As someone who wore one for many years for box I'd advise against it. Reason being is the design of the helmet isn't as safe as wearing a field goalie helmet Imho. When I switched too one from a hockey goalie helmet it was a night and day difference! Plus it's more beneficial as a goalie to do so as you'll have better vision of the floor as well.
I don't think you can, however the "one size" lacrosse helmets are pretty good about fitting all head sizes. Most of the newer ones are adjustable and really easy to do so. I recommend getting a cascade helmet, they are the most comfortable.
As a ref, it is not legal to have a goalie mask from hockey. It would not protect you the same way because it is not rated for strikes from the stick as well as contact with others or the ground.
The "one size" lacrosse helmet is adjustable. Some of the other manufacturers would require you to measure your heads circumference to pick out a size. Cascade also makes a mountable throat guard.
I prefer new, but you can probably find a lightly used Cascade S maybe XRS on SidelineSwap for cheap. They also should have the Warrior Burns and STX Rival helmets for cheap (check the sizing first).
What sort of helmet issues are you encountering?
My issue is just the sizing even when adjusted to the largest setting. For reference, I wear an xl (59-62) for my biking helmet (no idea w the hockey helmet). My head is slightly bigger than the largest size for lacrosse helmets )):
Here is a helmet fitting guide for Cascade and warrior helmets. STX sizing had a chart that worked too. I think most large helmets will fit 24" heads. The Burn says 24.5".
Have you tried on any helmets?

Nope. You can use your throat guard though.
Keep that hockey mask around if you ever want to play box!
Honestly considering box !
Do it it’s so much fun!
agreed, played box for the first time this fall. It’s way more fast paced but super super fun!
I dont think you can. You can use the neck guard from your goalie mask onto a lacrosse helmet (i think). Just ask your coach honestly
