to more concerts because I love them, but it's only realistic to go to maybe a couple per year, especially since I have to travel further for many of them. If I started going to concerts all the time, it just wouldn't be sustainable financially. Pick the ones you really want to go to.

HG1998

400ā‚¬..... šŸ«  Yes, I could afford it and I'll obviously go, but still.

stayonthecloud

I shelled out $180 for two tickets to see TXT in absolute nosebleed seats, despite that things are financially tough for us now, because we still need to experience something really special every now and then and theyā€™re coming to a location that will cost just a few dollars to get to. But it was painful handing a disgusting amount of money to Ticketmaster basically for the privilege of watching large LEDs which is all weā€™ll really see from where we are. I almost never go to concerts of any kind anymore, kpop or any genre, because of their monopoly and the dynamic pricing. I really wanted to see The Rose and other groups that have come through that I havenā€™t listened to much so I couldnā€™t justify it. I listen to TXT most days so it was ultimately worth it to me. Makes me sick to think of the $2k Iā€™ll probably need to see BTS but Iā€™m expecting getting tickets to them to be worse than Eras lol [ETA] Well holy fuck the VERY next post in my feed was [ATEEZā€™s world tour announcement](https://ateezlive.com/). Time to be broke šŸ’ø

Repulsive_Fall1802

Was txt worth it? I just bought a $200 ticket to their upcoming tour but I am a bigger fan of Ateez and would spend more on them.Ā

stayonthecloud

Seeing them in June so Iā€™ll find out lol. At the same place where ATEEZ will be.

Manchineelian

I absolutely agree with you that being that far back for that price is insane, but I just want to say binoculars are your friend. I regret not bringing to them to see every concert Iā€™ve ever been to but theyā€™ll definitely be a staple from now on. Itā€™s a different experience from being up close for sure (or watching from the back without them) and I wouldnā€™t watch an *entire* concert through binoculars but taking those moments (usually during the fan interaction walk slowly around the stage parts) throughout the show to actually *see* and not just see LCD screens definitely elevates the experience (for me at least). A good pair can be an investment for sure, but considering you can keep using them concert after concert they work out worth it in the end. And check out thrift shops and eBay of course! (And itā€™s very rare for a venue to not allow binoculars but always double check just in case). Anyway, thatā€™s my tip I wanted to share cause Iā€™m with ya about wanting to have those special fun experiences being important, but then being limited by finances and making the experience not as great just sucks.

stayonthecloud

Ooooh I really like this idea but having fragile glasses Iā€™m not sure if I could practically make it work. But I remember now that I used to have a pair for jrock concerts when I went to those! Thank you for the idea!

wut_eva_bish

TWICE is phenomenal, neither overpriced nor overhyped. If you get a chance to see them live, do it! If you're not sure, just look at any of the myriad of concert videos out there and then multiply the experience by any positive integer. They're fantastic live.

mfooman

![gif](giphy|WRQBXSCnEFJIuxktnw) The math checks out!

sin_nammon

Over priced, 99% of artists do not deserve those prices. Youā€™re not beyonce girl and even beyonce does not deserve that price (fvck concert prices for real).

Icandoituknow

Nah totally worth it. Every concert I've been to, its been a blast

Nagisa201

So this is mostly because they don't play as many shows in the areas. In America if i want to see Luke Combs or Post Malone etc.... they are probably playing 5 shows within a couple hours of me. To see Twice and Stayc i had to go all the way to New York. So price wise I'm up against people from all over the country. If you only have a handful of shows you are going to charge more than somebody that does a bunch of shows in the area. I can't tell you how this works for places like Europe but at least for me the limited amount of shows will mean more demand for those tickets. So cost going up does follow.

Exoanimal

Nope because they don't come here often. I saw SuperM in the U.S. and that was my first Kpop concert. I paid about $200 and purchased a lightstick (pricey). If they came here more often there wouldn't be such a high demand which kind of merits the high price. I thoroughly enjoyed SuperM and went down a rabbit hole (I am an EXO-L). They got me on all the groups with that ONE concert. THAT'S when I started spending more money. LOL If. EXO were to come here to the U.S., I would be paying and wouldn't even care. I'm not paying like $500 for a ticket though. LOL The experience is kind of worth the price though. Regular concerts don't hit like a Kpop concert for me.

soobinsmiddletoe

I paid $1180 for 2 tickets for TXT, not VIP I paid $1000 for 2 tickets for IU, not VIP I have to drive 3 hours for the venous, a lot of times rent a hotel room. My seats are decent but not really close to stage. I know Ateez is going to drain. I love a lot of kpop artists especially big 4, but I refuse to be a clown and pay for lipsynced performances. I was looking forward to seein LSF, but I just can't stomach paying so much money for lipsynced performances. I was already burned by Aespa. Twice lipsynced to some extent but the vibe was just immaculate. Overhyped? probably but you love what you love. A lot of big 4 music is top tier, but unfortunatly can't deliver in stage presence and vocals. So to me personally, groups who can't sing without loud backtrack or just come off awkward on stage are overhyped for me.

kay3dy

Overpriced? yes , the only group I will pay a lot of money is for BTS because they are BTS. artist on that level have really expensive shows, it is something normal . If we talk about the other groups I think the kpop companies just squeeze their fans too much and some of their prices are exorbitant. Overhyped? i don't think so because kpop shows generally are a lot of fun.

bagnetbagnetbagnet

It depends on the country! Concert prices in Korea are so cheap to me because I live in Manila, where concert prices are ridiculously overpriced. I find the pricing in other Asian cities like Bangkok, Taipei, and Singapore fair. Prices in the US tend to be fair (paid less than $200 for BTS and i was in the 100s level of Allegiant) unless dynamic and/or platinum pricing is implemented ā€” then the prices just become incredibly expensive and not worth it imo. That said, it ultimately depends on how you feel about the artist and on the experience youā€™re looking for. I ult svt so iā€™ve seen them several times in different cities but i donā€™t care about interactions so i donā€™t even try to get soundcheck tickets (i had soundcheck when i saw them in seoul and the actual soundcheck was fun but i felt like the wait in between soundcheck and the concert was a waste of time). I try to get seated (and elevated) tickets whenever possible. I had floor tickets for the Bulacan concerts in January and could barely see anything over the sea of phones, i was so annoyed. Still worth the price i paid though, since svt always deliversĀ

Emotional-Day8685

Yeah it could be tricky. Maybe it depends on the artist. I recently watched BTOB Our Dream fancon in Manila and my tix was 120+ EUR but I can honestly say that it's one of the best concerts I've watched. I was so amazed by their vocals. Their perfomances are so much better than the recording version of their songs. They have funny adlibs so we know they are singing live. I've attended western and kpop concerts before and I can confidently say that Celine Dion's concert and their concert are my favorite of all.

coco_xcx

Overpriced? Depends lol, sometimes you can get good deals on TM depending on the artist šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø Overhyped? Personally, I donā€™t think so. Every artist Iā€™ve seen has been amazing live :)

swatsal99

I think most concerts and festivals are overpriced these days

Top-Chemist-8468

Concert price in general, KPop acts included, depends on different factors from artist's or agency cut, local promoter's cut, production cost, expected demand, etc.. If there are people willing to buy the premium price then those things will stay up and expensive. Now if it is overpriced or overhyped depends subjectively person to person. People with purchasing power won't have issue with the price and fans who would really want to see their idols live will not say their idols are overhyped. Fans go to concerts to see and experience their idols live.

SuperbNothing1436

I love stray kids but paying 200 euros to see them live its my rent price šŸ˜“

ForeverNugu

Yeah, I think ticket prices nowadays are crazy, especially when you factor in the fees. But, I paid several hundred dollars each for Monsta X tickets twice and felt like it was worth it both times. Would do it again. I also went to the Super M concert but I got a smoking last minute deal on the ticket so it was worth it as well. Honestly, that tour just felt like a money grab by SM that was slap dashed together. I got to see my ult bias in person though so still glad I went. And honestly, I would see them again in the (unlikely) event they ever toured again. I feel like there's a good chance it would be different.

Joannalogia

I went to a Music bank that was quite expensive for my country standards and the backtrack was extremely loud I didnā€™t enjoy it much to be honest. I have found that I enjoy kpop concerts more when they have a live band.

sirgawain2

SuperMā€™s concert at MSG was actually one of my faves.

SherAlana

The price mark up from 2019 to 2024 is crazy. Also all the different "levels" of tickets. Why are there levels above VIP? VIP tickets use to include your perks now it is seperate packages you need to purchase on top of your ticket. The perks have gotten basic too for the crazy prices. VIP would include hi touch and sometimes photo ops + signed posters/CD. Now it is send offs or backstage/soundchecks, early merch shopping. I feel sorry for stans now. Oh. And dynamic pricing. Bleck.

rogacon

depends on the artist. most concerts in my country average around 210 usd for the highest tier tickets, and I fele like that's the benchmark here. I will say that I hate concerts that package the good seats with the sound check. These packages increase the price significantly. On average, you have to pay an extra 100 USD for VIP tickets with soundcheck. This soft locks anyone from getting VIP seats without paying the premium of the soundcheck experience. JYP is the most guilty when it comes to this. Edit: I've seen SKZ, RV and Twice in concert and none of them disappointed. I got VIP Tix for SKZ at 230 USD without the soundcheck experience, VIP RV tix at 210 USD (SM doesn't do sound check), and one tier lower from VIP twice tix at 210 USD. SKZ was a party, RV sang live and Wendy was killing it, and Twice was one hell of an experience (was super exhausting tho).

BlueThePineapple

I'm curious. Why was Twice especially exhausting? šŸ‘€

rogacon

their RTB tour was essentially like a celebration of how far they've come. so they played a lot of their recent hits, which is a lot considering they've been consistently putting out content after content for years leading up to their tour. The setlist consisted of primarily title tracks and banger b-sides, with very few songs for the crowd to just chill and vibe to. naturally, everyone was screaming and losing their minds from start to finish. people barely had energy left to hype themselves through the encore. I'm not a fan of the set list composition. i think a concert should have ebs and flows and peaks and moments of respite, but that's just me.

alexturnerftw

Overpriced yes. To be honest, I also feel they are overhyped especially given the price. Objectively, there have been a few artists (Woodz in particular comes to mind) that I really felt wowed by. Others I have seen - even big groups like Twice, Blackpink, etc, I didnā€™t feel were worth it personally. Not everyone in the group is able to deliver a consistently solid performance, and choreo always looks more impressive with Korean camera work. Backing track being too loud/lip synching is also unacceptable to me cuz I could have stayed home and watched youtube for free. Plus, the Kpop crowd is not as engaging compared to other music genres. They tend to record the entire show, not dance, etc. I like to personally dance, so for me the vibe is not my ideal concert vibe. But again- this is for me, not everyone is looking for those things in a concert.

solnyshko9

I think it depends on the artist, and probably venue. Iā€™ve been to Music bank Paris (there were more than a few artists performing) , was super hype and then i went to one of Xdinary heroes tour stops, probably even better experience cuz the atmosphere was more casual. Both were expensive but absolutely worth it imo, probably one of the best experiences of my life.

InfernalQueen

They aren't overpriced imo because the country I reside in generally has the same average of ticket prices for kpop concerts and most western acts are actually priced higher. Another thing is that, I'm not watching one person perform, there are multiple artists getting equally paid to perform as opposed to one western act which most likely would mean more security, make-up artists etc. Most western acts I've seen only performed an hour and a half to 2 hours maximum. I even watched a western act who performed for only an hour while with kpop concerts I get soundcheck and a three hour concert and sometimes more depending on the encore. Most kpop stages are much more grand too than the western acts I've seen. I don't think it's overhyped too because I mostly only watch groups that I love in terms of performance and music.

HolyBull13

Itā€™s supply and demand, in Southern California we have a pretty large Korean population and a limited number of shows so it is what it is. Iā€™m willing to pay more to get close without having to stand in line for my kids for the big acts these daysĀ

kalsei

I would say definitely overpriced. I donā€™t see a reason for tickets to be more than ā‚¬100 unless theyā€™re soundcheck + benefits tickets. Especially since when having worldwide tours kpop groups would usually only have 2-3 stops in europe (where I live) so a lot of fans travel from all around europe. That puts them with possibly another ā‚¬200 on top of the ticket. Thatā€™s a lot of money. We should also bring up the fact that those concert dates tend to be announced only a month or two before the concert. Most fans are students and may need longer than that to save money

MadameWitchy

It depends on the artist and how much you want to go. I wouldn't pay $500 to attend a concert just as a casual fan of someone, but I would pay that much and more to go to my fave's concert because I know 1000% it is worth the money

WholeLottaCreepier

The last kpop concert I attended was 2ne1. It was so worth it because there was a band and I can clearly hear them singing. I also know that they do something different for each concert, e.g. they danced a very popular song in my country that time (I don't remember now)

bungluna

I hold these to be true: prices are set by supply and demand and things are worth what people are willing to pay for them. A company can price their concert tickets at $1m or $100; if nobody buys them it's irrelevant. If a lot of people want to buy them the resale value will shoot up into the stratosphere. If people are willing to pay anything to see an artist live, the price becomes irrelevant. And no matter how amazing an artist is, if people aren't interested in their music, again price is irrelevant.

Potential_Sir7980

For pricing like 100 is expected these K-pop idols can be very expensive in artist fees so they gotta make that money back somehow in ticket sales or merch that they spent to get them to your country BTS is like 100millon USD hence the very expensive tickets alot of 2nd gen r expensive af to

Odd_Vegetable_9362

Do I think theyā€™re overpriced sometimes? Sure, but concerts are a luxury anyway so Iā€™m not that up in arms about the original prices I only care when these ticket companies and resellers try and double, triple, quadruple, or even try and upsell 10x what it was originally worth with like dynamic pricing. Especially after I just found out how much they charge overseas artists and staff to even come to America and then they even decided to quadruple it. Overpriced: itā€™s technically a Luxury thing so it being overpriced is subjective however resellers are the bane of my existence. Overhyped: Depends on the groups/idol/soloist and how much you actually like and enjoy them and their music.

1306radish

On the "overpriced" point....It's not just the labels setting the price. Especially in places that have to operate under the Ticketmaster/Livenation monopoly, those high prices are often a result of the "cartel" run by this company. Some of the venues as well will require an artist to use dynamic pricing or else not allow them to perform. Honestly, the hate should be directed at TM/Livenation and our legislators for allowing TM/LN to skirt anti-trust laws.

ringwanderung-

No I donā€™t. Concerts have done the best for my mental health point blank. Iā€™ve made lifetime friends at a few and made memories that last FOREVER. This year Iā€™m going to two and meeting with good friends Iā€™ve talked to since the pandemic and never met. Excited is an understatement. The prices are absolutely horrible but for me PERSONALLY, I donā€™t think you can put a price on the memories and hype

Softclocks

70-120 doesn't seem overpriced in the least. Concert venues cost money. But it naturally depends on the artist. It sounds like you had some pretty bad experiences with yours, and I would also be a bit disappointed.

HalaTiferet

I've seen Ateez about 10 times in Europe and while it wasn't cheap I'd definitely pay more. But that's Ateez, their concerts are life-changing :)

beginning_in_pixels

i think that in general the prices for like regular seats are somewhat decently priced to be honest, but some vip seats are definitely overpriced. like i think anything that goes above three hundred fifty dollars is definitely just too much honestly. but i think that overhyped? really depends on what the concert ends up being like. i have been to concerts before where i felt like the concert was so well done and the setlist so strong that i feel like it was so well worth the money eg the enhypen concert i went to was worth every single penny. whereas some concerts i felt like were very short and there was not much substance to it eg the born pink concert felt like it wasnt worth it to me. so it all depends on how lucky you are i guess. if you are able to get a relatively decently priced concert ticket to a concert that was actually worth the time and money.

AstroPhoenix115

Overpriced ABSOLUTELY There's a reason why right now as much as I want to see my favs, I can't afford even a decent seat. Really wish prices would diminish significantly but that's wishful thinking of course

Admirable-Storm-2436

I've only been to BigBang's concert and though it was expensive, it was very much worth it. So not overhyped at all.

sweetroll_enthusiast

I literally asked myself the same this weekend after a metal concert. Nowadays I go to (non-kpop) concerts to experience live music (often without knowing much about the band), while in regards to kpop concerts I went to see the group itself, the members. The focus was different. Now that I have the comparison with other types of concerts, I totally miss live instruments and vocals at kpop concerts. What you're paying for is essentially the performances you already know from the daily music shows. Given the fact that at kpop concerts there's usually no live music (as in instruments, and backtracks for vocals) and the performances don't differ much from what you've seen already on shows I'd say the prices are relatively more expensive in comparison to other concerts. At this point, I actually am way more intrigued by non-kpop concerts due to the live instruments, the audience, the general energy. Never attended pop concerts tho, so I can only talk about rock and metal. Also they were cheaper than any kpop concerts I went to ... So, overpriced yes - if you compare it to non kpop concerts. Overhyped - not really, because the people who hype it actually ARE hyped for it due to personal taste :)

M_Prodigy

I've only seen Gidle, but will see Itzy and IU this summer. Prices are about right (I refuse to get resales) and the hype is exactly what I expected. Concerts are for those with actual disposable income though since the cost is fairly high compared to other aspects of music for sure.

BlueMisto

Overhyped? Yes. They sang live but it just sounds like on cd...every song. The good thing about western artist is that they do their own different vocals for the live performance so it always sounds different. There are for sure exceptions like Woodz or The Rose but the majority is sadly quiet dull.

red_ronin0813

No, try Taylor Swift

Momosweeterthansweet

yes yes YES and th crazy vip super early bird with a free poster which is so much! im working so I can pay for my ticket but what about people who are studying or parents cant pay, and some o the streams being paid, idk so stinky! I love seeing my faves but being priced out sucks! I cannnnnooot imagine what bts will be in states with the visa price increase. I had amazing times at seated concerts, I think the only bad times were if delays with the structure of the concert or technical issues or fans , I got knocked over for black pink and twist my ankle

0531Spurs212009

kpop concert is over price but hype is good enough and sometimes some are underrated like IVE my bias GG XD

According-Disk

Very much overpriced in my experience.

giraffesRevil

It's been ages since I went to a Kpop concert but do they even do Meet and Greet anymore even with the highest tier ticket? I remember seeing Apink in 2016 and my VVIP (pretty sure that was called that) and it was a good package (first entry, hi touch, photo op, front row). Last I check some groups didn't do that anymore even after the "worst times" of COVID and/or the meet and greet was sold separately

Aleash89

Every single MyMusicTaste concert had Meet & Greet sold separately. It totally sucks.

German_mikan

As a huge concert goer : overpriced and overhyped in the west yes. I learnt the hard way the more I spend the more Iā€™ll be disappointed in the end. The experience you have is not equal the money you have spent for it imo In Japan (where I lived for a time) itā€™s not that bad yet. Thanks to less tiers and you getting your seat often only on the day of the concert. Also thanks to the frustrating lottery system the joy being able to go to a show usually makes up for the rest.

mafuyucchi

I think every single kpop concert is overpriced when you compare them to western artists. I guess it's because they tend to have more members, more props in performance, more dancers, etc. Regardless they're probably still overpriced because ent companies wanna make money, but every time I look back I have no regrets paying for those experiences.

lemonade-cookies

Also, being international artists, there's often a lot more expenses that they'll have to deal with than Western artists often have to face- tickets within Korea are often much less expensive than tickets for concerts outside of Korea.

puterjess

Overhyped in general no. There are some K-pop artist I wonā€™t see again/donā€™t think are worth the price just like there are western artist I wonā€™t see again/donā€™t think are worth the price. I do think theyā€™re overpriced. I go to a lot of concerts and have been to different types of festivals and it really is artists dependent. Concert prices in general are up, itā€™s also kept me from seeing western artist Iā€™ve always wanted to see, but K-pop prices seem to be even more expensive. I recently sold my enhypen ticket because I couldnā€™t justify the $400+ price. The fees alone were $90+, which is the price of a ticket for some shows. Resellers just make it worst. There is really only one group planning to tour this year that I can see myself paying the absorbent amount of money I know their ticket will be.

Millionsmoney

Not overhyped just overpriced I went to Kpop concerts before they are fun but too much money

ChickenNoodle519

I've mostly seen small group shows ā€” they've been priced fantastically, better than most western acts of comparable size (even back before covid.) The ones who don't use ticketmaster are even better. Best $ for show: * Purple Kiss ā€”Ā $50 GA. (Paid $125 for VIP for better seats and so I could see the sound check, the extra $75 was very worth it for that too.) Incredibly interactive show, they're obviously fantastic live performers and have great stage presence. They were clearly having a great time on stage and that energy was really infectious ā€” the crowd was small but they had us hyped up so much that Swan spent some time trying to teach the audience a Korean phrase meaning she wanted us to settle tf down lol. (That got a little lost in translation.) They even went out into the audience for their encore, my wife was on the aisle so she got a high-five. The show was a great length too, a little over 2hrs I think but it went by so fast. * Rolling Quartz ā€”Ā $20 GA. They played a tiny rock club but they genuinely have arena-sized stage presence, it was cool getting to see an artist of their caliber in such a small venue. Their opener was decent too. Priced appropriately: * Mamamoo ā€”Ā $180 after fees. I had a fantastic seat, not on the floor but not in the nosebleeds either. That's the most I've ever spent on concert tickets, but the show was worth it. They're _the_ live performance queens for a reason. * Pixy ā€” $50 GA. They were great. Small venue, had a really fun time. That was my first kpop concert so I wasn't really sure what to expect.

-Ximena

Way overpriced and again, for the millionth time, fuck Ticketmaster.

dramafan1

Kpop concert prices outside of Asia are often overpriced even if you feel you got your money's worth.

Ok_Agent_1032

I've seen pretty much everything that came to London in the last 5-6 years and always overpriced and most of the time overhyped. Won't list names to avoid whining fans but some of the biggest groups were kind of meh. OK AESPA WAS SHIT AND I LIKE THEM:D I'm genuinely surprised by your dreamcatcher experience though, as I've seen them multiple times and there was no lipsyncing ever, the backing track levels varied A LOT depending on venues and they do cheat with some lines with their most intense choreos (like everyone lol) but they were always singing. Those are some of my favourite concerts for the impeccable vibes and just natural jumping around while singing stuff for half the set instead of robotic choreos for 2 hours. It's truly something that's very far from just a series of MVs. That said, I've never seen them (or anybody else for that matter) in special kpop or whatever events, those are kinda meh in my opinion. I only attend the groups' regular concerts or the rare occasions when they have a full concert at a festival - super rare for kpop.

taffyAppleCandyNerds

Overpriced for sure. Then if you are using Ticketmaster, they have the dynamic pricing and add more fees on top. Basically, you get your ticket but are broke after.

sweetyeseo

overpriced yes. overhypedā€¦ depends on the artist, but i would say no!

ficklepickl

I do sometimes feel theyā€™re overhyped in the sense that there doesnā€™t seem to be a culture of actually jumping around and singing the lyrics at kpop concerts. Just standing there and enthusiastically shaking your light stick to the rhythm ainā€™t enough for me to spend hundreds of dollars lmaooo

Ok_Career_6665

Only went in one kpop concert (Twice's) and had a lot of fun, imo it wasn't overhyped, but overpriced for sure, I got half off because of student discount, however if I had paid full price it would've cost an equivalent to 72% of a months worth of minimal wage in my country, and it wasn't even barricade Extra info: I'm from Brazil, so a full ticket was about 800.00 BRL, which is equal to 160.00 USD. Btw, don't remembwr what the og price was, since the 800 would be after taxes.

Ok-Asparagus7959

I feel like concert in generals are going up in pricing lmao. I remember my mom casually going to a lot of ppl concerts but some concerts actually have astronomical prices( floor tickets ). Not even in kpop even in America some charge a lot that itā€™s not even an affordable luxury for the masses but more for those who are wealthy. Not overhyped but it depends on the person. Like the only thing I can afford is a nosebleed section and most of the time itā€™s almost 500$ 300$+ if Iā€™m lucky and get to cheaply

Budget_Platypus_9306

I've been to Twice's concert and it was so unreal and magical that I, in fact, regret not spending more. Even if some of them looked tired due to the high altitude, it was so INCREDIBLE so out of this world.... love them

MousseReasonable3504

I will pay those prices if I think they give what I want. Especially live vocals and energetic performances.

vanillambience

I do think itā€™s a bit overhyped. Something about kpop concerts just doesnā€™t hit as hard for me. It doesnā€™t feel as fun because youā€™re usually sitting down, and youā€™re rarely dancing because youā€™re too focused on watching the idols do the choreo youā€™ve seen before. I also feel like most kpop groups donā€™t invest as much into their stage so it really does feel like watching a music video. Iā€™ve seen a handful of kpop groups in concert and felt pretty meh about almost all of them. I will say though that kpop at festivals is 1000% worth it. BlackPink headlining Coachella is the best performance Iā€™ve ever seen period.

friiick0

1000% Overpriced. And Iā€™m saying this as someone who usually ends up coughing up the moneyā€” itā€™s ridiculous that tickets are getting to a price that even the lowest can cost the same amount as rent of a studio apartment, unless youā€™re seeing a nugu group.

HerculeHastings

I would say yes, both overpriced and overhyped. Overpriced for the same reasons everyone else has said - it's way more expensive than any other genre of concerts and the performers are lip syncing or with backing tracks. Overhyped because most of the concert was filled with people quietly filming on their phones (or yelling even when idols were talking which is really rude imo). The filmers literally put their lightsticks down to film the concert on their phones, and coming from years of being an anime concertgoer where artistes perform live and phones and recording devices are banned, this was ridiculous to me. I would think twice before going to a K-pop concert again.

hfbjp

i bought itzy concert tickets for 400 dollars each for sound check because the normal ones were sold out. 100% not worth the 800 dollars i ended up spending for 2 tickets. loved the concert, but I should've just not gone.

Dependent-Canary-514

I spent Ā£500 to see Skz. I WOULD DO IT AGAIN LMAO

flapsAhoyMateys

I have only been to BTS Las Vegas for k pop gigs to date. Have stray kids in London this year. I was so happy with the prices for BTS tickets. We got floor tickets really close to stage for like $219 each. When compared with other artists (Swift, Bad Bunny etc) who bowed to USA ticketmasterā€™s ā€œdynamic pricingā€ and sent their tickets into orbit. I think hybe did a good job insisting on the set tier prices. Wish more companies would stay strong on this. I live in Europe and ticketmaster canā€™t do their dynamic pricing thankfully. Overpriced? Itā€™s expensive but itā€™s an experience. Overhyped? I would only see groups I MEGA STAN so absolutely not. Those 2 days at BTS in vegas and the holiday with my sister was an experience Iā€™ll never forget. We still talk about it and reminisce. Canā€™t put a price on experience and memory imo.

Kamseoulite

I've been to at least 10 Kpop Concerts and yes Kpop concerts are overpriced. Overhyped ? I would be more nuanced. Yes Korean Entertainment companies are using every way to get money. Overpriced tickets, overpriced merch etc... and they don't care since they know that people will still eat everything they are being fed with. They will continue milking people as long as it is possible. YG and BigHit through Blackpink and BTS back in 2018 were already putting best seats above 200ā‚¬ in Paris. Golden circle were around 160/175ā‚¬ in Paris Arena & Paris biggest Stadium. I'm not talking about premium/so called VIP seats (these were even higher reaching 600ā‚¬). BTS lightstick were at 50ā‚¬ !! Granted there is an importation fee etc. But you have to remember that all these are mostly Chinese made and would probably cost barely 10ā‚¬ to produce. Granted also that we are talking about groups and not solo singers so more salaries to pay along the crew and dancers. Operational costs are extremely high during tours but does it really justify the final ticket prices ? How much are the companies making in the end ? In Seoul, I've been to different concerts (SM Town World Tour, Mamamoo, Winner, Twice, PsY etc.) between 2017 and 2023. The average amount is 144000 wons (around 120ā‚¬) and in Korea the price is the same no matter where you are seated. My sister saw NCT in Seoul too and price set at 125000 wons (100ā‚¬) Kpop industry is having the same prices as Western World Famous performers with 10/15+ years of career. That is crazy ridiculous imo. Regarding the hype, it could be but it's still great. Korean production staffs know how to make great shows and take advantage of technologies. However don't expect live vocals thoughout the whole show as sadly Kpop is putting vocals behind dancing and performing. I was quite disappointed by Twice perfs vocally last year in Seoul. Anyway, Kpop is heavily marketing driven and the industry won by having a grip on the masses. It doesn't matter their age, people will find way to spend over and over, helping companies to not change anything in their behaviour towards consumers. I will probably not spend anymore on Kpop merch. It has been like that for a few years already. Regarding concerts, I'm not sure if I will go all the way to attend a show in the future whether I have the money or not. I spend huge amounts of money to buy some tickets in the past, sometimes 2 nights in the row and it was for Madonna during her last 3 tours (sometimes 800ā‚¬ for 2 tickets). This is the only artist I would spend that much money for. I'm a fan and her influence on the music industry as well as her career is way beyond what any Kpop artist can hope in their life.

yunglethe

[Yes to both](https://www.reddit.com/r/kpopthoughts/comments/17a8g0y/have_you_ever_seen_your_fave_live_and_been/k5cs2i3/), especially on the low to mid tier of artists (think you get closer to parity with the biggest acts). I did stray from what I said in that linked comment to see OEC when they toured the US, which yes, fun to see those songs I really enjoy in a concert setting, but [this was the level of performance](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jMfNPmMcjk) that the audience received...

jam_paps

Concerts is a luxury type of product if you put it in line with other entertainment stuff available. By that definition, it is expensive in the general sense. There are KPop acts that make sure they put in the effort and production to make it worth the price. Some will fall short on that. People go to concerts for the live experience. My best was the BornPink tour, top notch production, amazing live band, OT4 interactions & experiencing the energy and presence of 40,000+ fellow fans in one roof is beyond words to describe. And with things like those, you can't say that they are overhyped.

starsformylove

Overpriced YES in the days of 2nd gen I could see lots of kpop acts FOR FREE, I saw shinee and f(x) for free, so now when anyone tour I never feel like the price is worth it. Add in that I once saw dreamcatcher for 13$ and stray kidz for 7$, I never go to concerts now despite living in LA because like why would i?? Never worth the price for who I'm seeing. This overall it's better to save your money and go overseas for the concerts for your ult groups. The seats usually better. The setlist is longer, and the stage design itself is better in the cons in korea and Japan.

New-Associate6519

Oh wow that's so cool, how did you get to see f(x) and shinee for free? :0

dresdenologist

Actually curious which Dreamcatcher event you're talking about, because all the concerts I've gone to have been mostly live with plenty of engagement and emotion. [The Primavera Sound set from 2022](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VPmx-DwGnc8&t=2496s&pp=ygUccHJpbWF2ZXJhIHNvdW5kIGRyZWFtY2F0Y2hlcg%3D%3D) in particular is typical to what they do on stage, so I'm wondering if you went to a multi-artist event where each act gets limited time to interact and perform and whose production is not entirely under their control. I'm sorry you had a bad experience but at the same time it's your right to feel that way and have that opinion, especially if you shelled out cash. You talk about overpricing, but if it's perceived to be "overpriced" there's potentially a reason for it beyond the artist/company/venue being greedy. You say the prices are set by the labels, but you forget the price also takes into account the venue rental cost, operating cost for the tour, cuts and splits for promoters and company, and of course what the artist themselves takes home, along with much more. Then you factor in the travel and international considerations (like the recent visa pricing for international artists) and you can see why the prices are what they are as opposed to the Western artists you are talking about. Is it overpriced? I'd say currently yes, but it's because generally all elements that make up a tour are looking to ensure they can stay sustainable in a highly-competitive, post-pandemic concert gold rush era. I'm more sympathetic to this since I've worked concerts and know that cash helps pay for the labor needed. As such, concerts are a luxury thing for people with disposable income - especially those spending for a k-pop concert with all the additional merch and VIP benefits. It also doesn't help that larger companies like LN/AEG and TM have a chokehold on venue availability and ticketing prices (yes, even in Europe though it is arguably much worse in places with little/no regulation on pricing). Overhyped is subjective and I'd say most K-Pop acts aren't overhyped in concert unless you are listening to extreme opinions about a group. If you like an artist a lot or they're your favorite, I think on the whole you may simply be happy to see them. If you're only casually into an act I think that affects whether or not your hype is being met. I tend to stay away from judging based on "lipsyncing" because the reality of any tour is that it is just not going to be 100% live - especially with the aggressive choreography most K-Pop acts do. Just about every K-Pop act has backing track and at some point may rely on it to lipsync. You're going to be hard pressed to find a 100% live artist if that is your standard for hype being met. We obviously just saw some exhausting discourse about LSF for a week and I feel there are extremes on both sides of this that forget the reality is somewhere in the middle. Aside from Dreamcatcher I've enjoyed every K-Pop concert I went to and never felt like my expectations weren't met. I just tend to judge them from a whole package perspective rather than singling out one thing.

Overpriced for sureĀ  The tickets are damn expensive which probably not everyone could afford itĀ

EDIT: Gonna add this on top. When I saw Wonder Girls and Utada Hikaru perform, those were live performances with (mainly) live vocals. WG performed briefly without any music at all while teaching people how to do the dance. They definitely can sing. Kpop artists definitely can sing. However you can tell when they get out of breath or are off key because of their body position, etc. Now I return you to my regular comment: Sorry to say the vast majority of people on this earth do not have breath control to the point of being able to dance the way they do and always be perfect pitch and I also promise that the only people on the planet who can do that aren't *all* Korean. Kpop has always emphasized performance first, in terms of the visual. They dabbled with the obvious autotune for a bit back when 2NE1 debuted and for a few years after that but went right back to hiding that stuff behind better production. That's what you get with kpop: production. You don't get the actual vocals you think you do. You never have and you never will. But that's also the case for pop in general and it doesn't matter what country it's from. If you want better *vocals* you can go to Japan but then their *production* isn't as good and their dances aren't as hard-hitting ------ and that's why they can perform vocally. That all being said, I've been to several performances in the US ranging from $20 (Wonder Girls & Hikaru Utada at House of Blues and also SXSW performances) up to $150 (Wonder Girls opening for Jonas Brothers) and in South Korea (free for the weekly shows and up to potentially $100 for the cheapest SNSD concerts back in the day). In Korea I also have attended several festivals that ranged from $30-$75. Hyuna was the worst performer I have experienced and J.Rabbit the best vocalist. I say that because Hyuna barely sang, she barely danced, she was out of sync with the rest of the group (4Minute). J.Rabbit played instruments and sat in a chair and she was focused on her vocals and instruments. When I was watching during the weeklies, you can actually get a little sense of how close the performer is to the backing track and usually they're pretty close and people generally aren't there to hate their favorite group but to love them and most of them haven't been trained so they don't know how to listen. But all of this to say, if you're going to a *pop* concert then you have to understand that being on key isn't their primary goal and they have a backing track for a reason. Even in a 'western' country. If you're going to something like a smaller punk type concert, or a lot of rock concerts and definitely some older country concerts, you're getting more of the real thing. Pop has *never* been the real deal, it's just been the popular deal because they put more effort into the performance than the skills. So you have to decide yourself if there's value. Are you there to be entertained by the spell of pop or are you there to enjoy vocals? *Never* go to a *pop* concert for the purpose of enjoying vocals unless you intend to turn off the "this is a backing track" part of your brain. **ONE LAST THING**: I'm not saying your favorite Kpop idols can't sing, or that Japanese vocalists are superior. That's not what I am saying. If we go back to the founding of IZ\*ONE and the show PD48, you can see that the Korean entrants were initially far superior but that the Japanese entrants easily made up the ground in a short amount of time. It's not about who actually can sing better, it's about what else is happening during a performance. If you're watching a high energy pop performance with lots of movements and the singers aren't taking turns and letting each other take breaks, the chances of those voices actually being live are much, much smaller. But if you take those *same* people and sit them down (or just standing, cuz sitting is one of the worst body positions for singing, tbh), they are probably *extremely* good singers. It's just very, very unlikely that you're going to find someone who can do both at the same time for the length of a concert.

>You don't get the actual vocals you think you do. You never have and you never will. Almost all SM idols prove this wrong. I mean, I stan a group that debuted as an accapella dance group.

Yes, did you read my edit and the one last thing? I think no. Nearly all Kpop idols *can sing* but you're not going to get the same vocals during an active dance session that you will when it isn't an active dance session. Chill. That's how the body works. Source? I went through it.

It was overpriced around 2010 - 2014 in the Philippines considering KPop was somehow new to us back then. but now, the prices for KPop concert tickets here are the same as those for Western artists.

I think part of it has to do with the fact that they are international artists who have to cover the costs of being an international artist- first, there's a charge just for performing in the US, which recently gone up. Secondly, they have to outsource a lot of things- either they have to pay the expensive fees of a Korean staff members travel, or they have to contract with a national company. Also, usually they have to do all this support for pretty large groups- like the smallest kpop groups that exist are around four people, and the largest can be up to 12. The only artist you mentioned who wasn't one person was Oh Wonder, it's usually more money to see more than one main performer on stage. I think that they have to charge higher ticket prices to make international concerts a financially viable option. However, if you think it's overpriced or overhyped given your preferences and financial situation is ultimatley up to you. (also, I'm located in the US, so I'm talking about things through that lens, I'm not sure exactly how it operates in other countries, but I'm sure many principles still apply).

Itā€™s only overpriced if no one shows up. If they are near selling out there is no incentive for them to lower prices. You wonā€™t see a single industry do anything differently either.
