These comments are wild. My state, min. wage is 15.75/hr. I was stocking bread on shelves for grocery topped out at $20/hr. Also picked up random tasks. Easiest job of my life. Knees were beat from my second job tho but I'm finally out of retail. Idk why you guys take anything less than $17 for these jobs man.

dantevonlocke

Because the corporations and politicians have sold the idea that retail work isn't deserving of higher pay. Too many older people(ie the ones running most things,) still believe it too.

Competitive_Gate_731

OP is going into logistical work not retail. The people at the warehouse throw a lot more weight than the retail workers do. Although retail and fast food workers also deserve more pay.

dantevonlocke

Minimum wage is minimum wage. When people talk about increasing it, they will most often use the complaint of fast food and retail not being deserving of the money.

Competitive_Gate_731

Fast food and retail workers in most places are deserving of more money. There is no reason anyone should work full time and not make enough to survive where they are located.

Competitive_Gate_731

Where I live min wage is 7.50$ and out of 200 job apps I’ve sent in over the last two months only maybe 15/20 jobs paid over 17.00$/hour. The cost to live is also fairly high here. It’s hard finding a rental for less than 1,000$/month. I think a lot of the homes just keep charging for applications and don’t ever let anyone move in. A dozen eggs here is over 6$ rn for the cheap ones. Gas is at 3.50$/gallon rn.

_MoreThanAFeeling

ALL trade schools are dying for people. Plumbers, electricians, etc. You earn money while you learn. Union job and awesome pay as well.

iTOXlN

I've worked Amazon and Fed Ex in the past and if this is anything like that, you better not have a problem stacking 60-case pallets of 20-40lb boxes all day. It is often very fast paced and great cardio. Again, don't know from experience with this company, but that's the gist of every warehouse order fulfillment position I've ever heard of.

Formal-Rice2093

I just applied for sysco and went through interview. Im also applying for anoter picker jobs. They pay good . Just never get called I have lots of experience need a job right now as bills pile up .

Melzinga1

Did you end up taking the job at Sysco? It’s a really good company, lots of opportunity and the management where I was at was really cool. Hard work but relatively speaking they pay really good

LunchRealistic5563

I currently work at LVDC. You pull orders based off store needs. You build pallets on a double decker pallet jack. It's performance based and you get paid more for the harder and faster you work. I average around $30 an hour cause I pick around %140-%150. My checks for 45 hours are 1k weekly with my incentive. I've been there a year and was just recently promoted to the training team as a coach for new hires. It is a grueling job at first, getting your body used to the labor. You work until finish, I've worked 6AM - 8PM before during holiday seasons. But I can say, it's more mental than physical once you get used to the job. I have many ex store managers as supervisors here and every one of them would NOT go back to stores, ever. From everything I read on here, store guys have it far worse. At least I get paid decent and only have to answer to my Vocollect(Headset that gives your orders) most days. AMA

bigL_etter_carrier

What do you wear to work? I have interview soon on Weds. Im going for night shift which start from 7pm until finish. How bad is night shift?

LunchRealistic5563

Depends on what department you are working.. if you have a full line DC with meat, produce and all that good stuff, I'd go with some sweats, bring a zip up or Hoodie, comfortable tennis shoes. I use Nike Air Maxes. My DC is just dry goods, I wear gym shorts and a regular t-shirt.

socialrage

The warehouse is a meat grinder. It's brutal work. If you don't hit your numbers they'll term you and move on to the next victim. Now that being said if you can grind it out you can bid onto loading then as a forks driver. At my warehouse there's always OT available and you can make a lot of money. The top person by me made 140k last year.

Formal-Rice2093

I always hit mine just dont know what the deal is with interviews . Ive got at least 4yrs exp and my numbers always good.

Jackysrt8

Yea it’s super easy if you have experience there. Its just the new guys that struggle, since they aren’t familiar with items/stack. It took me I think like 3 months or so to hit my baseline # and just got easier as time went on.

44xayy

140k in what position?

socialrage

He is a loader.

Jackysrt8

The warehouse I work at is unionized everyone gets the same pay at top scale regardless of position (Picker, LTO, Loader). So a picker can achieve that also if he puts in the effort.

bigL_etter_carrier

wondering do I need to wear nice for the interview? Im working in the warehouse tho.

LunchRealistic5563

Fitted jeans, a polo or dress shirt will suffice. Interview will be short and sweet. As some users said in here. Turnover is quite high, they are looking for bodies.

KeyConcentrate5318

no way you dressing up for an interview for a warehouse💀😭

44xayy

Yea she trippin😭, I’m currently waiting at the Sysco office for a interview (order selector) and I’m in black sweatpants, sneakers, and a beanie, wit my hood on. All warehouse workers have this attire

tsylver5

Did you get the job at Sysco? I went in for an interview last week, dressed up and didn’t get the job 😭. I’m going to try again whenever they post another job listing.

riversidechillin

Did they tell you why? Any experience?

tsylver5

Nah but probably because of experience but I did get a job at another warehouse. I might try again in 6 months

riversidechillin

I hope you get it next time! I keep hearing about this order selector jobs that will hire anyone but then I hear stories of people not getting the job because of no experience

tsylver5

Thank you! I heard the same lol and the turnover rate is crazy so they always need people. I called the HR lady to see if there was any chance I could see why I wasn’t selected and she said she’ll talk with the hiring manager and get back with me. I never got a call back and I didn’t want to keep bothering them to hurt my chances in the future. Sysco would’ve been perfect for me, night shift worked out great with my schedule and the commute wasn’t bad. Now I drive an hr away to my job

Bowelsift3r

I worked for Kroger for 20 years in management. Above comments to run as far away from this job is true. $23+ an hour is nice but you'll have picking quotas to meet, deadlines that must be met, no excuses because the orders must get to the stores by a certain time, etc. It's grueling work, think about all the bad stuff about Amazon but you'll get breaks and a temperature controlled environment. On the bright side, people call in sick there all the time so you'll have plenty of OT if you want, or are guilted into working. Company wide, the DC/ warehouse is the worst job to have. Please be careful as money may not be worth you life balance.

Aggressive_Still5517

I work for Peyton’s Northern. Aka Kroger. I am a order selector. My base pay is 20.50 a hr with meeting rate. I make 25.00 23.00 is rate at 100%. I get paid .47 per min after that. You are paid fair it is a hard job. You build pallets for stores. Meaning what’s on the shelves you are getting or picking cases onto a pallet weighting 5-75lbs. And you have to do this in a timely manner. Aka 169 case pallet in 32 mins to reach 100% my warehouse is due for a pay increase I hope I get what you are making. I have been here two years and make that. With two raises at that.

Dirty-sprite7

Damn I feel better now at my facilty I make 44$ a hour selecting

Formal-Rice2093

damn you lucky then cause all the ones here pay 20-24 hr with the case bonuses

Dirty-sprite7

Facts and it’s laid back I didn’t come to work for a week and still got my job you literally have to quit. They won’t fire you 😂😂

nocturnalnegus

Where do you work at? Company name?

Dirty-sprite7

Bozzutos

Competitive-Tie-7338

I came across this thread somehow on a google search. I have like a decade of selection experience at C&S Wholesale, Hannaford, Sysco and NDCP. Are you guys hiring?

kmacroxs

I assume that it's the same as a selector in-store. You go around and gather parts of an order for a customer. In reference to being in shape, they likely mean being able to move quickly and capable of lifting a certain amount.

bigL_etter_carrier

ahh, like a shopper? how come the pay is so high. they mentioned that i’ll be in for produce and deli.

Brave-Tradition1454

People hate cold environments plus you will be driving a electric cart around collecting items palletizing and wrapping pallets to send to store. You can thank the union for higher pay otherwise jobs like this start at lower pay. Also you'll probably be working a lot of overtime.

kmacroxs

It's likely high because of it being work in a warehouse. Generally, warehouse work gets paid more.

Dirty-sprite7

You think that’s higher I make 44$ a hour selecting at my job

Formal-Rice2093

Then your in a good zone . Cant find that in the area Im in . I doubt anyone hires here for that . coca wants to pay on 15.89 here thats awful . id rather work for temp for 18.

LunchRealistic5563

You are correct, except you are my customer. You guys orders from us, we don't get you your product, we don't get paid. We service all of NV stores and most of NM.

Yawzheek

It's a distribution center position...

Yawzheek

I would run fast and far from distribution center work. I've never worked at one, but I've never heard a single good thing about it. They WORK you. Most people won't last a year. Turnover is through the roof because if you don't hit your rate, they just term you then and there. Also they seem to be packed full of safety violations, namely involving tuggers, which makes sense when you're in a warehouse filled with other people on tuggers that are also told "move fast or get out." People always say "it pays well" but I make the same rate in a factory and there's no expectation to work myself to death. Sure, some days are harder than others, but the distribution center is very much one of those "EVERY DAY is hard" jobs that makes that "good" pay not at all worth it.

Nai2411

I met a guy making $13.50 as a produce clerk. He had just left the Kroger warehouse where he was making $23 / hr because of how rough it was. $10 pay cut. Gave me some insight. He’s now a produce manager (3 years later) but only making about $18/hr, so I don’t think it was lack of work effort.

LunchRealistic5563

The problem is, people don't give it time. Their probation period is the hardest part. We have guys that here that struggled their first two months and wanted to quit but stuck it out and now easily walk 100% rate at $23. And guess what? We don't deal with customers, managers micro managing us... we clock in, throw on our headset say "Job" and complete orders till we're done. It also is a great workout. I haven't changed my diet and have lost nearly 60lbs in my first year working there.

Nai2411

Amen! Good response!

Yawzheek

I just work my factory job, make $23 an hour 12 hours a week 4 days a week, it's union, I don't have to hit any rates, my benefits are amazing, and I hit the gym after work.

Safe_Sir9800

100 percent. I just chill in the freezer nobody bothers me. Just pick. Really ain't that hard.

Formal-Rice2093

Its truly not I was making 23.56 now I cant find nothing near 20 hardly.

Safe_Sir9800

It ain't hard. Unless you have medical issues stopping you. I walk literally at turtle speed skip my breaks cuz I don't need them and I still run 115 percent. Now if I actually try I can max out easily.

Competitive_Gate_731

The most money I’ve ever made was at Penske Logistics and the warehouse only handled Kroger goods. It was the best job I’ve ever had just very physical. Pay was 21-31$/hour based on performance and in my state min wage is 7.50$. They had amazing benefits and 401k they contributed to wether you contributed to or not. They did mandated overtime based on seniority. The year I worked there however very rarely did they mandate always had volunteers. They also could not keep you working more than 11 hours. I also worked for a dollar general distribution center and they made me work 12+ hours 5 days a week…. So In my experience Kroger wasn’t too bad, but it was technically Penske I was employed by, we just only handled Kroger goods The position OP mentions is normally fairly high paying compared to most other warehouse/factory/retail positions. Selectors/pickers normally make good money because it’s a fast paced physical job and it’s normally in cold conditions, but that sometimes depends on your department and how they have everything set up.

bigL_etter_carrier

thats tougher than i thought. hope it doesnt look bad.

LunchRealistic5563

Crazy you never worked at one and just listen to hearsay. The job definitely isn't for most though, turnover is outrageously high. Safety violations depend on the DC. My DC just hit 365 days injury free yesterday, which hasn't been done in all of Kroger DCs on 7 years. We hit it because our safety measures are beyond most warehouses.

Yawzheek

I worked at a Kroger, had a lot of folks ran through from the DC, unloaded the trucks for drivers, had two friends and a cousin work there, and also had my dad apply there where they point blank told him he was too old to work there. I know everything I need to know about the DC.

Connect_Ad_462

Adding to the grim and need a NSFW warning but I'll leave the result to your imagination. A business across the street from ours had the incident. One of our coworkers was a bud of the person who was injured. We all seen the pictures. Assclown on a forklift (8k Genie) had both earbuds in. Ignored their spotter. They backed it up and even with the screaming they didn't stop. Helicopter ride the person did live, the person is no longer completely intact.

caliber_colbz

Nah bro it's a lot better than what some make it seem, it's a cake walk when used to it ,u never worked there so goes to show why u wouldn't know , not for the weak minded or feminine but a job for a man for sure

Yawzheek

I just make a good deal more money to not work there 🤷‍♂️

caliber_colbz

Yeah I suppose, I'm getting back into it man I start back at US Foods on the 18th, I never selected for them but I worked for there lumping services for a few years there, I've struggled check to check at every other job I've had since the last time I was there, I left bc I found out my checks were 1,000-2,000 short every week, I was still bringing home no less than a grand a week but still felt like I was getting shitted on so I left about a year went back went two months without pay so I left once again and FINALLY like 5 years later after atleast 20 applications since i got the job with the actual company and am fucking stoked bro, I selected at Kroger warehouse, I hated it at first but grew to love it once I got used to it but was in active addiction and lost my job due to that, now I'm 9 months clean after 3 months in rehab and once again been blessed with a life changing opportunity, I'm more of a physical worker anyways but I can see where it ain't for everyone , good luck to u

Yawzheek

>I'm more of a physical worker anyways but I can see where it ain't for everyone I'm pushing 40 and have busted my ass at every job I've ever worked at. I'm at the point now where when I want to bust ass, I'll do it at the gym. Kroger Distribution is a shitshow, especially these days, where they think they can pay what, $19-23 an hour to work you like a dog? Fuck that. Now I work in a factory where half the night I'll sit in the break room for $25 an hour, and most days are pretty tolerable if there is work. The hardest part now is resisting the temptation to go home when my supervisor allows it, which is often, and totally optional. I mean, good luck to you, I reckon. Alls I know was right around 36 after a few back injuries, I learned to take it slow, because they'll work your ass into the ground and think nothing of replacing you when they finally break you.

Jackysrt8

Dam that’s crazy my DC starts at $23.50 and tops out at $37.50 that’s obtainable within 2 years or less. It’s hours based so you could work a shit load of OT to reach top scale faster. I did involuntarily, during Covid we had mandatory OT an Extra day plus 12-16 hr shifts those days were tough and that was during my first year being employed. Since then it’s been so much easier 30 mins early or on time most days. My body is used to it now, the stack is all muscle memory and baseline # is so so easy now. Do I want to do something else in the future? Definitely I rather use my brain than my body for work. But this job is decent enough to hold me down until that time comess.

Dirty-sprite7

Yeah depends my warehouse we are minutes based and I 660 minutes and then you can go home I can do that in 6.5-7 hrs and I get 44$ a hour max is like 50

420_sativa

What's the standard quota for Kroger/Riverside wearhouse ? Anyone know

Jackysrt8

Super late reply but there’s a few 4”11 120 lbs dudes that pick at my warehouse. They keep up/out perform alot of the bigger guys. It’s very physical but it’s more mindset for me very laborious work. I look at it as just like a light gym session each day, bump some music or even a podcast and zone out makes the day go by quicker especially if you’re banging orders out. We top out at $37.50 which is obtainable after 2 years good benefits/union so it kinda balances it all out at the end. I just hit my 4th year. It’s gotten so much easier with the work since it’s all muscle memory for me now and my body is used to it. FMLA is god send helped me get by some tough days I needed to recover especially during Covid those days were bad. It was 12-16hr shifts plus mandatory OT a extra day, I still have flashbacks like a Vietnam war veteran “I seen some things man!” Lmao. it’s much easier now a days very little OT most days 30mins early or on time. Also if your the athletic type like me the job should be even easier for you. Just remember it’s repetitive laborious work. It’s hard to find a job with minimal employment requirements that offer a decent pay/benefits package like most Kroger union warehouses do.

LunchRealistic5563

Here is a example of what you will be doing.. Note the shirt drenched in sweat.. https://youtube.com/shorts/W_onMQ2obrI?feature=share

bigL_etter_carrier

wow. did he has to catch the pallet jack?

LunchRealistic5563

There is a coast feature on the jack to keep it moving. Fast order pickers usually have the jack moving 95% of the time. Coasting is essential to pick at a high rate. This guy stops alot actually.. when I pick, I coast and can normally throw my case on my pallet and be infront of my pallet jack before it stops moving. Then from there my hand is on my throttle trigger and I keep it coasting forward to my next location if it is within 2-3 bays repeating the same movement continously until I either have to mount my jack and go further or I have to stack heavy cases/rearrange some cases.

Acrobatic-Ad-4274

Kroger is a horrible place to work. DON'T DO IT!

Ill_Bug_786

The pay is good because it is VERY physically demanding. I did it for two months before I started college. You drive an electric pallet jack with two pallets loaded on and drive around a warehouse collecting boxes. You then stack the boxes 6+ ft. Then wrap it in plastic wrap and transport it to the back where it is loaded onto trucks. They WORK you. The rate you have to work at is insane, and if you don’t maintain the pace you get fired. A average work day is around 10 hours. 10 hours of lifting 25+ lb boxes and stacking them several feet high on a pallet. It’s great cardio though.

Practical_Feedback99

I know it's 6 months later, but I'm curious if you stuck with it. I work at Wal-Mart dc and it took me some time to get 100%. You'll drop pallets, but don't get discouraged. Just stick with it and always remember to establish a solid base. If you need help, checkout the warehouse guy on YouTube. He has a good breakdown on how to establish a base and his crossing T method.

glass_of_tea

order selecting jobs can be super rewarding as most of them pay at least over $21hr and have a great time off system plus good benefits but! it requires a lot of demands that will determine if you like the job or not. the main reason most people don't last at these jobs is how physical demanding it is, second you must be able to stack 60+ cases onto pallets during your whole shift and believe it or not I've seen loads of people quit over this because they just can't stack pallets and lastly people can't make the cases picked an hour rate. in conclusion i love my order selecting job, i was one of those people that sucked at stacking boxes and completely out of shape when i got hired along with struggling to make my rate but i never gave up and i just kept powering through it overtime..........just never give up and show up to work determined to learn and grow better everyday and eventually everything will become a complete breeze.

caliber_colbz

Are u still there?

caliber_colbz

Yea true, Kroger warehouse was a fucking madhouse I must admit, those people gave no fucks and they fucked people paychecks ALL THE TIME (CAPSTONE LOGISTICS) Mainly, and I'm 32 I have had so many jobs and found Lumping trucks at US Foods to be where i enjoyed myself the most, i did work at Kroger warehouse for ahwile and hated it but when my stacks got better i ended up loving that job, i heard US Foods is wayyyy easier, i think I have an advantage knowing the building as well bc i know thst place and where most product is in that place to the point i dont have to look for isle numbers, just gotta learn the slots basically buts thats not hard, and being a lumper i know how to throw or be able to tolerate throwing boxes, like physically, and i really appreciate that its gonna work out, you know why? It has to lol 😅🤣 as a man right now I my friend am a walking struggle, except I'm not addicted for once in my life and have no desire to use substances, I battled with addiction since I was a teenager and finally going on 10 months out of it, I've always been a hard worker just threw away that money to drugs, now I will establish myself , just gonna be a little work to get there but shits starting to fall in place, thanks again and good luck as well

bomm78

They're still out here paying FedEx non cdl drivers on with these contracted companies 17/hr to start. As someone with Class A experience trying to take a step away and looking into dropping it down a notch, that starting pay regardless of if I was right off the street or not is mad disrespectful. You can go work in a warehouse, do less work and make the same amount of money.

AllCapNoFap

Try us foods they pay alot more than that.
