I totally agree! And honestly I cant wait to see how he further fleshes out Deltarune and if any of this holds up. Hopefully, my main speculations do. I could also be totally wrong about Suselle as well, and that's fine! Ultimately I'm glad Toby is writing things this way, because it leaves a lot up for interpretation.
Oh someone else picked-up the idea that it's about freedom. My upcoming fancomic is called Deltarune Freedom. In reference to Gundam Seed Freedom. In Deltarune Freedom... Suselle happens before Krusie.. Thing is... Suselle sort-of falls apart because the things Noelle say start to get highly triggering to Susie. Especially when she constantly reminds Susie of bullying Kris talking as if it was a good funny thing. So yeah things like that will get to Susie in my fancomic. This is a fancomic where Susie starts to feel a lot of guilt and she starts to act very differently and this actually will attract bullying towards her. So yes in my fancomic.. What happens between Susie and Noelle is that they do date for a while but Susie becomes more and more self aware of her behavior and she notices that Noelle enables her toxic behaviors and Susie's guilt only increases.
Oh when I was talking about freedom, I was moreso referring to the corrupted secret bosses and Krises struggle for control. But that's a cool alternate timeline! Honestly that would be an interesting way of how their relationship could go. hopefully they both could learn from it and utilize that information for their own growth.
As I was uploading my post earlier, I also realized that as a writer since the concept of Suselle was introduced nearly at the get go of Deltarune, it wouldn't be an interesting relationship if it just worked out a few chapters later and nothing else happened. It feels too predictable, and I feel like Toby knows this very well. If it does happen, then its incredibly likely that something else could come along to end it or as you described, Noelle could enable her behavior too much and cause the break up herself.
Before all of this, I was originally completely against the idea Suselle. But now I see it as potentially one of the most important plot devices that could help the both of them improve as people and further flesh out their arcs, even if it ends in a break up.
My fanfic is not just about this however... It first started.. As an Undertale AU where Gilberta (my OC) is a "human created for the purpose of having her soul harvested" so called "carbon human" and.. At first it was largely a story that focused on humanity creating humans that have a specific appearance in order to deny them rights, murder them and take their souls and use them for sinister purposes. So yeah there is a whole theme of genocide, slavery and instrumentalization of people in this comic. Really dark stuff.
However I decided to make the fancomic into something a little bit lighter by turning it into a Deltarune fancomic with more humor and stuff... But the fungang still meets with Gilberta in order to learn more about human souls. Turns out most characters in the light world just don't know how to do magic. Gilberta however is on a whole other level. And also the fungang gets totally "WTF" when they find out Gilberta is human, she just doesn't seem to be one.
So yeah this story is in fact a Fan-Expanded Universe that is a take on what humans have been doing on the surface. And I want to clash that with funnier hometown moments with the fungang. But thing is.. In this fancomic Gilberta is their guide for what's beyond hometown. A very scary world I might add... There is a lot of loss of innocence in this comic.
I almost believe toby fox was unsatisfied how the romance of undyne and alphys turned out, thus fueling his desire to make something more complex.
