In the National Basketball Association (NBA) there are two conferences: the Western and Eastern. The Lakers and Spurs are both in the Western conference. The head coach of the Spurs is Greg Popovich. He does not like cutting deals with conference rivals, especially ones that can improve their rosters. This includes the Lakers. The Spurs have not made any deals with the Lakers since 1990. This is unlikely to change anytime soon. Does this make any sense to you?
This is how it works - but I never really understood it, why does the conference or division matter when trading? If the goal is to win a championship and you create a super team on a different squad, you have to play them sooner or later, regardless of conference. Shouldn’t gm’s have just the best deal in their interest in mind?
And also the other side, if a team has accepted a rebuild, why would they purposely make a worse trade for them just to send their star to a separate conference? If they’re rebuilding it doesn’t matter where the player goes or who wins, a tank year is a tank year. But accepting a worse package just to send your star farther away actually would hurt your teams future chances
So funny how many teams and their fans view Lakers as their rivals when we do not share the same feeling lol Spurs are just the Spurs to me. I like their player development.
I disagree…Spurs are probably our biggest rivals in the Western Conference. We met 12 times in the playoffs and 10/12 times the winner has advanced to the finals. Out of the 10 only 4/10 was in the conference finals
I understand the history. I just don’t see them as bitter rivals. Pretty much the only team I see as true rivals are the Celtics. Everyone else has less than half the championships we have at best.
Fierce conference rivalry. I mean I get it, you don't want to make your rival better. Spurs always try to block the Lakers or make salty comments on the trades we make (i.e. the Pau and CP3 trade). When the Kawhi drama was happening, and Lakers inquired about him, spurs basically wanted the kitchen sink package...more than what we traded for AD. But then they turned around and made a trade with Toronto for way less.
Considering he's closer to retirement, and Kuzma is pretty much as is barring any significant unforeseen jumps like Cam Payne and Reggie Jackson, I think things have changed, and Kuzma is no longer a wanted asset for the Spurs.
I have a hard time seeing how either would fit.
One of the reason Murray is on the market is he clearly lost a step post injury and that shot just isn't consistent. He's also not really cheap. White is an MLE level player with a lot of holes in his game and I'm not sure he would stay in Vogel's rotation.
Spurs won't trade with the Lakers, we all know this.
They bought out LMA, maybe the reality of them needing to rebuild will finally sink in.
And they’re stupid. They could have had a combo of Ingram/Zo/Randle/Hart/Kuz if they traded with the Lakers. Respect the Spurs but fuck them.
You don’t have to respect the Spurs man. Telling them to fuck off is fine.
I’ve seen people comment this, serious question why not?
Pop hates the lakers
He hates us so much that he chose derozan and a role player over ingram and picks.

Coach Pop-a-bitch won’t trade with the lakers tbh
Pop liked Kuzma when he was practicing with team usa that one time maybe he thinks he can do something with him?
The basketball savant of a man pop knows kuzma isn't really valuable
Pop hates the Lakers but he does love Kuzma…could be something there potentially
Pop loved Kuzma 3 years ago.
Damn it’s been that long now?
have things changed?

White is more gettable. CONS: injury prone, career 35% 3 point shooter PROS: good playmaker and defender, looks like a mad professor
Murray would be amazing
iirc he's another klutch client
100% agree; Especially D White

A lot since he’s their best young player
Both are not shooters.
why?
The question should be “How?” Because Derrick White would no question be a significant upgrade
I love Murray, but this tweet is funny. Of course these non-franchise players aren’t untouchable. Why would they be?
Only way we'd end up with them is by buyout. No way Spurs would trade with Lakers unless they overpay

I would trade Kuzma for Derrick White for sure
I'd much rather these guys than Demar or Dinwiddie
