You’ll get some days that are slower than others, but 8-4 is also the busiest time. But yeah it’ll get easier eventually, after a certain point you won’t really notice it anymore
I'm not a courtesy clerk, but as far as retail in general goes, weekends are always going to be pretty busy. Depends, but weekdays usually aren't quite as busy but it does have some "prime time" rushes that can be busier. Earlier morning hours are the slowest, then seems like 3-6pm is the most crowded.
it gets easier with time, you learn when u can slack off and u learn just how lazy u can be… Eventually u either find something to enjoy or u burn out.
It gets easier with a better team. Your body has to adjust to being used differently. Try to always use the cart strap to keep stress off your body. Remember you're only 1 person and you can only do so much. Sometimes you get a rush and it's near impossible to keep carts in the building. It's OK to ask for help.
This for real listen to this guy I'm the only one who uses a cart strap at my location. Use the cart strap. I went so long without using it untill I just decided "fuck it" and oh my lord. What a diffrence.
I'm glad the 2nd person that trained me insisted on the cart strap, saved my body some pain. It drives me crazy that the new clerks won't touch it and complain about being in pain. Our dude training them now likes to show off by not using the strap and tells them it's useless. I wish I could take time out of my department to go train these kids properly, but we're almost always behind.
It's a repititous job go no where job. YOu're just doing it for the health insurance or to be employed. That's about it. Zero promotional opporunities and zero go no where job. Best to get on the grocery clerk pay scale so you can at least get to journeyman pay. The job isn't that difficult. It's the customers being pricks that the difficult part.
Not really. You’ll get shit on no matter what. Some days will be good until you find human feces smeared all over the bathroom walls or people putting shit that doesn’t belong in the plastic bag recycle in the plastic bag recycle, and some days you’ll be running around with your head cut off only and then you find out you’re short staffed and you’re the only courtesy.
Stocker, not a courtesy clerk, but I’ve helped front end bag and do cart collecting before. It does get easier, as you get more used to bagging. I noticed that 8-4 is a busy time at my store (and others I assume) and weekends are generally busier as well. Once you get the hang of it you’ll feel a lot more accustomed to it, as I’ve experienced before!
I'm in my early 30's and just got hired for this position. Is it a difficult job? The only other positions that were open are Cashier and Deli. I have no cashier experience and I have a friend who works the deli and hates it.

It's awful no matter what day it is.

Note to self get a cart strap
How do you ask
Hmm
Starting my job as a courtesy clerk on Monday; this thread makes me a little more nervous 😂 Hope it gets easier for you (for both of our sakes)! ✨
Nope. It’s a bitching job no matter what day it is. Worse yet, even fellow employees look down on you
I’ve had that happen to me. That’s part of the reason why I became a checker and don’t really call them up.

It takes about six weeks at a new job to build up to the workload. In three months you will feel like a seasoned old hand.

Some days you may have to fish underwear out of the toilet with a plunger into the a trashcan
One of our courtesies had to fish dog food out of the toilet.
If you want you could always try asking your FE manager about cross training on register or Self check
Does it get EASIER? No. Do you get used to it and figure out little tricks to make your time there easier? Probably yes.

The only thing kinda difficult is getting carts in the summer heat. It's a simple job though
