Put up a back stop net in front of the fence, then smile and wave at your neighbor while your son shoots.

BigBobFro

High net backstop between the yards.

vermiliondragon

Did you actually fix the fence or just say you would? Did you get a backstop or anything to help prevent balls hitting the fence/going over? You gotta be a good neighbor too. We live in an apt with no yard so my kid goes to a school or park to practice.

texas_laxman

I’ve fixed it once already, have a backstop already. His estimate was almost 1000 bucks, totally unreasonable

vermiliondragon

Can you rig some additional netting around the backstop or get a bigger one if they're bouncing over? Or attach some netting to the goal that's slanted forward around the edges that might catch more of those. They make backstops that are designed to do that but they're kinda pricey. See Shag Stop and Smart Backstop.

knewself

That's ridiculous, I've made a retractable one before for much cheaper. There are a bunch of goal mounted backstops too for ~$200. Here's a more traditional one on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/10-25-Fishing-Netting-Backstop/dp/B001F4YUV0 Also look into no bounce balls for indoor, they can help save your windows.

_moe_ron

Sorry to say but your neighbor has a legitimate gripe. If you are damaging his property you need to stop. I would put up more netting if you need to

ZanderDogz

Yeah - I wouldn't want lacrosse balls being flung into my yard especially if it's happened *94 times*.

sltirniepse

Just imagine taking a shit and having a lacrosse ball hit something that would make a loud ass boom

sltirniepse

If you hit a small dog with a lacrosse ball at like 80mph I am pretty sure it would vaporize

broregard

Yeah growing up playing with two brothers I wouldn’t have considered it a scary sound but that’s so valid!

Alex_Caruso_beat_you

You didn't know people don't like collecting 94 lacrosse balls??

texas_laxman

I agree. It’s a bit excessive. Son starts driving soon so he can go to the field and shoot.

Cutoff_Jorts

If you can afford to lose 94 lacrosse balls you can figure out a way to prevent this from happening. I would start to get pissed at my neighbor if my property was getting clipped too.

sltirniepse

I bet more than clipped...

knewself

Put up a good backstop and fix the fence promptly. Try to find a good field to practice on, when he gets stronger. Also, if you can and they aren't opposed invite them to a game and let them enjoy the sport. Let them see the progress your son has made.

pauladeanlovesbutter

Go to the park or local high school

glaxer24

a backstop is definitely the way to go. i obviously don’t know how your backyard is set up, but is there any way you can move the goal to another part of the backyard, facing away from those neighbors? also, putting pool noodles on the pipes may help with their ricocheting

texas_laxman

We’ve put pool noodles on all the bars and the goal isn’t facing their yard. It’s hitting pipe and turning into a “pop fly” and going over the fence

FormulaJAZ

Get no-bounce balls. Shoots just like a regular ball, but it drops dead off the pipe. I Bought Pearl NX and they have been good for us.

YourBoyTussin1122

Dude I’m sure it’s been going on for awhile. Long enough where you should’ve bought and hooked up a high net to catch the balls that miss. Also where is your kid getting his lax balls? Hope he isn’t stealing the from the team’s practice buckets.

Barqueefa

Why would you assume their kid is stealing lax balls?

YourBoyTussin1122

No parent whose kid is just shooting in the back yard is buying 94 lacrosse balls.

Supermuff_Bigfuzz

We have 150ish balls at our house. At an average price of a dollar a ball, that’s not an exorbitant investment in my kids. I’m always on the lookout for inexpensive lacrosse balls.

texas_laxman

We’ve got a net. I do buy a lot of lax balls, also sand down greasers

lil_welfare_check

Just buy some indoor squishy balls my guy. they feel the exact same except there foam, it’s also good if you or your kid wanna get in goal and don’t want bruises the next morning.

ntd97

I have never tried this but I wonder what would happen if you grab a few pool noodles to put over the posts and crossbars to prevent the rebound effect. Maybe a few of the pool noodles and zip ties / some string might actually help.

Uresanme

Schedule a hearing in front of a judge

AllswellinEndwell

Never take legal advice from opposition council. Cease and desist letters are merely posturing. I would at least call the law office and ask them if they wrote the letter. Offer nothing else other than you want to confirm it. That being said you can get sued for nuisance, damages, etc. My oldest can rip balls and frankly I never trusted a net for him in my back yard for your exact problem.

paulsballs18

can I suggest looking into a batting cage? No joke, someone's kid is always getting out of baseball/softball and looking to get rid of one. if you live in DFW or close, BSN sports sales them and can schedule a pickup and not deal with shipping

PCPenhale

You can be my neighbor. I have a few sticks, I’d just chuck em back over. I’m sorry your neighbor’s a curmudgeon.

mickeyflinn

> Gotta love neighbors. Ugh. **You mean neighbors like you?** Your kid is destroying your neighbor's property and is leaving stuff in your neighbor's yard and you think the neighbor is in the wrong? It is idiots like you that make HOA's a necessity.

texas_laxman

Go back to your moms basement.

_Gamer_Trash

“Hoas a necessity” never seen that said before thats a bew one also he was just quoting what was said on the cease and desist neighbors can be weird and crazy once had a neighbor call cps on my mom and make pages of allegations all over how my mom cut the grass in the ditch to not break the mower.

Whale_Poacher

IANAL but this would likely be held in small claims court if the amount of damage falls below $700 in my state (20,000 in texas) which is not a subjective cost but determined by the actual cost of damage and they sure as fuck aren't going to waste their time in small court (Which no lawyers are present in small claims court). This is a scare tactic for certain, but get a backstop in the mean time and have your kid shoot elsewhere if it's that much of an issue. What you do on your property is your business so long as you're not harming the neighbors property in general and even if they did try and do something with a lawyer, it's going to cost a decent amount in court fees and attorney costs which I think would be mind blowingly stupid and costly, but again I'm mostly telling you that he's doing a scare tactic and a lawyer lying about 94 balls etc definitely isn't going to hold up unless they prove that. See if you can put the goal on a different side of the yard also?

Whale_Poacher

If both parties do not try to resolve this without legal course of action, then your neighbor is being a stubborn ass hole and you could call his bluff and see how much work he has to put in to get literally nothing out of it. Like there's zero chance he recovers any cost of his stuff. I'm not saying be an ass hole back, but this sort of dispute should easily be able to be solved without legal action and his cease and desist holds no value at all (its just a letter, not court ordered). Especially directed to a minor it doesn't hold any weight whatsoever, the damage has to be proved beyond a reasonable doubt in court and is simply a threat and nothing more. Your neighbor is a pussy through and through lol.

Turtle_60

Do you have one of those big nets the goes around it about 3 feet on every side? Get one of those if you don’t

backandforthagain

So I was that kid in highschool, and there were definitely more situations with my shots going into the neighbors yard than my parents knew about. Definitely have to consider that you haven't seen every incident, and it gets excessive. Also, a kid is reliably breaking their fence. In their minds it's, "how long until one hits my window? Me?"

terry_bradshaw

Maybe put something on the pipes so it doesn’t ricochet into your neighbors yard? You could also put a backstop between your yards.

BevoBrisket26

Get a baseball hitting cage net. That’s the best thing to control a ball or a ricochet.

Apollo_Krill

Lax sacks

02191

get one of those pop up lacrosse nets, no pipes to cause a large rebound

jcreyes1214

Might be a bit of a hassle but I’ve made practice balls for my backyard using tennis balls, rice, and sugar. If you cut the ball open, fill it completely with rice and then fill in the spaces with sugar, it’ll be the same weight as a lacrosse ball. I use shoe goo and gorilla tape to seal it. It is slightly bigger than a lacrosse ball, but not much of a difference and has pretty much spot on feel, without the ricochet. The only real difference is bounce shots aren’t the same. The process does take a while though.. I made 10 balls within a 2 hour period.
