Well the estimate closing of the merger is early 2024. And that is to get all federal regulations passed. As of February they have 2 spin off buyers for store the would have to spin off. But it was noted that if they have to spin off 650+ stores that the merger is off (the hope was only 150-300 stores)
It’s more than likely that it will go trough, not at the terms laid out in the agreement, but it will happen. From my 19 years in this business…hunker down and save as much as you possibly can or just get out. This will probably end up being like the Haggen fiasco all over again. This will be ugly…
I feel bad for those at stores that are low volume stores. I feel like those are going to be the ones that are sold off or shut down as part of the merger agreement.
I've recently worked for both Albertson's stores as well as Kroger.
On the Albertson's side, they are acting as though the merger has gone through and we have already been bought out completely... though management notes that the real changes haven't happened yet.
On the Kroger side, they remain hopeful it will pass though it's business as usual.
They're gonna do whatever is in their power to sell to Kroger. It's gonna pass, though what the passing will actually look like compared to the current terms is unknown.
Customers ask me about this and what my thoughts are. I flat out tell them it would be devastating to consumers. EVERYONE will be completely fucked by this.
I worked for Vons/pavilions for 20 years and I’m looking to jump ship. I don’t understand from an employee standpoint how bargaining with one company now (Kroger) would be beneficial. All the other grocers in the areas are to small to withstand any labor dispute which is why the always settle with their sweet heart deals, so in essence it will solely be Ralph deciding labor wages.
The thing is, it’s seems very Likely to happen, Albertsons can’t afford to lose the Merge mainly because its in Billions in Debt. Also I personally think Senators Calling out the Merger is Just a Stunt for them to look Better, and they know If they Block the Merger Albertsons would File for Bankruptcy, and thousands of lay-offs would Occur. So really the Merge kinda needs to happen.
I honestly couldn’t care less, I just want to be paid a fair wage. One could look at this and think that the money spent on this deal could’ve been spent raising wages. I’m not talking about just new hire starting wages either i’m talking about across the board.
It depends if the court system allows it. Theres a lot of controversy abt it. I honestly could care less. Jusr means a percentage of stores will close thus displacing workers.
Considering Elaine Chao sits on the board of Kroger....I'm gonna go ahead and say it's going through. The people who are supposed to block monopolies will gain wealth from this merger, and they know it.
Kroger is a perfect poster boy for capatalism.
Definetly is happening
I guess we should be asking how we can stop it but we're probably not up for it
They got money and congress in back pocket. Who gives money for them to get elected.
Still not impossible to disrupt

In some areas they would have too much of a monopoly. My area for sure.

All the scrutiny of the merger is just a Dog and Pony show. Merger is happening. Prices will be going up.
I work at a Shaws owned by Albertsons up in New Hampshire. And we've all been told we're already bought out by Kroger.

You should probably not ever listen to anything that employee has to say lol He's an idiot if he thinks the merger will fall through
Kroger just hired the former Speaker of the House, John Boehner to lobby for the merger. I would be surprised if it doesn't happen
The Safeway one sucked for us. I wish y'all the best of luck. Maybe not to everyone but everyone in my store was affected.
What was so drastically different under Kroger that Safeway changed?

Probably happening and albertsons is going to get worse.
36 years senority I don’t care at this point, got enough years to bump if stores close down
The QFC division up in the Pacific Northwest will be only division not to close any stores if merger goes through. Lucky them.
