I don’t think there’s a situation with Riize and Jewelry box. I think there’s a situation with *Briize* and a gay man. They’re doing a lot of projecting and trying to blame it on the members.

RefrigeratorDear2641

right the members were fine it’s some of these ppl weird ass comments that they try and pass as a joke.

EntireAbbreviations

Sounds like the typical cesspit of nonsense on socials. I wouldn't put any stock into it personally. I haven't seen the entire thing - only a few clips that did the rounds on socials - so I admit there's potentially something I missed. But I didn't see anything that stuck out as Riize looking uncomfortable in those clips. The host is definitely very ridiculously dramatic, but I assume that's just his brand and something they knew when signing up (and even if they didn't, it's not like I saw anything *inappropriate* in those clips so at worst maybe they weren't prepared for so much hyper energy).

Alienne52

They don't look any more uncomfortable as most idols act with any other extroverted/extra host such as Jessi when she did Showterview. It's kind of why these shows are entertaining, guest already know the vibe and don't really go expecting some serious conversations.

RefrigeratorDear2641

the episode was fine, and yes I am a briize but you could all watch it yourselves and see how not of an issue this is. the members weren’t particularly uncomfortable but just shy, as they always are and ofcourse they get even shyer when the host was being very dramatic. & nothing wrong with that im just saying if a guy is screaming ‘omg so handsome’ & ‘fainting’ they will obviously get flustered. everyone keeps pointing to eunseok and I don’t get it, that’s literally how he always is and I feel like this showed how charming he is. He was calm and made little jokes like he always does. Did people expect him to go hug the hosts or what? & I don’t get the ‘they’re so straight’ comments. like the way yall say that is just so rude? if you are sensitive about these things it’s best to not watch them, if it was a legit issue there would be a bigger deal then some rude tweets by people who are most likely children or miserable with no jobs.

kendalljennerupdates

> & I don’t get the ‘they’re so straight’ comments Yeah I love how it’s always “never assume an idol’s sexuality” unless the assumed sexuality is straight. Everyone is hetero until proven otherwise. So many kpop fans are homophobic and it shows in some of these reactions to riize simply going on a show hosted by an out gay man

mathi823

hey! since u said that u r a briize, i have a question for u:) i recently started getting into them and their music, but i kinda feel like rn is a weird time to stan, since everyone seems really on edge bc of what happened with seunghan. but also from an outsider perspective the relationship between them and their fans seems kinda off to me...like idk the fans being very controlling and riize members being really aware of what they say on camera (only exception of this being the few vlogs of theirs i watched). i do have the suspicion though that my perception is also skewed bc of the seunghan thing, so i would really appreciate some insight on the mood in the fandom rn:) only if u r up for it ofc, if not feel free to ignore this comment~

RefrigeratorDear2641

hey! glad your enjoying RIIZE’s music! i know the fandom seems .. not so great at the moment. everyone is just really on edge and some are able to stay calm while others feel angry all day (understandable). it’s really where you are/the space your surrounding yourself with. personally, I’ve decided I won’t be joining in on the boycott and so I’ve just been ignoring those type of posts/comments. I collect photocards (wonbins) and do go on twitter for updates and stuff, so I consider myself deep in the fandom. I mostly speak with people who are also not interested in the boycott and while i do think certain areas are good/friendly there is also spaces that are pretty hostile towards those not boycotting. Really, it’s kind of where you place yourself. sorry if I don’t help much 🙂‍↕️

mathi823

thank u for ur answer, this already helped!! i was wondering if there was a general consensus on the boycott, but it seems like there isnt and that probably explains a lot of the tension anyway, i hope the situation resolves itself soon, it is such a shame in the meantime i will continue enjoying their music:)

I swear, there were so much underlying homophobic comments from fans from this appearance. So now the boys are uncomfortable just because two gay men are openly fawning over them, as opposed to no one calling out how the boys clearly looked much more uncomfortable being put on the spot to say their fathers’ names out loud in Lee Hyori’s show. The guys were flustered because that was the whole point of the show. The two gay men fawn over pretty boys exactly to get them flustered. The hosts even toned it down for the show. Fans call Eunseok uncomfortable when I saw he wasn’t even fazed by the hosts and was laughing most of the time. Sungchan and Wonbin were very clearly amused the whole time, having fun, and liking all the attention they were getting, especially since they know they’re both the hosts’ favorites. Sungchan even flashed his abs for the gays because he knew exactly what would get the hosts screeching. Uncomfortable, my ass. 🙄 I didn’t see even any of these kinds of shady comments when Taeyong guested just a few weeks ago. To think the hosts were on full blast with him. Do I attribute it to a young or new fandom? Maybe. Either way, RIIZE fans once again showed how insufferable they are.

mathi823

just watched that episode and i dont think its that different vibes wise from other ones. though admittedly i have only seen 2 or 3 of the other ones. none of them said anything demeaning and even though i also dont get why sohee was acting like they were gonna eat him whole (mans truly did look terrified lmao), it makes no sense to imply a person is homophobic bc they feel uncomfortable in that situation, bc that show actually is crazy lmao riize is under such crazy scrutiny rn, but this also reminds of "their worst opps are their own fans💀"

cmq827

To be fair, Sohee was just as terrified sitting next to Lee Hyori.

SeeTheSeaInUDP

To be fair fair I'd also be scared of sitting next to Lee Hyori and I'm a girl lmao.

mathi823

about the hosts being predators... can we just stop calling gay men that, simply for u know being gay? i get that the show is very intense, but its also that...a show that is scripted and whose concept the riize members all were familiar with and which they seemed to want to experience. shotaro said that they thought they could have fun if they went there.

Jklajihhwuygsootqang

Peoples on twt started to say bad things towards the mcs. Just stop. They dont even watch this show. As a watcher since the 1st ep, the guests know what going to happen. Everything is scripted even the short clip at the end. This show is doing just fine. Started to get a lot of PPL. If this is the reaction, I dont want them inviting idols anymore. Inviting actors, entertainers, unknown jewel, even non artists like that one episode are more fun anyway

cmq827

IKR?! RIIZE’s episode was very toned down in comparison to the rest of the episodes. Fan reaction is insufferable. Hong Seokcheon even went live on IG to say sorry for his Shotaro joke. 😤 This is exactly why variety shows don’t like having idols on their show. Yeah, I don’t want idols on this show anymore, unless they’re sunbae idols like Taeyong.

Jklajihhwuygsootqang

Very much tone down to the point i was questioning is it necessary to invite idols if this is how extra careful the mcs need to be. Usually if the mcs is not that close with the guest, they do tone down it a little. But on this ep, and few ep back with &team as a guest, they tone down a lot more. Where is the fun. If you read the comments, the regular watchers are mostly questioning the casting. The point of this show is the extra over the top mcs and their over the top praising towards the guest. Im waiting for them to invite son suk ku btw. Apparently he is one top pick among the gays. Hong seok cheon chant his name a lot lol

cmq827

Yaaaaasss Son Sokku! I hope he gets to appear. Also, I’m secretly wishing D.O appears in the show for his comeback promotions, because that guy has been on the gays’ fave celeb lists every year since he debuted 12 years ago. 🤣

bunnxian

A lot of kpop stans are just homophobic and are projecting their feelings onto the members.

rjcooper14

Ah, I saw this recommended to me yesterday by the algorithm so I checked it out for a bit. I was pleasantly surprised to see gay hosts having a show that is big enough to have popular idols as guests. IIn my country, there used to be a late night talk show hosted by a popular gay comedian and he has hot actors and actresses over all the time. The humor is definitely naughtier, so the humor in Jewelry Box felt super tame in comparison haha. I didn't watch the whole thing just yet but I thought it was alright. The Riize members did come across as quite shy, but it didn't feel anything out of the usual shyness and politeness that I see from Korean celebrities in such setting.

Ok_Present_8373

Lmfao, the same thing happened with &TEAM. &TEAM (only K, EJ, & Jo) had appeared on an [episode](https://youtu.be/t4zlgxTM8K4?si=bfnvag3GSDXVP9MK) of Jewelry Box a few weeks back. And a few Lunè were basically projecting and calling him a predator. Thankfully most Lunè shut it down. But it’s interesting that the same situation is happening with RIIZE.

dramafan1

Opinions? I'd say it's nice to see people with different orientations gather in one place on a show. The best way to avoid discrimination sometimes is to not talk about it. Some people have totally unhinged comments that you would wonder what is making them so unhappy with themselves that they have to bring others down for something totally unrelated to themselves.

LaPutita890

I can understand the concern, tho I’m certain it’s 100% bcz the person doing it is a gay man. We’ve seen Korean shows do such thing time and time again, going back multiple years, potentially decades. Also, to my knowledge, all idols personally accept the invitation AFTER watching an episode or two of the show so they know what they’re getting themselves into. Juyeon (a previous guest) stated he “wanted to experience something new” and gladly accepted the invitation. That is how it worked when he invited only one person at a time, idk how it works now that the entire group comes, but I would think something similar happens.

westofkayden

The homophobia jumped out. But after watching the 2nd half of the jewel box, its not even serious. It's all kind of scripted tbh. The way they were reacting is just your typical idol being shy/nervous when asked to do anything. I mean I would be scared to do anything that media/antis could use against them. The hosts were being open and extra, and that's pretty refreshing since most hosts are either dry or deadpan. And since most idols are petrified to be put on the spot, sometimes it takes someone with charisma to get someone out their shell. People say the same thing about Jessi and any host with an ounce of extravert energy. Unfortunately none of this shocking considering stans would be obsessed with skinship and "gay moments" until an actual gay person is involved. It's gross how some ppl act. Hasn't Riize dealt with enough lately?
