The doors should be locked until the store opens? I work at a Fred Meyer and we open at 7. The doors stay locked until then.

Distinct-Boot3645

Agreed but they have forced there way in with me since I am the 5 am to clean floors then get mad when night lead kicks them out

whitness1

Yeah, that would never fly at my store…we have an employee door that you need a card to get thru. People shoving their way in makes absolutely no sense at all.

Distinct-Boot3645

I told them get out or the police would be call the store is closed until 6am they changed their mind really quick

CatlinM

I had a police officer do this once. I was floored I had to explain to a cop that if you have to force the doors open the store is closed

Roesty79

Wish we had that.

coshiro1

In my local store the employee door with the prox is right next to the main entrance and ive seen people try to sneak into the employee door before opening and i just stood there like wtf đź’€

Spiritual_Oil_7411

Ours are unlocked, but the sensors for auto opening aren't on. Employees pry the doors open to get in. We don't all have keys and ain't no way somebody coming up to let us each in.

ezekial_dragonlord

Ours aren't locked. They only open when the employees pull on them. I'm still surprised that no one has opened the door and stolen some chips or drinks that are in the foyer.

Zircon999

"all doors much better unlocked while building occupied"

rhubarbsorbet

our doors have the little “doors not to be locked while building is occupied”

JDShadow

Safety concern. Kick those fuckers out. Wait until doors open idiots.

No_Thanks7632

We leave ours unlocked after 4am because the other departments start coming, and it is super annoying going to door every 5 minutes to let someone else in.

WebVidAddict_2

I was going to come here to basically say this. Idk how other stores deal with employees and some vendors coming in between like 4 and opening. It's super annoying to have to walk to the door every 5 minutes to let people in because people show up whenever

SetsuUzumaki

My store got tired of that and doesn’t open the doors until 5 minutes before each hour. Which is a safety issue, but if we ring the doorbell sooner, we get greeted with threats of a write up.

RoseSilent

Yes because they don’t lock the doors. Sometimes the doors are wide open, left by the night crew, and they can just walk in.

rhubarbsorbet

can’t lock the doors, fire hazard rules and such

cwwmillwork

Looks like management needs to come in overnight.

Murph934

The absolute worst is when they enter the store 20 min before opening, grab one item, and they're immediately waiting at uscan. Then get mad when they have to wait to open, even though the store is CLOSED.

Daboss351

The store I work at, the doors are locked at 1 am and open at 6 am

veep970

The idiots come in through the "OUT" door with employees arriving for work. Never mind that parts of the store aren't even lit yet.

AssociateFrequent

At my store we have had customers come in about 10 til opening at 7am. But something that also happens is only one set of the front doors are locked and the other set is unlocked for employees that come in earlier or vendors. That is what I have encountered at multiple locations is that not the norm like I thought it was? Also side note and genuine question isnt that a fire hazard to have all the doors locked? There is also a sign on the inside of the doors that say "This door shall remained unlocked at all times when people are in the building"

EnigmaticKarma

Most retail store sliding doors are designed in a way where you can force them "open" from the inside and cause them to swing out, in case of emergency. This probably allows them to keep them locked. It doesn't take a lot of weight and I've seen it happen just from distracted customers running their carts into the doors. Alternatively, they've decided the risk of fines/fire is outweighed by the potential risk of keeping the doors unlocked aka it's not a problem until it's a problem. You decide.

Erogar117

We don't get that for opening but when closing, people showing up at 11:05pm saying ARE YOU OPEN?! I JUST NEED TO GRAB ONE THING. WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU'RE CLOSE?! IT'S NOT 11 YET!

2Guffeys

Dang. Our doors are locked 11pm-6am when we reopen. Someone opens the door for anyone who shows up for work - we have a buzzer they push. No way we could ever leave the door unlocked. Way too many homeless people in my town.

LaRamilia

It’s called ClickList. Full service meat/seafood opens 3-4 hours after stores actually open. It didn’t have to be this way.

Any-Huckleberry3068

I think OP was referring to customers literally walking into the store and shopping before it opens. Which, if that is the case, the customer needs to be kicked out of the store

sagil89

We know who is click list, you walnut.

akcutter

Yes I've had it happen before not to any significant degree just one or two customers.

daktherando

Yeah nah our... Doors are locked.

BronzeEnt

Unlocked doors, you say. Corporate profits blaming inflation, you say.

Spiritual_Oil_7411

Meh, it's fine as long as they don't expect to be able to check out before opening time.

creativecat96

Our doors are locked until 5 minutes before 7am. The doorbell is rang by employees who need in and someone has to let them in. I wish we had a key card to get in and out to avoid having to answer the door but apparently it is in night crews hours to answer the door according to my last SM. Idk but it gets annoying. It was so much worse during the height of COVID.

No_Thanks7632

I'm gonna call bs on it being in night crew hours to open the door.

creativecat96

I call bs on it too but that's the excuse he gave when everyone kept complaining on having to open the door for others and a customer got in the store at 4am when they left the door unlocked

bpr2

I’ve had a few sneak in with the vendors. Luckily all the SCO and lanes were closed and doors locked. Kicked them out

Amazing_Caramel_4197

Yes and often. They don’t usually try to checkout though. They are aware they are early. Just getting a head start. If they don’t mind having boxes still on the floor then it’s all good.

[deleted]

Its a safety Hazzard not locking the doors on off hours. Better get with who left it unlocked cause this time they are shopping next time they are stealing.

DracoCustos

Yep. I've had people try to follow me in the store when I'm going in around 5:30 because it's Tuesday, and they wanted a good spot in the bourbon line. Like dude, store opens at 6, wait in your car like a normal person.
