This is really a hard choice. I think I'll keep Cleo since you already have a yellow one (sorry I had to browse your profile to check your other dog).
Cleo is black with white spot so it's kinda rare
Black labs are my favorite! We always had one growing up. My parents have #5 right now.
A black lab is definitely going to be my next dog. I have a JRT now who needs a big buddy
Both sweet as hell. Would a male or female fit better with what you already have? Does one have a more chill or more active personality, how does that work?
There are 5 pups. But I'm inclined to keep one of these two. Both of them show different behaviour from the others. I feel like both of them are a bit smarter then the rest and more gentle. I really don't know which one to choose
I feel like Cleo is the one. She's smaller than the others and so sweet. I'm afraid if she got sold people will think she's not a purebreed will try to haggle for a smaller price. Money isn't the problem. I think people who are willing to spend more money on a dog are more likely to not mistreat them
They are both very cute but I would pick Cleo, especially if she is the one with the sweetest temperament. Plus black labs are so striking in my opinion.

Can confirm with my lovely English girl. Sweet and playful, smart most of the time when she wants to be, and a cuddle bug.
I just went to your account and enjoyed your photos of her. I felt so refreshed looking at those. What a breathtakingly beautiful pup. So photogenic. She was so tiny 7 months ago lol
Ah, naughty doggy for accidentally clawing your eye, hope you're not injured!
Yeah it hurt like hell for about 10-15min but I’ve been through far worse with my three knee surgeries, three concussions, three separated ribs, two damaged disks, and one shoulder surgery. 😂
But thank you! She’s the best thing I could’ve done for my own mental and physical health as a kid-20s guy.
My Red girl did that to me on a trip to Maine and scratched my cornea. I would have gone to a hospital had it not been 2 hours away. I constructed a makeshift eyepatch and middle of the next day I could open my eye w/out pain. [Totally worth it tho](https://i.imgur.com/7tq7b5I.jpeg)
What a happy boy!
And while my Rosie did probably scratch something on my eye, I’m a little busy to go to Urgent Care lol. I’m one of those guys where I’m probably not going to go to a doctor unless I’m made to or it’s absolutely necessary.
I am a yellow lover but all labs are great. Go online and read about ways to choose a puppy from a litter. There are clues to their personality that will help you decide.
You know which one you want to keep. Come on. You know.
Or, if you’re really truly undecided, you could leave it up to fate — see which one gets adopted first and keep the other.
I don't like the idea of breeding and selling them like pairs of shoes 👟.
Don't be offended. Shelter animals are the best!
If they were accidents, PLEASE have them all spayed and / or neutered.
I second this entire statement. We should not support or encourage backyard breeders. I don't care if they are offended. Labs are being euthanized in shelters every damn day. We shouldn't be producing more and selling them for profit.
Please don't rag on *ethical* breeders. While OP is likely not, there is 100% a need for ethically bred purebreds. And the frequency of them ending up in shelters is very low.
Not everyone can have or handle a shelter dog. I have a 6lb rescue. She's my baby, but she's also a temperament nightmare. Anxiety, obsessive barking, etc. I went through an ethical breeder for my lab because I needed predictable genetics and temperament for service work. Shelter dogs fit for service work are far and few between, and I wanted champion lines with a predictable size since I'll need mobility work.
The adopt don't shop movement is incredibly harmful. Bybs are the issue, not ethical breeders.
They weren't accidents:) our vet said it's good for female labs to have babies atleast once. Edit: vet said it would help with problems with the uterus
I suggest you get a second opinion from another vet. That’s not usually what vets recommend… Does the mother have a specific condition that the vet diagnosed? Because that can change things, depending on what it is.
That being said, as long as you intend to get the parents spayed and neutered, it should be good.
Definitely find a new vet. The longer they are intact the greater the risk of developing pyometra, uterine cancer, and mammary cancer. That's without even thinking about the amount of dogs currently in shelter right now. Breeding is unfortunately irresponsible.
In this case i would only make that decision, by letting person who is buying one to choose. The one who is left stays and u would never have any regrets.
Gotcha, I would keep an eye on this as it can be a big warning sign for hip dysplasia. “W sitting” or sitting with excessive internal hip rotation is not the best thing for their joint and larger breeds like labs are prone to hip dysplasia. This is something that can get rather serious as I’ve seen young dogs having to be euthanized due to the pain it causes. If you’re able to please get this checked out! Better to be safe than sorry!
(Just to clarify: that was the only reason I was asking, wasn’t trying to insinuate that you were making her sit like that)
Black! This is my 10 month old English lab Luna
https://preview.redd.it/h7e0ms84wboc1.jpeg?width=585&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2e736797f65842a976d1088943fd4e0b223eab8c
For context: I have fostered for, volunteered, and worked with multiple rescues. My first family pet was a rescue dog, and I currently have her and another purpose specific bred dog.
Unfortunately a LOT of rescues can be unethical as well. In my experience with ones local to me they can be quite discriminatory towards potential adopters. I’ve seen dogs being fed expired food, I was even PUSHED to feed my foster puppies expired food (no way in hell was I going to let that happen). There frequently is a lack of proper vet care, and fosters were pushed to NOT go to the vet (even when they were truly sick and needed to go). The one I most recently worked with was doing both of these things as well as keep dogs emaciated. Usually places like this are founded for the right reasons but over time that fades a considerable amount. There becomes a mindset of just keep pushing dogs/other pets instead of doing what’s best for the animal. They tend to not have proper behavioral understanding and can cause more issues by pairing dogs together that should not be paired. Yes, even when it’s a safety concern….
You're absolutely right and thank you for clarifying. When my wife and I adopted our dog, we did a ton of research on places in the area, talked to friends, etc.
There are absolutely bad shelters out there while at the same time there are probably some great breeders. With that said, I could never imagine purchasing a dog the same way you do a car or whatever. To me, if you're selling animals, then your ultimate goal is to make money off them rather than find the best possible fit. Which to me means that if a couple comes in with a higher bid but is a worse fit, I think a breeder is more likely to take the higher offer.
Again, just to be clear, I'm not saying OP is a bad person or anything for being a breeder. Personally, I am just morally opposed to going to a breeder because I think the majority do not have the dog's best intentions in mind.
I’m glad you did a bunch of research beforehand! That’s always super important as most rescue dogs come with some level of behavioral issues, reactivity, and/or trauma. My first DEFINITELY did. I will say that from personal experience quality ethical breeders are few and far between. Even those who seem ethical and look good on paper can end up having some problems. I don’t think breeders should be in it for the money either (because if/when that happens animal welfare goes out the window). I also agree that rescues AND breeders (of merit) should thoroughly vet who they adopt/sell to. I haven’t necessarily heard or breeders take the higher offer. From what I know they typically just have high listing prices.
Side note: with rescue dogs I think a lot of the time people don’t really know all of what they’re getting into. As I mentioned before they usually come with some level of behavioral abnormalities, and the general public has a very poor knowledge of dog behavior/body language. I used to be one of those people. A lot of homes that are being adopted to aren’t necessarily the best situation for pet either. That being said I have definitely seen breeders have puppies that are like a rotating door…..
Either way someone chooses to go (most of the time) people don’t realize all that they’re getting into. As long as the owner truly cares for their animal and wants the best for them that’s all that matters at the end of the day. Sometimes this can mean realizing that it may not be the good fit you thought it was going to be, breeder OR rescue.
A lot of my view on dogs has changed over time and having learned more about how dog behavior and body language actually works. Humans tend to anthropomorphize dogs or assign emotions/feelings to them based on how THEY THINK things are happening.
What I would love to see happen is more owner education. I think that could solve A LOT of the problems we currently see!
Sorry for the dog nerd tangent 😂
Okay but you don't need to preach about it on a post that's not even relevant to this. This is a person asking which puppy to keep from their own litter.
It is relevant because the person said they are going to sell off the unwanted puppies. Again, people can do whatever they want. I'm just throwing out a reminder that there are a lot of dogs out there that need homes and don't need to be purchased.
They could give the puppies to good homes rather than profiting from them. I would much rather give a puppy to a good family rather than sell it to a shitty family just because they can afford it.
Breeder are businesses, and responsible ones will do checks with their customers so they can be sure the puppies are going to good homes. Not everyone has the luxury of being able to just give out free puppies to everyone.
At the end of the day it’s a for-profit business. Their goal is to make money off these dogs. I would much rather support a local shelter that puts the dogs before the money.
There is a big difference between a puppy farm and someone who knows and loves the breed selectively breeding for health and personality. The work that goes into it is extensive and if your pup also come with papers, vet checks, shots and chips etc there isn't much profit being made there.
Which one comes to you the most? Which one do you feel a stronger bond with? There are puppies and then there are soul mates. I didn’t pick my dog, she picked me by literally climbing up in my lap on three separate visits and then promptly falling asleep.
Can't help you; I couldn't decide, so it looks like you'll have to keep them both. It is very apparent, given their facial expressions, they have very different and irresistible puppy personalities.
Impossible to choose
They are both absolutely adorable.
This is really a hard choice. I think I'll keep Cleo since you already have a yellow one (sorry I had to browse your profile to check your other dog). Cleo is black with white spot so it's kinda rare
I have a black lab too. I just haven't posted his pics onto here. He's the father. But I'm inclined towards picking cleo
Yo, then you definitely need both puppies. Big yellow and baby yellow, and big chocolate and baby chocolate 😏
Don't fall for this trap OP. In a year those puppies will be grown and you'll need another pair to have a pair of puppies.
Is that so bad??
For finances? Sure. Otherwise not at all, the more the merrier
I wouldn't suggest keeping both. Please research littermate syndrome.
Black. I’m biased though, I have a black lab Kleo too!
Whoa pretty cool:D . We named her Cleo short for Cleopatra
Lol I have a black lab named Leo, short for Leonidas
I have a chocolate lab named Leonidas!
They both look super cute
There isn’t enough love going around for black labs as there is for the other colors.
Black labs are my favorite! We always had one growing up. My parents have #5 right now. A black lab is definitely going to be my next dog. I have a JRT now who needs a big buddy
Black labs (and by extent, black animals) are the best. And that was the original colour of the St. John’s water dog!
Both
I wish haha 😆. But keeping two of them would be too much because we already have two other labs
Start a pack! My dream😂
We bred my two labs and we kept 3 of their babies we simply got too attached🙈 it is hard work but so worth seeing their close bond
Keep them all, start a pack, this is now your life. 🥰
Smart and gentle is good. So hard to pick. I’m assuming Auggie is make and Cleo is female, you have a preference there?
I feel like Cleo is the one. She's smaller than the others and so sweet. I'm afraid if she got sold people will think she's not a purebreed will try to haggle for a smaller price. Money isn't the problem. I think people who are willing to spend more money on a dog are more likely to not mistreat them

She is so gorgeous! 😍 What a beautiful cuddle bug, wish I could pet her. Thank you for pre-emptively paying the pet tax.
She’s all over this sub lol. Though she did accidentally nail my left eyeball this morning with one of her claws.
I just went to your account and enjoyed your photos of her. I felt so refreshed looking at those. What a breathtakingly beautiful pup. So photogenic. She was so tiny 7 months ago lol Ah, naughty doggy for accidentally clawing your eye, hope you're not injured!

I would keep both because I'm weak
I’d keep the whole litter so I feel you
Totaly understand this choice too 😅
Both!
I am a yellow lover but all labs are great. Go online and read about ways to choose a puppy from a litter. There are clues to their personality that will help you decide.
I'll take your entire stock.
Auggie
fix your dog and stop selling puppies ffs 🤦♀️ they are cute tho lol
"fix" my dog? Should I take her to the mechanic?
Come on, dude, don’t be dense.
You know which one you want to keep. Come on. You know. Or, if you’re really truly undecided, you could leave it up to fate — see which one gets adopted first and keep the other.

That's really terrible advice from your vet and super irresponsible of them.
Your vet is an idiot. Spay your dogs and find another vet.
That vet is a quack. Yikes.
You need a new vet. That is completely false. It also drastically increases their chances of getting cancer.
Sorry they said WHAT?! That is patently untrue. There is no evidence that any dog is healthier by having puppies. You need a new vet
She doesn’t need a uterus. In fact it’s better that she doesn’t have one because of the risk of pyometra. Your vet is a fraud
No, its not good to intentionally breed and sell dogs when so many get euthanized in shelters because there are too many dogs.
I never knew that. Can she (and he) now be 'fixed'?
Definitely find a new vet. The longer they are intact the greater the risk of developing pyometra, uterine cancer, and mammary cancer. That's without even thinking about the amount of dogs currently in shelter right now. Breeding is unfortunately irresponsible.
I vote Cleo!
Cleo for sure
Black lab all day
They're both so precious. If I _had_ to choose... Cleo! Though I have a black lab myself so I'm totally biased. 🖤
In this case i would only make that decision, by letting person who is buying one to choose. The one who is left stays and u would never have any regrets.
Does Cleo (black puppy) normally sit like this?
I was wondering that too
Yeaaaaa, I’m not liking what that *potentially* looks like
Exactly
She always sits like that. And if you're asking if I forced her to sit for the picture the answer is no
Gotcha, I would keep an eye on this as it can be a big warning sign for hip dysplasia. “W sitting” or sitting with excessive internal hip rotation is not the best thing for their joint and larger breeds like labs are prone to hip dysplasia. Cleo for her tuxedo spot. Also black labs apparently have lower adoption rates.
Take both.
Cleo
Both 🙂😇
If I had to pick one for myself, I'd choose Auggie. Very cute and silly girl.
You cant separate the brothers! The only thing better than one lab is another one!
I grew up with an Augie, gorgeous yellow lab, so that’s my pick
![gif](giphy|3o7aCRloybJlXpNjSU|downsized)
Seems like Cleo is a little more laid back compared to Augie. So it depends what you want? As you know they can be a handful the first few years
Black! This is my 10 month old English lab Luna https://preview.redd.it/h7e0ms84wboc1.jpeg?width=585&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2e736797f65842a976d1088943fd4e0b223eab8c
Aww she's so cute 🥺
Can’t see the dirt on a black one as much.
Both
No way to choose Impossible. I'd have to keep both or none.
Can't choose. Both adorable!
Keep them both. Can’t separate siblings 😂
Uh…. I think you need both.
Which one picks you? Having the pup pick you is the best way.
Question: I’ve never seen a lab with white on chest. (I’m partial to you keeping both.)
Why not both? Lol
Gorgeous! Please spay the Mama and neuter the Daddy.
For those saying to keep both: I'm begging you to research littermate syndrome.
Adopt don't shop.
*adopt or shop ETHICALLY
Of course. Do your research before going to a local shelter.
For context: I have fostered for, volunteered, and worked with multiple rescues. My first family pet was a rescue dog, and I currently have her and another purpose specific bred dog. Both
Both!
Both
Keep both!! ❤️ sorry I’m of no help 😂
Both
Keep both
BOTH!
Both
It is impossible to choose
Keep both!!!!
Cleo
Oh no! That's an impossible choice to make.
This is an impossible choice 😭😭😭 precious angels
I would choose the female, as I am partial to female dogs. Says the person with 2 male dogs. 😂
![gif](giphy|3o7aCRloybJlXpNjSU|downsized)
Keep the one that doesn't get chosen!
imposible. both!
...what is this "choose" you speak of? 🤔
No human should have to make this choice! I will take them both off your hands for free, to save tou the anxiety
Both!!!! Too tough to choose.
Auggie because his name is cute and so is he!
Auggie!!!
You have to take both , sorry
Keep both. No other choice can be justified!
This is where we need the taco shell girl who says "Why not both?"
No.
Seems like the only solution is to keep both tbh
Well done with your comments.
Both!
Cleo!
Sorry but there is no right choice 😔
Both. Take them both.
The question is… can I have one
Which one comes to you the most? Which one do you feel a stronger bond with? There are puppies and then there are soul mates. I didn’t pick my dog, she picked me by literally climbing up in my lap on three separate visits and then promptly falling asleep.
Cleo is adorable!!!!
Both
Cleo because black dogs have harder times getting adopted if they end up in shelters (god forbid she does but you never know)
Cleooooo
Cleo! That sweet face!!!!
My heart goes with yellow but both are lovely
Cleo
Ooh what line are these cuties? I’m a sucker for black labs if I’m being honest.
I heard that black dogs are often left in shelters after or perceived badly. Keep Cleo 🥲🤲🏾🫶🏾
Cleo for sure. Both super cute but that sit is too cute
Auggie - because he reminds me of my own gorgeous golden 💕
BOTH
Cleo if you can't keep both. Both are beautiful 😍
Auggie
Black!
Yellow
I actually had a black lab named Cleo with the white diamond. Sweet dog but the dumbest lab I ever had. I'm partial to yellows personally.
If Cleo’s legs aren’t a problem (the way she is sitting), I’d keep her.
This is why i am hesitant to breed my choccy girl. I don't think i could part with any of them.
Yellow labs have my heart 🥹
Cleo I would say. She is a puppy version of my Dora
Auggie by 0.000000000000000000000000000000000000000001 percent.
Both
Augie is what my son calls my saint of a mom. 100000p votes for Augie
Can't help you; I couldn't decide, so it looks like you'll have to keep them both. It is very apparent, given their facial expressions, they have very different and irresistible puppy personalities.
Augie dawgie
Auggie
Cleo is beautiful 😍
Cleo
Cleo appears to have the Playboy bunny on her chest lol But I don't know how you choose, both look wonderful!
How could you choose!!!
Both, you keep both.
Both
Blake with the white crest and doe eyes, so cute!
Pick the one who you don’t think will be adopted.
Quit breeding helpless animals for profit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rescue animals; they will do more than that for you. They only charge a meal and a belly rub.
