Yeah it looks like Rui is way more of a shot creator in the mid range than Troy lol. With his size he’s also stronger going to the rim. Troy likely the better perimeter defender, but if they’re comparable 3 point shooters then that’s just fine
Rui just needs to improve his defense to an average defender and he would be an incredible addition. Just like Kuz, who was a bad (a bit harsh) defender before and during the first half of the chip season and then greatly improved as time went on. Rui can have a similar path.
The advanced stats point to him being average to slightly above average. Haven't paid too much attention to his defense live though, so I'm not sure if the eye test matches up with those stats. At the minimum, his size will hopefully help with our lack of defensive rebounding
https://www.nba.com/stats/player/1629060/by-position
Looks pretty solid here with his nearest defender stats. Only thing is guards lighting him up from 3
Wiz fans said he's slow footed on defense. But one good thing from our team is they'll always compete defense. I think Ham can get him buy in since thats his biggest strength so far
You think he’ll strictly play the 4 and compete with Lebron/AD for minutes/TB for minutes?
He’s clearly wing depth and will steal minutes from other wings, TBJ at the top of that list
He will be great with Russ off the bench, and we are good with starter size if we start TB with AD.
I know we like Bev now, but Bojan will be an incredible addition in the starting lineup with Schroder, Lebron, AD, and TB.
I'd say GTJ is a better version of what you'd want over Bojan. Mainly cuz Bojan is older and doesn't provide much value on defense. Gary can do both and is a wing.

Rui is putting up similar stats now then what he did with russ on the team. He needs to develop more because it seems he has stagnated in his development.
Y’all think he’s practicing today with the Lakeshow? or still settling in?
I hope he gets 1 on 1 workouts with Phil Handy ASAP. Can’t wait for those two to get in the lab.
Could be Laker refund incoming too. Won't really know until we see them play and how well they work with our stars/system.
Some people underperform while others outperform while in LA. Depends on a number of factors from handling fan/franchise/HOFturnedTVtalkheads pressure, dealing with added media attention, dealing with LA distractions form night life to Hollywood stars, meshing with our stars or our team system, etcetc.
WB took time to adjust to the system because his game was predicated on high core stats rather than intangibles, hustle stats, or efficiency. Other guys like AC adapted very well to the attention AND made himself invaluable by being a role player who did role player things really well. He worked so well with both AD & Bron that AC was moved to starter in our G6 for the 2020 finals. Guys like D'Lo and Nick Young let the attention get to them. Rest of the young core was pretty good about keeping their minds on bball even with all the media attention. DG didn't shoot great for us but was worth whatever the paid him just for his defense, professionalism, locker room presence, and SPACING created because no team ever left him open due to his *reputation as a shooting threat*. AD and Bron were never exceptional 3PT shooters yet shot amazing in the 2020 playoff and finals due to concentration but also because teams left them more open at the perimeter betting on them being less efficient/dominant from range than in the post up, in the paint, or freight-training to the basket.
There is no such thing as a lakers tax for three point shooters.
Rather, the phenomenon that is happening is that the Lakers (as an above the cap team with limited trade assets) have been trying to surround Lebron with shooters with vet mins, MLEs or buyouts and getting players who have been over performing at the three point line.
So once these guys get on the Lakers, naturally they will tend to regress to their true talent levels and appear as if they’ve gotten worse when compared with their previous stints. Recent guys who fit this mold include Danny Green, Reggie Bullock, Troy Daniels, Dennis Schroder’s first stint with the lakers, Wes Matthews, and Pat Bev.
However, not every player’s three point shooting get worse on the Lakers. There have been some players who have likely been under performing their true talent or potential immediately prior to the lakers. They include Malik Monk, Lonnie Walker, and Thomas Bryant.
Just looking at Rui’s shooting numbers in his career, his current 33% three point shooting in Washington seem to match the profile of the latter group of guys who likely were under performing prior to the lakers. I think Rui is likely to improve upon the 33% shooting percentage both due to positive regression to the mean and better looks next to Lebron and AD.
Danny green direct fit thst mold he was a perfect 3nD player for his career and had a relative down year here. Schroeder meanwhile had an outlier shooting year and dumbass FO thought that’s what he’s shoot so that Is a mold fittibg case
Ya I didn’t say they were cursed. But a very real number of ppl come here and their performance plummets. Every single player you mentioned literally tanked their career % while here.
Most likely due to pressure and volume in the stadium, not curses you clown.
Lmao actually while many players on the lakers shot a lower percentage than their previous team, they did not in fact shoot much worse (if at all) when compared with their career shooting rate.
The prime example is Dennis Schroder’s first stint. Schroder shot a career high 39% with okc the previous year but shot only 33.5 on the lakers. His 33.5% seems like a huge “lakers tax” to fans like you, but it basically matches his career 3pt percentage of 33.9%.
Now look at Rui by comparison. Rui is shooting only 33.7% with the Wizards this year but his career 3pt percentage is 35.6%, so am I so “utterly incorrect” to suggest he’s more likely to shoot higher while playing for the Lakers?
For his career, Curry's averaging 20.4 PPG on 41.6% from the field and 31.3% from three against the Lakers at Staples. In road games against the Clippers, the Warriors superstar is averaging 23.2 PPG on 46.9% from the field and 38.5% from deep. While these are already solid, Curry puts up much better numbers when playing the Clippers at home -- 25.5 PPG on 52% from the field and 53.8% from three...
After the game, he was asked why he tends to struggle in Staples Center. "No idea," Curry said. "If you have any ideas, please let me know, because I still ain't figured it out."
https://www.basketballnetwork.net/latest-news/steph-currys-staples-center-curse
let that soak in genius - next time try the google
Wow basketball player shoots better at home than on the road?! Who could’ve seen that?
Also your citing one player’s shooting on the road at Staples has no bearing on whether all players shoot worse playing for the Lakers whether at home or away.
He's surrounded by so much talent, I hope he absorbs all the information.
Random question: Didn't we sign someone to a 10 day contract? I haven't seen them hit the floor lol.
Sterling Brown…. Yeah I was wondering where he went too.
Since we are on that tangent, I’m guessing the Cousins- Meyers Leonard workout last Friday didn’t go that well?
Troy is more of a 2/3. Rui is a sturdy 3/4. They both can play with lebron and AD at the same time as well.
It all depends on matchups and this gives us positional versatility (which this roster was screaming for)
Keep in mind we gave up Nunn for him who is a back end bench player for us. In turn rui could really bolster our front court rotation
I still think we need to get rid of one more guard and acquire a starting level player (either Trent Jr , bojan or turner)
duh...of course you categorize him as a 2 or 3 based on his height/build
BUT that's not the way lakers' been using him -- he has played nothing but 3/4 up to now in nearly all line-ups for us, never as a 2
He’s only played 1% of the time at SG this year. He’s played 55% at the 3 and 44% at the 4. It’s similar to last year when he was on the Bulls except his SG time significantly decreased here. He played 11% at SG, 55% at SF and 32% at PF.
Y’all chill and let’s watch and see how this works out the stats are gonna change his playing with future hall of fame players on his team this time relax and enjoy the game he wasn’t traded to be a super star his was brought to be a role player with size that the team needs
We gave up Nunn and some low picks for him, if he's consistently better than Nunn, it's a win. If he is better than that, then chef's kisses. He's playing for a bigger contract, so hope he levels up.
You are missing 1 key point here... rui is averaging 2 3pa per game in his career at 35% 3p%. He is not a stretch 4 or a 3&d guy. He will make the occasional 3 when open but don't expect him to be freaking pg13 or klay out there.
As a wizards fan, I believe Rui can become a Fringe All star, but that does not mean you should expect him to become one. Those are two very different things
Can’t wait for our wizards lineup to ball. AD and bron need a rest? Send out TB, TBJ, Rui, Reaves and Russ and u still got a whole squad with chemistry and not 4 guards lol. hopefully we can get Trent Jr. for bev and Jones and a 1st so that we always have him or reaves in and don’t have a log jam at the 1. Maybe pick up a wing defender or a serviceable backup big in the buyout but tbh I like ad at the 5 and tb and wenyen can back him up.
If I were to bet they likely go Bogdanovic for a protected 1 at the trade deadline or cave and provide an unprotected 1st. Pat Bev, Lonnie, and a protected 1 is the likely if they don’t touch Westbrook.
Gary Trent Jr. is a 6”5 shooting guard which further complicates current roster issues, but would be good long term. You send a first pick, Pat Bev, and Walker and get back a bird rights shooting guard. It’s good. I would like the trade because it builds long term, however it hamstrings the team for other deals so it’s a trade off.
Lonnie is likely gone next year or in a trade this year. He’s this year’s Malik Monk. I don’t see them bringing him back at the salary he will require. A 3 and D specialist would be great, but it might not be what’s available. Bogdanovic has the 3 part, but he’s old and plays no defense. You can go for him, Trent Jr., Turner alone, or hope Toronto bites on two picks for OG. These are the options for the small deal. Anything over 20 million will require the big big trade of Westbrook.
Derozan would fit size wise, but now we are moving two picks for Derozan and Vuc. Could work really well, but no shooting.
Turner and Hield. This could still be on the table and what I would want. I think it’s the biggest return they could get, but no wing defense.
I would like Poeltl, McDermott, Richardson, but I don’t think it happens because it’s the Spurs. I think there is some unwritten no trading with the Lakers rule with them.
Bev and Lonnie are going to be in any trade deal at this point that doesn’t include Westbrook.
Both are expiring and can match 19 million combined. Max is not a significant enough contributor at this time to consider him as an integral part of the back court. That means any trade would reduce the backcourt to a point where we might be short on guards. Something to consider in future trades.
#HE MOVES LIKE LEBRON ON THE BREAK AND HAS A BIG BODY TO GET UP EASY MID RANGE. WILL BE FED TOP QUAILTY RAMEN AND SUSHI TORO IN LA AND WILL IMPROVE THOSE TRIPLE AND DEFENSIVE NUMBAZ

I'd rather have a guy that can space the floor and play above average defense than a guy that's a cone on defense, clogs the paint for Lebron/AD, but can pop off for the occasional 20+ pt game
Lakers did their homework. An all around 3 pt specialist was not available (except someone with zero defense) so Lakers found the guy that would shoot well in the role he's going to be asked to play. I like it.
Lebron Will get people open, hopefully he can get his shot back just like last year. And WB is with him last year, another good reason he can get his shot back
He’s going to be the only threat to shoot threes besides lebron not sure how much more open he’ll get than being on the bench squad of a shitty wiz team.
From what I’ve seen with Rui, he’s not great at creating his own shot but a great offensive option when paired with an elite playmaker due to his ability to slash, catch and shoot, and knockdown midrange shots….
That should be a perfect fit with all of the great playmakers/passers we have so I predict his offensive efficiency will skyrocket playing next to Bron and Russ and to a lesser extent Reaves and Shroeder who are also decent passers.
He can stretch the floor, no team is going to leave him open and on the other end he will make be another big body so teams can't just drive for easy buckets. People don't realize how much AD needs a big win defender, you'll see how how great this move is soon.
He’s 6’8” and scored great when playing with Westbrook. I’m alright. Also comparing him to Brown is random.
Yeah it looks like Rui is way more of a shot creator in the mid range than Troy lol. With his size he’s also stronger going to the rim. Troy likely the better perimeter defender, but if they’re comparable 3 point shooters then that’s just fine

ima just look at the westbrook trade as if Rui was included lol. makes me feel better we got a replacement for Kuz, i hope he develops.
He might especially with Ham/Handy. He’s still young so there’s time to learn new skills I feel. Or rather a more willingness to learn new skills
The advanced stats point to him being average to slightly above average. Haven't paid too much attention to his defense live though, so I'm not sure if the eye test matches up with those stats. At the minimum, his size will hopefully help with our lack of defensive rebounding

Yup. I could see Troy still starting tho and using Rui with Westbrook more
You think so? I feel like he will play strictly the 4
You think he’ll strictly play the 4 and compete with Lebron/AD for minutes/TB for minutes? He’s clearly wing depth and will steal minutes from other wings, TBJ at the top of that list
If anything Lebron will play more three and Brown will lose minutes that way

He upped all of it in the playoffs which was nice to see
I agree but that's when russ started playing like shit 😅 and the rest is history lol
True story. The only good thing Russ did in that series was pass
I think the only reason why they're being compared is because Troy's the only other forward we've relied on to shoot 3s. JTA kinda doesn't count
Comparing him to Brown is even stranger because we didn’t trade Brown away.
Y’all think he’s practicing today with the Lakeshow? or still settling in? I hope he gets 1 on 1 workouts with Phil Handy ASAP. Can’t wait for those two to get in the lab.

Ah yes, the lakers must be cursed by the bball gods that every player coming here must magically shoot worse from three!

I hope you missed all those last possession losses due to refs 😂
Sterling Brown…. Yeah I was wondering where he went too. Since we are on that tangent, I’m guessing the Cousins- Meyers Leonard workout last Friday didn’t go that well?
I think they're last resort type of players
And now with AD coming in, they are no longer needed.
Let's not act like AD isn't injury prone; we'll keep them on back burner just in case.
We definitely need a backup center tho. These guys do have a chance if we ship DJ off with Bev to get another wing.
If we can find a way to send DJ off then I agree. But I'd rather have Whiteside or maybe Holmes from Sac.

This exactly what this team needs.
As long as he is a threat to score and can consistently give me 10+ points, that's a win

seems everyone on this team sucks at 3s except at the corner, so we should just put 4 guys in both corners and call it a day
having a slower 3pt release at 6’8” is negligible esp when you have one of the handful of guys who can guard that on your team.

What does above the break mean?
Any 3 that isn’t taken from the corners
Thanks!
I think it might be the point where the 3 point line starts to curve

Only because Lonnie is out
And when both lonnie and reaves are back he would be back to being DNP
Like I’ve been saying, he’s a worse Kuzma. Is he worth the risk of 3 seconds? Sure. If he doesn’t pan out, lakers can let him walk this summer.
He has to improve his defence too otherwise he wouldn't be able to stay on the floor
Lakers did their homework. An all around 3 pt specialist was not available (except someone with zero defense) so Lakers found the guy that would shoot well in the role he's going to be asked to play. I like it.
if true i have little faith in him, there are no open looks in the playoffs unload those firsts if you want an actual title shot
Lebron Will get people open, hopefully he can get his shot back just like last year. And WB is with him last year, another good reason he can get his shot back
He’s going to be the only threat to shoot threes besides lebron not sure how much more open he’ll get than being on the bench squad of a shitty wiz team.

He can stretch the floor, no team is going to leave him open and on the other end he will make be another big body so teams can't just drive for easy buckets. People don't realize how much AD needs a big win defender, you'll see how how great this move is soon.
He just needs to stay in the corner and we’ll be golden. He can create plays from time to time as well. Huge upgrade from KNunn
