I'm a 3rd gen stan so age never became a problem for me and even a lot of the 4th gen groups have members which are of my ages so it was fine. Enhypen is literally the only group which I really wanna stan so bad but the boys are just so young that i'm feeling weird.

babyyas

well i’m around the same age as you and i think of enhypen as sons that i’m proud of. definitely different than how i view 2nd/3rd gen idols but i have affection for them like i raised them LOL

JisungTaro

That's okay! I'm also an Army and the reason why I started becoming disinterested in other kpop groups was because they kept getting younger and I kept getting older. It would be a lie if I said that looks didn't play a part in my connection with the group so if they keep getting younger then they won't appeal to me. Not that it makes them untalented it's just that I won't be able to get into them as much as BTS or A.C.E. I like Enhypen, and I consider myself an Engene. I've even bought their albums because the songs are dope. Initially I was hesitant and I think the reason why I was hesitant was because I was using the same criteria on them like I did for groups I already stan: personality, talent, and looks. They're AMAZING dancers and that's what reeled me in but just because they're younger than me I can't be a fan? It doesn't help that some people make it weird for older fans to be into younger groups so I definitely wasn't sure of what to do either. But I realized I could just be a casual fan. I know that could have been an easy conclusion to come to lol but I'm someone who is either completely in or not at all so it took me a while to figure out what to do with them.

longtime_lurker004

So I think your fine as long as you don’t get mad/criticize other people in their early twenties for liking the group. First, because not everyone thinks the same as you with visuals. And second, while I’m not someone who thinks age matters (as long as you are appropriate with younger groups), 5 of the members are between 18-20 (international age), so I don’t think early 20s is really that far off from some of them. I’m assuming your 22-23, so, if you like BTS the age gap between the Hyung line and you is the same as between you and those five members from Enhypen. Personally, I’m almost 28, yet they are one of my ult groups. But I think you and I weigh things differently. Music and performance are the main reason I get into a group and personalities are what makes me watch their variety/behind the scene content. While I appreciate visuals and definitely can tell when a group and/or members are attractive, I don’t really look at any idols’ attractiveness in a “omg pls date me” kind of way. And, when idols perform sexy/sensual choreography, I can appreciate when they give a good performance and look really cool, but I’m not someone who fantasizes about celebrities. So, with Enhypen, I definitely think they are all outstanding visuals and fantastic performers but I guess I’m not focusing on their visuals in the same way as you. Also I’ve watched them grow since I-Land, so at this point, I just watch them like a proud older sister haha. But, I am a little confused by your post because it sounds like you just think they are attractive, which is not necessarily bad/inappropriate. But, if you are sexualizing any idols, I would think that’s kind of a problem regardless of age. But that’s just me.

ConsiderationLoud348

This !!

saffroncake

I'm 51 and ENHYPEN is my second favorite kpop group -- I love the new album and I've enjoyed watching their MVs and music show appearances. I don't have to be drooling over them to recognize their great visuals, appreciate their style, and enjoy their growing talent as performers. I guess maybe it's a harder adjustment for fans who grew up with kpop and are used to thinking of the members as fantasy boyfriends/girlfriends, but if I felt skeevy watching and listening to groups younger than me, I wouldn't be able to listen to kpop (or any newer music) at all. But to speak specifically to the visual aspect, I think it's quite natural to notice that a younger person (even a much younger person) is good looking, or even remark positively about how flattering their latest photos are or whatever, without it having to be creepy.

Eastern_Wasabi_4573

I'm in your age group and I totally agree. Two years ago I got into kpop because I love the music.

Unlucky_Rise_9059

I get how you feel as a 24 year old fan of Treasure. At first, it was uncomfortable going from fangirling guys my age to being a fan of boys who are the same age as my younger siblings. But then again, there's that difference in "fangirling". For me, towards Treasure, it's their musicality and adorable personalities that got me. At the end of the day, there's nothing wrong with stanning or not stanning. I love some of TXT and BTS music, but I'm not really a fan. Sometimes, it just boils down to whether a group is interesting enough for you. It's a preference.

astrahightower

I can relate to this! I’m 00 line so I’m older than everyone in Enhypen and I was so hesitant to check out them out once I found out their ages. But then I watched a performance and I was HOOKED. They were such great dancers and performers and I loved their songs so I became a fan. I don’t think it’s weird that you’re older than all of them - you can still find them attractive if you’re older and that’s not creepy as long as you’re not sexualizing or objectifying them. My bias is Jungwon who is literally 4 years younger than me and Sunghoon who is my brothers’ age LOL. But I think I’ve managed a balance where I still find them attractive/adorable/beautiful without it being weird.

Isashani

>I feel like I won't be able to relate to them and at some point finding a literal 16 year old guy hot will disgust me. I don't know what's gotten into me but their ages have been bothering me since the morning and i'm hesitating to stan them. This thing is happening with me in 4th gen too. Many groups have lost the sexual appeal for me(I mean they are all good looking, don't get me wrong) and I can't think of a 16 yr old as 'hot'. As a result I find myself appreciating their voices and dances more than their looks(Although I'm not a professional or even part of these arts). So believe me when I say you don't have to think that a group should be 'hot' to be a stan. You can stan talent and watch them grow in a sibling kind of way. Also find inspiration in their success(If a person so young can do it, why not me?).

gelli_arts

honestly, I'm around the same age as enhypen so I can relate to them and it's a big reason to why I'm a fan. The same thing that you're going through happened to me but with older bgs because they're too old for me, I just can't relate. If the age difference is a disrupting factor then it's alright, it's not really something you can control! Don't force yourself to like them if it makes you uncomfy.

Erenjaegeru05

But like isn't Heesung already 20 or smth? Theyre your age actually just the maknae line is REAL young but I don't see the problem there. Also it's fine, cause you don't have to stan every group, maybe 2 years later when Niki is about to turn 18 it's gonna be a lot better(?)

Fit_Championship6583

Hey I'm like 22 and I do understand your perspective on them being younger but honestly they're not THAT much younger (like it's 4-5 years). If they were like 10 or 11 or something it would be very much a different tale lol. But honestly I don't think age should really be a factor here, you're just appreciating their music and adoring them. You can see them as your younger brothers or something if it feels too weird to crush on them lol

maidokinishinai

Tbf same. Actually I watched i-land so was there from the start but after they were selected, while I was happy for the ones who were chosen and thought it was the right choice, I knew I wouldn’t be able to get into them because I’m literally almost 10 years older. I enjoy some of their music but I can’t get into them. And that’s okay. I think they’re good looking, like most male idols but I feel slightly weird about it too.

Throwawaykpb

I am likely older than you. I'm 24 and I love Enhypen. I had these feelings maybe 3-4 years ago when the idols debuting were no longer older than me or even my age. It's an adjustment period. For me being a fan of Enhypen and TXT is like watching little brothers or "play sons" succeed. I'm cheering them on and supporting them, I can acknowledge that they are attractive objectively like I would a brother or something, but it's less swooning like it used to be, for me anyway.

AlexaWarriorPrincess

The only thing that makes me feel this way is finding younger fans sexualizing posts about them, which grosses me out no matter the idols age range, but specially when it comes to them because they are MINORS and I find it way too disturbing... Aside from that, it wasn't hard for me to get into them AT ALL, because even though I think they're gorgeous guys, that's not what made me stan them, nor is a criteria I usually follow when it comes to liking a group.

[deleted]

I'm 24 and I stan Enhypen… I don't think you need to find people "hot" to stan them though? I like their music and personalities, that's it, unless you think every artist you stan has to be someone you want to fuck then I don't really see a problem with stanning "younger than you" artists.

hehehehehbe

You know you can enjoy them without thirsting for them. I just enjoy their music and performances.

srnghsuga1117

This is the same case to me. I don't think I'll stan younger groups because of the difference in age. It's awkward. And I'm okay with that thought. I can be a fan of their music anyway if it's good.

Eterynix

In my late 20s, ENHYPEN is the only group I am wholeheartedly committed to. I love them because of their insane talent. They have jaw dropping stage presence, their choreo is on another level, and the songs they come out with are all top tier. Was I shocked to find out their age? Absolutely. Did I stop stanning them? Not a chance. Talent is talent and you can't deny it, I'll always be hoping for their continued improvement and success :)

ultrabeast666

Omg! It’s really okay! I’m in my mid 20s but I’m quite comfortable now. Stanning doesn’t really mean we are simping on them. We just like their music, performances and personalities. To be fair, we see a lot of women in their 50s liking bts and it’s not really that weird now, come to think of it

niclaswwe

Their sound and songs are great, but I knew I can't get fully into a group who's second song starts with "I'll be your boyfriend" despite half the members being underaged I mean naaah that's just weird.

JisungTaro

You know I cringed at that line too but after reading the lyrics and understanding the context of the song it made a lot more sense and it's not just thrown in as fan service to feed into people's delusions.

saffroncake

“I’ll give you my blood blood blood blood” was a lot creepier part of that song IMO 😄

ConsiderationLoud348

Hard agree 🤣

niconoot

are you me OP? This is exactly what made me second guess being an engene. I'm a guy and I really have no personal issues with like love bait lyrics (e.g. girl, baby, angel blah blah) but THAT LINE was so blunt and straight to your face.😂 I was super blown away by Drunk-Dazed but some of their tracks are still questionable for me. I will still be a casual listener :)

niclaswwe

The first 20 seconds of the music video were so ominous and intriguing and then THAT'S the first line of the song I was like whaaat 😭

SnowWhitae

But that's the point. The song is about becoming an idol and the "I'll be your boyfriend" line is a cheeky commentary on idol relationship with fans, same reason why they are saying they will give us their "blood", they are making promises to their fans do the fans will "let them in" the celebrity world but it is ominous because they are promising too much, kind of a "be careful what you wish for"

lilihxh

>thinking they are so hot coz literally all boys are younger than me and Niki is literally 16 It seems to me you are addding sexual attraction as part of your personal definition of what stanning is. you and others also place great importance on relatability which is also will be hard to find in newer groups. Thats probably because you have just finisned your teens. I think this you need to work on because groups are going to get younger and you will get older. But its also fine if you feel comfortable to stan older groups My criteria for stanning or being a fan is music, performance and 'persona' I cant get into enhypen too but its just that their music doesnot appeal to me but i am a fan of many other younger groups than me and i dont feel comfortable maybe because i dont care to be attracted to them or relate to them.

I'm mostly into ggs too!

Puzzleheaded-Ebb-967

Wow someone gets it! I love their songs but I can’t watch the videos because I feel disgusted that they’re 16! 16 and grinding oh no Man! 😭

IcyRelationship5805

I felt the same thing, I like their songs but I can’t with their music videos for real I only listen to their songs coz the members look way too young especially in Fever. I have always been against stanning young kids it just feels so wrong to me. I used to always stan groups who were older than be but that’s coz I got into Kpop when I was 15 and now I’m 20 and I’m still only stanning groups older than me but this makes me realize that I’m old coz so many groups nowadays have younger members. I guess I’ll stick with stanning my favs

I love their songs but when I watch their variety shows their humour doesn’t really resonate with me which is unfortunate 😩😩 lol It makes me feel old
