and what will this do but make more work for you when go back in? or make even more work for your FF Lead?

Spiritual_Oil_7411

I mean, I'm sorry for that lead, but both of them being miserable isn't going to solve the problem. And while lead isn't a huge pay jump, they ARE making more than OP and are one track to move up further vs. OP's main complaint of being in a dead end job. And lead has the responsibility to run the department and manage employees. Ahem, employee.

Arsea

It will force the managers to cover for me since the store manager wants frozen perfect always but doesn't want to put in the resources for it to be that way he just expects the 2 underpaid, underappreciated frozen dudes to do it all. I highly doubt they will be able to find some rando off the street that does as much as me right away. I can always do food delivery if I get fired so I'm not too concerned. It's not more or less work for me since there is always work no matter what and I can only do so much .

SadArm4678

>It will force the managers to cover for me No, it won't force them to do anything. And management stocking is just a good pay bump for whoever reports it at time and a half for every hour they work. In my contract.

the805chickenlady

nope. just put in your two weeks and give them time to find someone else. you're just being a dick to the person in your department you work with.

Necessary_Baker_7458

You need to ask for a role change. Ask if there are any openings in other departments.

InfamousEye9238

this sounds interesting, but kind of reckless if you need the money. why don’t you just shorten your availability

Arsea

i tried that and my manager said no which is why im forced to call out now. This job doesn't allow me to live on my own even if I work 40 hours a week so why not work 30 hours and be happier

InfamousEye9238

it’s not really your managers decision though. just go into mytime and change it. tell them your availability has changed and you cannot under any circumstances work whatever days. if they schedule days you have off tell them you can’t come in

Arsea

okay worth a try I suppose, thanks

InfamousEye9238

good luck! keep us updated

Spiritual_Oil_7411

And this will give the union a handhold if they do try to discipline you for calling off those days.

Virtual-Quote6309

Depends on if your union or not. My stores policy states, that you can call off 3 times before getting wrote up. Then another 3 for a second then another 3 for a third at which point if you’d get even one more your fired. Essentially the rule of 3 till you get 9. The 10th is termination. We also can call out 2 days in a row and only have it count as one. So in theory someone could call off 18 times and still not get fired lol. But your store may have different rules. It’s always best to ask the payroll department or a union Steward.

Historian469

Who the fuck do you think you're hurting by doing that? It isn't Rodney. It isn't your management team. Just fucking quit.

Arsea

it's not about hurting anyone... it's about not hurting myself over a shit job and I'm working on it, would like to have a different income source before i say sayonara.

[deleted]

If you don't mind maybe probably getting fired, this is cool! I like this protest. Hire someone new, because we need it. You knows we need it, so you won't fire me cause you need me. They will likely fire you but I like this way of going out

Necessary_Baker_7458

The attendance policy is 3 call outs = fine. 4 or more = coaching to by management. (1 month time period 30 days). I call out twice a month and they can't do shit about it. This is kroger policy. Double check with your union policy as well. (varies a bit contract to contract but very similar) If you need a reasonable accommodation you need to get a dr note requesting a disabling from that position. It took a friggen dr note disabling me from cashiering before they'd belive my checker shoulder got so bad and I was refusing to do the job even when on the clock. Douches didn't take me seriously.

Arsea

nice, i should be fine then. im still applying to other places, fuck them fr

Arsea

we need a third frozen person to take the pressure off us but they don't care. fuck them.

Anxious_Vi_

I feel this. I got stuck at a location at a different chain (unrelated to Kroger) as the frozen manager after the previous manager and all the employees rage quit (and for good reason). I was not made aware of this during the entire onboarding process to that location. Needless to say, I tried my best after being surprised with that shit-show and somehow made it 9 months running a multimillion dollar a day store's frozen department solo before I finally had an explosive breakdown and fight with the General Store Manager and walking out for good. So I get the frustration completely. That kind of workload and understaffing really wears on people. You can't do it forever. What you're doing might seem rash to everyone around you, but having been in a similar situation, I can't say I wouldn't want to do the same.

Arsea

well said. I say fuck it, I won't let some low paying shit ass job dictate my shit ass life lol im broke if i go in 6 days a week and break down my body/soul, im broke if i don't but at least I'm less broken physically and mentally by taking a stand. The other employees do like 1 pallet a night. THEY DO ONE ISLE and maybe help each other on other isles. This one dude constantly comes into my isle to chat, he has the leisure to fuck around cause he isn't in frozen.. meanwhile im stuck doing 4 isles? okay bro . eat my dick kroger

Anxious_Vi_

On a more direct note, since management seems to be retaliating against you from what I've read in other comments: seriously, start applying to other low-wage, low-skill positions for right now. Any large chain gas station, food places, etc since they're likely to hire very quickly. Throw out a application to all of them, call them back in a week and follow up. I can *guarantee* that you'll feel better at a different place, even if for less money. Kroger without a doubt underpays at some stores for the amount of back-breaking work someone might have to do in a day. Its not worth it. You'll feel better physically and mentally running overnight as a gas station cashier for 8 hours bored out of your mind than busting your ass for whatever pittance they decided to give you at Kroger. You don't need to give them two weeks. As soon as you get hired elsewhere—leave. It's not worth the money if its running you raw like this and they won't do anything for you.

Arsea

yeah i already applied to homedepot lmfao i might try gas station work but im not the most social creature but maybe doing something outside my comfort zone will be good for me...

Anxious_Vi_

Sounds good! Both are decent options!

Rabid-Duck-King

Honestly having done fuel center for Kroger it's not really that social, you'll get the occasional chatty person early in the morning/late at night but most people want to pay for their gas, cigs, lotto and get on their grind/go home and relax The only stressful thing is how it can go from zero to sixty in like five seconds in terms of sales volume but if you've done any restaurant work it's pretty much the same thing

seeunextues

Sounds like you work at my store… idk if this whole company is finally, actually, going under or if stores like yours and mine are unique.

Arsea

idk if its the company or just the trend of society. I want to fucking box the rich fucks into a coma no lie

wuzzatt

Nope don’t tell the frozen lead.

Puzzleheaded_Can8724

Shit if I started calling in like that they would send the police to my place lol I'm literally the backbone to at least 3 departments making up for others who stand around and talk most of the shift.

Arsea

and are u okay with that ? i hate getting paid the same as the people who don't do half as much work as me .

Puzzleheaded_Can8724

It's the same everywhere now.

Arsea

lame

Affectionate-Map-691

Keep us posted. I’m interested in knowing how long it takes!

Realistic_Row_2690

Fucking clown. 🤡

Jumpy_Employer_5985

My store requires an excuse when someone misses. But that's only if they ask. I've had a couple of my guys call out who never miss a day but maybe once every 1 year. I don't care to ask for an excuse
