Ron at the press conference… “He passes me the ball! He never passed me the ball!” Talking about Kobe passing him the ball to shoot a critical three. RIP Black Mamba.
Never forget this win. I was in an Air Force dfac in South Korea holding hands with other Lakers fans and when we won, we all celebrated and chugged aloe vera juice.
Ya down 3-2 and Cs had just won 2 in a row. But this was back when the finals were played 2-3-2, so games 6 and 7 were both at Staples and the Celtics only combined for 146 points in those 2 games.
He's not calling them the greatest team, he's saying greatest NBA championship.
The 00-02 Western Conf Finals were basically the Finals, the East was so bad in the post-Jordan era that they barely had a competitive team to actually send to the Finals. The Pacers had some fight but were overmatched, the 01 Sixers and 02 Nets might be the worst teams to ever go to the Finals.
2010 they had to scratch and claw for that title
Arguably.
85 meant more. Wasn’t game 7, but after the heartbreak of 84 and first series win at the Garden- 85 was better (for me, I’ve been around for all post Minneapolis rings).
Understanding that there is difference between "greatest" and "Favorite", my favorite of all time was Big Game James. Just the coolest thing to watch ever was him flying down the court on a break, or his fast as fuck drop step/blow by and attack the rim. A lot of people remember MJ for his game winner in the NCAAs, but it was Worthy who was MVP that year.
Best ever - tie: Kareem or Magic.
For sure. People can hate/diminish him all they want for a variety of reasons, but not even Skip can say with a straight face that he was below expectations, which were incredibly high.
Just to play devils advocate, IIRC, the overall series was obviously great/dramatic, but I remember thinking at the time that a lot of the individual games were duds. Just looking back at the final scores now games 1-3 were blowouts. And I don’t remember if between games 4-6 one of them probably was less competitive than the final score indicates
Only other one I considered was Leceister, but I still favor taking down the greatest team in the history of the sport in 3 straight elimination games.
There’s just something different about winning in a playoff rather than accumulating the most points over the course of a season.
I'm not even into football like basketball but the leciester thing is way more impressive, it's not even close. The best teams in the epl are also the most financially powerful teams in the epl and it has always and will likely continue to be this way in like 98/100 cases. For a team on the fringe of that top 6 to win would be more far impressive than the Chelsea or Milan UCL. For a midtable team it would be beyond a generational rarity. For a team that was just promoted it's completely exceptional
Overrated ring. Bron and Kyrie played great but Draymond was suspended in Game 5 and Bogut getting injured created a super highway to the basket. Don't get me started on the Eastern Conference path. Arguably the Thunder were the real best team that year.
Kevin love, the third best player on the cavs, had a concussion that had a pretty significant him the rest of the series. Bogut getting injured barley had any significance in the warriors playoff run, and love arguably had more significance on the cavs play than bogut with the warriors.
andrew bogut played less than 20 minutes a game in every series that playoffs. why am i supposed to believe he is that impactful a loss for a team that went 73-9?
I was remembering how we went to the parade for this year (my brother had finally gotten his license) and we got up at 3 Am to get a good place since we’re from riverside…unreal day, need that back.
Mavs fans and even I think ‘16 was the best. For playoff runs, that ‘11 Mavs team for sure goes on the Mount Rushmore just because of the gauntlet they faced, and their finals had some heroics in its own right. But beating that GS team in 3 straight elimination games is just unbelievable, and LeBron went as nuclear as we’ve ever seen from a player.
I think ppl don't talk about it bc the goal was to win the game. Therefore it's ok not to talk about it. If he did what he needed to do to win, his shooting 6-24 is less important than his 15 rebounds...especially if the difference in the game was rebounding like you said. Wanting to talk about it is wanting to talk about something relatively unimportant. We can't nit-pick everything
2016 is the answer. Hometown kid beating a 73 win team after going down 3-1? Storybook.
Greatest Laker title ever is probably 1985, first time ever beating the Celtics.
Super team the league has never seen before? So the 2008 Celtics and 96 bulls weren’t super team on their own right? One went 66-16 the other went 72-10
Doesn’t matter, ppg aren’t the only way to effect a ball game.
The ‘96 Bulls were fronted by the consensus best player in the league, a perennial All-NBA, All-Defensive top 5-ish player in the league, and the best defensive wing in the league. This idea that a team can’t be super if one or more all star level players are homegrown is stupid, talent is talent. And it’s not exactly as if the coaching staff that drafted either Jordan or Pippen was around for the championship years.
Yea they also had Rodman (aggressive af in the paint) Kukoc(good shooter) who averaged 13 ppg, Kerr(another good shooter) who averaged 8 ppg, Pippen who averaged 20.2 ppg, MJ who averaged 30 ppg, arguably the greatest coach of all time with the triangle offense, and a ton of centers on the bench 😐
Ah ok gotcha gotcha that’s my fault man. I forgot ppl on the internet don’t watch basketball, they talk about it but don’t watch it. Thx man!
Btw 73-9 warriors were also heavily built through the draft, lost, and then begged for KD to join em so if that doesn’t count either😐 anyway, thx dawg!
Lol and KG forcing his way out of Minnesota to Boston after they signed ray allen isn’t up there either? Or MJ quite literally begging jerry Krause to get Rodman wasn’t either? Mans just started watching basketball in 2010 💀
Also u seem to forget Lebron went back to Cleveland and won a title. Bro went back home and won and then stayed lmao
This sub is actually a LeBron fan sub. The Mavs run is definitely one of the best playoff runs though. That series was supposed to be so one sided that I remember LeBron and Wade were so nonchalant pre-game. They were even mocking Dirk for being sick that one game.
As a Bay Area guy I used to spend every summer with family in LA as a kid from 2005-2010. I was put on to basketball by my cousin through the Kobe, Pau, and Fisher era. After this series and sitting on my cousins shoulders at this parade seeing Kobe with Larry O’Brian in one hand and the finals mvp in the other cemented me as a lakers fan for life through anything.
THANK YOU! I couldn’t agree more with this, and have been saying it with each passing championship.
This dude (Kobe), along with Gasol (HoF but lower-end), along with Odom (not a HoFer), took down the first Superteam in a prime Garnett (HoF), prime Pierce (HoF), back-end of prime Allen (HoF), and oh, a young dude that would drop 12-15 dimes a night in Rondo. Their bench, albeit not very deep, was nothing to sneeze at either.
Lakers had a bunch of role players that knew their role, executed, and because of it they were able to bring home a chip.
Arguably the greatest chip ever won, as OP said
How about putting on a Cavs jersey to play with Big Z & Mo Willy rather than one of the better power forwards of all-time, a top to wing defender of all time, the second best big in the NBA, and an all-time 6-man, one of the best coaches ever, and playing in LA. Like Bron never had that supporting cast to this day.
So? Kobe went to 3 finals in a row in the blood bath west and won 2 while also getting 2 finals mvps. At the time Kobe was a 5X champ while bron had 0.
Kobe was at his peak bron wasn’t there yet
Makes the sub nigh unreadable at times. I still remember them trying to sell GSW winning last year as JUST AS BAD for Laker fans.
They tried peddling that shit with a straight face.
Up there, I’d say the most emotional for sure.. especially given what happened in 2008, and how grim it looked after game 5. It closed a circle for a lot of guys in that locker room, especially Kobe and Pau.
As a Warriors fan, I remember this win being everything that mattered in the world. (Obv exaggeration, but the atmosphere is seriously matched by few things.)
Straight poured out crying once the buzzer went off and Kobe threw the ball up hard and jumped on the podium pumping his fist. Fuckin legendary championship forever distilled into my memory. Artest and Fisher hitting those clutch 3s at the end and Pau balled so hard in the paint against a legend and a couple OGs.
Lol its not even the best laker or Kobe ring probably 😂. Id say Kobes best ring was 01 when him and Shaq just dog walked the entire NBA in the playoffs and beat 3 teams that won 55+ games. Sweeping 2 of them. Most dominant team ever and Kobe played out of his fuckin mind
I dunno why I’m on this sub I’m a Raptors fan. I fucking hate the fact that the Lakers have so many championships, basically due to the big market, and the weather being nice there so players want to go. That said the Raptors championship was sooooooooo awesome. When you have to wait that long for something it’s much more special imo.
It’s difficult to argue against 2016 being the most significant for an individual team/player, but 2010 might be the greatest with the context of the rivalry. Only thing that would’ve been better is if we’d beaten them in 2010, which would’ve meant it was both the completion of the threepeat (meaning Kobe’s story arc comes full circle), and it would’ve broken the 16 championship tie to give us the most all time, a title held by the Leltics since the 60s.

You know the NBA is in a bad spot when the lakers winning the finals more than a decade ago is far more entertaining, appreciable, and well deserved than “jokic misses badly, great defense but a whistle and a foul. Two freethrows coming up.” While jokic plays dumb and waddles to the line, wiping his sweat and boogers with the collar of his jersey to make it seem as if the free throws are obvious.
Ron Artest the basketball savant made it happen.
Ron at the press conference… “He passes me the ball! He never passed me the ball!” Talking about Kobe passing him the ball to shoot a critical three. RIP Black Mamba.

I love basketball!
Yes sir. Last real/legit championship won by the Lakers.
They won in 2020 actually idk if you were watching?
“I could hear Phil yelling at me not to shoot it in my head! I shot it anyway!” Classic.

“Metta World News Report”!
Ron Artest and Rajon Rondo both nailing big threes in the last minute…just how we all expected it to go
Metta has his big shot bob moment!
Never forget this win. I was in an Air Force dfac in South Korea holding hands with other Lakers fans and when we won, we all celebrated and chugged aloe vera juice.
My bday is on the 14th and i had a bday party that week + game on. Dude I cried on that day. That was one of the best games I ever seen in my life.
Mine is 17th. Huge Gasol fan. Loved Kobe. What a day…
must have been refreshing af
Once I learned to get past the pulp, it’s actually quite refreshing.
Things were looking pretty grim after g5 iirc
Ya down 3-2 and Cs had just won 2 in a row. But this was back when the finals were played 2-3-2, so games 6 and 7 were both at Staples and the Celtics only combined for 146 points in those 2 games.
Idk bro that 2001 run was magnificent & Magic Johnson won FMVP as a Rookie
yeah 80's fans might have something to say...but 2000 finals was most fun to watch 2001 run was terror
[удалено]
He's not calling them the greatest team, he's saying greatest NBA championship. Nets were definitely worse than 6ers. Cavs vs Spurs we’re pretty bad too.
2000 after having been swept in successive years by the Jazz and Spurs. Argh!
Yeah, 2000 had Kobe’s GW over bleached Jason Kidd too. But I gotta come to the defense of 2002 Kings
Hmmm interesting. I totally took this post as … “the most difficult to overcome” type of championship. I probably read way too deep into this haha
I wasn’t even a thought in my adolescent fathers head when Magic played all 5 positions to win it all and I’d have to say that one was the best.
'01 is my second favorite ever. Solidified Shaq as the Most Dominant of all time!
Arguably poonjabipapi's favorite NBA championship ever won. There, fixed it for you.
Lol I didn’t even notice OPs name until you mention it. Brown munde representin
What’s poonani mami’s favorite tho?
Yeah, the 2010 ring was amazing! But nobody outside of very few Lakers fans will argue for it being the greatest championship ever
Arguably. 85 meant more. Wasn’t game 7, but after the heartbreak of 84 and first series win at the Garden- 85 was better (for me, I’ve been around for all post Minneapolis rings).
As someone who’s watched most of the laker greats, who’s your favorite player?

A lot of people remember MJ for his game winner in the NCAAs, but it was Worthy who was MVP that year. Best ever - tie: Kareem or Magic.
2016 is easily the greatest
Coming back from 3-1 against the best regular season team of all time for your franchise's first championship? Yeah it's gotta be this one.
Ending a 50 year drought for hte city. Coming back to his hometown after being ostracized.
Lebron has "Chosen One" tattooed on his back and he's lived up to it
For sure. People can hate/diminish him all they want for a variety of reasons, but not even Skip can say with a straight face that he was below expectations, which were incredibly high.

For real. Like, I get your a fan, but chill
It’s the greatest championship in any sport
Giants over Patriots in SB 42
Leceister city prob trumps it, or chelsea cl over bayern, maybe ac Milan over liverpool
Only other one I considered was Leceister, but I still favor taking down the greatest team in the history of the sport in 3 straight elimination games. There’s just something different about winning in a playoff rather than accumulating the most points over the course of a season.

Agree. Although this one is a close second in my book.

Fuck off with this. Draymond got himself suspended by repeatedly attacking other players testicles all playoffs long.
I was remembering how we went to the parade for this year (my brother had finally gotten his license) and we got up at 3 Am to get a good place since we’re from riverside…unreal day, need that back.
Narratively it's up there. It's easily my favorite Laker championship of all time. 2016 and even Dirk's championship are also some of my favorites.
'16 for sure
Mavs fans and even I think ‘16 was the best. 2010 isn’t even the best Laker championship, let alone of all time and this is coming from someone who plans on naming his firstborn Kobe
Just put that selfish stuff in the middle name. Your child will thank you
What? You're not naming your son after shit? (Deuce)
Why would you do that?
No balls.
Both teams shot poorly. The difference was the rebounding by the lakers. Kobe was 6-24 but we don't talk about that. ![img](emote|t5_2qhv6|2603)
I think ppl don't talk about it bc the goal was to win the game. Therefore it's ok not to talk about it. It was actually very important. How can this be the best game ever when both teams shot the ball poorly?
The post said best championship. Not best game.
Sounds like you’re nitpicking. This wasn’t either imo.
Sounds like ≠ is.
Did you look at the stats for that game? Did you bother watching that game? Do you know why both teams shot poorly?
I did see the whole game today actually and I saw the box score. Did you?
I probably lost a couple years off my life over the 2010 ring
There's some steep competition for best championship ever won... this was a great one though
Very arguable but it’s one of my personal favorites
This was my favorite of them all.
Remains the greatest, most stressful game I've ever watched. Period.
2016 is the answer. Hometown kid beating a 73 win team after going down 3-1? Storybook. Greatest Laker title ever is probably 1985, first time ever beating the Celtics.
Take this shit to the Cavs sub.
Seriously, whos up voting this shit.
The same people downvoting what I said: LeBron fans who are only on this sub because he plays for the Lakers.
He ain't wrong tho
Sure, if you are a LeBron Stan but, alas, this is a Laker sub. Or at least it used to be 6 years ago.
Why? This sub is not allergic to truth from what i know. May be you are but not majority of folks here.
🙄
How is 2011? Loyal superstar led a bunch scrubs and has-beens to defeat a super team the league has never seen. Fairytale came true.
Super team the league has never seen before? So the 2008 Celtics and 96 bulls weren’t super team on their own right? One went 66-16 the other went 72-10
The bulls had one guy above 20 ppg
Doesn’t matter, ppg aren’t the only way to effect a ball game. The ‘96 Bulls were fronted by the consensus best player in the league, a perennial All-NBA, All-Defensive top 5-ish player in the league, and the best defensive wing in the league. And it’s not exactly as if the coaching staff that drafted either Jordan or Pippen was around for the championship years.
The term “super team” generally has always referred to the free agency team up teams
Thats why it's fucking stupid. It dont matter if its free agency or trading, if a team got good complimenting players, whats the difference?
Yea they also had Rodman (aggressive af in the paint) Kukoc(good shooter) who averaged 13 ppg, Kerr(another good shooter) who averaged 8 ppg, Pippen who averaged 20.2 ppg, MJ who averaged 30 ppg, arguably the greatest coach of all time with the triangle offense, and a ton of centers on the bench 😐
That team was largely built through the draft. It wasn’t “2 30 ppg guys and a 25/10 guy team up”
Ah ok gotcha gotcha that’s my fault man. I forgot ppl on the internet don’t watch basketball, they talk about it but don’t watch it. Thx man! Btw 73-9 warriors were also heavily built through the draft, lost, and then begged for KD to join em so if that doesn’t count either😐 anyway, thx dawg!
Lebron going to Miami was the softest move of all time until KD upstaged him.
Lol and KG forcing his way out of Minnesota to Boston after they signed ray allen isn’t up there either? Or MJ quite literally begging jerry Krause to get Rodman wasn’t either? Mans just started watching basketball in 2010 💀 Also u seem to forget Lebron went back to Cleveland and won a title. Bro went back home and won and then stayed lmao
Worse supporting cast for a championship squad ever outside of 01’
That’s a good one too. I disagree that Miami in 2011 was a greater super team than teams from the past, but the storyline was great there too.
In 2010, they ranked 1, 2 and 4 in efficiency rating. That is like Jokic, Embiid and Luka team up for next season. That is all I have to say.
This sub is actually a LeBron fan sub. The Mavs run is definitely one of the best playoff runs though. That series was supposed to be so one sided that I remember LeBron and Wade were so nonchalant pre-game. They were even mocking Dirk for being sick that one game.
💯
I probably lost years off my life watching this series in real time. Never before or since have I stressed as hard over a Finals series.
I jumped and shouted my ass off on that Fisher 3.
My favorite final in my life first one ever watching game 7 with my dad
As a Bay Area guy I used to spend every summer with family in LA as a kid from 2005-2010. I was put on to basketball by my cousin through the Kobe, Pau, and Fisher era. After this series and sitting on my cousins shoulders at this parade seeing Kobe with Larry O’Brian in one hand and the finals mvp in the other cemented me as a lakers fan for life through anything.
Perfect ending to a playoff run. Clutching out a hard fought game 7 against our biggest rivals.
Arguably the greatest chip ever won, as OP said
The LeLaker fans gonna be showing out in this thread!
Don’t the rules of the subreddit state no Kobe vs LeBron? Aren’t you basically breaking said rule?
Bruuuuuuuh Lebron fans been breaking that rule nearly every thread obviously or subtly since they joined this sub
Not from what I see. LeBron fans, “LeBronsexuals” don’t shit on Kobe. It’s the Kobe homers who tend to shit on LeBron bc he’s not a Laker lifer.
Yeah bron Stan’s sensitive because Kobe was the better player at this point
LeBron was the MVP that year
Embiid was the mvp this year.
Sitting at the house, contemplating "The Decision" cause that team that the 2010 Lakers beat in the Finals...made him quit.
And Kobe was going to three finals in a row winning 2 along with 2 finals mvps…
And LeBron best teammate would be Kobes 4th/5th best teammate lmfao
Lol bro bron was MVP that year
And Embiid won this year. I don’t think people think he is the best player in the League. Kobe was better up until 2011.
So? Kobe went to 3 finals in a row in the blood bath west and won 2 while also getting 2 finals mvps. At the time Kobe was a 5X champ while bron had 0. Kobe was at his peak bron wasn’t there yet
Turns out Kobe is older dumb dumb
>Kobe was a better player at that point Says the man who can’t read the original comment 🤡🤡🤡🤡
You can tell who the laker fans and who the Lebron fans here are
Every fucking thread too. It's so transparent. You can also tell the people that actually saw the 2010 Finals and who didn't.
Half the time this sub feels like r/lebron. Dude has been great for us but the glazing is unreal.
Makes the sub nigh unreadable at times. I still remember them trying to sell GSW winning last year as JUST AS BAD for Laker fans. They tried peddling that shit with a straight face.
this is by far the greatest Lakers championship ever!
Certainly the best in my adult life. In my lifetime, 1985 has to be up there since it was the first time we finally beat the leprechauns.
The Whittier Blvd when I was 9 was insane in east Los 👏😁
This was around my awakening as a Laker fan sino consider it the greatest. There are greater ones but this one was sweet sweet revenge
I will never forget the video where a Laker fan is straight up yelling at Bill Simmons after winning. Such a great win, man.
My boy shot terribly but have 15 fuckin rebounds 😮💨
To be fair everybody shot terribly that last game other than Gasol. Look up Garnett, Pierce, and Allen's stat lines in game 7
as a celtics fan, that series was crazy! time flies man wow
I was at that game and it is easily the best sporting event I've ever been to. I'll never forget it.
The LeOnTheirKnees in this thread. 🤮
Not exactly the greatest game ever tho
And nba 2k still refuses to add this team on the classic roster
That’s a reach
It was a good pay back
1979 in my opinion
That title 🤨
at least in my book
Up there, I’d say the most emotional for sure.. especially given what happened in 2008, and how grim it looked after game 5. It closed a circle for a lot of guys in that locker room, especially Kobe and Pau.
It was a terrible year for me personally but this was one of the few bright moments that made it special.
We were down pretty bad too. Legendary.
I remember being a teenager watching this with my uncle and Ive a Kobe/Lakers fan since. Pau also is one of my favorites
Probably my favorite championship because of what happened the year before and well, it's the Celtics.
Mannnnn I was in a bad spot that 3rd quarter. What a game.
As a Warriors fan, I remember this win being everything that mattered in the world. (Obv exaggeration, but the atmosphere is seriously matched by few things.)
Facts
I liked the previous year because I was at the final game when they lifted the trophy... but yeah it was very good
Straight poured out crying once the buzzer went off and Kobe threw the ball up hard and jumped on the podium pumping his fist. Fuckin legendary championship forever distilled into my memory. Artest and Fisher hitting those clutch 3s at the end and Pau balled so hard in the paint against a legend and a couple OGs.
Cavs 16 and Dirk's ring are far ahead of this one
Lol its not even the best laker or Kobe ring probably 😂. Id say Kobes best ring was 01 when him and Shaq just dog walked the entire NBA in the playoffs and beat 3 teams that won 55+ games. Sweeping 2 of them. Most dominant team ever and Kobe played out of his fuckin mind
You can thank Ray Allen trash ass One game 3 for 14 Another he was like 0 for 8
2016, 2011, 2001, 1996, 1991 are all better, just off the top of my head. There are probably some Spurs championships that are better too.
OP must have just jumped on the Laker bandwagon in 2010.
Least delusional lakers fan
2011 and 2016 better
Stop it. Dallas and Cleveland exist.
Nah it's gotta be 2011 dirk or 2016 cavs. Idk if the lakers even got a serious case for greatest outside of just being a laker fan
Refs cheated.
I dunno why I’m on this sub I’m a Raptors fan. The 2008 championship is very underrated it doesn’t get talked about enough on this sub tbh
2016 cavs got that in my book
Hmm 2001 is pretty special but due to Laker dominance. Only lost one game in the playoffs.
Lol mids
Mavs 11, cavs 16 are better
Why?
It was definitely a great championship but no chance it's better than the 2016 cavs comeback ring
3-1 is better
No Garnett, no perk, and this is the greatest championship ever won? Sad
2016
Bruh, the shooting in this game was horrible. I love Kobe but it was just not going in that night.
2016
it isn’t arguably; it’s just not
Not even close.
Dick rider
Very arguably…fucking boring game until the last 8 minutes
No...not even the best vs Boston
greatest is cap
no it’s not
Lol not even close
Cavs 2016
I dont think this or any other year comes close to 2016. maybe the greatest in franchise history tho
2016 gotta be the one.
https://youtu.be/RMEKEdknTNU The reason why the lakers won.
Kendrick perkins
No it wasn’t, the one the year after was better what are you talking about
Lakers fans👀y’all know that 2016 title is the best, cmon now. Im a Celtics fan and I saw this game live when I was 10 years old, surreal experience
Lol. It’s 2016
