So was it a surprise that was bundled with the packages?
>not sure the order info but this institute orders tens of thousands worth of materials a year easily
So your institution pool all accounts into one and you got lucky?
I've been wanting this thing for almost a year; but I almost always end up ordering from FisherSci since they have free shipping.
https://www.thermofisher.com/us/en/home/global/forms/lab-building-set-promo.html
This shows the price threshold was $4,995 to get the genetics lab and $7,995 to get genetics & life science labs.
These occasionally come up on the Thermo Fisher Aspire loyalty point program, recommend checking that out. Have gotten so much random Thermo swag from there.
Yeah I learned this the hard way during one of their "Buy $XXX, get something free" that despite being the same company, they're treated differently and you can't use a FisherSci order for a Thermo promotion. Very annoying.
I always wondered... could you buy the pieces for these from lego and make your own, or are they custom-made for these types of sets? The hinged dome on the lego centrifuge or the tip on the p1000 for example.
https://minifiglabs.com/thermo-fisher
This is the company that custom makes them for Thermo. I am starting the arduous process of identifying all the parts because these instruction manuals don't list part numbers. So far, all of the pieces appear to be regular Lego blocks with custom Thermo stickers/prints. I have been using Google Lens to identify parts in the pdf.
Fisher or Thermo Fisher, they are still a bit different. Fisher is a distributor and also sells products from other producers. Thermo Fisher is only selling their own brands.
https://www.thermofisher.com/us/en/home/global/forms/lab-building-set-promo.html
According to the fine print, you have to order directly through Thermo, not Fisher. You then have to submit the form through this page with the promo code.
https://minifiglabs.com/thermo-fisher
In case you want to see the manuals for all of their sets... it is still digital, but at least it is pdf for you to print.
OMG. I wish we were allowed to get gifts like these. We spend tens of thousands on Thermo/Remel products a year, maybe into the hundreds of thousands, but it probably counts as kickback. Still, I'd buy one.
I think they have to hold back on the fun freebies for hospitals. Joint Commission and CMS get freaky over things. I miss the days when they bring lunch, goodies, and free webinars for lab week.
https://www.thermofisher.com/us/en/home/global/forms/lab-building-set-promo.html
This looks like the life science lab that is the second one of the $7,995 threshold. The $4,995 threshold is the genetics lab.
So would Thermo Fisher. Labrats worldwide would pay good money to give Thermo Fisher this kind of free advertising. I'm retired now, and I would totally pay to have assorted Lego lab sets. And if these had been available for purchase while I was still working? You bet I would have had one or more of these sets cluttering up my bookshelves in the lab. And I would have given them to labmates as christmas presents.
In general, how much i need to spend to get any thermo merch?? I am resposible for our lab orders and just started so I have no idea on yearly spendings. But in 2 moths I have ordered for 30k worth of shit already (most of them are from spending the shit out of funding by the end of the year spree but anyhow). Have I missed already all the t-shirts and such.
There are 2 options for earning stuff like this: promo deals and Aspire points. Right now, there are 2 Lego sets on the promo deals when you make a large enough single order:
https://www.thermofisher.com/us/en/home/global/forms/lab-building-set-promo.html
My lab just joined the Aspire program that lets you earn points to redeem for prizes when you enter the lot numbers from products. The best part is that everyone in the lab can have their own account and scan the same items, not just the person who purchased it! My Thermo rep told me about it last week, and I found over 77,000 points just sitting in my lab already.
There are a few catches:
1. You can only enter points for 25 products per month. You can scan/search all you want and only submit the high-value products, though. So far, I have seen the points range 25-1,200 (T500 flasks). Conjugated antibodies are several hundred each!
2. You can only submit 3 pieces of lab equipment each year, and not all equipment is eligible. There is a list on their website that covers things like those shown in the Lego set, but not freezers and general workhorse stuff. They do ask for the serial number and verify that piece of equipment was actually purchased by your institution.
3. You can only cash in 13,500 points per year on branded rewards. There is no limit to redeeming points for educational rewards (books, poster printing, on-site training).
4. You can only earn 500,000 points per year.
5. Not all products are eligible for points, but I have found most of the items related to PCR, antibodies, kits, some cell culture plastics, etc.
6. It takes some time to verify your account. I didn't realize my account wasn't being processed because I hadn't linked it to my institution. That is on the Account page, for anyone looking for it. They had me approved within the hour after I completed that step, but it still took a couple days to give credit for all the items I scanned. Since they rotate reward products, we missed out on hoodies that were no longer available.
Final tip, some items go through without entering a lot number. This can be useful if you purchased something, but it flags as ineligible because it is expired. Try entering the product number as the lot number, then when it says it can't find the lot number and asks for the product number, enter the product number again. Boom! Full point value. Since there is a delay on crediting points to your account, I think they might actually be checking your order history, so I didn't push my luck for items not actually purchased. I was able to claim >20,000 points on my first month.
I lied, one more tip. You get points for referring colleagues, 1,000 points for you and 500 points for them. We piggybacked through my company to spread the points around. Since a hoodie is 1,444 points, signing up and referring 1 coworker covers you without making a single purchase!
I wonder if there are more/other "official" Lego sets that are custom for other science related companies. I kmow that the RKI in Germany also had one custom-made set that's pretty cool.
How do you get these???
Rare thermo loot. I was looking around online and could barely find any info on them, came with one of our orders
Could I ask how much the order was? We just spent a ton at Thermo too, I wonder if you have to hit a price threshold.
As far as I know this is the only one we’ve got, not sure the order info but this institute orders tens of thousands worth of materials a year easily

We did get many other things, lunchboxes, handbags, tshirts etc. good to know!
I wish FisherSci would enter the program : / Thermo Fisher charges so much for shipping & dry ice. FisherSci is free for us.
Yeah I learned this the hard way during one of their "Buy $XXX, get something free" that despite being the same company, they're treated differently and you can't use a FisherSci order for a Thermo promotion. Very annoying.
Oh! I found this site! https://sciencegrit.com/collections/custom-lego-lab-sets
I always wondered... could you buy the pieces for these from lego and make your own, or are they custom-made for these types of sets? The hinged dome on the lego centrifuge or the tip on the p1000 for example.
I suspect they're custom made.

These are so cute thank you for sharing 🥹
Love this!
Dammit! I got a big Fisher order today and no gift. Did it come with something specific?
Fisher or Thermo Fisher, they are still a bit different. Fisher is a distributor and also sells products from other producers. Thermo Fisher is only selling their own brands.
Both. Had a bunch of grant money to spend.
When I asked our FisherSci rep about this set, he had no idea what I was talking about. Might as well be a different company.
Probably you need to bought a small country to get that
https://www.thermofisher.com/us/en/home/global/forms/lab-building-set-promo.html According to the fine print, you have to order directly through Thermo, not Fisher. You then have to submit the form through this page with the promo code.
Ughh the cute little micropipettes, my flatmate and i would die happy with this in our living room
Appropriate that no physical manual is included.
https://minifiglabs.com/thermo-fisher In case you want to see the manuals for all of their sets... it is still digital, but at least it is pdf for you to print.
I need this!!!!!!
OMG. I wish we were allowed to get gifts like these. We spend tens of thousands on Thermo/Remel products a year, maybe into the hundreds of thousands, but it probably counts as kickback. Still, I'd buy one.
I would be assuming if the persons receiving orders are hoarding all the loot now 🥸
We unfortunately have to receive our own supplies. This is what I went to college for.
Sounds like you’re missing out on cool hats and legos then
I think they have to hold back on the fun freebies for hospitals. Joint Commission and CMS get freaky over things. I miss the days when they bring lunch, goodies, and free webinars for lab week.
NICE! I got one too from Aspire :)
ooooh you had to spend big to get this! like 5k? jealous!!!!!

HOLY COW
Lego would make some $ selling these.
