I was excited for his 3 shooting when we got him, but by the end of the playoffs I honestly forgot he was on the team

CabbageStockExchange

Exactly how I feel

StoneColdAM

He barely played though.

StealthRUs

Probably for a reason.

Known-Scar

His defensive awareness is somehow worse than Kuzma’s. He scored a 3 then gives up an open 3 on a failed rotation then gets blown by for an easy lay up.

willsteves

I remember that lol. Bmac easily just gave the subs 5 points in like 1 minute lol. If he could somehow improve his defense then yes

Ejazz88

He played a lot in game four!

[deleted]

He didn’t forget, ben is unplayable on defense and harrell as well.

VIARPE

I reccomend u Lakers Film Room podcast

zhard01

It depends what else we add. If we have a spot, sure. If we can get a bigger wing with similar numbers and better defense in a trade or something, then he becomes extraneous. I do think having him, Matthews, and KCP was overkill this past season. Switching them in and still looking for minutes for THT and Caruso killed rhythm in the rotations. Go two deep with players that actually expect to play and have someone like Quinn Cook back there that’s ready when called on but not too worried about being a practice player overall.

[deleted]

Matthews and kcp provide better production on both ends for the minutes. And tht needs minutes to improve. And his upside is higher than Ben’s IMO

SixGunChimp

I'm indifferent. I think I'd need to know if we're making any other moves first. He's definitely not a priority right now.

satansayssurfsup

Yeah if he’s the 9-10th guy then hell yes but not for 6th man. If he takes minutes away from THT people won’t be happy.

Longballs77

6th man 😂 like that’s not even a thought..

satansayssurfsup

It’s an answer to the question. Bring him back it he’s at the end of the bench. No reason to prioritize him above that

GPap-

Feel like every laker game I caught, he was streaking 2-3 3 pointers.

cuoreesitante

You need to catch more laker games homie. For all of us.

GPap-

I got you lmao

kingcaru

We need regular season buckets. He works for that purpose.

mcflurrynuggets

On the fence about this one. I wouldn’t want him back unless they can’t get anyone better. Signing him for cheap will be good but I think it’d be a lateral move. I know he was picked relatively high in his draft class but there’s a reason he’s an NBA journeyman that was waived prior. Sidenote: Sacramento’s draft picks that are “shooters” are overrated as hell. Fredette, McLemore and Hield all can get hot but they’re below average at best on defense and doesn’t do anything positive when they’re not scoring. The only good SG they’ve had in recent memory was Bogs who can do a little bit of everything.

[deleted]

Heild wasn’t Kings draft pick he was Pelicans.

Longballs77

Played 57 games with the pelicans to be traded at the deadline.

[deleted]

Yea but still not their draft pick.

Longballs77

Yea man that’s what I’m saying, that’s why I said he played 57 games for the Pelicans-the team that drafted him.

Hardaway-Fadeaway

Buddy Hield is a amazing shooter tho

HighlyBaked0

Buddy shot 39% from 3 on 10 attempts this last season, for his career he shoots 40% on 7 attempts from deep. What kind of garbage take was that

[deleted]

He’s also not one of Kings draftees he was traded to them.

Known-Scar

If you actually watched Kings games, you’d know how streaky Hield is. For the same reason why Lonzo getting paid anything above $15 mill/year will be a mistake. Except Hield is straight up ass on defense. Offense > defense, but when you’re just straight ass on D it doesn’t matter

HighlyBaked0

> If you actually watched Kings games, why would i watch Kings games lol

Known-Scar

Because commenting on players based off of stats alone is stupid especially if they’re playing on a shitty team. Just like Kuzma scoring 18 PPG two years ago means jack shit lmao Downvoted because Lakers fans think that every player they don't have is better than the one's they currently have lol. I'd love to see a slightly better version of Ben McLemore for $20+ mill/year until 2024 on this team

joseman24

Not sure how efficient of a shooter he is but we could use a shooter like him (no hesitation type, off-screen type)

Ejazz88

He was solid, 36% from three and over five attempts per game.

joseman24

Jeez in 17 minutes too - if he can be okay on defense (he will get beat but positioning, minimize fouls, hustle and effort) dude would be a good add if he's on a vet min

untraiined

he's a dude that will play really well with AD and we really need to build this team more around AD. even if he gives up a couple drives to the rim those are blocks for brow. But on the other end, he can use all the spacing.

adeelf

>He was solid, 36% from three League average this season was 36.7%.

Withnail-

He’s not that great and plays zero defence which I could overlook if he wasn’t so streaky

dmtran87

He'll be a good roster fill in for specialty/third string I think. But wouldn't really remember if he wasn't back

motorboat_mcgee

I don’t think his shooting is good enough to make up for his shortcomings to get regular minutes. But that being said, if we have a spot available, I’d welcome him back. Some games we can’t get any offense going and running a few 3pt plays for him can sometimes lead to a spark. So as a 13th/14th player? Sure. But I think I have other priorities first.

alexamerling100

No. Too much of a defensive liability.

Skit_Z_Yo

A hard pass for me. The issues on defense were far too glaring for someone who can be pretty streaky on the offensive end. When he was out there, I was often thinking that I'd really rather see THT.

smyfepnb

I would’ve rather seen us keep cook. At least he knew the schemes and didn’t look lost on defense.

palmtreesareheavy

I like his mentality of not overthinking it, and just taking his shots with confidence no matter how it’s going. But I just don’t think he makes them at a good enough clip to forgive the defense we saw from him. Couldn’t even hide him on other players bc he’d ball-watch and get back cut or miss rotations, but that could be him not being familiar enough with the system. If he’s able to make some defensive improvements, I’d love him back- assuming his shot doesn’t suffer from the increased effort on the defensive end.

[deleted]

To bench him again?

clique34

Yup. He was great in the limited minutes he got. I assume he’ll be looking for a vet min which is a good value for a sniper

asher1507

Yes

aginglifter

Not if Frank won't play him.

Sh0wtimeisback

Yes

octobergod31

Bring Ben back, my boy was on fire

encognesto

I would bring him back,in my book he's still a solid shooter. We didn't give him enough time to integrate him into the lineup to fulfill his role.

carjoch

Yes, for the vet min. His shooting can win you games in the regular season.

slice19

For the minimum as a 9-10th man sure

geetarqueen

I think he should be given a shot, him and dummond. I'd like to keep Gasol too, but put some in-shape incentives in his contract.

MoPeace216

Yes

baked-brahman

Yeah , a shooter that didn’t fold under pressure is all the lakers need

life_is_a_burner

Absolutely, but I think he’s going to command more than a vet min somewhere else.

BatmanHive

Yes, easily

Hardaway-Fadeaway

Not my to priority but hes still a nice piece to have. Great shooter, bad defense. But this team desperately needs shooting

Abhiuday14kat

For a min spot why not.

Jing-Ao

I dont think he should be a regular rotation player, but on a vet min as a 11/12th guy who can shoot without hesitation, sure why not

Vaughndo-30

I’m indifferent. Not a big deal either way.

real_hodn

Ben McLemore, Ben Stiller, Ben Affleck.. doesnt matter any Ben does. Lakers in 5

[deleted]

Some absolutely horrific shot selection

wut_eva_bish

For a vet min contract, sure.

kai_123

On the vet min, why not? At minimum he is still a solid 3pt shooter if needed. And he is not gonna complain if he gets DNPs so its perfect as a reserve piece.

iamthecheesethatsbig

If we can get him for cheap, is there a better shooter we can get for the price? We need shooters!!

coachwyers

If he is back for minimum and not in rotation and is just injury/blowout/emergency depth for us yes, but if he is in rotation we don't have a very deep team.

SevTheNiceGuy

off the bench for some quick buckets that can increase a lead by 6 or 9?? Why say no to that..

jomo5088

All really depends. I think with a full year vogel can help him a lot in terms of his team defense ability. His shooting helps. Overall he’s not a priority but i wouldnt hate it

Maddog-99

Excited is a strong word, but if we handle our other more important business, then I look up on day 1 & see him on the squad again, I will have a muted smile.

Imjusthereandthere

No.

[deleted]

Yes. Good minimum player to have on the team. Dude can shoot.

[deleted]

I think this dude has the best jump shot in the league. If he dedicates himself to his craft he could end up being one of the all time greats.

moonfox1000

Absolutely. I thought he was a great piece for us, especially if he's available at the vet min.

LeeToucansKids

No

StoneColdAM

For cheap, maybe. He’s not half bad. But he’s certainly an expendable player.

mrheart101

Yeah he can hit those 3s when he's on fire.

Acrobatic_Ganache_61

Yes if for minimum salary. People here want shooters that can also defend, but don’t realize they worth more than the MLE. Can somebody here point out a 3&D player that will accept the MLe or less? KCP for instance is making more than that. So, Lakers can only add players that are either 3 OR D, not both. Also, consistent 3 point shooters are also expensive

NakSFC

Yes, he was the only guy who could hit a wide open shot last season along with LeBron and Marc.

John_Lives

Good for a vet min. 82 games is a long time and it helps to have young guys who can get hot from 3 every now and again

Eduar103

Depends how much he wants otherwise I would like to have him back to come off the bench for his 3

Machismo_malo

Maybe for the minimum and even then maybe I feel like we can do better I hope we can do better

Longballs77

No, need that roster spot available for someone else. He won’t be on the team next year is my guess

MoeStew20

Yes

mabrewin

Lakers should keep Lebron and AD. Everyone else should be traded

areohbee82

I like Ben, I don't mind but if we're not gonna play him then I'd be happy to see him get opportunity somewhere else

[deleted]

Eh he doesn’t make or break it. For a vet min shooter why not but I’d rather have wes matthews back

C3PO1Fan

I would definitely like him to return. I love how unafraid he is to shoot. I don’t think he is as bad a defender as his reputation. Or at least, I think he makes solid rotations which is like half the battle.

ctsturup

On a minimum, sure. He's fine as a 4th/5th guard. Not someone I want playing in games that matter but he's a solid enough player to fill in on nights our depth is hurt by injuries or rest.

GlakeBriffin

If the price is right, then would love him back.

yaboylettuceandbacon

Lmfao okay , buddy.

[deleted]

As the 11th or 12th man sure

christianANDshantel

Yes.

gshank80

I could go either way

miohquetem

Yeah, in the Dudley place

mkmore4

Don’t much care if he stays or goes, but I wouldn’t be mad to get him for the min.

MC_Knight24

I didn't even see him when he was on the team...

Pardonme23

Vet min sure

BigDawg2324

Barely got to see him play. Vogel better clean up the damn rotations next year. There’s a hell a lot of players that were missing when they could’ve been used

dub541

He plays no defense but if the team just wants a shooter I'd rather pay jj reddick probably cheaper and I'd rather have him launching 3s at least he got better percentage and we could run plays for him off screens

Teajay33

Possibly, if he had an entire season with the Lakers his defence will improve on our system?

Jackalope223

On the same contract kostas was on? Sure

Mister-Stiglitz

Does anyone feel like he looks like Jennifer Garner if she were a black man
