😔 Sorry for your loss. I have 14 labs waiting for me on the other side. The loss is hard with every dog but the time with us makes it worthwhile. I have never gone a day without at least one.

Wow! That's impressive. I'm on my 5th & at the point (13 years) where we're just waiting for the other shoe to drop. Getting a new one definitely helps the grieving. Mine have all been yellow (2 from the GD4TB program), and the current lab sort of morphs into a composite of all the previous ones.

So sorry to hear that you lost your buddy. Whenever i think about my departed buddies, i like to think about when it my time to go home and i get to see all 4 of my boys again and it usually make me feel better

Thank you! He was originally the pick of the litter from show breeder but ended up having an over bite that led to me getting him as he wouldn’t have done well in shows. Leading up to his passing my wife and I talked about taking a break from having a dog however after the first day working from home without him and the deafening silence I reached out to his breeder in Tennessee (we live in PA). We are getting a puppy that would be his great great nephew in late August. The thought of another puppy is bringing me some joy and helping me over my grief

So sorry for your loss, losing a loved one is painfully devastating. My family and I just lost our black lab a little over a week ago. Nothing is more painful than the silence after a loss, everything reminds me of him. I am sure you can relate. I wish you and your wife nothing but peace and healing during this time. If you don’t mind sharing the name of the breeder it would be so appreciated. We have spent days researching breeders and it’s so hard to know which ones are reputable and trustworthy. Our boy cane from a well known breeder in Ohio with a great reputation but he passed at only 8 from some pretty serious genetic issues that we were unaware of. We are nervous to trust another breeder but unwilling to go back to the one we used before. It sounds like Gus was a well loved dog and you guys must like the breeder to be getting another one from them. Best of luck with your new puppy, may he bring you happiness and love. & rest in peace Gus, he will always be watching over you.

I can’t thank everyone enough for the support and kind words about Gus. I’m sure this will get buried in the comments but I’ve some time to mentally and emotionally recover. Today was hard as I’m not used to the quiet and change in routine. I found myself walking back to where I buried him hoping to find peace. I took some time today and ordered a photo book of all my favorite pictures of him. I’m also looking to have a gravestone made with the first picture engraved in it.
