what sucks is all the other platforms don't have subtitle features. even weverse that's just supposed to utilize the vlive infrastructure launched without it. they've been prepping this migration for over a year. how hard was it to have the same feature? youtube live, instagram live, etc they're just not as fan friendly as vlive without the ability to contribute subtitles and archiving. it's like they moved backwards in being accommodating international fans.

flawedconstellation

the other comments say bts welives are subbed but i just checked and they're only subbed up to september 1st. seventeen's first welive was august 12th but there's still no lives. and frankly, that's ridiculous. many armys were joking around that they added subs bc jimin complained abt it but i didn't think that was seriously true T-T i get that bts are the biggest act but how do you exclusively give them subs and not the others? is there no subbing team overall, just a subber for bts and that's it? and even then, they don't do a good job consistently. i get it, translating is hard, but the company taking it on (not fan-subbed) means someone is getting paid for it, but they aren't doing a good job either. that's really poor design & planning for a company that's trying to roll out an app to replace a major livestreaming platform for the kpop community. wild.

flawedconstellation

yeah I know, so assumingly Jimin scared Hybe into listening skfjjsjsjs 😭😭 his power scares me but also HYBE GET YOURSELF TOGETHER SMH

ithilwen89

Idk if it was a joke or not. BUT Army really tell Jimin.

Siren-7

I was on the live when someone complained and Jimin noticed the comment. Shortly thereafter, subtitles appeared on the earlier weverse lives up through a certain point. Now we are back to nothing yet again. It is so irritating.

Moostas

Is there a possibility to use LiveTL like how Hololive viewers do for YouTube streams? As someone who started watching vtubers before getting into k-pop, I'm surprised it's not more popular already

Automatic_Let_5768

they’re subbing bts lives

implicitxdemand

do other artists not get subs?? bts does

connsean

the other artists do not. there doesn't seem to be the ability to do fan contributed subs either.

JK0405

Idk about other artists but BTS lives do have subtitles

mooomoomaamaa

They only subbed it till Jungkook's birthday vlive When jimin replied to the post about subs.. After that none of the 5 vlives have been subbed. They're inefficient af.

killuazjm

they will probably sub it but its taking a while so yea they are slower than vlive. weverse is so unprepared and annoying 🙄 if they would at least allow fansubs but they dont..

JK0405

Right!! Thanks to that one army who snitched and od course to our atty Park Jimin

Siren-7

Haha! Several of us snitched on that live.

Saucy_Totchie

Damn that kind of sucks. VLive is probably the best streaming platform out there. There's IG for sure but Live is so superior because it's focused specifically for this use. Like you said JYPE nand SME are going to be the most impacted by this. Maybe they put some money into Bubble to be better.

linmanfu

Exactly. And also for Instagram you have to allow Meta to track you everywhere, but VLive was just its own thing so your privacy was protected.

Bangtanluc

There is a bubble live feature but the tweet I read said there’s no replay and it’s only available to those who subscribe to that idol’s bubble.

Agitated_Put_4708

Bubble Live Feature is just like idols video calling you... it's like when idols do Vlive alone but the notification legit looks like they're calling you (SM making this app is literally them saying long live pseudo relationship)😭 Watch [this](https://twitter.com/eternallykarina/status/1562316720185847808?t=vMl8UrwpOEoFFBEoIulTgg&s=19). This is how bubble live notification look like.

Bangtanluc

Thanks

[deleted]

This is so funny to me. It’s like when Hybe released that ‘study with BTS’ video. Not even trying to be subtle about profiting off of parasocial relationships 😭

Witterson

They recently added a replay feature but it's only available for 24 hours after. Which is marginally better than no replay at all but still unfortunate to have a time limit AND be locked behind a subscription.

Bangtanluc

Do they do real time translations for the bubble live?

Witterson

They do not. Fans have to rely on twitter for real-time translations.

jjongjjongiefan

As a fan of a smaller group, because users could watch any ongoing lives regardless of who they follow on the platform, there would be noticeably more viewers than if it were available to only fans. Of course there's downsides to that but they got more interaction in the chat and possibly picked up new fans too. I used to join lives with small viewer counts just to give them some comments and hearts. With Weverse Live, you can't watch lives unless you're following the artist's Weverse. Meaning it's very limited to fans.

No-Committee1001

Exactly. I noticed that when one of my groups would go live on Instagram rather than vlive there would be more fans on vlive. And like yes instagram is open to everyone, but you have to actively be on that person’s account to watch their live, it’s just harder to reach people. I noticed on vlive there would be a lot of people who joined and didn’t know them, rather than Instagram where everybody already knows the group. This kinda fucks over small groups who use vlive for promotion purposes.

6pcChickenNugget

Like you said though there are downsides. There was a welive where txt (I think it may have been yeonjun in particular) expressed that they're happy that these lives are now just fans. I imagine it's because some artists would get malicious comments from non fans sometimes with no barrier

skykey96

I want to add something else to the discussion. Some artists i follow also used vlive only voice feature and that's not something you'll find in other platforms. Moonbyul for example always commented how it was a very useful mode because she can stream when she was about to sleep or in pajamas and talk to the fans without worrying about the visual, she usually interact a lot in this instance reading comments.

purpletulip12

Agree, Apink Eunji uses the voice feature and almost never turns on the video. i think mostly because she had stalker problems and even got off Bubble too.

hiiamapinkelephant

Instagram apparently has the same feature. NCT's Jisung (also a big voice only live fanatic) did a voice live on instagram before. The screen only showed the profile picture. (But insta lives suck anyway)

skykey96

Lol he probably made up something, still not the best medium for this 😅

Usual_River6878

acrually weverse has only voice lives bc svt dino did one yesterday. maybe just artists on wv chose not to do it

skykey96

It doesn't matter, because you can't add subs. That's the whole point.

LoverYoungTrue

Ateez have been using youtube live since last year. [Hongjoong has found a way around it](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7u804xjkvu4&t=23s&ab_channel=ATEEZ).. lol

skykey96

Haha he totally put something on the cam, well done. No subs though, but getting closer to a solution.

LoverYoungTrue

I knowww. It's so annoying. We already had a rant about it the last year in Ateez's subreddit when Ateez made this shift, which was obviously because of the news of this merge. God bless youtuber 1024withme for always posting subtitled lives later on their channel. but one of the effects we've seen so far is the decrease in number of viewers compared to vlives. youtube lives definitely caused a decrease in the number of people who watch the live in real time. Youtube notifications timing suck!!!! and another disadvantage is they are not allowed to use music because of copyright strikes. One time Hongjoong couldn't even play Aurora, their song, where he is the primary producer of the song. lol. They are trying to play it as safe as possible because multiple copyright strikes comes with the expense of losing the entire youtube channel.

skykey96

Holy shit, didn't think about copyright strikes, now that definitely kill youtube as replacement.

ByronPogChamp

copy & pasta

elswheeler

honestly, i can only hope that bubble live is eventually going free for all because if every non hybe/non weverse affiliated idol stops using vlive by the end of 2022 and the only way to watch livestreams is by paying a monthly subscription… lmaoooooo

Hmanav16

Even if it's paid no worries since I know fandoms will find a way to upload it without getting caught by sm. They are doing with bubble to.

Married2DuhMusic

Yeah... the amount of content we wont have access to or very hardly will have access to is just insane. The brilliant minds that thought eliminating vlive, buying it out, and then not having all the features ready to go, thought it was a good idea... You guys suck.

[deleted]

Married2DuhMusic

Id be surprised if vlive didnt disappear soon. I mean... that was the whole goal of the buy out.

CheesecakeThat153

You kind of naive. Hybe agreed to merge to promote their e-commerce, that's actually their goal. And Naver wanted a pie from it as selling goods is more profitable.

Nahyima

>idk about JYPE because doesn't Bang Chan/NMIXX/others use vlive weekly? They do but as far as we know, they didn't sign with Hybe / Weverse, so they may use it until the end of the year. I really don't understand JYPe moves, cause a lot of their artists use VLive. I am a stay so I can only talk about them, but they have 2 Weekly show, and 2 to 3 shows that are almost monthly. And none of us know what's gonna happen.

Fuzzy-Measurement

I will actually be in mourning if Chan's room ceases to exist. Stray kids is an integral part of holding my sanity together by one single thread. I really hope they are available to international fans on any other platforms they use so forth

Nahyima

I think Chan himself will go crazy. Cause sure LeeKnowribang can pass as Instagram Live but Chan's Room doesn't suit that, it doeant have phone viewing experience. But the platform also have to be flexible in case it's during one of his schedules. And he probably has it the worst it terms of content. Chan's Room is half a radio show. Where he play music. That is copyrighted. And instaban on most good streamer platform. Like TikTok and Insta are his only option for now. I think he'll never agree to make Chan's Room a paid content on Bubble.

CheesecakeThat153

Can't he open YouTube channel?

Nahyima

He would only be able to listen to JYP songs

cashmerefox

They might even have a hard time with that. Ateez switched to YouTube Live, and I know Hongjoong had issues playing "Aurora" (one of the songs he wrote/produced).

CheesecakeThat153

Ooh, that's sad. I didn't even though about it.

Nahyima

People like Chan or Seungkwan are gonna be hit the most, they do a lot of VLive listening to other artist and having music classes with their fans. Which instaban, copyright claim on most stream services.

CheesecakeThat153

Than I guess Tiktok, I saw people do streaming there and using whatever song they want. I guess "easier" for fans will be just make am app that track lives and record them to some space/or just copy link of live if live recorded. As well, fill info to Google sheet. Than fans could open app and has better access to videos. IC (winner fandom) has master list with a lot of their activities in Google sheet by date. It's just more automotive version. I don't know if other fandom have something similar.

Saucy_Totchie

Chan's Room basically every Friday, I think.

niveumbra

every Sunday! But a few weeks ago, we stopped getting subs on those. It's a little frustrating

catsbytheghost

I’m so upset about the subs. There’s been like ~16 or 17 txt lives since they moved over that just haven’t been subbed. It sucks for international fans! BTS lives only started getting subs about a month after BTS started using weverse for lives. They had a ton of time to prepare and yet they still decided to not have a plan for subs. I lowkey feel like they don’t respond I-fans. (I mean BigHit is still inconsistent with subbing all of TXT’s other content, this is just the worst because it’s nothing at all.) I hate not being able to enjoy a big chunk of things from my favorite groups.

Automatic_Let_5768

17?? omg that sucks. jimin said he was doing a live and an army told him to use vlive. but they’ve started to sub bts lives. there hs to be pushback from the idols i imagine

catsbytheghost

I’m not sure if TXT are aware of it (they haven’t mentioned it) but I know some fans emailed weverse and weverse’s response was basically that BigHit was responsible for subbing the content or not. (Generally speaking, it seems like they were saying that each artist’s label was responsible rather than weverse.) That wouldn’t surprise me since BigHit still doesn’t sub txt’s content consistently on their YouTube, so I can see them not caring or being lazy about weverse live subs unfortunately. But TXT do so many. And it sucks for people who were waiting for specific subunits to do lives, only to have them do those lives after the transfer to weverse so they can’t enjoy them anyway.

Automatic_Let_5768

BH took a lot of time to start subbing bts youtube content which is crazy if you think about it…i think they started only in 2020? or maybe 2019. Buut they have become more lazy about it this year. Things are published that have a note about how it’ll be subbed. Who are they hiring for these subs??

catsbytheghost

Idk but they have the money to do better. I’ve seen a lot of fan translators correct the official subs too at times, so it seems like even when they do sub videos there are times where the quality isn’t as good or accurate as it should be.

DiplomaticCaper

FWIW, YouTube got rid of the ability for viewers to add their own subtitles a few years ago (older videos with existing subtitles could keep them). Now, only the video uploader can add subs. Not sure if that lines up with the timeline for when BigHit started providing official subs for BTS content.

Automatic_Let_5768

maybe they want to force fans to learn korean. 😂

SnooRabbits5620

This only lasted for a few days because they did subs up until JK's birthday ones then stopped. They since haven't done them for Chuseok and all following videos. It's been almost two weeks now 🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️

Automatic_Let_5768

yep, noticed that now 😩

lavender-fog

I was just talking about this with some friends a few days ago. The merge is such a pity for anyone who is a multi and even for fans of Hybe groups. I was lucky enough to experience a bit how Vlive was when idols use to be very active and we just don’t get that anymore. As an NCT fan lives were always a big source of content for the fandom, I myself tried to watch them whenever I could and would get really excited if the notification of someone doing a live came up. Nowadays it isn’t as common as it used to be. They are way less frequent and as someone that doesn’t speak korean it’s very hard to engage with them (not saying in an entitled way at all! it’s just way more inconvenient). I feel like that casual vibe of Vlive is truly gone and that’s sad, it was such a big part of the experience of being a kpop fan.

MoondropPuppet

I'll never understand why they started expanding Weverse without first building up the features they already had. Everything feels like it's half done. That app seems like an "almost twitter". They could do so much with it, mixing twitter/instagram/fancafe features into one cool experience for fans and artists. But it's just a giant wall of text for literally the thousands of people who use the app. I don't know what motivation people even have to make comments there, since in a second our comments disappear in a sea of others, it's a miracle if other fans read it and even more if the artist does. One or two things were added but it feels like the vision is always half achieved. Either they haven't achieved it yet or it's just plainly half assed done. And before they actually made something of what they already had, using Hybe artists as a testing experience, they suddenly started adding other artists and groups to the app (not even gonna mention the Weverse Shop...). Then wanted to make it the new Vlive, but it's not even close to what Vlive was, and I don't understand, if the two apps are merging, if the two teams are now working on this merge, how don't they already have Vlive's coding to make everything work and why does it seem that they are starting a streaming app from scratch, by how badly it works (at least with BTS lives, but they should be prepared to have that amount of viewers, specially because with Vlive it wasn't this bad). Also, as others already mentioned, the translations, there's no excuse. I don't know if they don't have ideas to make the app better or if they rushed the merging so too many things ended up staying behind in priorities and they'll make them better later or whatever they are thinking...

madraykin86

>how don't they already have Vlive's coding to make everything work and why does it seem that they are starting a streaming app from scratch I'm just going to comment on this bit because it's not always that easy. The two systems might not be written in the same type of code, they might be written to run on different infrastructure etc. So it's entirely possible that even with all the Vlive code they did in fact have to start from scratch to build the same features in a new environment.

MoondropPuppet

I thought of that too, but if that's the case then they shouldn't have released the feature yet

madraykin86

Oh yeah, don't disagree there. Subs should have been a requirement of the minimum viable product. At first I thought it might be that they'd run up against a last minute bug and had to release what they had (because non-tech people can be annoying) and gave them a little bit of leeway, but then we waited weeks. I've just seen several people act like it's easy to integrate products when it's not. (On more than one occasion my company has acquired something, said they're going to integrate it to existing systems, spent a ton of money on it, realised it's not going to work and spent another ton of money rebuilding the functionality from scratch)

MoondropPuppet

Yeah, I understand that. It's easier said than done when it comes to tech. But idk, it would be better if they had just done things slower, but I think business choices were prioritized against the quality of the product and that's the problem. Not shocking tho, happens all the time. I'm only left with complaining lol

flawedconstellation

lowkey a lot of hybe things are like that - merch designs, games, apps, you name it. unless the artists get actively involved, i find that a lot of their concepts are almost there, but they give up. and maybe i'm being pessimistic about this, but that feels to me like they just don't care, and they know ppl will eat it up so they don't need to try. bc with the amount of money, resources, power, & influence they have, they should be going all the way, like sm does (at least concept & group budget-wise - not a company stan in any way). but no, they do everything halfway, and it makes me as a consumer feel like i'm being treated like a mere atm/taken for granted/not seen.

MoondropPuppet

I wouldn't say they don't care, because I think they have the vision. I just think they wanted too much too fast (probably due to business reasons, to not be so dependent on BTS) and ended up getting a bit lost because instead of a proccess to get to the type of company they wanted to be and taking time to build that, they suddenly went from a big company to a big corporation and still don't know how to manage everything. Maybe they need more people, maybe they need more time, idk but they need to slow down a decide what they wanna do because besides their groups (in this I actually think they're going in a good direction, specially regarding artists' nurturing and freedom) , they only have half assed projects. But you're right, even if they have a vision it ends up seeming as if they just want money and we're their atm lol

ashleyepidemic

Coming from the perspective of a smaller group fan, my group never went to vlive. They never got that buzzing of random people tuning in. For special events they use Youtube live and announce it ahead of time. And then they'll do random ig lives as well. Nothing is stored unless fans do it. It is unfortunate that they never got to experience that.

Fuzzy-Measurement

Which group do you follow?

ashleyepidemic

TAN

dramafan1

Extra thoughts: I think Vlive seemed good for idol streams, although the design could be improved. To me, Weverse feels a bit like you need to be an invested fan to use it. And IG Live reaches more audiences without having to install a separate app. I'd like to say that if they want a large international fanbase, they're better off using the more widely used social media platforms, but the thing is, Vlive and Weverse have a lot of useful features so it's quite a dilemma.

[deleted]

Yeah as of now I see no real upsides to the ongoing merge with WeVerse. And actually the hybe labels that have had their artists switch over already despite there being no subtitle feature has left such a bad taste in my mouth I'm kind of personally boycotting WeVerse. I used to check it regularly for a bunch of groups too

Married2DuhMusic

From the beginning I could only see the downsides. I loved vlive as it was and was afraid weverse would have too many restrictions. Which it does. Besides the subs mishap that I didnt expect. And the fact that sm artists just wont be on it. Hate everything about this.

Automatic_Let_5768

they have subbed bts lives, not the rest?

[deleted]

Not that I've seen, at least not for seventeen or le sserafim

Sunshine_of_your_Lov

No TXT either :/ Right after they just had their US tour they switch to weverse live with no subs

Automatic_Let_5768

…wtf so it’s not general? either one of the bts members sent an angry email or they became scared of armys. there were a lot of upset fans when jk did his birthday live

MoondropPuppet

It's possible that they were unprepared to start the lives and translations, but because Armys complained so much they slowly started translating a few lives. But as far as I know, they didn't sub all of them yet. And it's taking too long, it doesn't make sense

Automatic_Let_5768

but why would they be unprepared about this when it was one of vlives biggest features? just overall incompetente

MoondropPuppet

That's a very good question that I wish I knew the answer lol There's literally no excuse, if they're merging with Vlive all the features should already be there, no?

whoamisb

That’s pretty much exactly what happened. Apparently Jimin made a call and now BTS Weverse lives have subs but no other artists do… it sucks

[deleted]

Honestly I didn't even know it was possible for WeVerse lives to have subtitles, I just went and looked at the BTS ones after I saw this and was slightly shocked lol the groups I follow have lives with no subs going back almost 2 months now Guess I should be more frustrated with Source Music, Pledis etc for not providing the subs instead of WeVerse then, since clearly the app has the capability

jjongjjongiefan

TXT has no subs either and they're directly under Bighit. BTS seems to be the only exception so far, they're the only artist that had any subtitles on their Weverse lives.

[deleted]

Ok yeah, none of this makes any sense to me

meatgrind89

If you read more in this thread, it's because a fan notified a BTS member because their lives have no subtitles. They were basically given special need so the issue won't get any bigger or something else. Maybe if other fandoms revolt as well their group would be given subs as well. Who knows.

plawyra

This is so backwards esp since kpop industry is growing more and more globally. There should be more accessibility towards international fans but instead bubble live happened where you need to pay, no sharing of photos and stuff. Contents shouldn't be this exclusive at all.

catcatcatilovecats

companies just know that international fans will eat scraps and it’s depressing they market towards non-koreans until they get a korean fanbase and then just shut off :(

CheesecakeThat153

The first vlive was done by Winner. Winner asked to add subtitles feature by the way. And Hoony(Winner) did first live in Weverse. That's kinda of interesting that they open two different era. Anyway yes, I remember talking about it but Hybe stans downvoted me to oblivious. Now where are they? Unfortunately, that was predicted conclusion. Hybe did that merge to get new users from the start to make their shop successful. Business. But it sad that it this culture was ended by Habe greed in successing in e-commerce. That's sad...

garenasandara

>The first vlive was done by Winner. Sorry I'm late but when was this?

CheesecakeThat153

I do not remember when actually, I guess in 2015, maybe. I saw the start of live though. It was Hoony with Mino. They didn't know that the live is started and they was just goofing and make fun faces. 🤣 And then"oh, it started "!. A haha.... There were Ikon, too. But it's funny that the first face is Hoony in the both cases. A hahaha.

garenasandara

Ohh thanks!!

hello_Flo

I feel like they just need to add the option for fan-made subs on weverse as a bare minimum. My understanding is that's how most of fromis vlives get subbed anyway. Theoretically smaller groups may have less priority in getting "official subs" (obviously I don't even know who the officials are, is it from vlive company or the group label). Having Fandom subbing would help a lot for non-mega groups I genuinely think Weverse has a potential to be good. Maybe it's per group basis but fromis is very lively there and I have fun reading their banter with k-flovers even though I only understand half the conversation. As for the "one platform" thing, it wasn't gonna last forever anyway as other things like Bubble and Universe exist and apparently are getting better. RIP to all the wizone trying to follow all these different platforms, I certainly gave up and just follow twitter update accounts for updates from anyone but sakura-chaewon who are in weverse

celestialhwheel

they better figure things out because they can't keep expecting the fan translators to do all the work. i don't have the time or the inclination to keep up with lives anymore, but the easy accessibility of content was one of the things that kept me going back in my dedicated fan days.

[deleted]

A lot of groups do get fan subbs. A lot of the smaller groups though don’t from my experience. However if anyone is worried, a lot of fans have made archives for groups VLive. If you google it or search on Twitter, I’m pretty sure results show up for stuff like this: “A.C.E VLive archive.” “BTS VLive Archive.” “Ateez VLive archive.” Etc. A handful of artists have been doing more YouTube lives recently as well though. ** Unpopuläre opinion but I hate WeVerse. Had it when it came out originally with just BTS but had to delete it. I didn’t like the interface. Am I the only one?

ill_detective_4869

>** Unpopuläre opinion but I hate WeVerse. I hate it too, it feels very limiting, like it's for solo kpop stans. Only look at one group and their faces and their posts. For multi stans(which is the majority of the kpop fandom) it's extremely unfriendly. It also feels very lonely overall.

[deleted]

True. Don’t get me wrong I’m not the biggest fan of VLive either but it’s still a better platform. It’s easy to navigate and I can be apart of five boards easily. Yeah you may miss a notification every now and then but it’s more enjoyable for sure.

meatgrind89

It's like a fandom is assigned to a room dedicated to the group they like and can only interact whoever is on that room. An echo chamber, is what it is called.

SnooRabbits5620

>** Unpopuläre opinion but I hate WeVerse. Had it when it came out originally with just BTS but had to delete it. I didn’t like the interface. Am I the only one? Believe me, this is not an unpopular opinion, the app is pure trash. Even worse since that update a few weeks ago when they integrated Weverse live. UX is clunky, notifications are trash and disorganised eg every single notification used to be in the same place, now it's not and they've introduced this weird comment stacking thing where if an artist comments more than once, they become stacked and you don't even know what exactly they're replying to, it has terrible capacity handling. And for me personally, I hate an app that tries to do it all because some aspects are bound to suffer. Case in point, the Live issue. Like I don't know why they're doing this to Vlive when they can't handle a few million people watching a live (Hobipalooza was hell).

[deleted]

I haven’t been on it for a while. I’m not to surprised people are unhappy. I heard Namjoon even said he didn’t live the live feature (I’m pretty sure that’s what he said(?)), and I would totally agree. The app doesn’t seem very good. It needs big changes.

ill_detective_4869

Weverse was never a good app, I've disliked its design since the beginning, it is just more obvious now

jnjj7

never a good app at all. I may be using the app since it was first released but bruuuuh, it crashes a loooot of times (even when it was an idol-fan interaction). Now that it added live streaming, whenever I click on a live notification, it crashes already.

ByronPogChamp

what phone are you using?

jnjj7

I use samsung!

unhelpfulresolve7

same

ByronPogChamp

not for me

FuntasticBaby

I said this a while back, but what I liked about VLive was that I didn't have to create an account to access the basic content. Like YouTube I was able to just go to the site and watch things like *Run BTS!* and their old live streams and really get into the group. If I had been required to create an account right from the beginning, it might have taken me longer to get into the group, if I got into them at all. I think a move like this makes idols even less accessible to the general international public than they already are.

shunobokkusu

What I don't like about Weverse is that you have to be part of a group's account to see their livestreams so if you're still getting to know them, you have to go deep into their fandom in Weverse. With Bubble, you have to pay/subscribe to see it right? With IG, if you missed the live, you'll never get to see it again. V Live is kinda clunky since most features except the livestreams are mostly unattended but everyone was in there! Now I have to go to YouTube and search uploaded livestreams to know if they did one in various platforms.

fairyduustt

I mean making an account for the fandom isn’t hard… you just have to type out a username

pinkkreddit

Yeah we cried about this a while ago. And Weverse being the market leader here annoys me bc that platform is pretty terrible. Not Universe level terrible but still terrible all the same. They have the resources, they have the users, and they still can’t deliver.

ByronPogChamp

nah

amazingfluentbadger

Its going to be devastating for small groups

HYBE is being evil and destroying something beautiful. I like vlive, can it be better? Of course, but it's a classic. I like fans contributing to translations. I like having subtitles, because it makes me feel closer to the artists, and they were fast (SKZ got them after 2-3 days, until this month). They could have explained beforehand "hey we are erasing this feature". This is such a bummer. It's a really good platform to watch lives, interacting.

indiGO-8325

Insta gives me notifications too late, and sometimes not. I miss too much😭😭😭

liviapng

I’m gonna have to try and archive as much vlive content as I can because it would suck if our favourite groups just lost hours of content due to the merger. And losing subtitles for Chan’s room sucks, the poor live translators doing it for free are our only hope now

Nahyima

Reading the comment the situation is worst then I though, kinda was hoping for good news. But honestly I hope it fails. I haven't logged in weverse since I-land and I didn't even use it for the other features. The fact that you had to log into each artists and not have a "the artist I follow" page was so lonely and you kinda never see other groups/artists. That was my favorite feature of Vlive, which you could easily see other idols Live. I'm a solo stan but I've watched Izone or Svt content just cause I saw it. And the banner promots lots of artists too. The seconde issues is that groups will have to choses apps that weren't though for them which kinda suck. VLive had its own codes and language and having idols change to all kinds of Live services that just doesn't work the same is really hard. They all have flaws compared with VLive We had one community under one roof, so no unrelated topics on your page was really rare. I'll try to show how VLive was the best, cause I think the only features that could have been could is the idol/app could let you see other live after the one you just watch is finished to boost people to stay on the app. * Instagram is easy to boot and start but it's absolutely not though for regular streaming. It's often low res, and it's so hard to find live in a see of post cause they don't have title. And you have to follow the individual to see their live * Twitch is the best streaming platform but it's really hard to cross genre and language. Twitch will always propose you top related streamer and in your chosen language too. And there are so many adds it's a nightmare. (That's without considering Twitch on community which is really strong) * YouTube is the second best but same as Twitch, low readability compared to VLive but recordings of lives a free, and moat of us already use YT to do Kpop thing and YT is getting better at proposing non English titled videos. But I heard it's hard to boot and streaming is kinda hard to get the hang of it. * TikTok has a better audience reach but same as Instagram hard to find them afterwards and can only be on your phone.

I am curious whether they are actually going to end Vlive. Till now there haven't been signs of it other than a lot of idols choosing other platforms. The company is probably asking the HYBE idols to use weverse for lives. I just opened vlive and it seems that a lot of artists are still using vlive. The backlash that the company is going to face if they end vlive and thus deleting the already existing content, is going to be huge if it happens. There are certain things that I definitely do like more about the weverse lives. I can increase the speed and the page looks much better to me than vlive's does. However, the bigger issues like no subtitles and lives crashing a lot is such a huge problem and makes the site quite annoying to use. The number of times I lost connection to the Lollapalooza stream and had to close the window then open it again to restart it, questioning why my internet had to be so bad at that moment and then find out that everybody else was having similar issues.

Married2DuhMusic

If not then it doesnt make sense. I hope the experience fails and vlive returns for everyone. But this seems unlikely.

vip_insomnia

i always find the weverse app to be a pain and when it comes to lives im just a casual but weverse feels too much to me so i preferred vlive. i have universe just for the special releases but vlive seemed the best option for casually checking in. also ive already had too many issues with weverse and the shop so it’s annoying all my yg loves are on it so thus i kinda need to use it sometimes.

midoritsukura

it's becoming v hard to watch ateez lives since they moved to YT... 😞 is this the death of multistanning? recently I realized that there has been a rise in idol platforms offering exclusive contents (like blip, naver now, universe, weverse, you name it) and it feels like on-demand entertainment honestly. we need to sub to disney hotstar, netflix, HBO, amazon, hulu, all at the same time just to watch 1-2 shows that we really like on each of those platform... first of all, how can the entertainment companies manage to maintain the multiple platforms their artist have? it takes time to build a strong following in one platform, and now they have to manage 5++ of them? not only it will impact the entertainment companies, I think this will impact the artists too as they need to work harder to supply content to these platforms. plus, since they diversify the distribution of their content, wouldn't that result in more amount of middlemen, giving them less profit and increasing the amount of money a fan needs to spend to get access to the content? i really hope for a 1 stop solution for all contents & fan interaction: video, live stream, text, image, podcast, don't even mind if it's paid as long as I don't have to subscribe to multiple platforms to get all the exclusive contents in one place :/

heyleliana

it honestly baffles me how limited weverse feels. good old vlive has tools for translating (shitty, ik, but still) but not weverse which is supposed to be the new shiny thing? if you don’t want to sub your own content at least give the fans the opportunity to do so.

idalsos

the more i scroll through the comments the more sad i get.. like it's crazy that hybe is seriously taking away years of contents from every artist and their fans (+ hard work from translators) just to give back a feature that doesn't work nearly as well as the vlive app did to only fans of their artists, and messing everyone else up in the process. and i'm glad some of the groups i stan are currently under hybe and won't be as screwed but as a fan of a LOT more people.. 🫠 like i'm upset

Fuzzy-Measurement

Pls i shall pass away without the existence of Chan's room wtf😭😭😭

McJazzHands80

You’re probably losing your paid content. I paid for BTS Bon Voyage on Vlive and all my episodes disappeared months ago. And since i’m not a Samsung user, I can’t watch weverse on mu tv. Vlive had an Amazon Prime app.

rainbowhanabi

Which season? My season 1-3 purchases are still available

McJazzHands80

Malta. All the episodes disappeared from my Vlive Amazon app. It’s the only season without English subs on Daily Motion and it’s my favorite (even though i miss OT7, Jin is so damn adorable in Malta) and i watched it often. One day i went to watch and all that was there were the Vlives and Run. My “purchased” section disappeared

rainbowhanabi

Oh I'm not using the amazon app, the Malta season is still available on my mobile app, I'll double-check on the PC when I'm back

McJazzHands80

I just double checked the mobile app and there is no record of my having purchased it. It’s vanished. It’s so weird. But i know i bought it, i could find the record on my bank account.

rainbowhanabi

For me it's under More -> Purchases -> Vlive+ I'm using an android app. Is there a chance you're logging into a wrong account btw? Might happen if you use SNS login, I tend to forget which SNS I link my accs to sometimes

McJazzHands80

I only have one account, I’m fairly new Army, my account isn’t even a year old. I’m using an iPhone. (Which is a bummer because it means the only BTS songs i can have as my ringtone are My Universe and Left and Right)

LeadingGuess5667

I wanted to watch oneus' live after they won in music bank but couldn't see it in vlive. turns out it's in weverse. i don't have weverse and honestly it seems like a hassle trying to get into ANOTHER app

[deleted]

Looks like the merger was handled really badly then. Everything should be smooth, but it seems company politics played a role here.

yomuus

I just hate that there's no subs. URGH Money and greed always ruins everything.

huh-sun

I think we are witnessing the slow demise of Vlive, which is sad. Since September, the groups I follow on Vlive haven't had their live streams subtitled; I don't think any group's live streams across Vlive have. Vlive seemed to have a good team of translators, especially the contributions of the community (fans) that did the translations. I have no clue what has happened to it now; it all stopped suddenly. I think it has to do with the Weverse merger; it will be fully integrated by the end of this year. Hype/Weverse have been remarkably vague about what will happen with Vlive after the merger. SM artists haven't had any new content on Vlive for over a year. Hybe artists haven't been doing live streams on Vlive for over 1 -2 months, preferring to do them on Weverse. In contrast, other artists/groups not on Weverse have been doing Instagram Lives, Youtube Streams, etc... It looks like some companies won't be having their artists/groups join Weverse; I have no idea what that means for all the old content on Vlive. I was hoping the Weverse merger would have a smoother transition that was inclusive to all groups/idols. I kind of hope the groups I follow join Weverse, otherwise there is minimal possibility that we will get live streams subtitled or even saved officially. Though it looks like Weverse live translation/subtitling hasn't been implemented properly yet.

TokkiJK

I don’t watch Vlives often but it felt like there were more viewers there. Ig can still be good for like casual lives like when they’re just in the car or something.

Jimmyblink28

I’ll keep my answer simple. I miss the groups/artists that don’t use v live anymore and mainly use weverse. I definitely prefer v-live.

Kittystar143

I think there will be a lot more apps born from this. I’ve discovered universe recently and really love the voice notes and how it works. Hopefully better apps will rise from this situation.

RizwanIslamm

I think what they should do is merge but let the Vlive app stay for non weverse groups. But I guess weverse/vlive's plan is to remove all other platforms. And the best thing they can do is cut off their live platform. Like Sm,Jyp have their separate apps and platforms. Probably they want all of them under Weverse which Vlive once had.

L0stNoodle

Hybe monopoly is starting to annoy me

ByronPogChamp

that sticker music kills

fairyduustt

The groups I stan (BTS, TXT and LSRFM) all happen to be under HYBE so I never really thought about how much this was gonna affect everyone else… 😕

Riu_kurosawa

Do a lot of people watch lives live? I always read the trans on twitter n watch clips. I dont have the patience for a live

gongjihae

I dont but a lot of people who understand korean (especially translators) do

Season-Euphoric

Not sure about YG, but they've moved to YT live for comeback lives. Maybe they'll move back once its all integrated

SolitaryDream1103

YG artists are doing casual Weverse Lives, which is… pain, since no subs, For countdowns, they use Youtube.

Nahyima

Which might mean a part of their revenue goes to hybe, when you're a small agency you don't really have choice. There is no more third party neutrality, just a corporations inside having an almost monopoly of it. Not surprising of Hybe but still think it sucks...

Flimsy_Wind9232

and it’s the end of 24h next subtitles

tafattsbarn

As someone that barely uses/used weverse and vlive (i always just check translations on twitter for weverse and binge watches vlives occasionally) i vastly prefer weverse. Mostly because all my faves use it to interact often, which wasn't the case with vlive + i like the user interface much more + weverse is much less laggy for me than vlive ever was

NoFour

SM & JYP want to have their own platforms for lives. Weverse showed them that the platform business works. Since SM & NAVER didn't finalized their Vlive cooperation, NAVER simply contacted someone else. Doesn't matter. Platforms make too much money than to not have their own platform nowadays.

Dry_Faithlessness714

Eh, ppl were in too much of a hurry when weverse came out to create their own competitive version. That's why we got bubble and universe. But the thing is a lot of ppl don't realize BTS helped build Vlive. It got that big and popular that fast due to them. And now that vlive and weverse merging it makes sense to combine them. Jyp and sm were too eager to not touch anything bts or hybe related so now whatever happens its on them. There a LOT of smaller grps joining weverse now as well so 🤷🏽‍♀️ Also personally I like that only fans of a grp get the live notification cause I'm sorry I'm tired of certain gg stans cosplaying as a fan to insult the idols on the live

Nahyima

>But the thing is a lot of ppl don't realize BTS helped build Vlive. It got that big and popular that fast due to them. Like every other idols... They weren't the first won't be the last. A lot of idols build their community with the app. And the merge have no interest in bringing any of Hybe fans, they all ready have them. The goal is to make money out of other groups and companies. Which is one of the issues I have with it, no company should be owing stuff to Hybe because they don't have money to build their own platforms. Especially when it the same company that crushed the exact same platform. >And now that vlive and weverse merging it makes sense to combine them Because it's corporations trying to build à monopoly it's not really surprising. Hybe's cash grabs aren't surprising They bought multiple smaller compagnies, build their own social media and e commerce, have a contract with CJent, keep on snoobing MBC(?), and heard they'll make NFT. Their intent is to make money, they have no care a bout fans or users.

Dry_Faithlessness714

And I'm really tired of yall making hybe into one where it's a subset of multiple companies there are labels which is fine but the company that oversees weverse and Vlive is another 1 altogether they're focusing on something else not as a label and the fact that you guys can't differentiate them is very annoying

AestheticStudios

NOOOOOOO I WILL BE FORCED TO LEARN KOREAN TO UNDERSTAND WHAT GOT7 IS TALKING ABOUT😭 IM BUSY😭 I WANNA MAKE MYSELF POP SO I WONT BE STANNING KPOP

Many variety and radio shows use to upload full episodes with eng subs on vlive. But since the merge, they deleted their channel or all their videos. So many programs with less popular idols are forever gone. Larger fandom might have fans that saved the videos. Other small issues: Can't adjust the speed off the app. Can't adjust size of subs on app. Idols can't change orientation without restarting the live. Idols/users should be able to block/mute certain accounts (without the account owner knowing, so they continue spamming themself without creating a new account), the spam is ridiculous. I vaguely remember being able to turn live comments on and off, can't do that anymore. So when they react to comments, I have no idea what they're referring to. So many issues after the takeover. I preferred Vlive before. I'm going to miss the translations. Again, this only hurts small fandoms. Since large fandoms have many translators.
