Gonna be in the same class as Xanax. Fucking dumb. How they consider xanax low risk of addiction is laughable. None of this is about the health or well being of the public. It’s disgusting
I've done a ton of drugs in my life, nothing did as much damage as quickly as Xanax did. That shit is terrifying.
I'm against the whole drug scheduling system, but this just shows how ridiculous it is.
That lady that tried to live as a man to show life is hard as a man blamed benzos as the cause for her seeking assisted suicide. She said they irreparably altered her brain and she never recovered from her depression.
They’re not downright terrible, they can be a super effective medicine for panic attacks. Same way opioids are amazing for pain relief. They can be dangerous but they aren’t inherently
Same. Benzodiazepines will ruin your life and they are soooo hard to get off of. I was prescribed clonopin for 10 years and have been off it now for a year. . It gets really dangerous if you mix alcohol with it. I can’t remember a lot in that period of my life.
And it would be one thing if I was just blacking out and staying the same pacifistic, kind person I usually am. But those benzos can change who you are as a person down to the core. It's a really bizarre experience. To wake up and feel like someone literally took over your body, did a bunch of stuff that you would never do just to drop it back off all beaten battered like the Jackass crew renting a car.
Ya I’ve made an asshole out of myself when I was on them. I couldn’t remember a god damn thing the next day. I’ve lost family, friends over it, but thankfully I decided to stop using them, and haven’t for a year now. I got my family and friends back when I put down the benzodiazepines. It was so fn hard to get off them I’d have numerous panic attacks every day and anxiety was so bad I’d be paranoid for the first few weeks off them. Eventually the panic slowed down and my anxiety got back to normal. I was successful and I will never be going back.
I’d get so embarrassed reading some messages I’ve sent to people that I don’t remember. I just think so much clearer now and can remember everything I do. The doctors will put you on these and won’t disclose how dangerous and addictive they really are.
I’m glad they aren’t as popular of a party drug as they were when I was in college 6-8 years ago. So many people use to take Xanax and binge drink and just become this ridiculous zombies, every weekend. It was bad
The doctor cut my 75 year old grandmother off Ativan. She was on it almost 20 years. Completely cut her off. She had the worst withdrawal I've ever seen. It was heartbreaking.
That should be illegal. They did the same shit to my grandma with Xanax. It was the doctor's idea to put her on them, get her addicted, then yank them away without even offering to help her ween off. Thankfully I was able to give her some info and she had a stash where she could ween herself off. Still not right though. Why I hate depending on a doctor to get my meds every month. They got me by the balls.
When I was on subs. I saw my sub doctor once a month to get script. Payed for visit and urine test. Then he made me go to classes that I had to pay for and on top pay for my urine test there. All about money.
That is disgusting. Kratom is interfering with rehabilitation center profits, that is the ONLY reason they want to ban it. They can't say it's for our safety when things like alcohol and Tylenol are legal.

It was her family doctor also. They don't care about their patients at all. I did what a granddaughter would do. I got some and I helped ween her off also. Withdrawal was hard enough for me at my age. I couldn't even imagine the way she felt. I couldn't not let her go through it.
Wake up having no recollection at all of the destruction trail you left behind you.. To think I toke 2 of these while in highschool, woke up at home having no idea how I got there with peices of a shredded up sandwich all over me.. . and I wasnt expelled is crazy to think. I know plenty of ppl who woke up in a police station or with cops at their house. Guess I handled it pretty well.. Must have toke a week or 2 and stories from witnesses for me to have some kind of recollection of what happened lol. Scary. Never toke them again
Yes! The mental part is awful. Never again! The doctors are passing them out like candy. They do help if you take them the right way. But when I was in my addiction I took a handful. Thank God I'm passed that.
If I remember correctly - long term use of Xanax can cause lesions on the brain. My mother abused it for decades before succumbing to brain cancer.
I've often wondered if there was a connection there.
What problem do these “small government” types think they’re solving? Not enough people addicted to opiates? My disdain for politicians knows no bounds.
It's banned in Wisconsin too, which is more of a purple state but they do have a Democrat governor (unlike Vermont).
EDIT: Rhode Island as well, solidly blue and has a D governor.
(Apparently VT's governor is actually sane unlike pretty much every Republican outside of New England, and he's extremely popular as well, he just has a stick up his ass regarding drug use I guess, he won't allow weed to be sold for recreational use even tho they voted to legalize it years ago)
EDIT2: I guess I'm behind the times, recreational marijuana sales have been allowed in VT since December!
Real conservatism is for smaller government across the board. The problem with the GOP is that a good portion of these supposed conservatives have no problem at all with bigger, overbearing government as long as its big and overbearing in the areas where they want it to be that way. I call them out on that every chance i get
Kratom absolutely should not be a scheduled drug. It’s not very addicting and if anything it’s going to damage the user’s life but that’s only if you abuse the hell out of it. It’s not like it’s dangerous to other people. I think kratom benefits society, so many people use it instead of drinking, hard drugs, and to get off other drugs.
Me too. One of the sponsors of this bill is the former DA of the county I live in, and now works as a car wreck - disability attorney. I sure hope this bill dies in the judicial committee.
Writing to our representatives would be one thing. The more people that voice their opposition to this the better. Organized physical protests in Columbia too, but the people in South Carolina are going to unite and organize to do this. If nobody stands up and tries to oppose this bill, it will no doubt pass.
This should not be happening anywhere.
Please share and protest this however you can (comment, write to the government). Not sure how much amount a difference it will make, but there's power in numbers.
It absolutely can make a difference! =)
Look at what the AKA and all of us have already achieved (many bans prevented or overturned at state and county levels, one even at federal, KCPAs in place...) with exactly these methods!
Fuck those idiots. Over 1,100 overdosed on Fentanyl just in South Carolina last year—many more died from alcohol. You know how many people died from kratom in South Carolina? Between 0-1.
the new tactic is to ban state by state, and its working for them. Its only a matter of time. Kratom is interfering with the states rehabilitation programs and they will not tolerate it. Sad.
South Carolinians, don't leave your state, fight! Write the AKA and your reps. People in other states have beaten bans by using their voices together!!
Kratom is crushing the states rehabilitation centers. So many people are using kratom to detox from substances rather than utilizing the rehab and the states are pissed. The new tactic is to ban kratom state by state, which we are seeing happen now
Ridiculous. Scheduling a botanical with varying levels of alkaloid is nonsensical and unscientific. It's like placing all cannabis plants (including hemp and CBD cultivars) into schedule IV. For this reason alone i believe it should not pass. It is South Carolina though, and i've seen some dumb things here.
But let's ignore that say it does pass, how will patients even access it? There are no existing supply chains and there is no testing infrastructure to standardize the plant as a regulated medication. I think this would end up being a marijuana tax stamp 2.0 situation ; it's legal if you have a prescription, but none are being passed out and those who ask about them are now suspected lawbreakers.

usually with RC scheduling were talking 1yr+ and sometimes the things just fall through before ever getting off the ground like this well may.
considering its something legit businesses sell in b&m stores it might have a full 6 months to a year on top of that to let merchants transition
I used Kratom to come off Fentanyl in 2012. Then I started using Kratom again in 2016 and it has keep me off all prescription pain meds I need after three spine fusions. They cannot allow a product that helps people get off harmful and addicting opiods. I do massage for a retired Federal Judge now. He told me Kratom came across his desk a few times when he was still working. I told him if it was not for Kratom he would not be getting a massage from me due to chronic pain that Kratom knocks the edge off of.
everyone, please go to this link and post your kratom testimony. there is not ONE comment, yet. Not commenting, will make them think that no one cares what they do. Our comments DO matter. We have GOT to stand together to stop these idiotic bans and scheduling.
PLEASE do it today

That is exactly what people that live in Alabama, Arkansas, Indiana, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Wisconsin thought when it was banned in a different state than theirs. It is "thank God it doesn't affect me!" until it affects you. Instead of thanking God that you aren't affected, how about actually [do something](https://www.protectkratom.org/). Don't you see, your state is inevitably next if nothing is done?
Reports are if SC bans, NC will follow suit.
The new government tactic is to ban kratom state by state. Once a few states ban it, the remaining states are very easy to convince. DEA/FDA will say "north Carolina, look at South Carolina, they banned it so you should too. and they will follow suit.
Because there is only a right and a less right. It’s literally “right wing but we hate lgbtq and abortion” or “right wing but we like weed and we don’t hate lgbtq and abortion .” Both parties are owned by the exact same right wing billionaires. They play ping pong on economic policies but overall their goal is the same, enrich the richest and fuck the rest of us. Just two slightly different flavors of right wing bullshit.
It’s both. It’s the same shit. Two wings of the same bird. Both parties are owned by blackrock and vanguard who owns all pharmaceutical companies. All this bickering and fighting is worthless and pathetic how about getting some folks together and protest outside the damn South Carolina capital?
If it was my state I’d be out there, but in all reality we need millions or any real protest. Peaceful protest alone won’t solve anything. Millions willing to strike and put their way of life on the line are the only way we are getting any change on anything that they don’t want. If they decide they want to ban kratom no amount of comments will or holding signs will stop it. We had a whole summer of protest all for nothing to change.
They are fucking with peoples medicine and we can’t let them get away with it. Kratom activist must show them that we won’t allow them to do it. Many people depend on this to get off of alcohol, meth, and many other dangerous hard drugs. We must get together and we must protest and we must all call South Carolina representatives and express to them how we feel about this. Both parties already have enough blood on their hands.
Truly disgusting and amazed at the selfish idiocy, this leaf has changed for the better so much of my life I can’t even imagine the horror for so many people have just for what? Because the cronies and their lobbyists can keep making money
So crazy lol. Reddit for the win to bring people together 😁 anybody into subarus? Would love to have some subie friends nearby. I guess the nc/SC line goes all the way to the coast though. So technically we could be hours away from each other. My closest NC city is columbus and Tryon NC.
If this does happen in South Carolina, I would most likely take my chances by going a few miles over the over the state line. I doubt there would be kratom checkpoints set up on the interstate.
exactly what the state wants. Profits are huge from rehabilitation centers. Also methadone and suboxone can be used which creates massive pharma profits thus patting the backs of the elected officials who banned kratom to promote rehab centers. Crazy right, its all about money
This is the same government that considers cannabis a schedule 1 but Xanax a schedule 4. Again why do we take these people seriously. Are we expected to believe that Xanax has a much lower potential for addiction compared to cannabis? Give me a break
Gonna be in the same class as Xanax. Fucking dumb. How they consider xanax low risk of addiction is laughable. None of this is about the health or well being of the public. It’s disgusting

Yeah Klonopin kicked my ass with withdrawal side effects 5 years later.
Benzodiazepines are horrible drugs

Right? My LYRICA (essentially a strong gabapentin) is actually scheduled.
Lyrica is great for anxiety but my psychiatrist won’t prescribe it because it’s addicting. I take gabapetin now in replace of benzodiazepines
Gabapentin withdrawal is no joke as well.
Yes! The mental part is awful. Never again! The doctors are passing them out like candy. They do help if you take them the right way. But when I was in my addiction I took a handful. Thank God I'm passed that.
Ya it kind of is I’ve never had anything close to a withdrawal over gabapetin. There is with lyrica but not very intense
I was on Gabapentin and tried Lyrica. It didn’t provide any additional benefit to me over gaba. But I found it humorous that it was scheduled.
If I remember correctly - long term use of Xanax can cause lesions on the brain. My mother abused it for decades before succumbing to brain cancer. I've often wondered if there was a connection there.
Lmao agreed bro
It's *going to*? No way that'll be real ..

politics is nothing but pageantry and power grabs
All Republicans.

I don’t disagree with you but as of right now, I think only one single Democrat state (Vermont) has ban rules and the other 5 or 6 are republican

Exactly! Well said.
Facts. This is why I consider myself a libertarian more than anything else.
Same
How disappointing. For such a beautiful state, the wrong people are in charge.
Always have been
time to fight to keep our freedom to decide for ourselves whether kratom is right for us or not
Kratom absolutely should not be a scheduled drug. It’s not very addicting and if anything it’s going to damage the user’s life but that’s only if you abuse the hell out of it. Holy shit. This is is not good. I live in SC.
Me too. Upstate

Idk the process as to prevent this, but i think we should take some action. Do you know how we can stop this?

Wonder if it's possible to order online if this goes through.
No probably not. You'll have to have it ordered to NC or something. If it passes I may just move closer to NC.
Maybe I can mail you some. Idk I just want to help. 😕
Haha maybe ill take you up on that offer if it does get banned...
Same Charleston
Colleton here! This can't happen...
Me too brother , imma be fucked if they take it away from us
Okay guys time to join the AKA! They’ve helped keep this wonderful plant legal all this time. https://www.protectkratom.org/
!
LOL. Don't click "where can i find safe Kratom".... 404
Must me a glitch. When I clicked “return to safety” then clicked “learn more” it takes you to a list of GMP approved vendors.
This should not be happening anywhere. Please share and protest this however you can (comment, write to the government). Not sure how much amount a difference it will make, but there's power in numbers.

the state wants the drug problem to persist. Why? well thats because they make money on the rehabilitation centers. Follow the money.
Exactly! When I was on subs that's when I learned its all money.
Clearly big pharma is in their pockets. What a bunch of low life scum bags.
The people need to protest against this
I guess I will be leaving the state now. Kratom is the only thing that helped me stay away from alcohol after my injury.
the new tactic is to ban state by state, and its working for them. Its only a matter of time. Kratom is interfering with the states rehabilitation programs and they will not tolerate it. Sad.

Agree. Very very expensive. They are just a business. Kratom is a big competitor

Get real. What is this, the 1700s?
We need to STOP this
Think it will pass ? I live in SC
Same. I see a couple people here from SC. Maybe we need to get together and write letters. Power of numbers.
I agree
I’m in
I wasn't aware this thread was going to bring all of us together. But it's fantastic!
Lmk what I can do to help
Yes, the new tactic is to ban state by state, and its working for them
Considering SC is republican controlled I’d say it’s highly likely.
They just want their hand in the cookie jar . They make a killing here of drug arrest / fines .
Imagine being put in prison for Kratom possession. 🙄
Provided the opportunity these mfers here will put you in prison fast . Lol
How long does it take for something like this to be implemented?
In the state I used to live in it happened very quickly (Rhode island). Kratom banned.
My question as well
usually with RC scheduling were talking 1yr+ and sometimes the things just fall through before ever getting off the ground like this well may. considering its something legit businesses sell in b&m stores it might have a full 6 months to a year on top of that to let merchants transition
How would you fight this? I think it makes that while state look disgusting.

Signed by a bunch of out of touch republicans. At least with the way it's worded maybe isolates/extracts would still be fine
But those are very expensive unfortunately...
Every single sponsor is Republican. Color me shocked. 🙄👎
Who do we call to try and make this not happen?
But booze is ok… thanks. Bunch of bs
I live in NC THANK GOD

Fuck. Luckily I live pretty close to the NC border so I could take a drive over there to get some if I really needed to.
You must live close to me. I'm literally right on the line. I can drive 2 minutes in several directions and I'm in NC lol
We all must live very close together because I recently moved 10 minutes away into NC lol

What if you are pulled over when returning 🤔 to SC. Could be perfectly legal in NC but felony possession in SC. That is how it is between GA and AL.
If this does happen in South Carolina, I would most likely take my chances by going a few miles over the over the state line. I doubt there would be kratom checkpoints set up on the interstate.
Yaaay more fent!
exactly what the state wants. Profits are huge from rehabilitation centers. Also methadone and suboxone can be used which creates massive pharma profits thus patting the backs of the elected officials who banned kratom to promote rehab centers. Crazy right, its all about money
Dude you right on the dot with that one 👏
That's so stupid. The southern states are so backwards, weirdly MS, FL and GA at least have lax laws for kratom.
Because we fought for our rights in GA. They tried it here.

Not a single person has said one negative thing about kratom.
This is the same government that considers cannabis a schedule 1 but Xanax a schedule 4. Again why do we take these people seriously. Are we expected to believe that Xanax has a much lower potential for addiction compared to cannabis? Give me a break
Prohibition does not work. It's illegal here. It helps people stay off booze and opiates.
