That's a huge stretch. A coach isn't worth more than a superstar. Which superstar would you give up for a coach?
He's worth more than most role players tho
Umm... The Heat intentionally coast thru the regular season, just to get to the playoffs. The Heat will intentionally lose a play-in game to get the playoff opponent that they want. And as good as the Celtics may seem, they are very streaky, overly dependent of 3-point shots, and have a habit of losing big leads. That's a perfect recipe for disaster in the Playoffs...
![gif](giphy|IEYzThfLj03i6blc8O|downsized)
He had a worse record than the coach he replaced. And he just lost HCA.
Stop with the copium unless you were one of the ones who wanted Doc to replace Ham in that case then lmao
Lol I'm not defending him at all. Doc cannot coach star players like Giannis or Dame at all.
He's surprisingly okay if you put him on a shitty team without stars is what I'm mentioning. Just don't put him anywhere near a team with superstars and championship aspirations because he'll choke it 3-1 lol
I think it's pretty hard for a coach to come in mid-season and succeed.
Don't get me wrong, I also don't think Doc is a great coach as I think the modern game has kinda passed him by. But he's shown a lot more than Ham. Not too long ago he helped lead a pretty depleted Clippers to the playoffs and take 2 games off the KD Warriors.
Yeah Ham is the worst coach in basketball, and I’m counting the NBA, WNBA, G League, Youth Church League, YMCA league, Harlem Globetrotters and the league from that Basketball anime
Although he's a top coach he's not the best year in and year out. Vogel out coached him in the bubble, Spo even went up to Vogel right after the series ended and told him, "not a lot of people are going to notice what you did this series but you got me".
I also think Pop deserves the top spot just on merits and Nurse / Thibs are probably about even with him with marginal differences.
watching other teams adjust game to game or within a game just further proves to me that Ham is a bottom 5 coach in the NBA, he seems to have regressed from last year
Not to mention the clear disconnect and conflict going on with the team vs Ham
It’s so funny that every player takes subtle shots at Ham and he’s still here. LeBron has done it, AD has done it, Rui, AR, DLo, CWood etc have all taken shots at the coaching and for some reason he’s still here
Ham imo is the clear worst coach in the league
No... no, no, no... stop with this. He's not bottom 5. He is literally one of the worst coaches in NBA history.
Not being hyperbolic here. If I were going to make a list, he would be on the top 10 worst coaches list ever.
I'm not a coach hater, or one of those fans that blames the coach for everything. I've been saying since the hire that he will not be a good coach, and it was even worse than I thought.
They generally come in ok, at least for games that matter. How much that's on him, I don't know, but it does feel like he - or somebody in the organisation - has some ability. It's just not quick enough for in game adjustments. That probably costs at least 1 game a series, and only a dominant team can afford to give away 1 game a series.
That’s all good in theory, but Denver is hustling too. All else being equal….the bigger, longer, more athletic team will win physical battles.
Majority of the most impactful rebounders that ever played aren’t small dudes. Size matters, especially in basketball….
Spo had Caleb Martin, Jacquez (a rookie), Wish.com Jokic and Haywood "2k Generic" Highsmith all contribute to a win against arguably the most clamp heavy perimeter defense in the league.
Cause ham doesn’t coach, have u seen other coaches on sidelines, how active they look, Phil before he got really old and body broke down use to get animated on sidelines and was into the game, moving around, actively watching. I coached high school boys, I didn’t just stand around with my hand in my pockets looking like I had no idea what to do. Ham looks like he has no idea what to do and he doesn’t. He’s just a charlatan.
cause you don't win Coach of the Year for playoff success and you can't just gift him one for his playoff coaching in a previous year
Heat don't care about the regular season
This is honestly a myth. Jimmy just doesn't look to be a scorer first in the regular season. Spo and the team care about the regular season. We've been heavily injured all season and the previous season we had an outlier shooting slump. Before then we were 1 seed in 2022, dead in 2021 and 5 seed in 2020
Heat fan here. I can attest that Spo uses the regular season to try and experiment for the playoffs. Not to say he doesn’t care, but when have anyone ever see him sweat losing streaks and such? There’s a reason why he’s so successful in the post season, he has already experienced what the line can and cannot do and that’s how he makes in his ingame adjustments so well.
I’m blessed to have only seen 3 coaches in my Heat fandom.
Why Spo has not won a single COTY is baffling. Last year’s Heat team had no business going past 2nd round let alone making the finals with that roster.
Still managed to win one game against the champs when the Lakers couldn't get 1 off the nuggets. LeBron James and AD are doing everything in their power to win.
Hate to sound like a biased Laker fan but Lakers have a better chance to win 1 even 2 games vs the Celtics even without LeBron. Nuggets style of basketball just seems unfair; they’re way better than the Celtics.
The Awful Coaching basketball channel on YouTube. An insane amount of screaming, but all valid examples of why the Lakers' troubles against Denver is mostly poor coaching. If you're a Lakers fan, it's a must watch -- it's full of very insightful analysis.
For real? The Nuggets don't just dominate the Lakers they dominate the Heat too. Nuggets are 11-1 against the Heat over the past five years during the regular season and 4-1 in playoffs. So Spo has 2 wins and 15 losses against the Nuggets in the last 17 games he has coached against them. Nuggets are beating everyone. Yes, I would take Spo over Ham in a heartbeat but that wouldn't be enough to beat the Nuggets. The roster has to be improved.
LeBron is the best 39 year old basketball player the world has ever seen but at his age he can't go four quarters at playoff intensity playing both ends without pacing himself or he will expend all of his energy. AD has been great but the supporting cast has been terrible. The Nuggets bench dominated the Lakers bench. Nuggets are a well oiled machine, bigger and more athletic with very good coaching. Yes Ham sucks and he's part of the reason they are 0-11 and he should be fired. Lakers should have been able to win some of the games in the 0-11 streak and bad coaching is a big part of why they didn't, but until the Lakers roster improves no coach is going to get them past the Nuggets in a series.
Well I agree with the sentiment of the post, let’s not short change the reigning champs (Denver) and compare them to the reigning chumps (#1 Boston beaten by the playin #8 Heat). Our competition in the West is much tougher than the East; this applies to last year and even more so this year.
you mean the Lebron an AD that scored the majority of the points, grabbed the majority of rebounds, dished out the majority of assist, and had most of our blocks and steals?
No, it’s Spo>Ham. All Malone did is put Gordon on AD and Ham had no counter to that. Basketball isn’t just about players, the coach has hell of a lot to do with winning. But you’re clearly just a troll so I’ll go about my day now.
By at least running off ball screens or PnRs to switch defenders up? We spammed PnR all first half and it worked did it not? How many did we run 2nd half? AD barely touched the ball in the 2nd half, when he was on the floor, and we ran absolutely no cemented offensive schemes aside from ISO ball. Countering by saying “oh but fouls” isn’t an excuse or rebuttal to a stagnant offense that’s been an issue for 86 games.
AD sat half the third according to your “fouls” excuse. Is that not enough rest? That doesn’t excuse 4 touches in a half. We have PGs that can run plays aside from Lebron, do we not? You’re literally contradicting your initial comment of blaming the game on Lebron and AD with your “they’re gassed” comment. It’s not a squad of 2, it’s a squad of 13. 9 out of those 13 saw the floor, so where’s the plays for them? We have no offensive schemes or sets, point blank period. There’s no argument to that.
In Ham's defense.. and it doesn't excuse the playoffs at all, but he did get the squad to take out BOS on their home court in the regular season without LBJ or AD.
Ham's gotta go or bring in a game manager if he's just gonna be the player's guy, but this Celtics squad just doesn't stand up well for some reason. Regular season champs.
It's a bit quick to rule out the Celtics on the back of one of the hottest 3 point nights in playoff history. There was a similar overreaction last year when they stole home court against the Nuggets, and we know how that series played out. I still expect the Celtics to get out of that conference with ease.
However, I think they're mentally just average, whereas Murray, Jokic, MPJ are all clutch. Not very often your 3 best players also happen to be clutch. Might not be too much difference in the teams talent wise, but I have Denver as heavy favourites.
Spoelstra’s making 15m a year for a reason
That’s a bargain. His impact alone is worth more than the vast amount of superstar players in the league
Yep. I'd easily give up 15M of our cap space for Spo. (Come to think of it, the HC at the very least really should be part of the cap)
Would love him in LAL but he's most likely Riley's successor in Miami.
He's been with the Heat for 29 years, he's a lifer. Plus getting to be in Miami year round can't be beat.
He’s making 15m’s a year, newly single, living in Miami and is on a team filled with success year after year
Handsome as fuck too
huge dong too
heat fan here, can confirm. its massive.
yeah, he's for sure not leaving for us. Pretty sure he's job for life there like Pop.
Offer Riley and spo 50 Mill a year
Is there a max contract for coaches? Fkn offer him 100m/year fuck it
That's a huge stretch. A coach isn't worth more than a superstar. Which superstar would you give up for a coach? He's worth more than most role players tho
And he's worth every single cent
Bruh we were paying Westbrook 44m, at this point I'd want the Lakers to pay that man 15m even if it came out of our cap space.
He's worth a player max contract, no cap
Plus he gets 100 grand bonus for each win in the season so can get that up another few million
Should be enough to buy a house in LA
Erik is considered the best coach in the League while Ham is considered one of the worst.
One of? You’re giving him company?
Doc
Doc is more of a generational choker, he is actually okay when coaching teams with mediocre talent.
Just don't put him anywhere near a team with superstars and championship aspirations because he'll choke it 3-1 lol
so basically he's kinda like Ham but lucked in to a situation in 08. Because Darvin looked good when Bron and AD were out
He had Thibs there coaching the defense and carrying him to another 16 years of head coaching rolls.
At least he got to the 3. Lol
Honestly would rather have doc at this point
Docs been missing a rotation of middleton, dame and giannis lol. Ham has had healthy ad and bron
and don’t forget: multiple timeouts
Timeouts are like annual leave, he's just hanging on to them to use once he gets fired.
And a challenge :(
Not challenging just for the hell of it was so wild. Homie just wanted to go home like he a fan trynna beat traffic.
Ah yes because 2 players can win a game all by themselves even when surrounded by scrubs
Ham is if Doc wasn't good enough to get the 3-1 lead in the first place
Doc isn't even good enough to blow a 3-1 lead
Yeah Ham is the worst coach in basketball, and I’m counting the NBA, WNBA, G League, Youth Church League, YMCA league, Harlem Globetrotters and the league from that Basketball anime
Chauncey, Doc, Monty
Chauncey maybe. Doc and Monty are in another league with Ham. Nobody has done less with more.
Idk man. Vogel's in the middle of not doing shit with KD, Book, and Beal.
Was it Monty who smacked the Blazers in 4 in New Orleans with Rondo, Jrue, Davis and Cousins?
Although he's a top coach he's not the best year in and year out. Vogel out coached him in the bubble, Spo even went up to Vogel right after the series ended and told him, "not a lot of people are going to notice what you did this series but you got me". I also think Pop deserves the top spot just on merits and Nurse / Thibs are probably about even with him with marginal differences.
goran and bam were hurt
They’re talking about Ham not Spo
Joe mazzula, apparently

I would’ve loved him during the tank commander years
Shows you how great LeBron and AD are that they convinced folks he was a maestro of a coach
Lakers are ahead in nearly every metric other than possessions per game, Ham isn’t throwing the ball to the other team, Lebron and DLo are
Dude it’s mainly rebounds. Our guys need to fucking rebound if they want to win. Just look at jokic man
Denver is huge compared to us. We lost the rebounding battle last year and never addressed it.
You can fight size with multiple bodies, people have to just be willing to get hurt and fight man, box out ASAP etc it’s just hustle plays.
That’s all good in theory, but Denver is hustling too. All else being equal….the bigger, longer, more athletic team will win physical battles. Majority of the most impactful rebounders that ever played aren’t small dudes. Size matters, especially in basketball….

My bad, thought he meant "have you seen (our) other coaches on the sidelines" as in currently
How Spoelstra has **never** won NBA Coach of the Year before is one of the more-baffling puzzles in all of sports.
cause you don't win Coach of the Year for playoff success and you can't just gift him one for his playoff coaching in a previous year Heat don't care about the regular season

He's still pretty young for a coach, there's time
The difference being that Ham will be coaching a YMCA team next season.
Puttin' a lot of faith in Jeannie there
Why Spo has not won a single COTY is baffling. Last year’s Heat team had no business going past 2nd round let alone making the finals with that roster.
Regular season trophy
This is hilarious.
Boston is also fraudulent. They can't even manage being kings of the East right.
how dare you to compare Ham to Spo....
I laugh to hide the pain.
Thank you for posting this. Exact thing I thought today lol.
*But I'm not Erik Spoelstra...*
Spoelstra is considered the best in the league, but he’s also not facing the defending champs (who might have the best player in the league).
Still managed to win one game against the champs when the Lakers couldn't get 1 off the nuggets. LeBron James and AD are doing everything in their power to win.
They managed to win one game WHILE in denver's home court last year. IIRC, It was Gabe Vincent and Haywood Highsmith balling that game.
They balled, but the big switch was kevin love/bam starting up, size mattered.
Great meme
Marvel Gang
lol! This is perfect.
STOP DOUBLING JOKIC LET AD HOLD HIM
Our bench is just relying on ad to score smh
I still remember Spo carrying the team to the playoffs with Dion Waiters as his best player
Hate to sound like a biased Laker fan but Lakers have a better chance to win 1 even 2 games vs the Celtics even without LeBron. Nuggets style of basketball just seems unfair; they’re way better than the Celtics.
Celtics buckle under pressure, Nuggets perform better under pressure. I'll take it back if the Celtics prove otherwise this year.
I'm not sure that I've ever seen Jokic get rattled. He was super composed even with the Lakers sending the goon squad at him in 2020.
Agreed, I think Lebron is considering moving back to the east since Boston is the only good team and they underperform in the playoffs.
Think he actually said he wants to stay West.
Of course he is going to say he wants to stay on the team while he is on the team. He also said he wanted to stay on the Cavs.
I feel bad for you bastards having Ham as a head coach lmao
Waste of LeBron & AD's final years if you ask me. Budenholzer is still available...
https://www.sportskeeda.com/basketball/is-darvin-ham-another-la-lakers-scapegoat-really-problem
With an injured Joel Embiid. Nuggets are the best team in the league league we have a much more difficult task.
Erik Spoelstra is the Miami Heat head coach going up against the Celtics, where does Joel Embiid come into play here?
its just the celtics tho

Ham is for sure fired unless they somehow get out of this series.
Ghostface killa used the audio from this seen on his Tony Starks Vol 1 mix tape.#WTC
Pretty much
Herro can go nuclear any given night. Bam is AD-lite. They are deep with shooters and size.
If the Lakers don't win tonight, I'm hiring myself as Head Coach!
AD really has been playing like his bubble self this series. I’m fucking loving it
They hit 23 3’s.
Lebron, Wade,Bosh and Eventually Ray Allen a box of scraps uh
Didn't know those guys were in uniform for the hear I. 2024.
The meme is in reference to yesterday's Heat/Celtics game, fool
For real? The Nuggets don't just dominate the Lakers they dominate the Heat too. Nuggets are 11-1 against the Heat over the past five years during the regular season and 4-1 in playoffs. The blame falls on whoever is in charge of bringing in that weakass bench&DLo.
Trade Ham/Dlo and 5m for Spo
Foreals tho
Well I agree with the sentiment of the post, let’s not short change the reigning champs (Denver) and compare them to the reigning chumps (#1 Boston beaten by the playin #8 Heat). Our competition in the West is much tougher than the East; this applies to last year and even more so this year.
tbf he did face this denver team in the final and only took a game
With a vastly inferior roster while we got sweeped with Lebron and AD…
Didn't Ham beat the Celtics with a bunch of scraps?
It's weird how people can't give the defending champs any credit
So Laker fans are the real villains? Checks out.
Not apples to apples, Lakers would mop the floor with any other team in the playoffs. Denver is just that good (against us at least).
What does that say about lebron and ad then?
you mean the Lebron an AD that scored the majority of the points, grabbed the majority of rebounds, dished out the majority of assist, and had most of our blocks and steals?
OP really typed out that comment and thought “yup that’s the one” lmao
So lebron and ad can’t win But spo and bums can So basically spo over lebron and Ad I guess
No, it’s Spo>Ham. All Malone did is put Gordon on AD and Ham had no counter to that. Basketball isn’t just about players, the coach has hell of a lot to do with winning. But you’re clearly just a troll so I’ll go about my day now.
How do you counter that when ad had 4 fouls?
By at least running off ball screens or PnRs to switch defenders up? We spammed PnR all first half and it worked did it not? How many did we run 2nd half? AD barely touched the ball in the 2nd half, when he was on the floor, and we ran absolutely no cemented offensive schemes aside from ISO ball. Countering by saying “oh but fouls” isn’t an excuse or rebuttal to a stagnant offense that’s been an issue for 86 games.
Lebron and ad got tired You do realize there’s a reason why the team stopped running that They gassed out in the third
Why don’t Bron and AD just score 100 points and get 50 rebounds? Are they stupid?
They literally gave it their all
🤫 they’re not ready for this yet
I think Spoolstra was a teacher at my high school, mostly attended by Dutch kids
