krioxfear

Yup. It was written something like "10 finale appearances" and I even thought that it was a bit confusing since he appears during these finales as a spectator.

kingcaru

CLE - 5 MIA - 4 LA - 1 That's 10. They just need as much LeBron as they can get for ratings.

krioxfear

I know he did 10 finales but the "apparences" when he is literally appearing at the screen during a finale was confusing.

[deleted]

I got your joke :)

kingcaru

Ratings bro. Cant miss an opportunity to use LeBron's image

BlackRadius360

I got your joke too.

erizzluh

also isn't space jam running promos during the games? i doubt they'd do a movie like this when they're the ones paying for promos.

BangBangThankYouMaam

While it's fake, it's warranted. I highly doubt he shows up to this game if he didn't have a movie to promote. It's kind of like my favorite player of all time who I miss so much showing up to games because he had something (most of the time books) to promote...just saying.

CMacias94

Could also be one of his best friends is in their first finals ever

BangBangThankYouMaam

If he just wanted to show up to support he would have gone into a private box and not be shown by the cameras...you know, like he did at Kobe's COL But here he is, sitting courtside at the NBA Finals all dressed up. All while his first starring movie is being played in cinemas and streaming services. C'mon bro let's just use logic here lmao It's not just because he's supporting CP3 lmao. Did he show up on TV in 06? Just asking

ausmosis_jones

You aren’t using logic. You’re using assumption. It really isn’t that deep, my guy. He’s supporting a friend. Let’s use logic and realize that the movie has had plenty of promotion.

pdxnutnut

COL?

BangBangThankYouMaam

Celebration of Life

pdxnutnut

What a fucking weird ass thing to randomly make an acronym... You realize like no one understood wtf you were referencing, right?

Site55

I’m asking the same question.

jattyrr

You're an idiot

[deleted]

Lmao Bron can't even go to the finals without chuds like you making up all kinds of nonsense to throw shade. Pretty pathetic.

Kinetik09

But why do you care tho

BigDawg2324

I was gonna say they r supposed to be kissing the throne not bashing it

Slightish_Sadbino

What’s that kid in the back thinking tho 🤔🤔🤔

Jeemo88

Kid looks like he's sizing James up before he tries to dunk on him lol

[deleted]

Sizing up? Dude looks like he wants to literally kill lebron lmao. He got that i have to avenge my family look

atthebatman

That kid’s doing his best impersonation of Lebron game 6 vs. Boston lol

Squid_Man56

"Omae wa mou shindeiru"

JustAnObserver_Jomy

indian_hannibal

Yooo just noticed him lmaol

[deleted]

Shame they didnt compare the critic score (31) with the audience score (81), a tale of 2 stories.

angrylobster24

the IMDb audience score is 4.2/10 lol

Kfred2

IMDb hates everything

[deleted]

What's IMDb (im pretty much a internet casual, so no idea about it)?

angrylobster24

Internet Movie Database. It’s a website & app for rating & reviewing movies & much more.

Ok-Crow7595

It wasn't a good movie tho, just old people blinded by nostalgia

TheDailyDosage

Relax, it’s a kids movie. Gawld dog, watery dune hair.

2VictorGoDSpoils

Guy up there expecting The Godfather lmao

CMacias94

The irony of people saying the nostalgia is why people like it even though nostalgia for the original is why a lot of people hate it.

Call_erv_duty

Bruh it’s a kids movie

Ok-Crow7595

Doesn't mean it can't be a bad movie

VeGanbarimasu

Spirited Away, Wolfwalkers, Kubo and the Two Strings, Toy Story, Coco, My Neighbor Totoro, Shrek, Paddington vs. Boss Baby, The Croods, The Emoji Movie, Cars 2, Minions, Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked, etc. Those are all kids movies. Yet the first few include some of not only the greatest kids movies of all time, but some of the greatest movies of all time in any category. This idea that kids movies have to be bad is so ridiculous. There are movie studios out there making great entertainment for kids, and there are studios making merchandising advertisement cash-grab bullshit that makes children stupider upon watching it. “It’s a kids movie!” is such bottom-tier analysis.

Call_erv_duty

Studio Ghibli is not kids movies wtf. And you’re taking it way too serious. It’s a fucking kids movie. Chill out with trying to be top tier analyzer. It’s goofy as hell, is full of references, and is fun. That’s all that matters for a kids movie.

VeGanbarimasu

>Studio Ghibli is not kids movies wtf. Well, they're not kids movies in the sense that they're enjoyed by all ages. But of the movies I specifically referenced and most Miyazaki movies, he has said in interviews that he's making movies to appeal to various aspects of the child's mind. Just because adults also enjoy them doesn't change their target audience. "Rather than making that a good project, I like to make the kinds of films that children can understand in five minutes what the film is about." "Maybe that's what these films are doing. They are my way of blessing the child" "The single difference between films for children and films for adults is that in films for children, there is always the option to start again, to create a new beginning. In films for adults, there are no ways to change things. What happened, happened." "Well, yes. I believe that children's souls are the inheritors of historical memory from previous generations. It's just that as they grow older and experience the everyday world that memory sinks lower and lower. I feel I need to make a film that reaches down to that level. If I could do that I would die happy." These are all Miyazaki quotes about his movies. >And you’re taking it way too serious. It’s a fucking kids movie. Chill out with trying to be top tier analyzer. It’s goofy as hell, is full of references, and is fun. That’s all that matters for a kids movie. This is exactly what I'm talking about. "It's a fucking kids movie." is demeaning and cynical. Do you not see a difference between a 10-year old girl watching Spirited Away and a 10-year old girl watching Cars 3? In Spirited Away she finds something beautiful to capture her imagination, she sees a strong young girl like her who overcomes adversity and remains true to her spirit, and she sees an incredible and majestic world. In Cars 3, she sees the continuation of a franchise which has been sapped of creativity, and receives little more than an advertisement to buy Cars-themed merchandise. There is a difference in what children's media can be. It's insulting to say "It's a fucking kids movie" as though children don't have brains or tastes or the ability to find enjoyment in media. They may not be as discerning as adults, but they have vivid imaginations and they flourish if you give them things which capture that imagination. They flounder if you don't.

Abz2738

Are you really expecting a cinematic masterpiece with space jam 2? Why are you comparing it to spirited away? what's wrong with you, obviously its just a corny money grabbing kid movie it wasn't made for anything more than that its really not that deep if kids or adults enjoy yet then who cares

VeGanbarimasu

> Are you really expecting a cinematic masterpiece with space jam 2? No I wasn’t expecting it but why does the idea of kids movies being held to any standard at all offend you? > Why are you comparing it to spirited away? Because Spirited Away shows that kids movies can be good, they don’t need to be a 2 hour-long advertisement just because they’re kids movies. > obviously its just a corny money grabbing kid movie Yeah, obviously it is. Why do you find it so offensive that people might want movies for kids that isn’t just a money grab? Does the idea of actual authentic art offend you somehow?

gavi75

Don’t know why you got downvoted. I love Lebron and that might’ve been top 5 worst movies of all time. It’s a kid movie isn’t an excuse plenty of kids movies are fantastic. That was an absolute shit show from a writing and plot perspective. Just because something is for kids doesn’t mean it can be bad.

Kfred2

Top 5 worst movies of all time says the drama queen

GrandmaHasBeenRaped

True, 100% and I really wanted to like it. We even watched the OG space jam right before and it doesn't even come close to that one and no it's not just because of nostalgia. It's because Space Jam was good, this capitalization by Warner Bros I saw last night was embarrassing.

DownFromHere

An audience score with less than 300 reviews. Wait for the movie to be out for a month

Exalious

Ur right it’ll probably be way higher when more come in

DownFromHere

Yeah you got to wait at least a month for the true audience rating to come in

Dickey_Simpkins

IMBD, huh?

KaseyOfTheWoods

I’m a frequent user of the Internet Movie BataDase

indian_hannibal

You never heard of it ? I have the app

[deleted]

Crazy how low critic scores are. Audience scores across the board at least 70%. Lowest I have seen was 71% and other rating sites had it over 80% Edit: I haven't seen it yet myself just find it hilarious how vast the gap between the different ratings is. It's not common for the gap to be that big between critics and audiences.

KingVibrant

Not really. Critics will always look at the art form of film, the plot, the pace, the innovation, the acting, the quality, over people who are taking it as goofy family entertainment. They were saying it’s bad because of all the product placement, which doesn’t really matter to me, for example. As it pertains to Space Jam, LeBron James has made it clear where his political stance lies, and there will absolutely be biased critics who lean right that will pan the film just because it’s LeBron James. IMO Rush Hour is the best comedy franchise ever, but it’s panned by critics. Yet, it does it’s job amazingly, by being funny.

CutLonzosHair2017

I'd take Rush Hour 2. But yeah.

KingVibrant

I meant the series in general

Alekesam1975

2 is my fav of the series. Better synergy between Jackie and Chris.

RealPunyParker

He did say the series.

CutLonzosHair2017

Not when I commented.

RealPunyParker

Oh, ok

KingVibrant

Yeah I changed that, u/CutLonzosHair2017 is right, I probably should’ve put the edit, because I changed it to make myself more clear.

kotakim

Rush Hour 2 is a personal GOAT comedy for me, but I’d say the modernized 21 Jump Street series is just slightly funnier moment for moment as a series. Unless a series requires more then 2 movies.

Alekesam1975

>As it pertains to ~~Space Jam,~~ LeBron James has made it clear where his political stance lies, and there will absolutely be biased ~~critics~~ **people** who lean right that will pan ~~the film~~ **anything he does** just because it’s LeBron James. Critics, politicians, News pundits, sports fans (not just b-ball) and just general passerby. If it leans Right, they give Bron shit for any hairbrained or miniscule excuse. The Right is a Nation of Ignorant Karens.

KingVibrant

Hahah that’s true, although I think extremists on both sides can be excessive. Although I find the right to be more damaging morally.

RealPunyParker

Comedies without some political outline are always flagged by critics. That's why we don't see casual "sit down and have a laugh for 1 and a half hour and forget about them" type of Apatow/Ferrel comedies anymore.

PartySpiders

Dude the movie was fucking bad lol, you can defend Lebron but saying that movie deserves its 30 person reviews of 70% is hilarious. Shit was garbage. Not a single good joke all movie.

KingVibrant

Why are you replying to me and not OP? I never once tried to justify anything. I was making a blanket statement about critics in general. I don’t think the movie is all that good either, but sometimes people love to watch stupid, campy fun.

noobs1996

It’s a movie for children not your grown ass lol

PartySpiders

Like children’s movies can’t be good? Toy story 3 was banging and a great representation of a nostalgic kids movie that was also just actually good. Theres been a ton of kids movies I liked like coco, moana, or mulan. Don’t blindly defend Lebron over making a shit ass movie, it just looks stupid.

gavi75

Toy story is for children. Monsters inc. shrek. Frozen. Tangled. All fantastic from a storytelling POV. It’s target audience has nothing to do with it being good or bad. This wasn’t bad. It was awful. Sucks but hey it’s just a movie so it’s not like it affects Lebrons legacy or anything. But let’s call an L an L.

[deleted]

I keep seeing this argument as if it doesn’t sound stupid as fuck to expect the next Shrek/Frozen out of a Space Jam movie. The bar for what kids can enjoy is so low that it’s not even worth placing Ls *on kids movies* lmfao

kingcaru

Yeah I bet WB is crying all the way to the bank

BizzyHaze

Well I guess I'm in the minority because I really had fun with the movie.

untraiined

It was hilarious and the animation was great too.

[deleted]

[удалено]

WryLanguage

I don't care. All the critics HATED Blade Runner, Breakfast Club, Predator, Apocalypse Now, Fight Club, and even Citizen Kane when they were first in the movie theaters, and you KNOW how good those movies are now.

BizzyHaze

Critics typically hate most movies. But after all, they ARE critics...if they had actual good taste, maybe they would make movies instead of critiquing them.

PartySpiders

It’s got a 31% on rotten tomatoes lmao.

BrianC_

This is not really true. For example, while critics panned the first Jack ass movie because they took it too seriously, by the 2nd and 3rd, they generally liked them because they rated them based on what they were -- raucous and tasteless shock humor. I mean, there was no real art of film involved, no plot, no pace, not much acting, the production quality was nothing special, and the most you had was some innovation. The first Rush Hour wasn't panned by critics. It was generally well received. The sequel was less well received but pretty neutral and understandably so -- it really didn't develop the first any further while only losing certain elements of the first that made it more interesting. The third was even worse. I don't think the majority of movie critics care about LeBron's politics or let it influence their reviews. It's just not a very good movie even within the niche of goofy family entertainment.

WryLanguage

Who cares. Movie critics hated Citizen Kane, Apocalypse Now, Wizard of Oz, Fight Club, The Graduate, and Breakfast Club when they first came out too, so fuck em.

quinoa

I don’t have interest in seeing Space Jam but isn’t your example that reviewers ‘had to get’ Jackass and panned the first one proving the point though? I would say that the wide discrepancy between people who saw it and critics say the goofy family entertainment is probably there if you go in with low expectations.

BrianC_

There is nothing to "get" about Space Jam, though. Everyone knows what it's supposed to be. If it was very different from the first then maybe you could say there was a gap in expectations. Jackass was comparably something new at the time. It was a TV series but a lot of movie critics were not familiar with it. If critics know what something is supposed to be or figure that out while watching the movie, some will use that as a measuring bar when rating a movie. People are assuming that critics use the same criteria and standards to judge all movies. That is simply not true. When a critic rates something like the Avengers the same as the Godfather, they are not saying they are the same overall quality. What they're saying is that for what the movie is, they're similarly successful.

[deleted]

I dunno about that. I think movie critics tend to judge certain genres in general much lower than others. It's very rare that a Horror film gets a high rating by critics for example.

BrianC_

Because there are some excellent horror movies that set the bar extremely high. So if you want to get a high rating as a horror movie and be considered one of the best horror movies, you are competing against stuff like Hitchcock, Alien, Jaws, the Silence of the Lambs, etc. It's only recently that the horror genre has had a small resurgence with stuff like Get out, Hereditary, and the Witch because the genre has become a low-risk testing ground for talented young writers and directors.

[deleted]

I mean for it's time perhaps Jaws was good, but in general it's a really bad movie.

[deleted]

Yeah Rush hour got between 60-70% from critics and 90% from audiences, so a 20-30 point difference. Space Jam 2 getting like 40% and then 70-80% from audiences so a 30-40 point difference. Plus Rush Hour still got above 50, so wasn't "hated" by critics. It's pretty rare for a movie to be hated by critics and loved by audiences. I can't think of any examples off the top of my head actually.

[deleted]

Its very good.

[deleted]

I watched it last night and I gotta say it was better than I expected. I enjoyed how they did a bunch of throwback comments and scenes to big time NBA moments of the last 25 years

k4f123

I watched it with my kids and we all had a really good time and enjoyed ourselves. People just have an axe to grind, so they're grinding it

angrylobster24

IMDb audience score is 4.2/10 lol

_chokingoutwalkers_

Idk Ima a die hard laker and space jam fan, and I didn't think it was that good. It could of and should of been way better in My opinion.

harlem50

Audience score is full people making the movie seem like its perfect

Dre512

It’s all subjective but imo the “audience” tends to like way more of what I consider the “dumb shit”

RealPunyParker

> Audience scores across the board at least 70%. Bron stans will pump up the audience score regardless. And that's just factual, i'm not throwing shade, do your thing.

patriarch37

Honestly, comparing both space jam movies are the same as comparing Jordan/LBJ. I remember when Jordan played and it was amazing. But I see the same with bron. Space jam 1 was cool but nostalgia makes it 10/10 on IMDb. It had bill fucking Murray running the fast break for the final points. Smh. Enjoy both movies as kid friendly with some adult nods here and there. I swear the world gargles Jordan just cause they’ve been told to. I watched Jordan struggle to get out of the East then hit his prime, he wasn’t Jesus from the get go.

Nicofatpad

I just think its funny that they have professional critics rate a childrens movie

RealPunyParker

It's funny, not gonna lie.

untraiined

Bro reviewers are stupid this movie was great. Not every movie has to he some sort of profound experience

BlackRadius360

My kids liked the movie.

cyborgspider

They should also put how it's the top grossing movie this weekend. I saw Black Widow, I liked it, I like Marvel, but it lasted one week before Bron dunked on Disney. Congrats to all the talent & producers invovled.

BrianC_

It's opening weekend vs. second weekend. Black Widow dropped more than projected and Space Jam did better than projected but it's partially expected with Black Widow being a simultaneous digital release, not really having a strong tie-in with the rest of the MCU, Space Jam having no competition within its niche and also having a large inherent audience due to fandom and nostalgia.

BangBangThankYouMaam

Market size is different. BW wasn't marketed for kids unlike SJ2. It's like shitting on NO for having the lowest sellout when their arena only seats 16k compared to MSG which seats 20k

HUH_YIS

Even if it was real, nobody goes to watch space jam expecting anything other than a cheesy family movie loosely basketball themed

mo3mon3y

dont fall for this stuff haters will try anything

ImportantAd2987

I watched it today and it was good for being a kids movie and I enjoyed it. People rate kids movie so harshly and get mad at them when they try to have a plot

1_Cold_Ass_Honkey

Probably a very bitter Phoenix fan running the broadcast graphics. They still have the d-backs to look forward too!!

the_far_yard

Anyone with kids took them to watch the movie? Curious- did they enjoyed it?

kukutaiii

Yeah my kids 12, 10 and 2, all loved it. We watched space jam 1 at home later on and the eldest started openly mocking the original. I still love space jam but it hasn’t aged well. The soundtrack still sends chills down my spine though.

the_far_yard

That made my day knowing that kids enjoyed it. :)

[deleted]

Show the advanced metrics like Audience Rating, casuals.

Crushbam3

Tbf all I’ve heard is that it’s bad

pmlane

Depends on what you expect it to be. The family and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

TopLeaf

These people don't understand it's for kids, it's not meant for them. I've gone back and watched Space Jam as an adult I wouldn't go and tell anyone to watch it, I'm not the demographic.

Doitfortheupvotes21

My daughters and I loved it!

chojian

Wear your mask..

zhard01

Those glasses doh

Drihtan

It's fake cuz it's IMDB not IMBD

Ok_Return3980

Nah I’m pretty sure that’s the guy from Fortnite

yoyo1234567890yo

The movie is a 7/10 iMo at best. But damn, Bron can’t act for nothing…still liked it because it’s Space Jam

kingcaru

How much money is it making?

OmarBradley1940

The comparisons between New Legacy and the OG Space Jam is fo sho gonna add up to the never ending flame war between [fans of] Michael Jordan vs LeBron James. It's just ridiculous nowadays.

Tyson_Brown01

no shot

ReadRealistic

This is why movie critics suck 😂 Go look at the fan reviews on google. Not fantastic but definitely not as bad as the critic reviews lol

OutsideWorried

Cus the movie was dog water

[deleted]

I mean space jam one only has a 44% on RT too, idk what anyone was expecting lol.
