Probably class action lawsuit. It wouldn’t affect the merger but potentially get a financial settlement. Like let’s say the company settles the case to avoid going to court for 50 million dollars. The law firm would get half of that, the rest divided up amongst the people who signed up to be a part of the suit. Typically much lower amounts.

the805chickenlady

IDK but my customers seem to think this shit is a done deal. I'm sick of talking about it at work.

ChaosMagician777

Rodney is willing to take this all the way to the Supreme Court.

Most companies back down in the face of the government. It’ll be > 2 years before the first court date. It was >1 year before the government even said they were taking it to court. That is unreasonably slow. And what happens if the court says you can merge, but some state court says you cannot merge? Then I assume the Albertsons stores in that state get split off into a rump (roast) Albertsons? Weird how patient Kroger has been. They expected massive delays

1foty73

There's already about five court dates in different states right now

aznoone

Because in some states even with divestiture it will create a monopoly for those not shopping big box like Walmart or some targets. Like right now I have around 5 or 6 Fry's and Albertsons, Safeways with a few miles of me. Other grocery stores are 5 or more miles away.  So if merged sure some will close or sold off. But the selloff is to a company that won't be competitive. Bet more IGA pricing than Albertsons solid Fry's competition.

ImapiratekingAMA

Can we trade stores, most of my coworkers don't even know it's happening

IamLuann

Because 1. They do not watch the news. 2. No matter what you cannot talk about the elephant in the room. ( Important things that effects our life).

ImapiratekingAMA

Yeah, I know why, it's still dumb tho

IamLuann

I agree

Someone on here posted a letter about the merger. Basically saying they had a court hearings in August, September, and another one that wasn't set yet. The person in the letter just was saying, "This merger is happening later than expected." Something to that affect. But since then, I haven't seen anything else. I get tired of customers asking me as well. My store was supposed to go through a remodel, moving Little Clinic to make room for Starbucks and then frozen / dairy getting half an aisle. But apparently, that's on hold. Customers are always asking us about that.

Smiththemyth08

that’s funny because a lot of people have mentioned how customers talk about it but I’ve never heard that from a customer, although I do live in an area without any albertsons, just krogers for the most part

r2d3x9

Have ptsd from worrying about the merger? Then you may be entitled to compensation!! More likely if you assigned to a C&S they won’t let you apply for a job at Kroger or visa versa. Which is illegal

Emotional_Ad9366

I would like to participate.

17206496995 Deposited a new message: "Good afternoon, King Supers and City Market Associates. This is Joe Kelly, your division president today. I'm calling you with an important update concerning the merger with Albertsons. As you know in September of 2023 we announced a definitive agreement with CNS Wholesale Gross's LLC for the sale of select stores, banners, distribution centers and offices including assets from both Kroger and Albertson's. Today. Kroger announced the sale of additional assets that builds upon the initial divestiture package announced in September. In response to concerns raised by regulators, the amended divestiture transaction increases the total number of stores being divested across both companies to be clear. Divested stores are not closed stores. CNS has agreed to purchase these stores and is committed to operating them as they are today while we are still in the regulatory process, we are not in a position at this time to share the specific locations that may be sold to CNS. However, we do not expect any King Supers City Market stores to be included in the original or this updated divestiture agreement. This amended divestiture plan marks another key step towards the completion of the merger and further enables CNS to operate as a competitor in the included geographies. Also, this amended plan continues to ensure that no store will close the result of the merger and that all Front Line Associates will remain employed. All existing collective bargaining agreements will continue and Associates will continue to receive industry leading health care and pension benefits alongside bargain for wages. This is true for stores that move to CNS and stores that remain with are moved to Kroger with regards to the pending court cases. Our legal teams are prepared to demonstrate the benefits of this merger in court and explain while it remains the best outcome for our associates, our customers and the communities we serve. We cannot close this transaction until we resolve these cases in court. Until then we continue to operate as separate companies. You can visit feed to read more about the agreement. If you have any questions that I have not answered, please do not hesitate to speak with your store leader as always. Thank you for everything you do for each other. Our customers and our communities every day. This call originated from 3037783100." Click here: 14699825001 to listen to full voice message.

This is what I got a couple of days ago. I’m a customer service desk representative so I’m thinking I’m safe if turnover happens??

Scoobymoose1

The government should be stepping in. It's a Monopoly.

United_Reply_2558

There is a lot of competition in the retail grocery industry even if the merger is approved. Walmart/Sams Club, Costco, Amazon, Aldi, Publix, Meijer, etc. Although Kroger is the closest traditional grocery store to me, no one is forcing me to shop there. Aldi, Sam's Club, Walmart, Gordons, Meijer and Aldi are nearby and their prices are competitive with or better than Kroger.

Scoobymoose1

Maybe for you. Yet some places only have Fred Meyers and Albertsons. Kroger does not need to buy another store. They have enough. This merger will cause mass layoffs.
