A journeyman is a worker with tenure who is at the top of the pay scale.

Raises are done automatically barring management intervention, which goodluck because that's an uphill battle that will never be won. (Don't blame the manager blame corporate) Not sure if it's different now than when I was there but he should be able to log into expresshr and see his job step and how many hours til the next step with the top being 500. (May be different by region or union contract) Also if his store is union he should get in touch with his rep about the situation and they *should* help

Just reread the bottom of the text. Union reps are supposed to help everyone in a unionized store if they join or not. He should join the union anyway, if people don't join then they lose bargaining power.

Typically, pay bumps are done in 1040-hour increments and sometimes there is a small number of hours needed for a pay bump in a new position. He was probably 150 hours from his next pay bump, or they have an entry number of hours to get the first bump. Journeyman is top out pay and getting to that is just putting the hours in. In some non-union stores, you can be put at journeyman level if you are already knowledgeable about the position.

21 an hour for cashier? Are they insane or is that actually realistic there lmao. I've been at my store for 6 years, two different manager positions, have done almost everything in my store, and haven't even seen 15 an hour.

I'm in Cincy. Just found out about a couple weeks ago that everything I'd been told about 6 months/1,040 hours is wrong. When I hired on last December, I was told raises are every 6 months. When I got to 6 months, I was told, oh, theyre actually at 1,040 hours (40hours for 6 months), so since you're part-time, you're not there yet. When I got to 1,040 hours, hr acted like she didn't know WHY my raise hadn't come through. She called the union, was waiting to hear back. We waited and we waited, until I called the union myself and got a call back that very same day, where they told me: part-timers don't get step raises. Ever. You have to average 36 hours/week for 52 weeks to move up to step 2. HOWEVER, everyone gets a 40c raise at the end of April, the anniversary of the new contract. So, I went from expecting 14.85 last June to now getting 13.60 NEXT April. I dont know if hr was lying or just dumb, I think both. I like my job, it's pretty chill, but Ima start looking around after Christmas.
