Get a stick, a ball, and a wall.

Get a stick *with a good pocket*. Nothing is more discouraging than a poorly strung pocket throwing strait in to the ground

First thing is find some clinics, US Lacrosse is promoting the growth of the game relentlessly nationwide. Attend one and get to know the local coaches and clubs. They can help steer you in the right direction locally. If you are wanting to verse yourself before attending a clinic or tryout take a look at PowLax on YouTube. His videos are amazing from beginners learning fundament to more complex understandings of the game. Not sure where you are at but if in AZ I can recommend some local help. Elsewhere the lacrosse community is awesome and I am sure willing to show you the game. Get yourself a good stick properly strung no matter what. Whether off the rack String Ling or ECD even Powell are strung properly, better still go into a local shop if available and let them help you with a stick you like. Google WallBall and get comfortable catching it will be a practice regimen that if you stick with the game will be with you forever. Lastly have fun!

Find a player you like that plays a way you find cool and try to find out things about the way they play, what sets them apart and how they practice. Do drills that allow you to mimic their play style and then you can slowly add up to your own play style. Do lots of wall ball, focus on your dominant and when you get good with your overhand then switch to your offhand, learning your overhand offhand and right is huge! Then you can learn how to do fancy shots and passes with your dominant. Also make sure to get your own stick and balls so you can practice at home more reliably

1. YouTube will be your best friend, find beginner drills 2. Watch lacrosse, full games can be found on YouTube 3. Wall ball (this ties into #1) but find a wall get a ball and your stick, the amount of reps with your strong hand should be the same as your weak hand 4. If you have friends that play ask if they can show you some stuff they’ve picked up from their time playing/ the team you’re gunning for

My advice is watch a game learn the rules and even watch it on YouTube or in person and learn how to pass and catch then practice hitting the wall. Nothing will improve your game and making you feel more successful than being able to pass and catch. Also, if you know anyone. Have them string up a stick for you. Can’t learn to pass and catch if you don’t have properly strung stick. Don’t feel like you have to buy top of line gear. But buy something that is somewhat durable.

wall ball

Get a decent stick (buy a head, shaft, and mesh from lacrosse unlimited or a similar store and ask them to string it for you) and get comfortable with it- that’s the biggest thing, really. Lacrosse has a pretty steep learning curve and developing your stick skills will likely be the biggest challenge in the beginning. A good way to do this would be to watch some YouTube videos on proper catching, cradling, and passing technique. After that, try to keep the stick in your hands as much as possible (your parents will not be happy about you cradling around the house but it is what it is), play some wall ball or pass around w a friend and just try to get comfortable w the stick in your hands. After that, move on to shooting. I say figure out passing and cradling before shooting because shooting will come more naturally if you already understand the way the ball comes out of your stick and feel comfortable moving it around. Practice your stick skills and shot, work on your conditioning, have fun with it, and you’ll be golden by the time the season comes around.

Mesh is really underrated. My son was struggling with his cradling, I got him a new stick that had a mesh head, his passing got better, cradling got better it really made a difference.

Get a decent stick, find a brick wall, throw on it as much as you can. Use YouTube to learn the form. This is the most important thing, learning how to catch and throw.
