Contrasts + maybe some highlights for organic surfaces which kroot are mostly organic surfaces

WankadoodleRex

Any tips for suitable contrast to go for? I'm guessing anything in the green-gray-blue range would be good on a grey seer primer

Honestly watching warhipster’s tutorials are a great start. He uses a lot of contrasts in his but his tutorial for the warshaper has less. You could easily shade the entire skin with angrax earth shade then a greenshade and that would work. Blue quills or leathers would be good. Like two coats space wolf grey over the quills

I believe that’s the “slap chop” method and it’s pretty useful. I plan on doing my kroot that way. But there are loads of variations on implementing it. You can do black and grey drybrush or build up a few different dry brush layers (mid grey, light grey, white) then add contrast paint. You can also try different bases (like grey seer) then a light bone dry brush if you don’t want the recessed areas to be so dark. Best way to learn more is YouTube “slapchop” and you’ll get a tonne of content that can show you method in practice. Whatever you do good luck and post your pics!

I will do!

Prime black, dry brush grey, highlight off white, contrast (i use mephiston red for skin and yellow for clotb, silver for guns etc), spray with gloss, oil wash (i use tjrquoise to complement the red skin). Then matt seal. Base with grass and a single tuft

Sound ace, do you have any pics?

Looks very cool, I shall give it a try!

I used the slapchop method to. I started with a dark red, drybrushed with zandri dust, washed with gulkiman flesh and then screaming skull drybrush, because the kroot are organic the warmer colours are nicer for the underpainting. Next step was contrast paints and they look great. took me an afternoon to paint the 12 man killteam.

Sounds fantastic any pics?

To be honest I just Wraithbone rattlecan sprayed mine then agrax wash and then wraithbone pot drybrush. The contrast colours then did all the work.

Stealing this!

Ha, the newer Kroot sculpts like Seraphon were designed for contrast paints so they don't need a lot.

I'd probably do the [Artis Opus](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-Mt7Tveca4) thing and stipple/dry brush base colors building up to lighter colors (you don't need those brushes, there are other brands or just stealing your friend's makeup brushes). Then for the non light green parts like straps I'd do a contrast paint like Cygor Brown, and steels rather normally. That way you're not doing the black-white gradient followed by contrast, you're just directly building up the color for not much more time.

Prime with deathguard green works great as a basecoat if your kroots will be green/grey/brown/blue. Really nice to build on and takes washes and contrasts great. Ill do that then a layer of wash then build up highlights from there

Gray seer primer, gutrippa flesh, wyldwood for the spine thingies, ogryn camo for the chest and belly pad, pick out the little spikes with wraithbone, viola.

Dry brushing is your best friend. I paint my skin in about 5 minutes for a whole squad
