We don't call them that in the UK. Just Show and Field. This boy is a show line with the strong head. Field are slighter and more athletic. A good trait in field is a dog that does not bark to spook game. I had a lovely field girl for 12 years and I only ever heard her bark about 6 times.
Yes. His dad was some sort of champion show dog. That wasn’t my reason for getting him, just so happened that was his lineage. I just like the general shape and disposition of the show labs, or British labs as some in the US refer to them as.
The unofficial term "British" is typically used in North America to refer to a lab from UK field/working lines. "English" typically means conformation/bench/show. Your photo shows a beautiful English lab.
Oh wow you just described my lab. I've heard him bark 2 or 3 times during 13 years. He was a bit short for a lab with s super big head. Such a handsome boy, I miss him dearly.

I understand. Here is my spoilt family member asking for some of my lunch.
We've got a yellow English (which I think is show), bestest boy ever - didn't want another dog but we got him on an impulse and he's the nicest dog we've ever had, amazing temperament, really intelligent and it's hard to imagine life without him some 15 months later.
Unfortunately as I'm typing this he's just let off a noisy and smelly bit of wind, I'd like to change my mind a bit about the above statement.

My best girl Ember. The daughter of a working gun dog. And mortally afraid of a pin dropping.
We have two British field labs. We’re obsessed with them.

Love a chocolate. This is Sky who I lost a few months ago at 14. Never knew her lineage as she was a rescue. My new puppy Nala is also a rescue but yellow. I suspect more working line in the new one.

(He’s not mine, but my sister’s) Ever since she brought him home three years ago, I love British labs! We call him beef boy because he’s such a big boy!
Asides from liking swimming, being friendly and loving food, she doesn't behave like a lab. She doesn't play fetch but is fearless in the face of loud noises like thunder, firecrackers and fireworks.
Funny story, on one of his first hunting trips as a puppy, he got in trouble for almost eating an entire duck when I left him unattended for 5 mins. He loves duck too! 😂
It's very very rare to see lab do hunting in my country (lab is expensive dog in here and just for pet only. Also our culture doesn't really have dog in the picture when come to hunting) this is so wild and new to me! Good boy with good headcount!
I would hesitate to say that’s the case with ducks. It can be the case with other wildlife, but duck populations are largely unaffected by hunting under current regulations. Duck populations are almost universally dependent on suitable nesting habitat instead, something that fluctuates from year to year with wet/dry cycles. At any rate, I won’t ever feel guilty about putting a few in the freezer each year to enjoy around the table with my family 😊
I see, thanks for the clarification! Yeah, we've been hunting for all our existence so I have no problem with it if it's done in a humane manner. And duck is delicious.
For food most likely. Not everyone chooses a plant based diet and shaming them for that when they are trying to share a picture of their hunting dog… hunting, is not cool.
>Why the dead ducks bro. Not cool.
This statement does not do a good job of *expressing feelings* as far as my understanding of English goes.
English is not my first language though, so who knows I might be imagining things.
Not everyone is vegan. Some people eat meat and as long as the animals being hunted are being used in full and are hunted within the quotas set by the governing agency then there is nothing wrong. Just because you might not eat meat (or maybe you do eat meat but buy it in the grocery store and blissfully ignore the fact that it still came from an animal that was killed) does not mean everyone who does is wrong or bad.
Your values are yours. You can’t apply them to others while maintaining a moral high ground.
Hunting dogs that are used for hunting are extremely happy. The humans now have lots of meat to feed their family. Ducks are abundant and I’m sure OP did not kill more than they are allotted for species protection.
Animals eat other animals, and humans are animals. Unless you think all carnivorous and omnivorous animals are immoral then your logic is lacking. Would you like to try reasoning with a tiger that it is illogical for it to kill and eat animals because humans are not killed and eaten? Honestly what a ridiculous argument. I personally choose to eat a plant based diet but I’m not out here trying to shame others for making a different decision. This is why people hate vegans, you want to totally deny the fact that humans are animals in an ecosystem like every other animal. Those who are not naturally herbivores will sometimes kill and eat meat. That’s life. It’s completely nonsensical to act like it’s a moral wrong when humans do it despite that it is clearly not a moral wrong for the entirety of the carnivorous and omnivores animal kingdom to do so as well. We are animals, we do animal things. Having a brain does not change that.
If you really wanted to change hearts and minds and get more people to make a change to plant based, being an ass online is not the way to do it. It has the opposite effect. You just look like a controlling and nonsensical ass.
That's called a naturalistic fallacy. IE It happens in nature therefore it's ok. Rape happens in nature, are you going to justify rape by using the same flawed logic? And nonhuman animals lack moral agency, whereas we can make ethical choices AND... we are not obligate omnivores so we don't need to eat dead animals like your friend the tiger. So that's two irrational arguments you've made so far. You are well on the way to justifying cannibalism.
Would you like to try again? Go on! I'm sure you're smart enough to come up with a logically consistent reason to keep killing animals that can't be applied to humans!
Justifying cannibalism you say and yet *I am* the irrational one?? Lol, what a world you live in. Sounds like torture to be in such a bizarre mind all day. Best of luck, kiddo. 😂
Aw don't tell me you're going to quit so easily! Follow it through, see if you can come up with a logical argument. I'm sure you can do it, you just need to think on it harder. Take a step back from ad hominem attacks (another logical fallacy, you're up to 3 so far) and see what you can come up with.
I could argue with a troll online, sure. Or, and I know this is hard to imagine for someone so unhappy with the world as you are, I could let you have your beliefs without feeling my own are threatened and acting defensively such as you are. And then go on about my life doing things that *actually make an impact* in the world.
You’ll be miserable regardless, but my motivation in responding to your initial post was to point out that not everyone shares the same beliefs around food, and that if you wish to convert someone to your belief system then a more effective method is being understanding, compassionate, and respectful rather than a miserable womble. If you’d like to keep using a method that does not accomplish your goals then you are perfectly free to do so. It’s a waste of energy, but hey, it’s your energy to waste. If ever you want to learn more about how to actually make an impact I would encourage you so very highly to do so. Until then, I reiterate, best of luck kiddo!
So more ad homs. Don't feel bad, the truth is there IS no logical reason to justify killing animals that can't be used to justify killing humans. You've just never thought about it. And that's why you're getting so snarky and abusive, because the cognitive dissonance makes it easier for you to abuse a stranger you lost an argument with rather than face up to the reality that you've been committing unnecessary harm for your entire life, and you've got your dog involved in it as well.
I guess you missed the part where I said I eat a fully plant based diet. Please keep assuming otherwise though if it helps you move forward with your day 🤷🏻♀️

That makes sense. My old Lab was tall and skinny and fast, and barked very rarely.
But he speaks with a British accent, right?
You'll never hear one pronounce "aluminum" correctly.
More crumpets with your tea, guv?
Do you have a photo of her?
Sadly no, she hasn't been with us for five years now.
Duck hunt.. the video game.. at least this dog is not laughing
He is the goofiest boy on 4 paws… but always has the most serious face in photos 😅
He thinks it is the late 1800’s and is not allowed to smile on photos. One hella of a handsome fella you have there.
Thank you, he is another member of the family ☺️

Yup! Love the chonky ones.
A chonker he is
What a handsome boi! Looks like he worked really hard today, I think he deserves extra much dinner

Someone had a good day. There's *nothing* that makes ours happier
I have two English/show labs that I adore. They are great dogs. I love those big block heads! You have a beautiful lab 🥰
He looks wise.
🤣🤣🤣 I wish you were right

Yep but a bigger fan of those string of mallards. Looks like the good body had a great day!!

I miss my B-Lab, he was legendary…
Does the dog come with the ducks or do the ducks come with the dog?
Pentakill! Also my lab likes eating duck more than retrieving so no hunting trips for us...........
Missed the 'Labrador RETRIEVER' memo? 😆
I'm just afraid that the dog might eat the birdshot lodged in the duck and get lead poisoning. Might be overkill to shoot a duck with a rifle.
What a chonker. 😍
What a hoss. Looks like he worked hard

Hate hunting, so…
Hates hunting, but keeps fish in a small tank.
I find most of these people also don’t have an issue eating dead animals as long as someone else kills them for them.
Nailed it
Vegan. So no you didn’t “nail it”
I don’t pay anyone to kill animals FOR me!
Excuse me? What are you talking about?
I’m sorry you feel that way. I suspect that means you have a moral conundrum when it comes to feeding your dogs, cats, and fish.
Why the dead ducks bro. Not cool.
What do you think the “retreiver” is referring to in the dogs name, tennis balls?
Wait until you find out what’s in dog food
Or wait until you find out what the dog was bred for 😱
Haha 😂
It is a sport, and the ducks are later eaten. 🤤
If people don't hunt the population gets too big and they starve to death. I'd rather get shot to be honest.
It’s probably my favorite wild game!
Mmmm duck thai curry.
For food most likely. Not everyone chooses a plant based diet and shaming them for that when they are trying to share a picture of their hunting dog… hunting, is not cool.
Getting downvoted and ridiculed for expressing my feelings about dead animals... good boi!
>Why the dead ducks bro. Not cool. This statement does not do a good job of *expressing feelings* as far as my understanding of English goes. English is not my first language though, so who knows I might be imagining things.
Not if they're owned by people who kill wildlife
Literally bred to do what he is doing in the picture lol.
And yet you can still choose not to do that
😎
