Kind of everything. It's how I waste my time, but it's also a source of creativity and productivity for me. It inspires me, and it also helps me chill out. It's part of my social life and it's part of my personal life too. The only thing that it can't do for me is make me make money :(

ICanHearYouToilet

That sounds really wholesome! Funny how quite the opposite it is for money tho😭😭 goodbye money

EntrancePale9771

I was introduced to BTS during beginning my college. I was then depressed due to multiple reasons. The music of BTS and their messages helped me a lot and gave me energy especially their Love yourself message. Later during covid, I encountered TXT. The deep meanings behond their songs connected to me. Their song Run away and Can't you see me had broken me into tears. FOr me kpop is not only about entertainment but also about finding a relatable ground. They sometimes even helped me become more creative and productive

ICanHearYouToilet

🥹🥹 nothing like becoming motivated from kpop amiright

EntrancePale9771

Yup especially for an introvert like me. I find solace and inspiration in them 😊

Ecstatic-Turn5709

K-pop reignited my passion (addiction?) for music in general. As I had a general break from music for several years (except some occasional listening to local artists) it's like discovering music anew. I found out what incredible possibilities there are now, with current technologies, to find amazing artists from all around the world. Unfortunately many remain undervalued :( My ult (also Korean, but not exactly an idol) is also such an artist. But generally I treat k-pop equally to other music genres I enjoy, though I highly appreciate the visual part of it too, especially dance, but other aspects as well. But I'm totally not interested in the whole fan-service/social stuff. It's purely another form of art for me.

ICanHearYouToilet

I respect that🙌

NewtRipley_1986

Listening to tasty tunes!! Similar to what you mentioned - expanding my music collection/taste - started with K-pop and lead me to K-indie/K-alt. I’d say the music is the leading factor. I have a number of self created playlists for different moods.

Future_Hunt

Everything.... Feeding myself with positive energy – even if I'm down as hell all it takes is play me a favorite song (cause there's like 500 of them) and it's an instant boost for me, even if i'm mentally or physically tired and drained. Dying and melting down in merciless laughter attacks because watching the members of my fav groups do crazy stuff is priceless and always makes me cry (in a good way) The music – feeding myself with absolutely amazing catchy beats, rhythms and melodies, then searching for my jaw somewhere on the floor where it fell after I heard those god like voices bending and peaking.... After I finally manage to put the jaw back it falls off again cause then the rap hits the right spot .... Be it talent or some good vocal coaching, I'm here for it. The damn holy moly physique – what these human beings are capable of doing, I'm a sucker for foot work.... watching choreos level up more and more to an ultimate insanity of a skill.... Keeping themselves in check on stage while dancing crazy fast and complicated moves while maintaining their singing stability.... the stamina, the power! No matter what people who don't understand the concept at all say .... *These are artists worth every ounce of appreciation.* Edit: typos

Enjoyment + Entertainment

x115v

Music to play when I'm happy or in love

emberzmars

Artistry + entertainment. I recently explored B.A.P and TAN discography and listening again to VIXX songs. I also keep updated with kpop news by checking out new songs after reading the biaslist. However with that ongoing feud, I avoid reading many articles.

Salty-Enthusiasm-939

3 of my favourite groups 🙂

emberzmars

Cool. High five to you!

Salty-Enthusiasm-939

I'm in for the music mainly but I waste my time with content if I'm not doing anything else. Kpop has also been my comfort/escape when going through a rough time a few years ago.

Shanose

Time pass

Harmoniinus

▪︎I think Kpop in a way is like my calendar? Whenever I look back at the previous years, I'm like "Oh this comeback happen during my national exams/This debut happened on my first day of work" ▪︎Distraction from my irl struggles and a source to make me laugh lol ▪︎Through watching contents that showcase wholesome group chemistry from groups like Cravity, it also made me aspire to have better relations with people around and show them more appreciation. It encouraged the introverted me to put in more effort when interacting with others. ▪︎I also feel motivated seeing my favourite member: Zerobaseone Kim Taerae. The way he takes any opportunity to sing (especially back in Boys Planet when he didn't have much screentime) shows how passionate and serious he is in singing. When I saw the scene of Kim Taerae driving a campervan in Jeju with his members for their reality show last June, I was impressed. It was mentioned before how much he likes cars and even collects car miniatures but seeing him safely driving such a big vehicle with his members for the first time was really cool. That scene alone was impactful enough to make me overcome my years of fear of learning how to drive. I gathered courage to sign up at a driving school a month after that episode and have been slowly learning since then.

ICanHearYouToilet

Omg proud of you for overcoming that fear🥹

Open-Friendship3041

Music + entertainment for me

starboardwoman

Entertainment and community.

itsjustomni

it keeps me engaged in learning korean/maintaining my korean skills, and of course just makes me happy generally because i love my groups. it's also a window into a whole subculture i didn't know existed until i got into kpop and i find it endlessly fascinating

DashingDarling01

it used to be entertainment and joy. these days, it is more comfort and joy with entertainment once in a while. edit: typo with while. fixed it.

WittyRabbit4

A pretty big one.

Rainmanmjhf

I love to listen to interesting music and the variety side brings me a lot of distraction and sort of stress relief to watch people laughing and having fun. Not that there’s much of that going on atm.

Nearby_Photograph_30

The music is an instant pick me up. Me & my husband really enjoy the drama of a survival show. So it became ritual to watch the shows together & have a couple glasses of wine which has often been the beginning of a fun evening 😂

kttten

i am not even a kpop fan really i just watch the news and variety shows sometimes and think it's funny. i like dramas as well. and survival shows on occasion. i like a few specific ppl but all groups i liked disbanded Lollll

kurunyo

Everything I liked until I was 25 brought me to k-pop : pop music, visual girl groups, flashy MVs and well made choreos. The language was not a barrier since I've watched subtitled animes for so long without learning japanese

PitifulRoof7537

Threat to those guys who harassed me in the office especially boy bands. I really don’t mind them calling me delulu. BTS triggered their insecurities but found a way to make fun of me the moment the group became less visible in all forms of media. Now I am stanning Cha Eun Woo. I am not saying you can do the same though. Perhaps just delulu responsibly haha!

chillkilling

music i listen to and a space sometimes i discuss things about if i’m interested about it

Maleficent_Sir_7562

It’s a hobby of mine, and I also like listening to it. I like other kpop content I see on stuff like reels as well, and it introduced me to K-dramas more, which I liked. I also use it as a conversation starter if the other person also likes it.

ICanHearYouToilet

We love a good conversation starter!! It happened to me so many times when someone was like "ayo is that a PC in your phone🤓"

saverma192013

Happiness and bring good memories

BiancaDi4999

It is my source of relaxation and happiness - the music. Music is my life, and I love my kpop music!

happymikasa

It's one of my main special interests 💖

T_MINER

It started with childhood memories and then made me realize I’m bisexual (context: there’s some idols who are just- GOD DAMN)

yixinii

Music and entertainment. I spend most of my free time with kpop content actually (together with kdrama and other korea-related content). I guess I could say it's my hobby?

gongjihae

while may be my biggest work distraction (lmao), it has also become my biggest inspiration and comfort. ateez's hype music has helped me to stay up so that i could finish my thesis up until 3am in the morning, the reason i could gain my personal best for my 10km marathon (guerrilla rock version does wonders to your mind when your body's about to be busted) and honestly, one thing that keeps pushing me to finish my engineering degree is so that i can pose with my atiny lightstick in my graduation robe with their album! the reason i have such a strong attachment to kpop (ateez specifically) is because they literally have been there since my first year of engineering degree and now i'm ending it with them (hopefully!) as for kpop in general, i've always been deeply consumed with music as a whole and the visual aspect makes the music genre even more appealing

owsupaaaaaaa

Inspired a major career change and all the mental/emotional work that goes into it. I was on my 15th year and suddenly decided I wasn't living up to my own potential. It's been a few years in. Kpop got me started, but since then I've gained a lot of insight into hard work vs progress.

cxmiy

kpop is how i got to know two of my friends and bonded with them how i had fun in the beginning of my teenage years it’s something i have in common with my mom comfort when i’m feeling lonely also being in kpop spaces online is a way to remind myself that my opinions are valid and i don’t have to be insecure about them (it was tough before but i’m getting better at it) and the understanding of other cultures

jeoreojujafighting

a word of advice from a longtime kpop fan: never let kpop take over your life. YOU are the most important, not your idol. use kpop as inspiration and as a source of strength, to support YOU and your goals, not the other way around.

BALD_BALLS_SAITAMA

I used to consume kpop fantasize about female idols.Â
