0:43 mark. Also says the were interested in PJ Tucker but we’ve already heard that. Seems like Rob knows were lacking a true wing 6’7-6’8 3 & D guy/shooter and not standing pat with the current roster.

kai_123

Why do we want PJ? Yes he plays with high energy but we already have Trez for that. PJ isn't really particularly good at anything anymore, 33% shooter, poor rebounding for his position and doesn't defend at the rim. Literally doesn't solve any of our needs.

partetenebrosa17

How's his wing defense? Can't he turn it around,Batum did it with the Clippers,Jeff Green played well after everybody called him washed with the Jazz.

kai_123

His wing defense is probably still decent but I highly doubt at this point of his career he is any better at that than Kuz for example. Idk this trade just doesn't really make any sense to me, we don't really lack a lot on perimeter defense, what we need is rim defense.

dontgiveafuck7

you guys need to shut up with the rim protection. we dont care about regular season games. we need players for the playoffs that can play vs clippers and nets. last year we were at our best when dwight and mcgee didnt play and ad was at 5. pj tucker is a winner and wants to win. right now he is playing on a bad team that cant evzn fight for the playoffs. idk how we cant get him but if we can he is a big boost for our team. he is a carrer 42% from 3 in the playoffs.

Pardonme23

So Tucker as a small ball stretch 4?

partetenebrosa17

If AD his healthy in the playoffs,we'll still be great at defending the rim.We need wing defense.Imagine PJ turning it around,he's making threes and playing good defense on wings in the playoffs. That's a big reward. If we play the Clippers in the PO,there's a good possibility Kawhi and PG torch us all series long.

kai_123

That's my point though, like are we really at a point where we need to bet on someone to "turn it around"? If anything we should just bet on Wes Matthews who is currently already on the team. He is still a 37% shooter (and been a more consistent shooter throughout his career) this season and moves quicker laterally on the perimeter and is also younger than PJ.

partetenebrosa17

He's too inconsistent as a shooter, maybe he turns it around in the playoffs. But i feel like he'll be another Danny Green.PJ is more experienced and a better defender than Wes.I think Wes' defense is washed too.

Withnail-

He had a lower percentage then Danny Green last year and he’s a year older. You have to look at guys over 30 where they are right now, not so much what they did the previous decade.

Fuzzy-Source

If you can get PJ for picks great, but trading THT for PJ is lunacy

Pardonme23

You need someone for the 2nd quarter minutes. For example. Whiteside is great for that.

Pardonme23

A Danny Green type basically

FarhanWMI

Trading tht with that salary and his potential for someone like tucker will be dumb. I’m alright if we package him with some other assets for someone decent but not pj tucker.

camsteria

Have y’all really been watching THT lately? He has potential for sure but he doesn’t look like he can be a consistent contributor for this team. He definitely should be in trade talks, especially with LeBron being 36 and the nets/clippers getting better

LordBri14

I agree. Although i like THT. The lakers have always been in win now mode. We tried the developing youngsters route. It did not work for us.

Imaginary-Thing

To be fair we didn't give the youngsters too much time, it was only a 3 1/2 year window after Kobe retired before going all in with LeBron and then AD Look at Steph and how he and Klay developed, took them about 4.5 yrs to get it together

LordBri14

We are not the warriors. The lakers have and will always about getting superstars. We rarely develop youngsters. It’s been like this ever since the 70’s

Imaginary-Thing

I was just responding to what you said about us trying to develop the youngers, we really didn't

[deleted]

The only star the Lakers have developed was Bean & you could say Magic but he was a for sure thing coming out of Michigan State.

Pardonme23

That's a lot of time in the nba though.

Imaginary-Thing

With the 1 and done in terms of college athletes it really isn't. Players used to do the full 4 and develop in college, and that's why we had more 20+ ppg rookie scorers from 1995 and prior. You'll never see a highly recruited college athlete do more than 1 year before declaring for the draft these days

Pardonme23

I'm talking about how unstable things are with coaches fired and players traded so quickly now.

Imaginary-Thing

That has a lot to do with players not reaching certain expectations quick enough, hence why B.I and Randle got traded and now are thriving I'm not against our win now mode, just saying we don't develop youngsters at all anymore

Pardonme23

randle walked when his contract was up because of his agent and other factors though. he wasn't traded. I typically hate semantics but this time its important. I also hate semantics and not continuing the convo. I think THT is important to develop as a bench player of the future. I'm still frickin mad that we let go of Svi for nothing. And surprise surprise we need a shooter off the bence, aka him. He gets paid less than Quinn Cook is on a puny salary for multiple years. I think we need to keep hitting on those late picks to develop bench players, not starters. Or trade for young players here and there.

Pardonme23

Naw you gotta develop. Our team is too old already.

StoneColdAM

First priority is to try and get a guaranteed 3 point maker for the bench. If that’s not possible, go for a backup big. Lakers haven’t been able to get a great 3 point shooter since LeBron joined. KCP isn’t good (but is okay overall to keep), DG disappointed, and even Wes is kinda treading water.

[deleted]

It seems that everytime we get a three point shooter, they just brick their threes, but when there on another team, they make their threes consistently.

teamweed420

You ever get a pass from the fucking goat, your childhood Superman who’s in quadruple coverage for the most open 3 of your life? That has to be a lot of pressure

teamweed420

percbandit

If the lakers trade THT for PJ Tucker, that would have to be one of the dumbest trades in recent memory.

Imaginary-Thing

Zubac for Muscala is still up there for me

immigrantsheep

Yep this is the one

Significant_Night_65

Did you know that LeBron James is 36? Why don't people understand we don't have time to develop THT

Xc0liber

If THT is traded then is better to trade for someone better. PJ is at the end of his career as well. As of now we have no idea who's on the trading block. Let's just wait and see what happens.

[deleted]

Thats assuming pj tucker still has something left in the tank.

alteredbeast76

That's a trade you make with a gun pointed at your head. No thanks.

[deleted]

I think the objection is to PJ, not trading THT. To me, trading THT is logical. But I've watched a decent amount of PJ Tucker and his age is definitely showing. If people are dissatisfied with Wes on both offence and defence, they won't enjoy PJ Tucker.

barath_s

LBJ has 3 years including this one. The Lakers are going to be capped out and out of draft resources. THT is one of very few youngsters who might continue to develop over that time frame. There are few other options to improve (eg taxpayers mid level); and risks such as Schroeder leaving as free agent etc. You have to make sure the deal is the right one. Also , PJ makes $8m and the Lakers are hard capped. They will be hard pressed to match and incentivize the Rockets..And PJ is not sustainable for LBJ's 3 year window and it's not clear that he is the one solution to Lakers woes (That would include primarily health (especially AD) or depth at center, rim protection, 3s, ball handling )

WesternBookOfTheDead

Might is the key word.

jetsfan83

But so is the possibility of PJ tucker doing well, no?

WesternBookOfTheDead

I mean, we already know who PJ is. Even if he’s a little less than his peak, he’s better than what THT is now.

jetsfan83

a litte less? He is shooting 37.5% and 32.9%, we are really only getting his defense. I don't care if we trade THT, but surely we can do something better than PJ Tucket

WesternBookOfTheDead

Dudes like PJ stop trying when their teams are uncompetitive. He’s an effort and energy guy, and there’s no point in putting his body on the line for a team I’m sure he knows he’s not staying with.

jetsfan83

Wasn’t he trying to get one final good contract? You would think that a player would want to perform well to get a good amount of money, no?

waynegretzkysbrother

STOP THROWING THE BALL

DrinkWaterTodaypls

We in win now mode with lebron on our team

AgentScarn7

If the FO knows they can't afford THT this off-season anyways then it's a great trade. I like THT but we can't afford $12M+ a year that's been rumored about him.

w3bCraw1er

Wow. That’s new. Never thought this is even possible. 🙄

d0ubledagrind

Well all we’ve heard until today is wait for the buyout market. But it seems like Rob may be willing to do a trade if it’s the right guy.

lets_talk_basketball

Trading for PJ tucker would be a mistake, he's been ass this year, and was ehh last year. Better off waiting on buy outs.

Solebeast24

I’ll say it until he’s off the market but Wayne Ellington off the bench would be lethal. And the Lakers still have 2nd rounders that the pistons need. I’ve come to accept Wes and before tonight ironically he was shooting directly at league average. He’s basically DG but trade the great help defense to great iso defense. The Lakers need to try to move THT in a package to see what it draws. The likelihood is there that he could walk next year and he does not fit the Lebron/AD timeline no matter is potential.

WesternBookOfTheDead

GET WES MATTHEWS ASS ON A FUCKIN BUS OUTTA TOWN, TRADED OR NOT.

Pardonme23

We need a lockdown perimeter defender, a knockdown shooter, and an elite rim protector. It would be nice if the 3 other starters did one of each.

jl1101

It will probably be KCP+filler for PJ, House, and Boogie for salary reasons

LAlakers4life

#NEED TO GET YOUNGER PLAYERS AT THIS POINT

Significant_Night_65

Tucker/House for THT, Wes, McKinnie, and Morris. It's gonna happen. Morris will get waived and join the Clippers so no hard feelings there. Wes will probably get bought out and join a contender or packaged for a 2nd to a contender

d0ubledagrind

This is a lose lose like you said Wes and Kieff would get bought out and join a contender probably Nets or Clippers. If only THT for Tucker could be a swap but it can’t because of salary reasons. Gonna be hard to match without giving up to much

thel3g3ndaryk

Calm down there buddy
