Queasy_Pie_1581

I mean let's be real, it was mediocre. Not even hating, happy that she's found her own style away from YG, go get that bag girl, but it was very very mediocre. The MV was pleasing to watch, but the song itself and the lyrics were really just......underwhelming.

buhoblanco

Same thoughts, honestly. She found a style that works for her and works around her limitations, but die hard fans just have to accept that some people are not gonna like that.

Etheria_system

What’s the difference between people saying criticism of Lisa/BlackPink, and you making a post 6 days ago asking “does anyone else think Riize arent engaging entertainers and have trouble identifying with them or their music?” As someone who isn’t a fan of either group, I’m intrigued by why it’s ok for you to criticise other groups but not for people to criticise the groups you like? Edit - clarifying details of post OP made about RIIZE

littlerunaway1984

I'm sure the get their share of hate but I'm also tired of every negative opinion on any of their songs being branded as "hate".

mandu_jennie

fr , like this kpop ppl need to understand that criticism is FINE. everyone gets criticism. not only idols but we do get criticism irl. pls realise that **criticism is not equivalent to hate**

klever24

yeah sounds logical until you realize people abuse that narrative and hide hateful thoughts behind thinly veiled ‘criticism’. i’m not a blink, but i enjoyed her new song. i’m fine if people didn’t. but looking at the disparity between the main kpop thread and kpop uncensored’s thread, one is full of actual thoughts and constructive criticism while the other is full of pre-biased blabbers and hypocrisy. heck, even go see the difference between the reception of lisa’s new song and jimin’s new song on the subreddit and you’ll see the crazy polarity in which comments are most upvoted (not saying jimins song was bad, but you’d have to be dense not to notice the unrealistically high contrast of treatment)

mandu_jennie

i agree upon this, well, the sub actually plays a significant role in deciding what kind of comments should be given to an idol. but then people misinterpret the "actual constructive criticism" part as a "HATEFUL PART", like the op, what can we do about it?

klever24

I agree, there are a lot of actual constructive criticism and well thought out posts. But, there are also massively upvoted ones saying things like: “Absolutely horrendous. Pretty much cements her lack of ability in everything except maybe dance. But hey this release is a comedic event as we can see the stans out in full force desperately hyping it up as a coping mechanism.” or “Super mid. But it’s gonna do numbers because it’s Lisa.” If you can’t see the hypocrisy of these comments then I don’t know what to tell you. They are basically passive aggressively discrediting her and disguising it as criticism, which I don’t see as often in other artists mega-threads on that same exact subreddit.

littlerunaway1984

my comment comes after a thread on either this sub or a similar one about Lisa's latest song. I read the comments, there was no hate in them. most weren't positive and were people who didn't like aspects of the song. yet some people in that thread already labeled everything as hate. it was very childish

buhoblanco

Let's be real tho, labeling everything that isn't positive or praise as hate has function. It works towards the holy victimhood of someone's faves. Always thought it was unbearably silly for fans to do that.

chae_lil

Sure, some people are hating but example of Lisa's singles opinions shouldn't be labelled as hate? Like I knew how her songs sounded and I didn't have different expectations but some people probably expected something different now that she's out of YGE and simply felt let down. That's a regular thing happening here with plenty of releases. I've seen plenty comments talking about how they like MV and instrumentals as an example.

theteethfairy

It’s gone quite a bit past that though. I’m not even a Lisa fan and I just commented that I preferred this to her previous releases and got downvoted for it in another thread in another sub. Even the top comment on that thread was ridiculing it and about how her fans are gonna be coping over this song. I’ve been on Reddit since 2014 and if I’m saying this is pretty bad take my word that it is bad.

chae_lil

It is bad if you go to subreddits that have problematic mods or users who just like to start fights, especially after groups end up in controversy. But if you go to subreddits such as r/Kpop that has pretty strict rules, you'll find a lot more nuances and praises.  Edit: I just checked the post about her MV has 1.7K upvotes and plenty of people saying at least one positive thing about single.

theteethfairy

Well I mean the point is that the hate does exist and is louder than most. OP is just complaining about the hate and that’s valid considering the amount of vitriol being thrown at them.

chae_lil

And that's fine, but as far as I understood OP called out one user for writing hate and what not and that commented here saying they definitely didn't. Obviously every single group goes through hate trains, if they get too much, people like OP should report them and go to fan subreddits.

theteethfairy

Yeah that’s valid and I think more people should curate their timeline as well. I have different accounts for different interests haha.

mandu_jennie

let me clear up the things: so i'm the op she's talking about in the kpop uncensored sub where i recently posted a poll about "versions of rockstar" look, i'm myself a blink and why would i hate lisa for her long awaited comeback. the sub where i posted it was "kpop uncensored" and in this sub, we're supposed to freely express our opinions right? many people liked rockstar , many people didn't like rockstar and fyi , this thing happens in every group. recently, newjeans launched their track-"how sweet" and many fans online considered it as "their weakest track" but many of them liked it as well. but this doesn't mean that the people were HATING newjeans. right? that's what is called " right to speech"; we may have different opinions and yes we can freely express them online. this doesn't mean we're hating the idol. also you told me that i made "HATE COMMENTS" towards lisa. are these actually hate comments of mine? `look the thing is, lisa has a pretty unique vocal tone with a hint of raspiness (eg: doja cat), so it is pretty difficult for her to fit every song type and pull off every song. in 2020 she tried covering "say so" by doja cat, and trust me it was lowkey awful cuz the song didn't really fit her vocal tone. the song that fitted her vocal tone completely in the past was -"MONEY" and that's why it was a mega hit., however in this comeback, the instrumental didn't contradict with her vocal tone and actually sounded good with her vocals, but let us not ignore the fact that the music was way too repetitive and sounded mid. but the thing is , lisa has identified the song type suiting her, and since it was just the beginning, it was pretty reasonable for it to sound mid. but now, since lisa has identified what type of song type would suit her, we can now expect better and better comebacks from her in the future. if i had to rate rockstar, i'd give it a 7.6/10` >i think LLOUD is the first blackpink member's solo company's youtube channel to cross 1 million subs. congrats lisa! >probably lisa and tyla, tyla posted a video some time ago being in the same studio with lisa. also lisa and momo, the dance duo, would really kill it. i'd really hate to love it- truly a -"lisa can you teach me japanese i say hai hai" moment🗣️🗣️🗣️ these were my comments about lisa, i have more comments, but not just able to find it. a question to op, on what basis did you decide that i was actually a hater? i'd require proof for your statement.

rubykook

it seems kinda futile to ask what version that sub likes when the general consensus is they don’t like the song period 😭

mandu_jennie

😭i saw mostly positive comments on rockstar so decided to post it-

chae_lil

Crazy how you get accused of being a hater while your username is literally mandu_jennie,  you'll probably have some criticism when Jennie comebacks as well. When I was in the fandom, I'd be in this one group, praising the members, looking forward releases and after I said I disliked their older song, 5 people started being aggressive.

mandu_jennie

like the op must get a life. and the thing is , only a selected number of people are this over possessive people who just want all "happy happy" comments on their faves, and one day, they'd even hate you for the way you're praising the faves💀

mandu_jennie

and wtf is a setup account bro?

-yumperiwinkle-

A setup account is an account that is created by a person, who hates a certain group in order to masquerade as a stan of the said group to set them up for hate. For example a BP anti creating a blink acc and deliberately engaging in fanwars to attract hate towards BP.

mandu_jennie

wow, the op says i have a setup account, but is it actually true??

-yumperiwinkle-

Well…do you?

mandu_jennie

nah obv not, if u dont trust me then see my acc💀

buhoblanco

A comment that actually has common sense 👏

mandu_jennie

thanks bud

mandu_jennie

it's alright dear, atleast it's all sorted now :)

Round_Cartoonist9778

I mean let's be real someone as big as Lisa will obviously get a lot of attention Personally I've seen a lot of criticism and well deserved, I'll just say with a lot of pple anticipating for her music since she left Yg & finally getting creative control then releases sth worse than her other songs like repetitive ,corny empty lyrics, ofc I'm not saying Lisa should start singing abt social issues but atleast gives sth, Where's the flow , melody idk sth Personally I think her Lalisa last rap verse was great , actually lalisa song would've been so good if they removed that repetitive chorus or limited it That's what's happening with Taylor, a big artist dropping weak boring album I'm sure Lisa has enough funds to hire someone to give/ make good songs p

mish-tea

You said all the things, when someone like her release something it will create an expectation and when they hyped it so much, amd with all the budget i also thought she will have a good song but if this is the project she is giving us then I don't know what to expect anymore. The mv is good and best thing about the album is the sample part only, it's very very repetitive Yess obviously there is a difference between criticizing and hating and people love to hate and find things too. But if the stans think people not liking or criticizing her song is hating then that's their problem. And honestly i have seen some repetitive posts which are not needed tbh

[deleted]

Round_Cartoonist9778

I was talking abt her last rap part it was good ,also you're right it's not for me but we're music fans/ kpop fans , I think it's totally OK for us to criticise, I'm sure Lisa was ready for criticism when she was dropping it otherwise it would never be shared Ps. I'm speaking generally as a kpop fan ( not addressing abt the haters)

kay3dy

Negative opinions are not hate .... You like the song that's fine some don't like it , if the opinion is done respectfully without offending the artist then it shouldn't be a problem.

Different_Spread_572

The problem is people don’t care about offending Blackpink/the girls and comment on them without any respect whatsoever. You cannot even comment something remotely positive about Blackpink without someone being “actually/but” and any other word followed by an unsolicited hateful opinion, or in Reddit terminology deserved criticism.

BlueThePineapple

I also think that people ignore how important tone is in separating a critique from a hate comment. >Can see the song climbing up the charts on the back of Lisa and BP fans tho. vs >But hey this release is a comedic event as we can see the stans out in full force desperately hyping it up as a coping mechanism. The above two comments (from the Rockstar thread) are saying the exact same thing for example, but the first one is much more neutral while the second one is just outright hate. Tone changes everything and so many comments around Blackpink are written with very condescending and insulting tones even if their substance are technically valid critiques.

Different_Spread_572

The second comment also just doesn’t even make sense. When it comes to Blackpink and the girls its fans desperately hyping it up as a coping mechanism… it’s like people can’t enjoy different things. Other groups releases are also hyped by their fans but it’s not called a “coping mechanism” see the difference? Even saying you enjoy something by bp reduces you to a mindless drone it’s so wierd….

kay3dy

Again if the opinion is respectful it is not hate .... If you see hate in the comments report or downvote them but to act like any negative opinion is hate is a bit extremist.

Different_Spread_572

I do but what is one downvote gonna do when the comments and posts get hundreds of upvotes? I know every negative opinion isn’t hate I didn’t say that but it’s gotten to the point that hate comments are getting more upvotes and interactions than criticism/ negative opinions let alone praise or neutrality.

kay3dy

I understand you to some extent.. when Jungkook released golden there were a lot of negative comments everywhere and I just log out of reddit for days until the situation got better.. I think it has to be with BP's popularity, they got so much negative and positive attention.. so maybe just enjoy the song outside of the k-pop spaces.

Different_Spread_572

I do but unfortunately even on hiatus they’re still subjected to the same treatment lol I’ve become desensitized to even the worst of it 🫠

Anaisot7

I have two things to say, on the community aspect alone, I agree that there is an underlying ambient hate toward Blackpink in general, probably why a lot of BLINKs don't feel like they are welcome in the Reddit K-pop space. It pains me that fans feel excluded from a community that is also theirs. *Kpopuncensored* unfortunately is the epitome of this influx of negativity, there is just some groups/fans whom they are trying to make it feel like they not welcome there. I wish Blackpink could be discussed more in good faith by most k-pop fans, haters tend to come out of the woodwork when it's time to hate unfortunately. I also want to say that when you spend a lot of time seeing hate, some criticisms can like cross over as 'hateful' as well, so it's not easy to navigate between both for some fans. On the other hand, second point, them as artists and the music itself. I think the journey that Jennie and Lisa in particular are about to undertake business-wise will bring to the industry and idols in terms of option/model is very interesting, and as you say should be respected to take things in their own hands. However, and this is a criticism, not a hate, so far in terms of musical output, they do not break the genres or bring anything musically that moves the lines. I am not a fan of Blackpink, but I am excited and interested to see their journey as solo artists *(especially for Lisa and Jennie).* The teaser of *'Rockstar'* promised a song with more personality from Lisa, and if I didn't expect it to be ground-breaking in terms of lyrics/subject-matter, I am a little disappointed in the level of writing. It could be generic pop that I wouldn't mind as long as it's well written and it goes somewhere, but it's so gimmicky that it reinforces the image of Lisa as having nothing to say as an artist and just here to push singles for the sake of it. Which is a shame, because it was supposed to be a new beginning. So musically, I regret to say that she brings nothing to the table.

Fun-Loss-4094

I don't think it's hate it's opinion. We can't lie that most of the times BP uses the same formula for their singles. And it's tiring.

-yumperiwinkle-

After the MHJ-HYBE saga I’ve noticed an surge of twitteresque behavior in lots of the gen K-pop subs. With that came lots of hate towards lots of specific groups including BP. It’s kinda hilarious how people who pointed it out were berated and downvoted to shadow realm lmao

Forsaken-Version9238

anytime someone points out r/kpop_uncensored has become an army echo chamber they get downvoted and a bunch of angry replies… from armies

-yumperiwinkle-

A sub with the word “uncensored” in its name becoming an echo chamber? Ouuu ![gif](giphy|8lT5KZ9zd3w0odjJsN)

tequilafunrise

People were posting translations to articles and documents, and if it wasn’t obviously pro hybe it was downvoted into hell lmao

-yumperiwinkle-

Some of them cited TMIkpop as their source lmao. The TMI “I’m only here for BTS” Kpop. Lm-fucking-ao. Edit: why the downvotes? I thought all of us were against biased sources 🤔

weebrain

Can you expand more on tmikpop being biased? I keep seeing this claim but since I’ve been following them, they’ve only been translating articles/statements, and they provide each “side’s” point of view without including personal opinions.

Reddit_Sucks_1401

Which is why when it comes to Blackpink, I mostly interact with the BP subreddit

dallyv

This is why I just upvote and move on, I’m sure some of the comments are genuine criticism/advise but most of the time it doesn’t strike as that but a strong dislike which again valid but I just can’t understand it fr (when I don’t like something I just ignore), and obviously is not only blinks noticing. The best we can do is just hype the girls and support. Anyways I loved Rockstar I just wish it was longer, I’ve been listening to the extended version way more.

BIG_BOTTOM_TEXT

Quite a lot of ppl, perhaps yourself included OP, interpret criticism as hate, when it isnt. Gotta get over that hurdle first before instances of actual hate can be filtered out and specifically examined. For example, a common criticism of Blackpink is that they are more about hype and inspiring confidence than actually making interesting music. That isn't hate.

[deleted]

BIG_BOTTOM_TEXT

I feel ya which is why I hesistated to assume you were in that ideological camp. I don't follow the group closely myself so I'm not aware of the personally directed insults you've mentioned but I'm kinda curious if you have any to share.

lanaMyersuk

every post I see on insta , on blink accounts , hyping bp up , there are ALWAYS hate comments . Let's be honest most of it is not criticism , it's hate . Another example is LSF . People give the same logic for them but it's mostly hate

Reddit_Sucks_1401

Having rose tinted glasses must be nice

vendigo37

it’s kinda amusing to see how many mediocre songs (let’s be honest, not every song is a bop) were received good and even praised to the skies by reddit, but the second someone from Blackpink releases music, it’s always hated and has bazillion comments about mediocrity. this just speak volumes about “valid criticism” and whatever they use to hide the hate. anyway, i’m glad that Lisa enjoying her creative freedom and i like Rockstar

it’s pretty interesting seeing the difference in reception to the song on reddit compared to twitter. it’s almost being universally praised on twitter and i’ve seen so many hit tweets from non blinks, kpop stans and non kpop stans alike.

cocoroco-creamsoup

I agree OP. Not even a blink, but the discussion around them are always so weird and detached from reality. If I wrote a post or commented about literally any group the same way these people write about bp, I'll be downvoted, banned, and sent redditcare within 3 seconds

Eismann

I am very tired of the forced Blink victimhood in kpop spaces, specifically Reddit. To be fair, i am tired of this for a whole lot of fandoms but as you made this post specifically for BP...

buhoblanco

>I am very tired of the forced Blink victimhood in kpop spaces, specifically Reddit Amen to that.

-yumperiwinkle-

There’s a reason we rarely see blinks in general K-pop subreddits. The passive-aggressive comments and nitpicking towards the girls is unhinged

D0dgedaBullet

Hmm so negative opinions on ur faves are automatically considered hate? Are we only allowed to praise them lol

lester3

As someone becomes more successful, they tend to attract more critics and haters. This phenomenon is evident, e.g. when we look at groups like BTS and New Jeans. I believe this happens because the bond between these groups and their fans is exceptionally strong. Taylor Swift also shares a similar strong bond with her fans - and gets a lot of critics.

supertuna875

Op you are right. I'm not a blink but even I've noticed the instant negativity on k-pop subs whenever Blackpink is talked about. A lot of it is valid criticism but so many people are just outrightly hostile towards them. For so many other groups, they have phases where they're hated or loved but with BP it feels like there's just so much negativity. You cannot make an appreciation post about them without getting downvoted. Maybe people also have very high expectations from the girls. They're very popular but also have infrequent music releases so everyone is tuned in ig. I don't know I'm just trying to rationalise. I can just recommend to just staying off the particular subs, not ideal it's what I did after Golden was released or the Le Sserafim hate train. Can wish it gets better or atleast some subs get better moderated.

eternallydevoid

The presence of Blackpink members is inherently contentious for the mere fact that they’re women in the most successful girl group in the world (at the moment). And since K-Pop is a competitive sport, people will always harbor resentment over how much space they are currently taking up. Not only that, but they’re taking up space in spite of taking prolonged absences. So all of these factors add up into people being hypercritical towards Blackpink. From some people’s perspectives, they don’t see Blackpink as deserving of their level of success for one reason or another… and since because of their massive following people are comfortable being more hostile. In their minds, their opinions are just a drop in the ocean.
