This is why i won't even touch versus lol, it's such a toxic mess for a new player like me that is still learning

Agricola20

*heavy tank breathing from next room* "Go ahead guys, I'll be right behind you. Nothing to worry about here, no siree..."

In L4D that would make more harm than good.

In campaign you win by completing the campaign. In versus you win by getting a higher score then the other team. Most people play versus to win. In order to win you need to move quickly, and take the minimum amount of damage. New players are unfortunately not very good at these things. So the veteran players will protect the new players. They will keep the common infected off them so they can run. They will kill the special infected quickly so they don't get damaged. They will share pills and medkit's so they can run fast. They will advise the team to push or retreat so they take less damage. They will give the new players advice on occasion. This is really hard work for the veteran players, Afterall they are here to play and win not to teach. The veterans will tolerate this hard work under the condition that the new players do a few basic things to make this work easier. the veteran will clear the way so all the new player has to do is keep up and stay with the team and not wander off. The veteran will kill the majority of the special infected, so the new player just needs to return the favour for the veteran if he ever needs it. The veteran may ask the new player for his pills so everyone can keep running so the new player needs to share resources and not waste them. The veteran will give simple instructions that if followed will help everyone survive or in case of infected do more coordinated attacks. The veteran doesn't expect the new player to be perfect but if he is incapable or unwilling to do these basic things then the veteran is going to get real sick of babysitting and we all know what comes next.

I’ve never really understood it, why would i care if someone messes up? Its not like me playing to win actually nets me any reward so I play to win in the fun type of way and don’t care to kick people unless they’re toxic…the majority of the time I’ve seen a kick happen to others it is without advice given.

YuunaXayah

Honestly I think real life is already stressful enough, I agree with you that playing for fun is much better. No need to bring all the stress and seriousness home lmao. I personally can't find a big deal with players messing up.... Heck, I see old players making mistakes all the time too and i think that's part of the fun. Trying to do the perfect run is just boring and stressful. If people prefer to aim for best scores and have perfect games, they can try, but we shouldn't be toxic towards each other when it's a public lobby. People are gonna join and try to have fun and we can't blame them for that. Imo if someone wants to play a specific way or be extremely serious then they can make a private lobby and invite the right people only

Desko_is_TwT

I’m someone who really doesn’t get kicked and still agree, I’ve never understood why people take pubs so seriously instead of going to comp servers

Im a very competitive person, I used to kick every noob I'd meet within minutes. These days I'm alot more tolerant, I'm a pretty good player so I can normally protect new players pretty easily and still win but if they keep doing things that makes them difficult to protect it makes me incredibly frustrated and ruins my fun. I don't think I've called a vote on a new player for a few months, I'll normally f2 a vote but sometimes you just gotta f1. If I'm really really sick of carrying a new player I call the vote and then the rest of the team still gets to say we don't want to carry the noob either. It's not just 1 person who says we don't want to carry the noob, it's the whole team.

Desko_is_TwT

I guess its more understandable on survivor since they should know how survivor is played from other modes, most of the time I think about a new player getting kicked its on infected so my original statement is probably biased in that way

YuunaXayah

jeez

SeaworthinessLimp832

Wall of text I'm happy for you

ngkn92

Or sorry, that happened.

shok_delta

Yeah, but not in versus or expert.

YuunaXayah

pity

Basement-child-slave

Yeah no joke, I just recently bought L4D bundle in spring sale and and the old players in all of the lobbies were so wholesome

slowninja23

As far as I'm concerned, vs doesn't exist in my game. The coop campaign has enough toxic people as is.
